Gordon you are probably right, after the lawyer gets his cut there won't be much left for them to split. At 87 years old what does that woman need that much money for anyway? Greed is a terrible thing.

This is a stupid battle. I'd be surprised if the winner had to give anything up.

If the sisters both paid for the lottery ticket, then both should prosper from the win. However, if only one of the sister's bought the ticket, then the other sister is out of luck.
Verbal agreement or not, if you haven't paid anything towards the purchase of the ticket, you deserve nothing.
Their brother also won in it...was it the same ticket?

I want to say sorry that they are overseas fighting and dying for people like the ones listed in this article, the people that are in Jerry Springer's fan club and on his show, and the people in our government that are too busy worrying about lining their own pockets than the people they are supposed to represent.
Won it in 2005. It is now 5 years later. Money doesn't last like it used to. Sad families break apart over material possessions. Senile old windbags. They need to cherish every moment they have together, for as most pointed out here, they probably do not have that much longer here on earth. They could both be having the time of their lives right now with endless Bingo nights with that money.
Reminds me of something that happened a few years ago. Some guy found something on some land. I forget if it was money or something, but it was worth a lot. Then the owner of the land found out about it. Instead of sharing it (it was on the landowners property), they went to court over it.
In the end, I think their lawyer fees cost them MORE than what they were fighting about. I wish I could find that article. You can't help but laugh.

If there was a written contract but the contract was not annulled after their falling out, then she must stand by the contract and give her her share of the money, as it is still in effect to all concerned.

Two women in the twilight of their lives fighting over some money. Sadly, they'll go to their graves penniless while their lawyers get to share the winnings in the form of lawyer fees.
Heck I hope the courts tell them to give to the grandkids or donate the money after they way they are fighting over it.

Now first I respect the elderly, I really do. However I do understand a falling out. However $500.000's is alot of money. They could have agreed to split it 50/50 and been alright. This just simply goes to show, "GREED" is more important then their long term friendship.That's sad.

Well, they are both getting exactly what they deserve. This is the kind of behavior you would expect out of children, not seniors in their 80's. I take that back, my 4 and 5 year old grandkids get along better than that, without any guidance.
It's amazing how money turns people into greedy, selfish people. I would have just split it with her. Family is more important than money.
