do it and the sooner the better
Absolutely they should cut the power off. LA is trying to hurt the economy of Arizona which would include innocent business owners. Not only should Arizona reciprocate, we should all boycott ANY city or state (or country for that matter) that is boycotting Arizona.
Boycotting Arizona is not the answer. Pulling the plug on LA is not the answer.. There has to be someone with enough intelligence and with enough influence that something can be done on a national level. More than likely there are illegal immigrants scattered throughout the United States. This is more than just a border war. Our government has failed the people, when will our government do what is right for all concerned? Any city and state, how many people will that end up hurting? People have lost jobs, and some their homes, nothing is being done. How much more hurt do we the people have to endure?
By Boycotting AZ these cities are hurting the people of AZ due to the fact less business less work for the people so therefore they are out of jobs. The people of AZ are tired of EVERY day drop houses, for those of you that dont know what that is they are houses in ALL areas good and bad that house 100's of people in each house that are smuggled into the state and held and tortured for ransom until their families pay children included and majority are not fed or given water for days and weeks. This is a daily occurance you hear on the news using funds from taxpayers for law enforcement, to house, to transport or for what situations arise. In addition AZ taxpayers are having taxes raised numerous times to keep up with funding of these states needs. ARIZONA IS IN DESPERATE NEED OF THE GOVERNMENTS ASSISTANCE ON CONTROLING THE DRUGS, UNDOCUMENTED CITIZENS, COYOTES (smugglers that harm and even kill) THAT COME THROUGH AND AFFECT THE STATES VALUES!!!!! Didn't someone in all of our families somewhere down the line of ALL races have to go through the proper channels to become a United States Citizen. Thats all the state is asking.
I'm a Californian and I would be more than happy to buy a few flashlights and candles if it means Arizona's message is heard. California is nothing more than a broken cesspool with inept leadership, a weak general population and a middle class that's fleeing this sinking ship. I've hated this state ever since I was old enough to pay taxes and come 2011 I'm out of here.
Here's one: How about LA close their state line to AZ, too! Ha ha ha! Go AZ Go!!!
Cut off the electricity, cut off any water, Arizona boycott of all California businesses! The progressive socialist trash in California deserve everything bad that could come their way. California is the seed bed for just about every hairbrain idea that filters across the country. Seeing that California cut off water to its own San Joaquin Valley agricultural area, which accounts for about 15-20% of all produce grown in the US, in order to save a few damn minnows in a river, cut off produce shipments to California also. And, while we're at it, California dug its own hole in terms of fiscal irresponsibility and massive deficit spending in order to pursue its progressive socialist agenda. Then just too damn stupid to cut back to compensate, so no Fed bailout for California either. I'm not paying more in Fed taxes to bail out those dummies! To hell with them!
Racist Arizona!!! You are fairly re-named Error-Zona. We will just wait and see how you come down hard!
La is a bunch of liberal idiots. I support the law 100%. Good for him shut off the power. I am in California and wish we had a law like Arizona. Go Arizona, you have all my, my families and friends support also. Don’t back down to Villaraigosa who is a La Raza racist pig. He is anti-American to the bone. GO ARIZONA!!We will be moving to Arizona ASAP and get away from lawless state of California.
I doubt they can legally do it, since California is partial owner of some of those power plants.
Would Arizona like to be cut off from all the farm products that California supplies them that they can't grow themselves(produce/fruits/vegetables)?
They like to eat, don't they?
L.A. should get a taste of its own medicine, they are just playing political games because its an election year and the politicians are trying to shore up the hispanic vote, hopefully the hispanic community realizes this!!Politicians will do whatever it takes to get re-elected,and all the incumbants gotta muster up every vote they can get.L.A.boycotting Arizona is ridiculous,it will change nothing and cost arizona very little, hell what does L.A. have that A.Z. needs so badly,Nothing!!!!A.Z. has power plants and water that LA needs. Why is L.A. getting into A.Z. business anyways, they got there own problems that they are doing nothing about!!!!
If the power is produced by Arizona, they can sell it, or NOT sell it, to whomever they please. Any plants jointly owned would still have to provide power, but LA/CA would still come up short and blackouts inevitable.
Cali-fragin-socialistic Livin-in-the-dark-now!
I live in LA and I support Arizona! Shut off the power! The better to HEAR you with!
If you support Arizona, make your voice heard!

the idiots in California passed this years ago....
834b. (a) Every law enforcement agency in California shall fully
cooperate with the United States Immigration and Naturalization
Service regarding any person who is arrested if he or she is
suspected of being present in the United States in violation of
federal immigration laws.
(b) With respect to any such person who is arrested, and suspected
of being present in the United States in violation of federal
immigration laws, every law enforcement agency shall do the
following:
(1) Attempt to verify the legal status of such person as a citizen
of the United States, an alien lawfully admitted as a permanent
resident, an alien lawfully admitted for a temporary period of time
or as an alien who is present in the United States in violation of
immigration laws. The verification process may include, but shall not
be limited to, questioning the person regarding his or her date and
place of birth, and entry into the United States, and demanding
documentation to indicate his or her legal status.
(2) Notify the person of his or her apparent status as an alien
who is present in the United States in violation of federal
immigration laws and inform him or her that, apart from any criminal
justice proceedings, he or she must either obtain legal status or
leave the United States.
(3) Notify the Attorney General of California and the United
States Immigration and Naturalization Service of the apparent illegal
status and provide any additional information that may be requested
by any other public entity.
(c) Any legislative, administrative, or other action by a city,
county, or other legally authorized local governmental entity with
jurisdictional boundaries, or by a law enforcement agency, to prevent
or limit the cooperation required by subdivision (a) is expressly
prohibited.
Does that look familiar? Did you know that is almost exactly what Arizona passed?
Figures California is too ignorant to read and enforce their own laws.
834b.
If you read the letter, he realizes he cannot legally cut off power. He is just stating, since you are boycotting everything else, go ahead and boycott our power.
This is like demanding the Lakers forfeit all their games against the Los Suns since both cities earn money from these play offs.
California is all bluster and convieniently ignores their own laws, even though as racists as the Arizona law.
Shrug, the saddest part is, with their horrible economy, entitling themselves to obscene debt that even Greece says "at least we are not California".
Nothing better than being ranked at dead last as business friendly states.
"do it and the sooner the better"
And what about the well-being of people in ICU wards who need artificial respiration? I guess you're willing to commit crimes against humanity to prove a point. I would expect as much from a conservative.

Liberal "what if" bull@!$%# is the whole argument against the Arizona law.

Wake up right wing, zeal-without-knowledge sycophants ... not only can energy companies be fined for withholding energy ... but doing it for POLITICAL REASONS? ... learn something ...
Judge: El Paso pipeline withheld Calif. supplies
WASHINGTON (Reuters) — El Paso (EP) pipelines illegally squeezed natural gas supplies needed by California electricity generating plants at the height of the state's power crisis, a judge at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission said Monday.
El Paso's stock tumbled on the New York Stock Exchange as investors tried to size up the company's liability for potential fines or refunds.FERC Chief Judge Curtis Wagner issued a report finding that El Paso during November 2000 through March 2001 "withheld extremely large amounts of capacity that could have flowed to its California delivery points."
dimitrix @ 1.15, the difference if you will NOTICE it between the two states 'laws' are that the one you posted for CA is concerning only those 'illegal's' that have been ARRESTED and BOOKED already...(see section B of your own post)...
The AZ law can be used with any 'contact' including using 'municipal infractions' like cars on blocks in a drive way...and anyone can be affected, not just those who are 'already arrested & booked'...
BIG DIFFERENCE...learn it...now don't you feel foolish calling CA idiots and racists when you've been proven wrong?
Now as to this article...No, AZ doesn't have the right and it was already decided today. CA businesses helped to build and is part owner of some of AZ's power plants, so are you going to tell me that they will turn off the power to their own owners? I don't think so.

Sorry to burst your California bashing bubble...but we do have the 'law' on our side here...
This is the email I sent to LA's City Council yesterday:

You guys are incredible. I am a Los Angeles resident who completely supports AZ's law.
Whoever made the comment that AZ's letter threatening not to provide us with electricity is "tit for tat" or whatever you said is crazy and totally unaware of how WE THE PEOPLE feel about ILLEGAL ALIENS,
I urged Arizonans to boycott Los Angeles. I'm boycotting Los Angeles (buying outside Los Angeles) and all Latino businesses. I am boycotting because you have absolutely no say in how AZ runs itself and you definitely do not represent how most of us feel. Who do you think you are?
Meanwhile, you can't even get a budget together and are wasting time with something that does not involve you. Or, is this a ploy to try and get out of contracts to help reduce the budget?
Check out the Pew Research Poll. Over 60% of the country supports AZ's law. Everyone except you that is.
Good luck getting re-elected.

> Public Supports Arizona Immigration Law
> Democrats Divided, But Support Provisions
> May 12, 2010
> The public broadly supports a new Arizona law aimed at dealing with illegal immigration and the law's provisions giving police increased powers to stop and detain people who are suspected of being in the country illegally.
> Fully 73% say they approve of requiring people to produce documents verifying their legal status if police ask for them. Two-thirds (67%) approve of allowing police to detain anyone who cannot verify their legal status, while 62% approve of allowing police to question people they think may be in the country illegally.

I am so sick and tired of the leftist liberal kooks siding with criminals and those who want to break our laws. Look at what Obama and democrats in congress, along with Bama's cabinet did when Mexican president Calderone put down Arizona. Did they tell him that we support all of our states or did they give a standing ovation? THEY GAVE A STANDING OVATION!!!! Sick and pathetic anti-American scum they are.
Arizona is enforcing a federal law. As daddy used to say "Alligator mouth and a humming birds butt". Careful the worm may turn.
I SAY IN THE MOST EXTREME MANNER. YES! i was born and raised in tucson.arizona and knew few whites of my type, most were hispanics.native americans(as am i atleast an 8th,) as well as. for lack of a better word.(much darker than my bloodline) and middle easterners... now, by the time i came to my first employment@22yo. my hometown was over run by such as above takeing up our JOBS for very little and our hotels basicly given to them with thousands of dollars just to come to our country by our own government! i did not agree then and surely even less now. they all need to get back where they belong, i would love to send them back myself !!!
I live in Arizona..and not just yes but hell yes..cut them off!
Cut them off. California is bankrupt already. Go Arizona!!! Thanks McSame about the Alabama comment (compliment).
This is not Arizona pulling the plug on the electric contracts to punish Los Angeles. If Los Angeles is boycotting Arizona, it would mean that they are not doing ANY contracts with the State of Arizona. The commissioner in Arizona's comment was in regards to Arizona being willing to let Los Angeles renegotiating existing electricity contracts. If the elected leadership of Los Angeles feels so strongly about Arizona's stand on illegal immigration and wants to boycott the state, then maybe they are willing to let their constituents pay higher electricity bills.
They have every right. I hope they cut any water that is being sold to california also.
I love the way Calderon put it in his speech ... "OUR people will be discriminated against". Who are OUR people?? Illegal immigrants ... that's who. We may as well surrender to Mexico and call OURselves Amexica. This is getting stupid. Figure it out America!! And ... yes, pull the plug on L.A. ... I used to "live" there. Give it to Mexico ... they can have it.
NO...of course not! CA has a contract with AZ. If AZ doesn't supply the power they will be in violation of the contract and not only could CA sue them, they would stop making payments on the power which would desimate the AZ budget!
By this logic, CA filing suit would be in direct contradiction of a boycott of business with Arizona. I would love to see CA sue to force AZ to continue doing business in the face of a CA boycott on AZ business! I wouldn't be one bit surprised, however.
Like the law in question, you have obviously not read the article (RTFA)... The AZ commissioner never said they would breach contract, but rather, "renegotiate your power agreements." I think it's safe to say he means at the end of the current contract period, which as far as you know may run out tomorrow.
I think CA's threat to "des[s]imate the AZ budget" by boycotting all business and new contracts would probably hurt more than losing the power revenue
So LA has a right to cancel contract, and AZ doesn't? wow.
Please undertand the entire issue before commenting...this is for estre68132...Los Angeles wants to boycott Arizona by cancelling existing contracts they have with Arizona in protest of Arizona's FAIR AND LEGAL immigration law. So estre68132, what your saying is LA can cancel contracts with AZ but AZ can't cancel contracts with LA? Why?
Of course they should cut there power. If they Boycott Ariz. then Ariz. should honour there boycott and not send them Ariz. power. But send them all the illegals that they pick up.
California and L.A. specifically should mind its own business. They should take all the illegals in Arizona and bus them to downtown L.A. ! ! ! And yes, it's Arizona's power and they don't have to send it to L.A. ! ! !
Thank you, JoeB-460595....took the words right out of my mouth about Cal. and LA taking all of Arizona illegals! There is only one way to become a United States citizen...go through the right way...like everyone else has! Or stay hiding in the shadows.........
I live in L.A. and I would love for az. to turn off the power, maybe then the stupid people in L.A. would wake up. This place is a cesspool due to illegals and we have no intelligent city council or mayor representing us. Vote them all out as soon as possible.
Has L. A. county finally lost their minds...Boycott all you want and while you are at it move mexico"s boarder to include your county and take advantage of the mexican laws... Arizona turn off the power and give them the justice they deserve!
California, is the main reason for most of our country problems. Please stay on the west coast.
I live in California and I agree, but not all parts are liberal dreamers. The politicians past and present are to blame,I am embarassed that politicians like Pelosi and Barbara Boxer are from C.A. and sadly will be re-elected by the liberal majority(notably the San Fransisco ,L.A. ,sacramento area)So if the rest of the country despises us ,I dont blame them.
L.A. needs to invite all illegal aliens from Arizon to come to L.A.
Turn off the power.
ABSOLUTELY! Why would California want anything from Arizona? I thought that's what a boycot was all about to begin with. Go Arizona! I only wish Gov Rick Perry (TX) was as strong as Gov Jan Brewer (AZ).
Is this the old Vermont fire wood case all over again ?
LA can't boycot a state and AZ can't the power, and they both know it. It's all talk.
After all of the bull and cr@p answers on this topic, finally one that actually is correct.
Well done.
Of course AZ should retaliate. Never give in to a bully.
The Federal law was meant to be enforced, or it would not have been enacted. The people of AZ need help and if the Feds, for political reasons, refuse to do their most important job of protecting us, then that responsibility must devolve to the State.
When someone wants to hurt you economically. Its time to Hit the off button, No power. What is good for the goose , is good for the gander.
I leave in LA. We also have out of control of illegal residence here. Arizona is doing something to start to make it better. LA should be wake up and be wiser.
