for the Love Of Money, sisters battling each other is So Sad/ Heart breaking..at their Age, do they realize how all those precious years together was greater than Money...
Gordon you are probably right, after the lawyer gets his cut there won't be much left for them to split. At 87 years old what does that woman need that much money for anyway? Greed is a terrible thing.
How sad. They should share the money. By the time the matter is settled in court, legal fees will have taken a big chunk out the money and if they will still be two bitter, selfish old women.
If the sisters both paid for the lottery ticket, then both should prosper from the win. However, if only one of the sister's bought the ticket, then the other sister is out of luck.
Verbal agreement or not, if you haven't paid anything towards the purchase of the ticket, you deserve nothing.
I just want to apologize to all the men and women of the United States Armed Forces.
I want to say sorry that they are overseas fighting and dying for people like the ones listed in this article, the people that are in Jerry Springer's fan club and on his show, and the people in our government that are too busy worrying about lining their own pockets than the people they are supposed to represent.
Won it in 2005. It is now 5 years later. Money doesn't last like it used to. Sad families break apart over material possessions. Senile old windbags. They need to cherish every moment they have together, for as most pointed out here, they probably do not have that much longer here on earth. They could both be having the time of their lives right now with endless Bingo nights with that money.
Reminds me of something that happened a few years ago. Some guy found something on some land. I forget if it was money or something, but it was worth a lot. Then the owner of the land found out about it. Instead of sharing it (it was on the landowners property), they went to court over it.
In the end, I think their lawyer fees cost them MORE than what they were fighting about. I wish I could find that article. You can't help but laugh.
If there was a written contract but the contract was not annulled after their falling out, then she must stand by the contract and give her her share of the money, as it is still in effect to all concerned.
Two women in the twilight of their lives fighting over some money. Sadly, they'll go to their graves penniless while their lawyers get to share the winnings in the form of lawyer fees.
the love of money is the root of evil. this verse is misquoted too much. God says to love him with all of our being and to love our neighbor as ourselves. obviously that is not being done in this case
Now first I respect the elderly, I really do. However I do understand a falling out. However $500.000's is alot of money. They could have agreed to split it 50/50 and been alright. This just simply goes to show, "GREED" is more important then their long term friendship. That's sad.
The greed discussed in this article is insignificant compared to the greed that caused the financial meltdown. Since Ronald Reagan, greed has become the national goal.
This was a story about a couple of old hags with a family financial dispute, Ron. It's a stupid dispute and wastes the financial resources of the public. You are a moron to bring Ronald Reagan into the discussion. Go back to huffpo and STFU.
Well, they are both getting exactly what they deserve. This is the kind of behavior you would expect out of children, not seniors in their 80's. I take that back, my 4 and 5 year old grandkids get along better than that, without any guidance.
That would be the logical thing to do. At least that way, they would get half. Now, because of hatred and greed, neither sister is going to get ANYTHING.
At their age and sisters..you think they share it, both have only a few years to live anyway.
Just goes to show that wisdom does not always come with age.
Shows how lottery winnings can destroy family relationships.
My sentiment exactly!
And whatta they gonna spend it on? Looks like attorney's fees. I'd give it to charity. They may not outlive a judge's decision.

What a waste of the courts time! They are that old and can't resolve a petty problem like this..
Really? Just split the money and be done with it. These two will pass away before they have a chance to enjoy the money.
Lady M #3,
Probably too late, the lawyer(s) will end up with the money. Nothing left to split then.
Gordon you are probably right, after the lawyer gets his cut there won't be much left for them to split. At 87 years old what does that woman need that much money for anyway? Greed is a terrible thing.
What a shame, by the time all is said and done, at their age, the stress will have killed them.
lady m you are so right because they are so old the might not enjoy it, so what the heck, anyway at there age they should act more grownup like.
This is a stupid battle. I'd be surprised if the winner had to give anything up.
How sad. They should share the money. By the time the matter is settled in court, legal fees will have taken a big chunk out the money and if they will still be two bitter, selfish old women.
Greedy people, what the heck they should share it they only have a few years to enjoy it anyway.
I want to know who came up with clothes, I mean come on I bet the world wold be less sexual without clothes!
Um. yeah. And we'd all freeze to death in the winter. great idea, marc.
I don't know. Without clothes I just feel naked.

Their brother also won in it...was it the same ticket?

I wonder what the over under on this battle is?
Is this a news so important to be published?
2 greedy old bags - the judge should say it is split down the middle and if you are not satisfied you get nothing

I bet there are other relatives pushing for this ---greedy for a cut in an inheritance.

Heck I hope the courts tell them to give to the grandkids or donate the money after they way they are fighting over it.

A lot of young fellows will be calling to cout them with their courting gear as Steve King would say.

After the lawyer's get finished with this case there won't be anything to split. Hope the sister holding the ticket is happy, may she rest in peace!

It's amazing how money turns people into greedy, selfish people. I would have just split it with her. Family is more important than money.
That would be the logical thing to do. At least that way, they would get half. Now, because of hatred and greed, neither sister is going to get ANYTHING.
There you go again, Slinger. Rationality has no place in this discussion. You should be ashamed of yourself.
