What is this the 4th or 5th quake in a couple of weeks.
That's what I was thinking. Talk about a lot of seismic activity.
I'm reading allot of stories AND hearing people claim (on midnight radio) that HAARP is causing earthquakes. (Or can cause earthquakes).
Is there any truth to that?
If you Google HAARP and earthquake you will see what I mean.
If you look on a map and this quake, the '08 quake and the recent quakes and fault lines, it does appear that longitudinally there is quite the shift occuring. Of course, latitudinal differences exist, but those pieces are also relatively close to the more vertical.
These tectonic plates are somewhat interconnected, and are at similar depths (though the quakes themselves vary in depth). Also, see the maps for the same that have had less reported, deep shifts in the past decade (those that were minimally or not at all felt).
Hopefully, as I've posted in the past, this is only the puzzle that interconnects our continents stretching it's legs a bit, and not it re-modeling Earth. Many of these places are common to earthquakes; they're not neccisarily new. Some difference is the frequency and locations, magnitudes combined. But, again..... hoping for simple coincidence.
And the great Rube Goldberg Machine of Earthquakes in 2010 continues.
Wonder when this domino effect is going to end.
Only my opine, but I just read up on HAARP, and don't see any link to anything they conject there is a linkage to. Certainly these waves have frequency and amplitude, and may affect living organisms well before they would weather or any tectonic plate shifting, most especially those that are well below 80 miles (most scientists do agree these are the precurssing 'dominos' that start, when both qualitatively and quantitavely strong enough).
Again, living things I would agree there must be effect on, as even blades of living grass conduct a current and are affected by high tension wires. But, to believe it could affect anything like this would have to be interconnected with the theory of 'torsion' upon Earth's goundwork.
I also want to comment; there are those of us with different ideals, different beliefs and different plain ole' opinions. BUT... as I've noted as of late, there are many, MANY immature and worthless comments as of this time below the top part of this thread.
I understand freedom of speech, so don't think I'm for censorship; only saying..... I've noticed more and more of this. Just my opinion, but this is the same distracting bits that keep other discussions from both remaining on track and being productive.
Actually, there is a link. Enter, HAARP earthquake weapon into Google.
Hi Moderation! Are you sure it's not oil and gas drilling that is causing these earthquakes? Because that's what I've been told!
(wink, wink Vine Heads....inside joke).
Your all wrong....it's clearly mole people, mole people, mole people, mole people, mole people, mole people.....
I never even considered those damned mole people. Folks, for the love of Pete, we need to look at this from every angle. Time is not on our side!! ;-)
That quake hit an area that borders on Sichuan province where the 2008 quake hit. Sichuan is southwest of the Quighai quake and the epicenters are relatively close. East south/east from both of these areas is the massive Three Gorges dam. There is a possibility that the mass of water could effect the region. The dam also sits on a fault line, although it is about 400 miles away .
goldminor:
Don't be at all surprised if they discover a new fault line that they were unaware of after this quake. It happened in a time not so long ago here in Illinois.
Hey R-Dog; how's it been?
I'm not sure of the physics of it all, but when China is done with it's massive dam project, supposedly it's going to be immense enough that it will move the earth 1 inch off of it's current polar axis.
Again, not sure of the certainty of the science behind this finding, but if true.... what other areas have enough mass to pull opposingly? A bit out there, guranteed, but basic force, mass and gravity formulas.... if there already IS movement afoot, perhaps this exacerbates it?
Jungle George, if not sarcasm, then you're missing the mark by a bit; I never have claimed to know all or much, really.... but do know the difference between different ideas, joking, and am only referring to those comments that seem to appear on all boards, mentioned in my first post. Something to the order of "I bet it was terrorists", why does a planet have to be a 'she' and others are either humor or baiting at or below the level of a 5th grader. I don't think that qualifies me for having a 'superiority' complex there guy.....
I am telling you guys"2012", they also reported here in DC that southwest part of Virginia had a 2.something quake there yesterday too. That is really never heard of around here so I am beginning to believe those Mians and Nostradamus was on to something when they both think the world will end in 2012.
The India plate has been pushing into the Asia plate for milliions of years. The Sumatra quake on 12/26/2004 may have been the trigger that released the subsequent quakes in the mountains in Pakistan and Afghanistan several months later, just before the next winter season struck, and there were other quakes in the same general area in China between the end of 2004 and this year. The Himalayas are rising. Expect to see more.
And NO, HAARP can't do these kinds of things. Earthquakes are caused by subduction of one tectonic plate under another, or in the case of strike/slip quakes, by one plate getting stuck as it tries to slide past another, and by ancient plate boundaries like the one under the New Madrid, Pingrey Grove and Wabash-Ohio fault zones slipping downward into the mantle and melting. The origins of earthquakes are more than two hundre miles beneath your feet. Humans don't have "death star" technology that will cause these kinds of things, no matter what kind of fiction you read on the internet at ridiculous websites like HAARP. The Himalayas were built by tectonic movement.
If you really want to have a bona fide freak session, have a look at the USGS map of the US quakes. There is a large circle of quakes in the west, starting at Mammoth Lakes, around through Nevada, Utah and Colorado, up to Yellowstone in the NW corner of Wyoming, across Idaho to the Cascades and down to Mammoth Lakes. Some times it's extremely active, sometimes it's very quiet, but over a period of a month two years ago, I printed out the daily quake map and saw what looks like a massive bubble under the Rocky Mountains. The volcanoes in the Cascade Range, the Yellowstone caldera and the Long Valley caldera at Mammoth Lakes are all blow holes for that bubble of magma coming up from the mantle zone. If it weren't sitting under the Rockies, we would not be alive today.
Try taking a class in geology or at least read a good book on how the Earth's interior works. It's amazing that we live on a planet that has, for the past 80,000 years, protected us from some of the very devastating events that take place in the natural world.
To be clear, I should have qualified in my post 1.6 that I was referring to others below the 1. section; not below the first comment. At the time of night I'd posted that, there were few comments, and some of the 2., 3., etc.... posts were.... well, what I referred to.
Smokeysmom; not to be off topic, but I hope all's well, and just to say it's not official yet, but some I know are having problems AGAIN with pet foods ( I remember you from the 'pet food recall' posting years ago; wonder whatever happened the Great Baldenario with the extra eye?).
I agree with what you're saying; a bit of a pressure cooker with armor; the areas that had been without had gone over years ago. It's unsettling because the threat remains, especially in the caldera regions. Time will tell, won't it? There's nothing we can do to stop what's been going on for billions of years now.......
All you doomsday sayers...............Please go to the USGS website and read the list of earthquakes daily throught the world. You will be astounded. And as far as the US is concerned, you might read up on the amount of earthquakes in the lower 48. There are 3-4 thousand a day throughout the world.
The Three Gorges dam is holding close to 85 billion tons of water behind its walls. That is a lot of pressure beibg exerted onto the crust below. There were some geologists in China and worldwide, who voiced opposition to the placement of that dam. Interesting to note is that the 2008 Sichuan quake is on the same latitude as the dam and 8 degrees west.
goldminor; that is what I wonder about as well. I've been looking on the net at various sites, but can't really find force-exertion that bears this out as possible, given the depths of many plates, but I personally can't discount that it is indeed possible.
After all, at some point, Earth is actually somewhat hollow, being molten; I do wonder if it's indeed possible, especially at caldera areas and surrounding, for enough pressure to cause X miles of crust to shift or 'give way'? Fault line areas as well....
Moderation, no, no problems with pet foods, but during that recall I started reading the labels more closely. If it says "made in China" now, my cats don't get it. Thanks for asking.
It's Bob's fault. Bob is causing all the earthquakes.
Smokey's; if I remeber correctly, that was the longest running and thus the lengthiest Vine to ever be. Very glad to hear all is well.
Chipper:
That's exactly what they want you to think.
In reality, the testing of our earthquake weapon was deemed an absolute success......eeeeexcellent.
Smokeysmom... I eat a lot of chicken and have taken to cooking extra for the three cats in the house. It is much cheaper and also healthier then giving them anything out of a can.
goldminor; I don't want to get us popped for off-topic, but had bought a meat grinder for my dogs as well; chicken, veggies, whatnot.... and keep it in the fridge.
For validity in posting, back to the quakes..... it's eventual that the earth will realign, and do so massively (perhaps over a long period); I just hope that it isn't starting now, but it has to at some time. I also don't want it to happen to any of my grand or great, great, great grandchildren.... that leaves the emotional arguements, doesn't it? We all have to die, but never want it to be us or those close to us that do.... exceptions and rationalizing.
Sixteen years ago, I read a short article in Science that stated that the rotation of the Earth had been changed due to all the water held back by dams worldwide. The change was minimal but measureable. All of that mass on the outer edge of the skin creates a tugging effect, although in this case it is widely distributed around the globe. Is there a tipping point, where this might have more of an impact on Earth systems? Look at what is being claimed for co2. Also a miniscule amount of change overall, but with a potential effect far greater than the amount.
Pacific Ring Of Fire..... How appropriatly named. Hey, where are all the "world is going to end in 2012(!)" people?
Iceland evacuates hundreds as volcano erupts again
April 14, 2010
Emergency officials and scientists said the eruption under the ice cap was 10 to 20 times more powerful than one last month.
More things spin around the more the come UN done.
Just as long as these recent quakes don't trigger the big one. The 30 mile diameter crater under Yellowstone Park. Then we're all toast.
If you want to know when quakes of 6.0 or larger hit around the planet, go to USGS and you can sign up for alerts. I get the alerts, since I live on the West Coast and things have been extremely active here as you well know, but yes I've been getting a least three or four alerts a week. It's been incredibly active in the Samoan Island chain with two or three 6.0 or larger quakes in just one week.
To Phlan; Hey, if your interested in further observation and opinion look at dvd "Holes In Heaven" Advances in Nikola Tesla Technology (it's about HAARP). One more dvd you may look at is "Chemtrails The Story No One Is Telling", I personally believe these work hand in hand, personal observation for over 8 years now. Supposedly high traces of aluminum particulates, barium,& thorium which are both carcinogens and cancer causing in the air we breath! Our skies are constantly bombarded by aircraft with all kinds of chemtrail patterns left in their wake and our rain clouds dissiminated to nothing. Our skies are left a pale white and occluded all trashed out. There are over 60 weather related ongoing so-called projects for geo-engineering climate or weather, our skies are purportedly being boiled with HAARP and our jet stream being altered. Two companies involved are Dyn-O-Mat from Florida, and Weather Modification Inc. from North Dakota, this is done for the most part nationwide. Look up and see the difference on contrails and wake of chemtrails, have and open mind. The bureaucrats say chemtrails don't exist, so be careful. I don't doubt I'm on their radar, they know who I am in Wash. DC, call your reps. and demand answers and they will do doubt dismiss your concerns. Our health is at risk and our "kids" with the planet of course. Carnicom.com is a good source, and Chemtrail Central on websites. You may want to go to library and check out or buy on web "Angels Don't Play This HAARP" for more in depth research. Thanks..........................
Off topic re: pet foods: Goldminor, good idea to cook chicken for your pets instead of using commercially produced food, but you will need to provide them with something, like baby rice, that adds bulk to it when you grind it up, and make sure that you add vitamins because cats need taurine. Without it, they will go blind. And don't put garlic in it or other cooking seasonings.
Is anyone on this thread interested in a really good bean soup recipe? I'll be happy to post mine. It's hearty, filling, and easy to fix. On that note, stock up on rice, beans, canned and boxed goods, because as a friend of mine said "It's coming". Rodale Press used to publish a book titled "Stocking Up", which is about preserving all kinds of foods. Worth every penny I spent.
The Rodale Institute has a lot of excellent information on food sources and usage. I used to have a copy of their organic gardening encyclopedia. I wish they would reprint that one more time.
If you still have the title you might be able to find it at Amazon. I found my dad's book on the history of tent theater companies that way.
That is a thought. It was such a great reference source for the care of all plants.
Since no one was hurt, lets see how fast our Govt rushes aid to help rebuild the infrastructure and keep the Chinese workers employed. Can't let Walmart stop selling crappy lead based trinkets!!!
That is not being politically correct you will need a BS degree........
text china and press 90999 to make a $10.00 donation
"Since no one was hurt"
400 dead and counting, thousands injured. Your concern for the families of the victims is overwhelming.
My condolences to all those who were affected in one way or another.
At the time he posted there were only 67 confirmed dead, but I guess he didn't notice that either. I happened to read the article right after it hit the news.

No need to do that whatsoever. If you want to donate money to help the Chinese who are suffering a great, great deal because of this earthquake please click on my name and leave a message titled "cash" so I can tell you where to send it.
I'm a well-connected person so I know who to send the money to in China and make sure it's put to good use.
Like I said, people are suffering a great, great deal so please donate as much as you can. Humanity thanks you for it.
At the time I read it, which was within seconds of the story, it said at that time nobody was reported injured. They updated the info several times after I read it. And yes, my prayers do go out to their families.
Lets run over there & give a bunch of money now!!!
First the US will need a loan from China...
They're too populated, anyway.
Wow! Who died and made you God?
what, and give them back there money!!!
I have to agree with Sherry! Over populated! nameless - Why would you support these chinese hethens?
ok, just cuz I'm feelin like being a big ol jerk today...
Chinese people are like Doritos. Crunch all you want. They'll make more.
sorry. Blame Sherri. She started it.
Bob-809876 - Wow. Spew hate much? How would you feel if 400 of your closest friends and family died? (Or maybe with that attitude you don't have friends, so you wouldn't understand --- that makes sense.) Just because they're Chinese (and there's a billion of them) means their lives are worth less? Shame on you!
and Spencer 399802 - don't jump off a bridge just because you see some lunatic doing it!
And Sherri is just an uninformed, narrow-minded, bigoted idiot. Post when you have something intelligent to say!
The Down Lowe - Just because I happen to agree with Sherri which I still do! I knew it wouldn't be much longer before somebody like you who would come on here and make some stupid comment like that!!! Shame on you for even posting!
Sherri - Please pay no attention to this creep. The Down Lowe - Your beginning to violate the number one code conduct on here!
Spencer, you just made me hungry for Doritos.....
Sherri, to say that China isn't overpopulated would be a lie.....
Honest and funny.....I like it.
Do you think humans will ever learn? If most people look around their own homes right now you can and should imagine what would be ruined and damaged if there was an earthquake.... Some people have insurance, some don't and would look to the government for aid.. For humans anywhere to think this couldn't happen to them when it does everywhere, we just think it couldn't and won't happen to us. I think about it and hope I've prepared... I've traveled around and seen how the poor in different countries build and live, most are a recipe for disaster just add mother natures fury, death and destruction are going to be common in most situations.
I am all for natural disasters, I think it helps keep a natural balance to the planet... man and our cocky nature is what's to blame here.. Opposable shmozable you just built a structure that is lying on your head.... and her head, and grandmas head and he doesn't even have a head anymore..
This is the work of terrorists; better get the NSA on that right away!!!
Now you're channeling the Old Bush Administration. LOL
Maybe if China gets better news coverage of their 6.9 than Calexico got for a7.2, they will do better in the aid department. In Calexico, water shot up through the floors of homes leaving many uninhabitable. There hasn't been that much organizd aid there thanks to the media having everyone believe that only cacti have been affected.
Oh you betcha. It's a total disaster all right. People in that area just don't know what to do with a house with running water. My God, one of them might get a shower more than once every three months.
LOL !
Bad JuJu........
Thank God that posting is the extent of your talents--when the Big One hits you'll drown in the toilet...
The really sad thing is they'll probably never realize that most of the problem is that their buildings aren't very sound and many of them would collapse like a house of cards in an earthquake. A lot of these deaths were probably preventable had they put more care into how their buildings were made.
It's coming from a country that produces lead-filled toys, deadly dogfood, chemical filled infant formulas, etc. Government with little or no regulations. Chinese companies care more about profits more than safety.
It's like telling bankers to stop acting like legalized loan sharks or politicians to start telling the truth. It's never going to happen.
had-enough: China is indeed a very corrupt country. Whenever we chastise them , they threaten not to buy our bonds. What do you expect from a country that kills every second child conceived!! ( and 3rd, 4th, ...) Run that one through your family tree and see where that would leave you
And yet, in spite of it all, Americans continue to purchase cheap, crappy Chinese products by the boatload. Plenty of "patriotic" American companies are profiting mightily from cheap Chinese labor as well.
Buy American products.
Chipper,
I try to buy American made products exclusively, but it is one in ten products that is actually made here. Sometimes there is no American made equivilent to purchase.
And think about cars. If you buy an "American made" automobile with over half the components made in China, Europe or Mexico is it REALLY an "American made" auto? When you have Japanese and European automobiles being made in America BY Americans, is it a foreign automobile or an American autombile?
It is all so convoluted, unlike the old days where "buy American - the job you save may be your own" actually meant something.

Earthquakes, earthquakes everywhere. California, you're next. We have had at least 10 quakes in the last 4 months that I have seen. Some of the smaller ones hit in Turkey and a couple of other places that I can't seem to recall at this moment. Ask me in an hour and I will know. lol. The world is definitely pissed off and is letting us know it. We need to figure out why she is angry and pacify her before even more people get hurt, but the world is kind of overpopulated anyway, so maybe it's her way of population control. Sad but true. Prayers are with all those that have been effected by quakes this year!
She??- and here, I always thought that Earth was an asexual satellite of the Sun made up of iron, oxygen, magnesium, silicon, nickel, calcium, sulfur and aluminum ... Guess that unaccounted part is made up of sex organs??
But ya- prayers and what not (what are those made up of?)............
BTW- who the heck personifies a planet? You're supposed to be on meds, right?
Never heard of Mother Earth?
O yea, Tooth Fairy too, but I'm more than six, now. Turns out neither are real people, or females. Don't worry, it's a shock you get used to.
And what of the common reference of "God" as a "HE" ?
Hmmm. More earthquakes? Perhaps they are just reporting them more because there is no other news, or "they" want to scare you all into blind submission.
That is a good tale as well, Maurice, I remember it from my youth! Never did understand the reason the authors chose to anthropomorphize their protagonist in such a limiting way.
If we could find a virgin to throw into a volcano that migt help.
If our survival in the U.S. depends on us sacrificing a virgin, were doomed. :)
LOL
It all depends on a virgin what! I suspect even my olive oil isn't virgin any longer.
@Kvothe- agreed, if only the fate of the world depended on us finding a unicorn!
I find it so interesting that only yesterday they had an earthquake of the same magnitude near Malaga, Spain, but it did not even make the news. I guess the Spanish are fiercly independent and don't want the world to drag out the crying towel.
It's so strange that the news picks and chooses what it wants to report. Is Spain not as important as China? To me, it's worth ten times what China is worth. But hey, what do I know?
Any deaths?
Plus China got hit by a big quake not too long ago and its been in the news a lot recently from the goggle scandal.
Geo............I have no idea. I received notification from USGS. The press did not mention one word.
Spain doesn't loan us money...
Yean, It's not the United States of Spain.
@Optomyst- It's where you go just before nap time! Sweet dreams!
There was a time, when an earthquake would hit in one area in the Pacific..and then roll into two other areas w/i weeks. Then the tremors stopped. Now, in the past few months, the tolerance of "mother earth" is becoming lean and mean.
We humans all over the world are guilty of pounding and beating on the lady. What can we expect if we beat on someone.....even if it is the ground..the air...the water and the sky...we are the cause of what we eventually suffer from in this world.
The ozone layer is destroyed. The wind carries the nuclear war particles, as does the ocean when the bombs are tested. We will continue to destroy the world as we "jack-hammer" it.
The countries that seem to take the "hits" are of areas where people live on mountain-sides...and islands...except for the horrible monster that killed so many Chinese people in 2008 in-land on the Asian continent. One day, it will not be so funny, if we experience such a horrendous sense of movement again in a city....here in America. The highways with cars and trucks filled with families...will not surivive as the vehicles slip downward on top of other vehicles...the buildings will crumble upon themselves taking the people inside down into the dust that evolves.
The first quake that I experienced as a kid...was in Yokohama....not being able to speak to anyone, I had to trust that it was okay to stand-in-place as the old hotel swayed. Again, in Okinawa small tremors would make the buildings dance slightly.
When, the tremor hit in SE Pennsylvania one year, the mere thought of an earthquake "there" was unheard of...but, for ten dollars, I purchased earthquake insurance. We cannot count on anything being the same as yesterday...as we face all of the tomorrows...we can pray...we can hope..but, we have t face the fact that the world and all in it...is changing...and we are probably the cause of all that we see that makes us so unhappy.
The mountains were created by earthquakes, in part.
You are so full of bulls**t. Get off the "people are to blame" wagon. This all natural and something that is happening due to nature. Humans do not have to power to cause earthquakes. Period. Read up on earthquakes and their causes ( scientific not the bible). If there are alot lately it is because plate tectonics is involved, the earth is shifting. At will always be doing this and there is nothing that can be done to stop it even if every human alive were to die off the earth will still shift.
1.2billion Chinese, minus couple hundred, 1.998,000,000. Oh well, who's keeping count.
most of them are Tibetans. you wanna bookkeep them?
Where did you go to school? Your math teacher should be taken to the town square and publicly humiliated.
Guess if it was you or your loved ones you would keep count. When it is somewhere else and not in your back yard I guess it just does not count. What an idiot.
We need a serious Global Pandemic to really do the planet some good.
not hard to imagine Dalai Lama's crowds are formed with clowns like kflan and such
Summer has not even begun yet. With all the rain we had I suspect that grasshoppers and mosquitos are going to spawn in masses. Grasshoppers may destroy much of our food crop and mosquitos may inject many animals including humans with lime disease. Add that to the earthquakes we're having and it could spell.....hmm, read the bible.
Ticks spread lymes disease not mosquitos. Mosquitos spread things like mylaria.
Doesn't the Bible tell you that??? LOL. And i thought it was everything.
ugghhh! Bible thumpers vs. science, I hope science wins.
Joy57111 - don't knock it till you've read it my friend. But I can understand your skepticism...and I respect your opinion. Plenty of so-called Christians out there are only hypocrites and give other Bible readers a bad name.
The Bible tells us EARTHQUAKES in one place after another would occur in "the last days". Don't say nobody told you. If you REALLY CARE, dust off the old Bible and read Luke 21 verses 10 and 11 and also Matthew 24 verse 7. This was written almost 2 thousand years ago and most people think it's too ancient to be relevant in our modern times, but... You can take it or leave it, but don't say I didn't tell you...
Bottom line: anyone who reads and believes the Bible is not surprised about all these destructive and devastating EARTHQUAKES. Whether people believe in the Bible or not, it was prophesied very long ago along with other specific things happening that are now happening worldwide (sees scriptures above). Also the general attitude of people in the world we live in today was described (see 2 Timothy 3: 1-5). Reads like a newspaper, check it.
blah, blah, blah. If you believe all that then rejoice!! According to your bible your about to meet your maker!!!
As for me I plan on living the rest of my life in pursuit of education, happiness of family and friends and not - repeat - not in fear of the end of the world.
The Down Lowe, I understand what you are trying to say. But earthquakes are earthquakes. Sure it says "in the last days" But many are already seeing it and talking about it. But the tremors of the biggest one of all, the one thats yet to come are being felt and for quite some time now. That's the one you need to prepare for. For these natural ones are well, self explanatory, in a way (re) 104 Also, 2 John 8-11
Joy, there is no hoping to it!
Science has always won in the end and it will continue to!
Let the bible thumpers and end timers hope, wish, and pray. That is all they can do and it is all they understand.
The article said this about the SiChuan earthquake 2 years ago:
I was IN SiChuan in May of 07 when that quake hit, and was there for 2 weeks after, in Chengdu (a city of 12 million or so just 50 miles from the epicenter) and what they are saying is BS in the first degree. The Chinese construction was AMAZING in that Chengdu took almost NO major structural damage! They have literally hundreds of buildings over 30 stories.
Nearer the epicenter, sure, buildings got totally destroyed in seconds. Let that same 8.0 earthquake happen that close to San Francisco (God forbid) and lets see what happens.
We need to stop shamelessly bashing the Chinese. Are they perfect, NO, but we deserve better reporting of the facts than this bias.
My typo, it was obviously 08.
There was a quake that close to SF in 1989. The big difference is that it only lasted 15 seconds. The duration can make all the difference in destruction.
Thanks Mr Karaoke for that "unbiased" observation. I guess the video associated with this story is just another example of western media doctoring the images in order to somehow make China look bad.
Just because the facts are that many of the rural and non-Han ethnic regions belie the official great "prosperity miracle " myth does not make accurate reporting "biased".
Of course. When the earthquake hit Guadalupe Victoria, Mexico on Easter Sunday, a lot of buildings were damaged, a few destroyed, but only two died. And it was a 6.9, I believe. Mud huts do not survive well in an earthquake. In Mexico, there were over a million people living close to the epicenter.
Maurice,
You really need to learn to read, my comment was to the characterization of the SiChuan earthquake, and what I said was accurate and true, pure and simple. The Tibetian Region is still quite backwards, as that area has not participated in the Chinese modernization to the same degree as the rest of China due to the remote nature of Tibet. The high-speed rail service from Chengdu was only opened within the last few years.
If you feel Tibet is backward, thank the feudalistic monk class and the Dali Lama - those were the folks running the area for decades.
I've actually been in the area for several years now and talked directly with several dozens of natives - have you?
And how prosperous was the Rural South here in the US as recently as the 1950s? Your need to bash China is sad.
In three months Michelle Obama can visit China unless her sorry husband goes over and bows before then.
She can go, she just can't bring a flag.
People are dying, all over the world in various disasters...and you talk about your President? China experienced an EARTHQUAKE and many (400+) people have died. Put that in your "pipe" and smoke that! You've got the "first family" on the brain.
All this wisdom and yet no one knows why!
Or if someone does know why, they aren't talking.
You would'nt believe it anyway.
tiredofthepress,
you misunderstand the difference between intelligence and wisdom.
humanity currently prides itself on intelligence, to the exclusion of wisdom. this is why we never learn.....
Jesus is also God The Father who raises the dead to new life, sometimes here but mostly the second life beyond the grave and rubble. Jesus gave few signals when He would return , some of which were earthquakes in various place. Time to take His claims to be God and Maker in the flesh seriously , Matthew 24 quite compelling. Not religion really, salvation - born again.
Read book of Matthew chapter 24 - but really must willingly seek Him and the truth - I finally came to Jesus realized I needed to admit my first natural thought were often immoral and sinful, and eventually saw the need by admitting the mind battle. No one is righteous, nothing is holy yet we were ntended to be creatures in Gods image and presence, Christ bring us back home is also called the Second Adam, we are in darkness(absence of light) spiritually until we come to God (Jesus the only way) the Light of the World
Oh brother....give me a break with Jesus already. The earth shifts and moves and caves in, that's what this planet has always done. It has nothing to do with Jesus and bringing his people home. Eventually, the earth will destroy itself and the sun will blow up. I am sad that people have lost their lives, even sadder for the ones who are buried and awaiting death. My heart goes out to all of them.
and what will you say when the quakes stop and the earth settles? That "God" made us listen? Of cource you will. Bible thumping over something that is natural. Take your head out of the church and into a library and read up on plate tectonics and the history of earth, and all the other sciences.
The rapture or climate change? Which is more plausible? Hmmmm. Hopefully most people have pulled their heads out of the sand:
"Scientists say melting glaciers could induce tectonic activity. The reason? As ice melts and waters runs off, tremendous amounts of weight are lifted off of Earth's crust. As the newly freed crust settles back to its original, pre-glacier shape, it can cause seismic plates to slip and stimulate volcanic activity according to research into prehistoric earthquakes and volcanic activity. This isn't politics or racial issues, good people. This is the future of the planet and our ability to survive upon its surface.
Ah Barabas...true wisdom!
All of us are God's creations and regardless of where we live we should be praying for the safety of all of us. As a Christian, I take no delight in the disasters that have stricken so many in this world and am most thankful that it has not happened here, as of now. However, the same type of cataclysm could happen here at any time. We muist do all that we can to help those who have suffered such disaster. Enough said!!
I prefer Bob. Bob from Accounting. Eventually he will lead us to salvation, in the meantime, we have to put up with the stench of those egg salad sandwiches he leaves in the breakroom refrigerator.
All praise and glory to Bob (from Accounting)!
That is a shame for the Chinese people. That 2008 quake was too large to believe they are fully recovered from that, and now this. I feel very sad for them.
What really is bringing on all of the earthquakes? Have we drained too much oil or is there a super-volcano on the verge to erupt, or what is the real problem? This is a worry.
Jungle George,
"I am so glad she is my mother and one day you and I will be returned to her bossom"
if you choose to return to her bossom[sic] it is your choice.
i, and many others, will return to our Father, who has foretold this and much more.
i pray you and others may wake up to the truth before it is too late.
jackel get off your pulpet. Stop thumping your bible.
joy57111,
lots of posts have people on their 'pulpit' regarding mother earth (the margarine lady?) nostradamus, mayans etc. but, I get singled out? by an idiot like you?
wow, you must be a joy to be around. moron.
LOL, showing your ignorance? I don't single people out, they single themselves out! LOL
joy,
"ugghhh! Bible thumpers vs. science, I hope science wins."
speaking of ignorance, you arent even sure of what you believe. congratulations, you have singled yourself out as the single most ignorant person posting on the vine. wow.
Why do you have a problem with people revering or even worshiping something that is greater than the sum total of humanity? Further, why is it wrong to worship something tangible? Unlike the mythology you believe in worshiping the Earth does not depend upon the unseen and unheard.
Your post was very Christian! Insulting and filled with ad hominem attacks, the usual content of fundamentalist closed minded Christians.
Why are you condemning the cultural and foundational beliefs of one of the most successful and long lasting groups people to ever inhabit the Earth? The Mayan civilization lasted for far longer than Christianity or Judaism has lasted.
Better to be uncertain and open minded than to be closed minded!
Your posts are making it obvious that differing beliefs and cultural tenets and norms make you uncomfortable and scare you.
hortis custodis,
i usually dont respond to posts such as yours, not involved in the conversation and yet interjecting where you see fit, but:
tiredofthepress,
you misunderstand the difference between intelligence and wisdom.
humanity currently prides itself on intelligence, to the exclusion of wisdom. this is why we never learn..... (post 19.3) there is truth in this statement.
(post 23.2) no attack here, just a response to a statement and a sincere prayer.
joy57111,
lots of posts have people on their 'pulpit' regarding mother earth (the margarine lady?) nostradamus, mayans etc. but, I get singled out? by an idiot like you?
wow, you must be a joy to be around. moron. (post 23.4) a response to someone singling out a Christian response, with no chiding of others for their beliefs. (so you can be aware, post 23.3 is where you should have asked your question) : Why do you have a problem with people revering or even worshiping something that is greater than the sum total of humanity? -- of course, if you responded to her statement, you wouldnt be able to bash the Christian belief, now could you?
joy,
"ugghhh! Bible thumpers vs. science, I hope science wins."
speaking of ignorance, you arent even sure of what you believe. congratulations, you have singled yourself out as the single most ignorant person posting on the vine. wow. (post 23.6) again, a response to someone who doesnt understand that they are intolerant of anothers' belief (significantly, only the Christian belief is attacked, as usual, not any other belief) and that is telling...
...Insulting and filled with ad hominem attacks, the usual content of fundamentalist closed minded Christians. show me an ad hominem attack, or my 'closemindedness'
Why are you condemning the cultural and foundational beliefs of one of the most successful and long lasting groups people to ever inhabit the Earth? The Mayan civilization lasted for far longer than Christianity or Judaism has lasted. show me where i condemned any belief? truth is, i have a great deal of respect for the mayan culture, and accomplishments they made, as well as other ancient civilizations. of course, you cannot tell that by one sentence i wrote, but that doesnt stop you from passing judgement on me, does it?
Your posts are making it obvious that differing beliefs and cultural tenets and norms make you uncomfortable and scare you. - since you and joy chose to respond to my posts alone, and not other posts sharing non-Christian beliefs, it is apparent that you both find the differing beliefs/cultural tenets or Christianity uncomfortable and scary. no other beliefs ellicit a response, why?
Oh, I was unaware that asking for permission to inject comments and opion was required. This is an open forum. Therefore, there are no restrictions upon where, when, or how often one may do so.
Your retort here to me is nonsensical. I am posting my observations, opinions, and thoughts about what others post. If you find my posts to be “bashing the Christian faith”, then so be it.
The bolded underlined larger text is part of what you posted. They are personal attacks and appeal only to emotions not to the logic of Joy’s posts. Hence, they are ad hominem attacks. Your post was close-minded in that it dismissed others beliefs.
You certainly did not show such in that post.
First, once again I did not realize that what, where, how often, how, to whom, on what subjects, ETC. ... were mandated nor that you had any say what so ever over my or anyone else's posting habits.
The above makes it clear that you are closed minded to others beliefs. Further, to offer Pascal’s Wager is no less than a condemnation of others and their beliefs. Your feigned indignation and then assertion of fear from those that disagree is nothing other than straw man arguments. Moreover, your patronization regarding the posting habits of others is contradictory to your first sentence.
i have never experienced an earthquake nor do i wish to - we have family in southern cal who have told us many a story. we have enough here w/blizzards and the recent torrential rainstorms. i have to say i believe the earth is fed up with all the "garbage" we inflict and it is letting us know in no uncertain terms.
There sure are alot of quakes. Clearly the earth plates are shifting and cause some sure of change reaction. Hopeful there is not a drastic realignment. But its definitely possible.
Yeah...scary thoughts.
Sort of like the earth is uncomfortable with the position it was in, so now it needs to reposition to get comfortable again and it is throwing the blankets.
Its all the fault (excuse the pun) of the increase in childhood obesity. the mass ofthe earth has been offset by fat kids.
Probably not relevant to most of you but shame on the reporter of this story....
as Tibet is NOT part of China !!! it is still an independent country - that China is attempting to take over [since the 50's]. Ask their leader - the Dalia Llama - if HE believes Tibet belongs to China...
who the heck is Dalia liama?
Kevin:
You know, The Dalai Lama himself? Twelfth son of the Lama? The flowing robes, the grace, bald... striking.
Big hitter, the Lama.
ah see - ignorance....is bliss...
if this Liama is the leader of Tibet, why isn't he doing anything to rescue his fellow Tibetans buried under the roofs. He is probably counting a huge tax return in his Park Ave mansion now ,which mansion is paid by our taxpayers' money.
Indeed, ignorance is bliss
Maybe, because he is an exiled leader, who is not allowed to travel to Tibet.
well, he could reincarnate into Tibet
or he can share some of his tax return or CIA pay with his beunconditionallyloved fellows.
for god's sake, please at least do or say something, it's the 3rd day already.
oh btw, let me remind you if he doesn't still promote race separatism in Tibet now, he wouldn't be in exile. How irony is that it's now the Han Chinese whom he wants to remove from Tibet - come to yushu and dig them from hell.
This lama does have influence in Tibet though. Still remember the 2008 Tibet violent unrest? It affected Yushu too. 20 were killed mostly Han Chinese.
