I HOPE someone gets fired! And to think the DMV thought it was funny? REALLY? Wouldn't be so funny had it happened to one of them. What really ticks me off is they wanted the Lady to pay for a new one. The person who willfully and intentionally put profanity on the driver's license is ignorant and undoubtly has other emotional problems. SAD. There are plenty of people today who would like to have his/her job and would deserve it. When they find out who did it, they should publicly apologize.

And to think this is from the very group that wants to monitor our every move. Be it in the airports, in the buildings and on the streets. It looks like its the government that needs monitored...

That's a third-world country thing, where the government has to employ so many people because a) big brother is out of control and b) there are not enough legitimate jobs -- you know, the kind of jobs that increase GDP and lead to real prosperity?

Huh? The police and the judges have done such a good job that we have more people in jail than the Soviet Union. Yet, if you call the police station you get a recording that says the voice mailbox is full. They don't answer the phone and don't even listen to the messages, you can't even leave a message? Every city in California and the entire state of California is essentially bankrupt because of pensions to firefighters and school teachers. The kids can just barely pass any standardized test without the tests being made easier each year. The roads are in California are not much better than black colored gravel.

Every large unionized company in the US either went bankrupt, or was forced to move offshore. This is because unions in general make businesses uncompetitive. The largest unions are now the public employees unions. The unions are the only voting block, so they elect the politicians. The politicians pass more laws requiring more rules, more regulations, more forms, and more enforcement. So in order to keep "their company's" growth going, our county's growth is strangled along with personal freedoms. You need a government permission to do anything but change a lightbulb. Because they are a monopoly and because the people they elected have made it a law, you will stand in line or on hold for as long as they find it convenient (your time is worth nothing) to pay whatever fee is necessary to pay the people staffing the facility where they give you permission. Any idea why we are not competitive?

This doesn't have anything to do with government workers or education or pensions or any of that. This has to do with some yahoo slacker who thought it would be funny to mess with someone's driver's license. There are slackers everywhere in the private sector as well as government workers. I mean haven't you been watching reality tv?

The current Administration has spent every part of the 'Stimulus money' on creating/keeping Union jobs. AIG was saved because it saved the pension funds of unions and Gov. workers while Merril Lynch was spit on and killed. Construction money for schools, roads, etc. are all regulated to go to union contractors. They are the ones that raise our taxes and the cost of American goods, then Complain of out-sourcing all the while shoping at WalMart and buying Hondas. Read any union publication and every issue, every page, cries out how "overworked and underpaid" they are while being under appreciated and put upon.

That's the difference. Business is in business to stay in business, the Gov. is in the welfare business.

So government is in the welfare business, eh? OK, let me ask you then, do you know there's a government subsidy for cattle ranchers with the only purpose to keep the price of hamburgers down?

Without this subsidy it's estimated a burger would end up costing somewhere between $12 and $15.

Don't tell me you rather starve people than put our tax money to good use to help everyone get a nice juice burger.

It's the blurred out portion above Englewood. Her street address. Anyway, they shouldn't have shown the entire license. I think they should have blurred out everything but "Eat Ass." They type it out in the article, why blur it on the license?

Marge...you're an idiot. It is not terrorism to show a partial picture of someone's license when the news story is about the license. In fact, it's not terrorism to show a partial picture of a license at all.

It sounds like either you just read the first few words of my post and then stopped there or you have not seen the same version of the article as everyone else seems to have seen. It's NOT just a picture of her face on the license but a picture of practically the entire license which includes quite a bit of Personally Identifiable Info (PII).

I agree that showing a drivers license in a piece about drivers licenses makes sense. What I don't agree with is MSNBC's decision not to blur out the PII. Honestly, what value is it to the story for us to know her full name, birthdate, city, height, signature, etc.? That's PII by any definition and perhaps it's not something you're familiar with, but I guarantee you that any large corporation, especially one that is in the business of publishing, knows what it is.

Maybe MSNBC's data privacy policy says that they will publish whatever comes across their desk, regardless of whether it adds to the story or creates a privacy issue. If that's the case all I have to say is thank god it wasn't the social security administration or a credit card company that wrote something stupid on her ss or credit card, otherwise we'd have her ss or credit card number as well. It sounds as though you don't think that would be a problem, as long as the story is about a ss or credit card.

Writing a joke on a peanut butter jar in the supper market is slightly different than on your drivers license issued by the state in which you reside.

Although it might be a little humorous in either case a peanut butter thing is anonymous while a drivers license is a bit more personal and specific.

I would be more inclined to think that it was not a prank and that it was a mistake. IMO I would say that it was a simple mistake and could have been easily rectified by the DMV if she would have brought it in and showed it to them. The stupidity of this story is that the DMV would actually try to re-charge her for the new license.

Then after everything was done and over with - I'd hang on to that thing because it would be fun to show it off.

My Thought2... There is no way that it could be a mistake. Where would those words be in the system to be autimatically enytered? How could a person type those words in an address field by accident, then not notice they did it? Then you have the audacity to blame the girl for wanting to show it off?

Frankly a government worker should be held to a standard greater than any and all non-gov't workers because they work for US and they should do their best to be as close to perfect as is humanly possible. Do their job as best as can be done. If it was a prank for pranks sake. Then find the idiot who did it and fire them.

I really can't provide an answer to you as to why it would be a mistake, but I've seen crazier things done before and believe that it is possible to have made a mistake.

I do agree with you that a government worker should be held to a higher standard for the very reasons that you indicate and I think that whoever is responsible for this should have consequences IF this was indeed a prank.

Wow, I am sure it was a nightmare for your father, not to metion a feeling of hopelessness that came with it! I think there is a theme here with rural, Courthouse, DMV's. The one in Woodbine GA is horrible! Talk about rude, inconsiderate, and incompetent state employees! Wow, they have the market on all three. The employees have been reported so many times and they are still there. They treat the military members terrible and their spouses. The trip from St. Marys Ga to Woodbine is no quick trip. They have sent many people away 3-4 times because of the incorrect information that they, themselves, give out. That amounts to dereliction of duty to me and stealing pay that isn't earned, from the very tax payers who are paying their salary. Talk about adding insult to injury! Why don't they just slap our faces when we walk through the door and get it over with?!

This woman had to go through a process that is, by its very nature, inconvenient and a pain in the butt even when its necessary and done correctly the first time. Some things are just not that funny. Some things are just stupid and annoying. There are a lot of people who don't know the difference. Most of them are about 12 or 13 years old, but, apparently, some of them work at the DMV.
