I hope everyone asks themselves, did I use my vote last election to change the congress or did I vote for the incumbent, self-serving politician, be it a Republican or Democrat, who has become entrenched in office. How is it that congress had a 12% approval rating yet 96% were reelected? The "my congressman is ok, it's all the others that are the problem" syndrome was, as always, in play. I think it's relatively safe to predict that a handful of "TP" candidates will get elected come November. Their seats will, for the most part, come from GOP districts. The GOP will thus be weakened on some issues, as the TP representatives will not march in lockstep with the Republican Party. The Dems will lose a few seats, as expected after a presidential win. But they will still retain both majorities, and will, in effect, have at least as much "power" as they do right now, since some of the TP representatives will occasionally vote with the Dems. The old guard GOP reps which the TP may be replacing, always vote with the GOP as it stands right now. I think the Tea Party represents a small net loss for the GOP, and possibly a small net gain for the Dems. There are still about 6 months to go, and I think it's fairly obvious that the Tea Party movement is losing some of it's steam. There is no additional groundswell of support coming for this movement; it already has whatever support it's ever going to get. That may be enough to have a small effect on the mid-term elections, but that's about all she wrote. And it probably won't be the effect the Tea Party has been hoping for, either...

The real issue here is America! It is not one political party or another. Frankly, because both party's are to blame to different extents. Some may blame the Bush Administration, and to an extent they are not wrong. However, in all fairness, President Bush had very little control during the last 6 1/2 years of his term. Why? Because, NEITHER his party nor himself had any control over Congress, where legislation to effect real change was. That was controlled by Democrats. Like it or not, these are the facts. However, the Bush Administration did run the National Debt up to 472 Billion before leaving office.

However, voters were fools during the last election. I understand the country wanted "Change"; but, you don't vote the most untried, inexperienced candidate into such an position of authority; and expect things to get better. Face the facts, people! There were many more qualified candidates who would have effected better "Change". Now, this country is facing the consequences of those foolish actions...

Our national debt is over 13+ Trillion dollars, with several Trillion more allocated over the next few years. Has anyone considered how long it will take taxpayers to pay down this inconceivable debt? We have a health care bill passed that affords more government control over our daily lives, than any other piece of legislation passed in many years. Plus, one must consider all the "hand-outs"; "payoff's, an "earmarks" added to the bill, to secure enough votes. With 500 Billion to be allocated away from Medicare, struggling businesses footing the initial costs; that in itself is an insult to our nation, regardless of political affiliation. Frankly, this bill was nothing for the President to "crow" over. If anything he should be ashamed over the means and lengths taken to pass it. Bottom line, these actions go to the very fabric of Barack Obama's character; he wants to win by any means, regardless of the consequences to the nation. And, the Democratic Party needs to wake up, you don't hand President Obama every "Change"; legislative Bill or political nominee "Carte Blanche", without check and balances. Your loyalty should be to your voter constituents that your party represents; not a power hungry President.

Our national unemployment percentages are as high as ever. Home foreclosures are high and expected to rise higher, with the next round of ARM mortgages coming due.

Some of you may say, that I am unfairly attacking the Democratic Party and, specifically, President Barack Obama. Not so. I am simply holding this Majority Ruling Party and our President to the same censure each of you held previous administrations.

Many of the Democratic Party and, primarily, Obama Supporters, use the color accusation against any criticism or instances they can't defend. That trump card is wearing very thin, nor can you continually blame every administration misstep on the Republicans and prior administrations. People are recognizing that for what it really is "buck passing excuses."

This is not a political party affiliation; nor, is it color related. After all, Truth wins out and Truth is Color Blind.

So, let's look at a few facts. President Obama made about 500 campaign promises during his bid for the presidency. Usually, these occured during stirring speeches, meant to incite the audience to his side and overlook his lack of real qualifications for the position sought. However, one must give credit where credit is due. President Obama did motivate a younger generation into political activity. Youth apathy has been a disgrace for decades. Alternately, it is a shame our youth became so impassioned over a candidate, exclusively based on "Untried Promises" and "Impassioned Speech making"; rather than taking a closer look at the candidate's substance.

*The President has not ended the war in six months as promised, he has extended President Bush's military plans and spending into 2011.

*The Mortgage Reorganization promised to help foreclosed homeowners; is a joke. Most, can't qualify. If you were late on a payment, you don't qualify.

*What about "Cleaning Up Washington" in the first 100 days. I see as many lobbyists in the Obama Administration as any other previous Administration.

*Unemployment is still just as high. No big change there.

*Reduced Government spending. Wrong, the Obama Administration is spending more than ANY prior administration in the history of this nation.

The list goes on regarding broken and unkempt promises.

As a result, we now have a President and Democratic Controlled Congress, that openly show an agenda of more government control over citizen's; uncensored and continued spending; lack of regard for constitutional law, such as the 2nd Amendment (Right to Bear Arms); and Immigration Requirements.

Finally, one must consider the agenda of the Supreme Court. Our President's motivation is to create a Supreme Court, so liberal, that the justices are creating law instead of interpreting it. We cannot afford Justices that are striking down Constitutional Law based on personal beliefs; rather than the strict outline of our laws in place. Laws are created by Congress, ratified and signed into place by the President. However, the Supreme Court sees fit to sidestep the Constitution and create their own laws. With the President's current Supreme Court Justice nomination; can one interpret his motivation and agenda any differently? Like it or not, our Supreme Court must have a balance of Conservative and Liberal Justices; it is this variance of law interpretation that has made our highest court in the land, so effective for over 200 years.

My lack of respect for this President was effected during his campaign bid. When Barack Obama in an address to German Citizens during his military troop visit; stated "he was a citizen of the world" not an American; and was embarassed by American Policies and political actions. That was enough for me. Right or Wrong, I don't need to elect and definately not re elect a President who is ashamed of America and whose first loyalty isn't to this nation.

We now have a President who censures Arizona for attempting to deflect the influx of illegal residents and drug cartel wars spilling across the border into Arizona. Some of you may call this "Racial Profiling". Like it or not, the majority of Illegal Residents are from Mexico and South America. This is where most of the crime crossing our borders are coming from. Add this to the fact, that most illegal residents don't want to take necessary constitutional steps to become legal residents or citizens, subject to our laws and taxes; what choice does Arizona have?

My question is, instead of censuring a state for taking a stand, the Federal Government should have previously taken; perhaps, it would bode well for President Obama to remember where his loyalty should lay. This isn't a political debate, it is American citizens in harms way in Arizona due to the illegal problems there. Plain and simple.

Conclusively, it's time for the great awakening. Politicians should have term limits of three terms (it takes that long to effect real change). Not all incumbents are ill effective; and it's about time, voters took a good look at each prospective candidates work history.

However, it is time to get the control freaks out of Washington; starting with Pelosi and Harry Reid. I really don't need politicians telling me; legislation is being passed regardless of public outcry; after all "they know what's best for the country."

Let's hope by 2012, voters have come to their senses and understand to effect "Real Change"; in this country; you must have a properly qualified candidate. Empty promises and stirring speeches are fine; but, what good are they if the candidate it too "Green" to back them up. It will take generations to dig out of the mess we now find ourselves in.

I think it is all about fear. Fear of losing a job, or not finding one if you've already lost your job. Fear of change, fear of losing something you're not quite sure of but you know it must be bad. Fear of somebody else getting something that you should have, maybe even somebody who is here illegally. Fear, fear, fear. If things are going poorly it must be somebody's fault, and Washington is getting the blame. Frankly, I think Wall St is much more to blame, though regulation is surely an area where Washington should have done much better.

The Tea Party talks about "saving this country", about "preserving American freedoms". But when I ask for specifics I never get any. What are we to be saved from, exactly? What freedoms exactly are about to be lost? I think the Tea Party provides an outlet for genuine fear and frustration, but doesn't really offer much in the way of real solutions. Getting rid of incumbents across the board, without regard to what they stand for or their records is an action, not a solution. Sort of like kicking something when you are mad. Feels good but not very effective.

In Maine, the Tea Party put in a Republican platform that calls for a return to the gold standard; out west (I forget which state) there is a call to repeal the amendment that allows for popular vote for Senators (instead it would have Senators elected by state legislators, as in the original Constitution). These and other ideas make me wonder if the public understands what the Tea Party and the far right are really advocating.

In Pennsylvania, only registered party members vote in primary elections, and typically no independents vote. For Burns to lose 53% - 45% is saying something. Burns and Critz have a re-match in the fall. With the independents in full force, that will be an interesting race to watch.

Republicans wrote the bill in 1999, but it passed only because members from both parties voted for it - Republicans did not have the votes by themselves. Bill Clinton signed it into law.

By Jan 2003, George Bush and conservatives recognized the problem when regulators came forward and they noticed defaults over these loans on the rise. The Democrats dug in claiming everyone was liars, excoriated the regulators, demanding the regulators be investigated, and anyone against the program was racist or heartless. There is plenty of Youtube video showing excerpts of the procedings and news conferences.

In 2005, The house did pass and send a bill to congress, but it immediately went nowhere until a senator sponsor got through to McCain. But the Bill lanquished because the trial votes showed it would not pass. In the Fall of 2006, Republicans finally brought the reform bill to the floor where it failed 42 Republicans for it (there were 54 Republicans) to 57 Democrats and Republicans against reform.

In 2007 the Democrats took over both houses. Any legislation regarding reform was tabled. There was a campaign claim that Democrat did try to do somethimg, but I haven't seen a bill number or any news stories about that. There are a number of news stories of Bernanke and Paulson testifying or being interviewed though March 2008 saying there is a problem while trying not to cause the bubble to break.

Harold Social Security and Medicare are government entitlements. Please return your check to the treasury and throw away your medicare care, on principle of course.

Not that younger people like us will even get social security at the rate the government is spending money. The Treasury says that SSA is almost broke.

Don't worry, the completely inept SSA will still be around when you retire. They've been spewing that it is broke, won't exist, etc for years. Granted in the very near future, expense will exceed income, but there is NO WAY the government let's SSA die a natural death: it's too nice a pot to raid (and each government be they GOP or Democrat has done so). The simple solution will be that they'll adjust the maximum taxable earnings limit.

I am sorry but if you know anything, you should realize that Social Security and Medicare are NOT government entitlements for someone who has WORKED. They are EARNED by payments made through all the years of working and by employers who have to match those payments! If you are lucky, you might receive back what you paid in. These are not a choice to pay in to...the GOVERNMENT requires it! Imagine what you might have if you paid yourself directly instead of through the Government! On another note: I don't have health insurance, but I would rather go without it and struggle with my health than to have the government (who is suppose to work for us by the way) force me to buy something I don't want. Just a quick comment to timefortruth about 'earning' Social Security and Medicare. My Mother, God rest her soul, worked maybe 25 years at clerical jobs, never made over $12,000 a year, and retired at 70. She died last year at almost 95 having drawn a SS check for over 25 years (on her own account), that far exceeded what she or her employers ever paid in. When people say they are getting back their own money, I would suggest they do some calculations -- you'd be surprised how little you actually paid into SS.

For the older generations that may have been true, but if you are less than 55, and have worked all your life, between what you and your employer contributed plus compounded interest for 35 years, you've put in quite a chunk and still have a dozen years to go.

alabama, in your example your mother only started work at 45 if I read your numbers correct (worked 25 years and retired at 70). At that point the average person has already contributed over 20 years into SSA. Try doing some sums as to how much 12.4% (your contribution plus your employer's) generated over the average worker's 45-50 year career could have generated if it had been conservatively invested. Also do some research into annuities. You'll be surprised how much you can actually generate. Also, never forget there are unfortunately many who never even get to collect on their retirement benefit (and these days you can throw in a good few illegals who are taxed by their employers - rare but it happens and is documented at the SSA and IRS sites - but will never collect obviously). Plus your mother lived until she was 95, well beyond the average lifespan. And finally, while your mother was at the low end of the scale, you seem to be overlooking the large number of people at the opposite end of the scale who have 12.4% contributed that will never inure to their benefit. SSA is a giant Ponzi scheme. While population still grows at a ridiculous pace, there will always eventually be funds in the kitty to pay for a smaller prior age group. That is of course provided the government quits raiding it all the time.

Voter-in-LA I don't think most people are astute enough to invest or 'save' the percentages of their income now paid into SS (I would not be). To me, private savings accounts or annuities for retirement sound like a ponzi scheme that investment banks/companies could play with and lose...as shown by recent financial collapse. In my opinion, for most of us SS is the best way to go. As for those on the 'higher income' spectrum, I remember hearing YEARS ago that Bob Hope even drew a SS check and wondered why--I believe he donated his back.

Sorry I realize this isn't a discussion about SS -- I am not angry, but I do believe term limits and mandatory public financing of campaigns are ideas whose time has come.

This morning on ‘GMA’ Republican and Tea Party victor in Kentucky’s Senate Primary, Rand Paul spoke with Robin Roberts about his victory. He’s already coming under fire for holding a victory party at a private country club while at the same time claiming to be a man of the people:

ROBIN: Some people find it a bit ironic that your victory party last night was at a private country club in Kentucky. Doesn’t that kind of send a mixed message there?

PAUL: I think at one time people used to think of golf and golf courses and golf clubs as being exclusive. But I think in recent years now you see a lot of people playing golf. I think Tiger Woods has helped to broaden that in the sense that he’s brought golf to a lot of the cities and to city youth, and so no, I don’t think it’s nearly as exclusive as people once considered it to be.

Bob said "Medicare IS socialism, so is Social Security" and that is why our country is in the shape it is in. Progressives believe they give rights to their subjects not our Creator and has put this country in a downward spiral for about 100 years. This is the current fiscal state of SS and MC:

SS - $15.3 Trillion in unfunded liability

MC - $75.4 Trillion in unfunded liability

Add that to the current US debt $14 Trillion mainly due to uncontrolled spending on many entitlement programs and here is what every American owes:

Debt Per citizen - $41,964

Debt per Taxpayer - $117,852

Unfunded Liability per citizen - $351,590

If you think socialism works, there is no hope for you. It has failed everywhere it has been tried. Look at Europe. If you think our country is on the correct path, you have blinders on. If you think this is sustainable, you are blind. The current administration just passed another entitlement program that was not funded with Health Care. No government program has ever came in on budget and most times comes in many, many times over what was estimated. Health Care has already been proved not to be accurate with its estimates and who knows what the actual cost will be. 10X over estimates which is similar to MC.

The left loves to degenerate the Tea Party movement. Most of the members, myself included, know that our current path will destroy our future generations chance of prosperity as all wealth created will go towards more government or to the interest on our unpayable debt. We are willing to make the sacrifices now instead of selflessly dumping them on our kids and grand-kids and their kids. Stay blind to the facts. Greece is coming to America unless we stop our current direction, make the hard decisions and face the pain that will come with it. Or we could just dump it on future generations. Screw them anyway. I want my entitlement NOW! That's the mantra of the left.

OK, enoughsenough, I see your points, but what I don't see are your alternatives. What exactly are you proposing that we do? It is easy to critique what is there. I 'd like to know what policies you want in its place. And please, don't just say let the free market take its course. I have seen that (and so has my 401K) and it is u-g-l-y.

How do you handle your family or personal budget? Do you spend money you don't have? Do you promise people "things" and then steal it from your neighbor for them? Do you steal your kid's credit cards then max them out, then take your grand-kids credit cards and do the same?

One answer to our problems is in the Constitution and the writings of our founding fathers which have been distorted and pillage for over a century. Our government has abused our trust and destroyed future prosperity with false promises that won't come to fruition. We need to rely on their knowledge of oppression and excessive taxation to rid ourselves of the new progressive ideology.

After we rediscover the true meaning of the Constitution, the second part comes with personal responsibility from our leaders all the way down to the individual. Is it going to hurt? You betcha! But are you willing to suffer the pain now or throw it on future generations. I'm talking serious pain, depression like. Until we rid ourselves of the stranlehold our debt and unfounded liablilities have on our economy and operate/run our financials like you would your household, we will continue to spiral downward.

Do you remember the "Roaring 20's"? It started with a severe recession in the late 1910's but you will have a hard time finding information out there on this recession. Little known President Warren G Harding was elected in 1920 and cut spending and taxes dramatically which created the Roaring 20s.

The problem now is we have a huge debt, huge entitlements and huge bueracrcacy that we did not have then. It will be painful. The question is will we control the pain or will the depression come and "fundamentallly change America".

I'm sorry, you're not answering my question. What concrete things do you want these new legislators to do? So far, all I have seen here are philosophical statements about how things ought to be. Fine. Now, translate those philosophical statements into something real. What do you want to happen? For example, how do you plan to bring the budget into line, EXACTLY? And sorry, "spend less than we take in" is not sufficient. I need hard details -- what would you cut out of the federal budget, EXACTLY? Where do you believe the waste is -- and I am not challenging the idea of overspending or waste, I just want to know where YOU think the waste is.

I am kind of tired of all this philosophy, broad statements about following the Constitution, etc. I need real ideas here, so I can understand what TP candidates would do if I voted for them. Other than say stuff like you guys.

Welfare is a tiny part of the deficit. War, our incredibly oversized military, the Bush Tax and interest on all the above are 95% of the deficit. Welfare policy has not changed since the Clinton Administration. The Clinton Administration actually had a surplus. The only increase in welfare has been because Bush ran the economy into the ground and most American are moral enough not to want those people to starve. Not you apparently.

The Department of Defense budget for 2010 is $673 billion, including the actions in Afghanistan and Iraq.

The 2010 budget for Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid is $2.1 trillion.

Even if the defense budget was cut to $0, the federal government would still have a deficit for each of the next 10 years.

PA's 12th district is 2 to 1 democrat to republicans. Murtha put the P in pork and being that the 12th has been at the trough for decades they were worried about losing their "free" money. This puts the spotlight on one of the main problems in America. The federal government is not constitutionally permitted to throw money around like it's theirs. If a state wants a new airport, like Murtha's airport that every taxpayer in America contributed to, then the citizens of that state pays for it. The federal government has become an entity that believes all ills can be solved by throwing other people's money at it. Most times the ill is one the government created in the first place. I've actually got the cure for most ills; it's called personal responsibility. But the left cannot have that, because they believe most people are too stupid to take care of themselves and that's why we have our current fiscal situation. Of course the "too stupid" is becoming a reality in the US as our federal school system has removed most personal responsibility from our schools. Everyone gets a trophy, no valedictorian, no red markers on tests-might hurt their little feelings, no need to try to succeed cause we need to bring you down to everyone else's level. Most Tea Partiers I know are not wealthy at all. My family is on one income as my husband cant find work in a country that now outsources everything. Term limits won't solve our problems. Many of our problems are caused because we vote for individuals who make completely unrealistic promises, that sound great but don't truly address root causes; i.e. campaign promises. Most of the so-called solutions presented in this discussion forum are nothing short of propagandistic, emotionally charged, simplistic nonsense that appeals to people on a gut level but would do nothing but make our nation worse off. As a people, we are in danger of abandoning a search for meaningful solutions based on self-sacrifice and the common good in favor of malignant finger-pointing and the substitution of baseless opinion over facts and sound science.

Coming on the heels of the greatest generation, who shrugged off the Great Depression, defeated Fascism, built the richest and most powerful nation the world had ever seen to that point, ended segregation, fended off the Soviet empire until it finally dissolved from within, and traveled to outer space we are dangerously close to becoming a nation of individuals who want rights for themselves (or their group) but not for others, government funding of their favorite programs without the burden of paying taxes, and unlimited imports of consumer goods without selling anything of value overseas.

We have met the enemy and he is us. Whether you liked Jack Kennedy or not, what we really need now if for people to "ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country." This country was once great. It still is, but is slipping. We can be greater than ever, but only by each accepting our own share of responsibility for the mess we're in and doing everything we can to make things better.

Note: This is not the same as blaming others, whether those others are politicians, Democrats, Republicans, conservatives, liberals, the media, the rich, the poor, the immigrants, the majority, any particular minority or group of minorities, labor, big business, foreign countries, etc. Real solutions must be found. Those solutions should unite us, not divide us. Economic solutions will be found in manufacturing goods or providing services that are of such outstanding value that we can export them. When we do that, we will find that there is room for all of us.

To the Tea Partiers here -- what specific solutions do you expect your candidates to enact once the bums have been thrown out? I mean, once you've gotten rid the the bad guys, what exactly do you expect your guys to do? NHLucky, if you truly want to know what the tea party is about, what they want and their solutions to todays problems then i suggest you go to their website and do a little research since you are genuinely curious. i can tell you this much, we want our government to be exactly what it was intended to be, our forefathers biggest point in the constitution was individual and states rights and a small federal government. that has somehow been reversed over the years and we are all seeing the end result. it was states rights that took them several years to get right before the final draft of the constitution was written and signed. we also believe that separation of church and state did not be any means mean no mention of god or religion in government, on the contrary it was the same fathers that wrote the constitution that opened their meetings with prayer for guidance and enacted a national day of prayer,it was government mandated religion that they were against such as what great britain had. i don't blame democrats anymore or any less then i blame republicans. they are all at fault. smaller government means less federal taxes, which in turn means more money available to individual states to decide it's needs and care for their constituancy as they feel is required. the feds fight against states rights (look at arizona) and want to have control, this is exactly opposite of what our founding fathers wanted. so you can call us wing nuts or right wing terrorists or whatever you want but the plain truth is we are constitutionalists. we feel the federal government has overstepped it's authority and we want that corrected. if you really are interested then i suggest you start by reading the constitution, then go on to read the personal writings of those that signed that document to see what they were thinking when that document was written, you will find the majority of the framers and signers believed that it was inspired by god as their writings clearly state, just as you will see that clearly individual rights and states rights were of the utmost concern, and a small federal government was deemed absolutely necessary to accomplish what the constitution set forth. the constitution has been perverted by all parties, the same document that they swear to uphold when they take office. it's time to get back to what made this country great to begin with and to have a government that truly works for the people and upholds what we have held dear since this country's inception

Well, Angel, those are all interesting philosophical positions. What I want to know is how does that translate into policy. I am pretty sure you are against government-sponsored health insurance and for term limits. Are you against Medicare? Social Security? Federal subsidies for education? Are you for regulating the financial industry? Give me something I can sink my teeth into that is real, hard policy. For example, Tea Party literature always talks about smaller government and lower taxes. How do you propose to achieve that? What areas of the current government will you cut out? Just tell me that -- in specific terms. That's all I want to know.

Why not compare the policies of Obama to those implemented in the late 20s and early 30s in Germany. I haven't seen a lot of republican leaning corporations (including wall street) running the country or driving the tea party. They may influence voters through advertising or by influencing corrupt politicians, but it is still the voters who decide who gets to represent them in Washington.

If you look at corporations (made up of "people) and their influence on politics, they are usually distributed to all candidates. Unions on the other hand, donate over 90% to democratic candidates - this is truly influence to tip the vote in favor of one party.

When I attended a tea party rally (the first political rally I ever attended) near Chicago, I was impressed that every person I met was just a plain concerned person like me.

Corporations do not hold any indefinite political leanings or affiliations. No bank or corp is Republican nor Democrat. They are for themselves and themselves only. Who ever they think will be in power, they will throw their money behind the favored candidate. Banks and Corporations hold no allegiance to Country or fellow countrymen. They are internationalists/ globalists. What we see in Washington is representatives and administrations pandering to the Corporate global elite. And that is exactly why we are in the fix we are in with such opinions expressed by this person. We are a Republic and one of the keystones of a Republic is an educated citizenry which thinks through and about issues and not responding to the emotional storms created by the media - left or right. Fox News and to some degree MSNBC represent opposite ends of the spectrum - but Fox yells and shouts and throws tantrums and fans anxiety with opinion, not fact. But what is really sad is citizens are buying it and playing into the "dump them all" mentality - and guess what . . . the only incumbents in Washington will be the Lobbies.
