I was just reading in the paper today, about a man who was here in NY on the morning of 9/11 and was stranded with his daughter in Manhattan, and an off duty cab driver picked them up, took them home (way out of his way) and refused to charge them. He was Pakistani, his last name was Mohammed.

Some people are just not able to accept free expression due to the intolerance of their religion. Since they are not ready for the gift of freedom (of speech) and cannot accept a separation of church and state, Sweden should deport said troublemakers back to their intolerant theocracy/country of origin. We have been in the Middle East WAY before 9/11. In 1953 the US toppled the democratic government of Iran and installed a dictator. Guess what? The Iranians didn't like that too much.

I used to think islam (I refuse to capitalize it) was a religion like any other. I support gay rights, all the rest of the liberal stuff. But then I read koran, ha'dith and studied its history. Mohammed was a Jim Jones who made it big. He was a psychotic monster, he was not a prophet, and he had nothing to do with god in any way. Mohammed was like a hitler who succeeded. He raped, he tortured, he assassinated, he committed mass murder and he changed his religion to suit his latest whim. It is almost certain that he was poisoned by his inner circle of military men who realized that he was insane, not a prophet.

There is no reasoning with muslims. There is no quarter from them, and there can be no quarter given to them. The only way islam will accept our way is to destroy it utterly. That is the only way. Islam is supposed to exist in three domains:
1. The domain of war with those who are not muslim until they are utterly subjugated.
2. The domain of hudna (incorrectly termed truce by us). Hudna means to sue for ceasing of hostilities so that muslims can build up their strength to attack and win. This is what mohammed did.
3. The domain of islam (incorrectly translated as "peace"). Correctly translated, islam means "submission". Within islam, the rule of islam is complete.

2001 - We toppled the Taliban in Afghanistan. I'm sure some of the Afghans appreciate that.

No other religion that I am currently aware of, actively advocates the killing of people who are not of the religion. I read the Quran cover to cover and started counting the occurences of the phrase "kill infidels where you find them". I lost count at 140. Infidels, by the way, are anyone who is not muslim. I am sick and tired of these so called peaceful people using violence in response to every little alleged slight of their so called religion. If that religion is about peace, how come the average, run of the mill muslim does not put a stop to the 'minority' carrying out violence in the name of allah? As a catholic, I tend to critisize the past of my own religion more than i do any others for it is through our critisisms that we remain moderated. The fact that no one in the world is alowed to critisize the muslim religion is the biggest problem they have and as long as that stands their extremests will run rampant over their world just as the catholic church did in its dark days.

I have an idea that should take care of at least most of the problem. If I understand the Muslim religion correctly (and I freely admit I am no expert), then every Muslim man seeing the naked picture of Hillary would have to kill himself. Sarge..Though I was brought up in a Christian home, I am also a former atheist and agnostic. My life was a wreck and I was unaware of it. I was so unhappy despite some love and success in life. When I looked inside myself I saw darkness. In desperation, I prayed to God. Like meditation, it took me to a certain calm place inside which gave me some peace. Then I forgot about it cause I was feeling better. Long story short, I eventually saw that there was a tie in between spirituality and depression remission. I don't attend church, never been a joiner of groups. But, with God I have progressed to become medication/drug/tobacco/alcohol independent. I can now have relationships that aren't all about sex. God was inside of me all along but I was too horny, stoned, proud, egotistical and stubborn to accept the reality of my human weaknesses and failings. God raises a lot of people like me, and worse, up from a basically wasted existence. We need more God.

As for this artist who got attacked, I do not personally think this should not have happened to him even with his creation of the cartoon depicting the prophet Muhammad. I think this sort of lashing out is because, as you say, they feel as a whole targeted by the West and this is leading to such outbursts.

I think your opinions hold validity since you are over there and get a firsthand opportunity to discuss such topics with them to understand the reasoning behind such things.

It is a pity to see so many problems and terrible acts being done just behind the guise of religion. Religion is being used to carry out people's own will and ambitions, which is very contrary to what religion preaches in its purest form, without people meddling with it and creating various interpretations.

I am glad that while over there you are trying to understand their culture and their way of thinking because just because a country thinks and lives differently from the West does not make them "backwards" or "wrong," such thoughts are ethnocentric. I hope you leave a good impression about the West while over there because the more we work to break down misconceptions about each other's countries, the more this ignorance driven hate will decline. Christianity in this century does not teach violence. Jesus speaks of love for your fellow man. The Muslim religious schools around the world teach that it is a good Muslim's duty to convert the entire world to Islam or to kill you as an infidel. It does not get much more black and white than that. Islam needs to move from the 12th century into the 21st century. Islam is a religion of peace if you are a man and a believer - leaving out most of the rest of the world such as women and children.
