I think that "boycotting WalMart for something they had nothing to do with is ridiculous!!

I will agree that what happened was unnecessary and extremely rude and something walmart will have to look into, but was wasting tax dollars by tying up 911 really necessary? Seems a bit ludicrous to me.

Perhaps they over-reacted....HOWEVER, if you're on the receiving end of racist and hateful remarks, in whatever form, it's a different story. And for certain groups of minorities, they've been on the receiving end for centuries. I'm not sure whether I would have reacted the same way, or threatened to sue, or anything else. But, neither do any of the rest of you unless it's happened to you. They don't have to get over it if they choose not to.....and whether you or I or anyone else thinks they should ain't none of our business.

It's not freedom of speech when you do not have the authority to do so. Whoever made the statement held no authority over who shopped at the store or not. If they wanted to stand in line and discuss with a friend their opinion, that is their right. It is not their to incite anger and to discriminate through a prank. That being said......it was dumb, not fault of Walmart, move on.
Bencas, I agree with you about this person who had no authority, and choosing the wrong place (and way) to express his own opinion. I'm sure it was uncomfortable for whites also who were shopping. I don'k think the cops should have been called or that people should boycott Wal-Mart. These types of acts are what cause the worst in America in spit their cruelties over the blogs (as we can see). We need to acknowledge this as unacceptable behavior for what is supposed to be a unified nation, and move towards bettering society by weeding out these hateful individuals. To all the whites out there who aren't racist, don't feel you owe anyone anything, it;s not your fault. To all the blacks out there, if you don't fit into society's stereotypes, allow your life's examples to speak for you, be slow to take offense over the lies of others. Blessings!

If these people are victims than what am I? Just about every commercial I see on TV or hear on the radio offends my sensibilities... armies of corporations bringing up my own death in an attempt to scare me into giving them my hard-earned money or trying to make me feel like a scumbag because I can't save a sick child's life. I feel so bad for the lonely people out there who take this crap to heart.

I got cut off due to some limit this has for editing, but my point is, did every single black exit the building as instructed? Did some stay behind to find out what is going on? I would ask the same if the loudspeaker demanded all (name your poison) to evacuate the premises. It could be race, religion, sex, etc. But in an experimental environment, I would wonder how that would have an impact in responses.
For example, if someone would have said, "all Muslims must leave the building at once". Mixed feelings should have taken over to ask why. Is it that we leave the building we are going to be ... or if we stay.....
I could go on with possibilities (all men must leave the store, etc.), but me being somewhat rational, would have considered any such request not only out of the ordinary, suspicious, but more reason to ask questions, and then leave as applicable or necessary.
The bottom line is this....there are no safeguards for some encounters in life. Some things happen at random, some with a guided purpose. Regardless, you must differentiate between the two as best as possible. If it was a prank, then yes, those things happen, for better or worse. If it was planned out in an elaborate scheme to bilk Wal-Mart, then everyone involved must pay a hefty fine and/or cell time. It seems clear that Wal-Mart was not the perpetrator.

Your experience in one part of the world cannot speak for all African Americans. This is the mentality that spreads prejudice amongst those who've only been exposed to black culture in the inner city, BET or MTV rap videos! I know more blacks who despise media's "interpritation" of black culture than those who enjoy their "representation" by showing ignorance. The blacks I know do not exemplify the 'Poor Black" attitude, so please, enough already from you and others who think like you.
MsQ....the same can be said about whites; not all of us are racist and go around perpetuating stereotypes about minorities. There are good black and white people just as there are bad black and white people. I make no judgements about a person's character unless they open their mouth and prove me wrong. As long as we continue to make assumptions based on color no progress will be made.
I am an ex Wal-mart employee, this stuff happens all the time. Kids would get on the phone and say stupid things. You cannot lock up the phones due to the fact emergencies happen in the store or another associate has to get a hold of another employee to look up an item. Wal-mart is a huge store. Things like this is awful, but if these women heard this on the street they would just shake their heads and go on, yeah it is stupid and plain ignorant, but I have heard worse.
