It is sad that our nation’s people, and it's government, is more focused on pointing fingers and blaming the two party systems with half truths rather than dealing with the reality of history. This especially rings true when the Bush administration was the original architect of the hundreds of billions of dollars needed to bail out the unethical practices of our banking industry and Wall Street. Oh, and let's not also forget what happened after Hurricane Katrina and how our own American citizens were left to fend for themselves simply due to their socioeconomic condition or the color of their skin. Unfortunately, for the Katrina victims their prayers went unanswered, and in a sense we all failed the test not only as Republicans and Democrats but also as humans and Americans.
Your remark about Katrina is BS! The worse hit areas were not covered by the liberal news media because whites lived there. Areas that were totally whiped from the face of the earth. News helicopters easily found their way to New Orleans where people refused to leave then looted the city at our expense. Don't blame Bush for this crap. It was the result of the Democrats who ran the state and the city and did nothing to prepare for what was about to happen.
....and...if my memory serves me correctly....wasn't it a black mayor of New Orleans....who was a DEMOCRAT....that also called it "a chocolate city"...who was running the show down there?
I am sorry the the Haitian people and the destruction that has happened there, but why should we spend our hard earned taxed to death dollars to help them? Where was the rest of the world when we needed aid when Katrina stuck? No where! We need to stop trying to be the worlds savior and save ourselves. We are so far in debt now that end of the tunnel is many years away. Yes I'm all about helping the American people. Screw the rest of the world and lets look out for number 1 for a change.
What heartless, compassionless, cold remarks. People are suffering in Haiti right now and they need all help the help they can get; other nations are helping & we need to too. You want to politize this? Here's one to chew on; Bush sold the "operation Iraqi freedom" (bs), to liberate Iraq from Saddam & republiucans on this board spout that in defence of the war for years...why then, shouldn't then liberate people who are suffering more from an earthquake?
So why dont we sit this one out, and maybe just maybe focus on US for a while? Let some of the other nations handle this? I hear Saudi has lots of money. China should be able to handle this one. We need to keep the resources here and focus on Americans. How many Americans are living in "Tent Cities"? They lost their homes, and most lost their way to provide the basics of life. Where is the quick action on that? The USA is not responsible for every nation that is in trouble. We NEED to take care of OUR OWN. Let the world that does not like us, and blames us for everything that goes wrong deal with this. WE THE PEOPLE need Protection.
And on Katrina; President Obama acted faster & more compassionately for Haitians than Bush did for his own people suffering in the wake of Katrina. FACT. Debate if you will but I remember.
You can politicize all you want but you CAN'T change historical facts.
TXman, people in tent city America today are doing better than the average Hatian within the past few years. Question, have you donated to homeless Americans recently?
Ya I'm sure China and Saudi Arabia will be able to have a quick response time to save all of those trapped. NOT! We are right next door yanno. This is one of only a few instances where I agree with Obama. Get those people help now!
If he really wants to help them send all the illegal ones living here back to help. He needs to learn the words " we feel bad for you but this is not our problem" that way he will not screw us up any more than he is already. He is probably looking at this as furure voters for his next election.
I don't give a damn how these people came about or whether they love or hate us, I just know this is their time of need and we have to help if allowed.
When Iran had a big one a few years back we still offered our help, they refused, but we were ready to help nevertheless.
It is one thing to get on Newsvine and rant about the evils of the world and quite another to do something about it. All those that are truly concerned can help by donating to a reputable relief agency. I know you can give up those lattes and DVD rentals for one week, as I intend to do.
SH-2000 yes I have donated, both time, goods, and money. I have seen the starving kids, the families with nothing. I have seen the death of the elderly in these cities.
And if you are keep tabs, and taking notes I also donate to the united way, salvation army, the local food bank, oh and I donate blood.
On a side note, I dont remember seeing many tents in Haiti, but what I did see where shacks and building. Maybe we should send them all of our tents. We can then setup tent cities there, since the people living in the tent cities have it so much better than they do.
Someone with the relevant first-hand experience correct me if I'm wrong, but we're sending a hospital ship that will take days to get ready and on-site rather than a carrier? Wouldn't a carrier be there within 48 hrs and have more capability to help with transportation, fresh water, medical facilities, etc?
The horiffic pain, casualties, despair, death, thirst, suffering, loss in this poor counrty is sobering, ....but apparently not to the cold, unfeeling miserable bloggers who don't want their wallets pinched for a single dollar.
Shame on you...there but for a quirk in nature, YOUR home, family, town, loved ones could be decimated in an instant.
Your "double standards" are sickening.
I'm ashamed that you call yourselves Americans. The "can" is for HELP, not just war.
It would be a wonderful day to vote both parties out of washington. Put normal everyday working class people there. term limits, no special treatment, make them pay for health care like most working class do. Make them pay SS and FICA. Get back to the basics that this country was started on. I know it was a long time ago, but the system worked.
El— Whapo- Natural disasters do not discriminate, they simply affect people in whatever geographical location that the disaster occurs. The biggest problem with Katrina was that many of the people who were trapped in the Lower 9th Ward and in other areas, could not afford to leave even with a free bus ticket because they couldn’t even pay for food and lodging in another town. This is a twofold problem, one is the socioeconomic aspect of the problem and race is the other. The socioeconomic problems that some Americans face can severely limit that person’s ability to find better work (due to a lack of higher education which then affects your ability to get a better job, or the availability of jobs in the only area they can afford to live etc.). To answer your remark about looting, imagine yourself going over a week without food or water, I guarantee you that you would attain the necessities to survive even if it meant that you had to loot a store to do it. History shows that Bush just happened to be the President of the United States at the time, so that means as president he is responsible to protect the American people as a whole because that is his job! In all fairness our government (Republicans, Democrats and whatever other party that was involved at the time of the disaster) failed the people of New Orleans and America… no matter what the color of their skin was.
SH-2000 - Do you want to spread some blame? Ray Naggin called for an evacutation of New Orleans TWO DAYS after Kathleen Blanco declared a state of emergency for Louisiana. Amtrak actually had an EMPTY train that left New Orleans. They offered to evacuate the city. THE CITY REFUSED! Kathleen Blanco completely forgot how polluted the flood water would be.
Those are ALSO historical facts!
I actually agree with helping Haiti, but DON'T COMPARE THE TWO. The buses that could have been used to evacuate New Orleans DAYS EARLIER are probably still parked there. Do you expect President Obama to land his plane in Haiti today? Those were the expectations of Bush after Katrina.
This type of devistation has happened here. People's homes were decimated in an instant. Hurricanes, tornados, earth quakes, wild fires. Just to name a few. Rita, katrina, Ike. I honestly dont believe that the posts here are heartless or double standard.
The feds will send a billion or more in aid, in the form of medicine food and water. That money will actually go to U.S. farmers and distributors. Pray for Haitians, especially the children, they aren't responsible for their plight
A sad event, here we go again saving others while we have desperate people here..do they realize, people here are in despair also ??..meaning; homeless, no work, without basic needs etc..this is Insane and Wrong, Charity does start at home, read the book..trying to save the World , plus Control the World and eradication just does not make any sense to me....
SH-2000 - GB stands for the city I live in. LOL. Funny, I never thought of that.
I am certainly no Bush fan. I was against the war in Iraq. That doen't make it OK for Obama to MAKE THINGS WORSE. I don't care what you say, IT IS OK FOR ME TO BE AGAINST BOTH POLICIES BY BUSH AND OBAMA!
I am actually in FAVOR of providing help to Haiti. Please make sure that you read my entire post next time!
The article is about the devastation of a country and a people a couple of hundred miles from us and all of the comments are about our own petty political squabbles. If you want to know what is wrong with our country, read the posts back and forth above.
Same Obamanure he spouted about Amerians that lost their jobs and homes. Maybe another 20 or 30 billion to the Royal Bank of Scotland will do the trick.
Absolutely amazing. You people are not even human. A devastating natural disaster with thousands affected, and all you idiots can do is rant about dems vs. reps. I can picture a bunch of Jabbas sitting at thier pcs drooling on thier keyboards. Seeya, Newsvine, you have shown me the ugly, most depraved side of the human race.
The headline alone makes it easy to see why the world thinks we're so evil. What I don't get is why its always the U.S. that has to jump first, then other countries follow suit, with meager intent compared to us. Yes, its quite evident why the world hates America. However, this will be another feather in Organizers cap won't it. He's so wonderful I could just p*ss myself
Dear SH2000 and Salem 1692, where the he!! are we supposed to get the kind of money that Mr. spendhappy, oh I mean Prez Obama is promising? My heart and prayers go out to these unfortunate people and their families, but my God, we just don't have the money!!! When are you people going to get it, when are you going to admit it, President Obama has and is continuing to financially ruin us and is working on ruining our future generations? When is he going to stop???
Please help us?! We need the help of our elected officials, do the job you were elected to do, Stop the useless spending, and mend us, let us heal!
I am sure all those bankers who got those fat bonuses will gladly donate them to help Haiti...right? (We got the money, and these are the ones who got it.)
At this point Martian Tripods could be landing and incenerating people and alot of the folks here would be arguing if ithis were the fault of the Republicans or Democrats.
I feel bad for the people of Haiti, but we are not the worlds savor, no one comes to our rescue, we have people living in the streets here and our government has taxed the middle class in to third world status.
Charity starts at home when every one here is fed and housed we can be charitable to the world
It really says a great deal about the extreme right when you collapse a statement like this. truth hurts. i wouldn't look at myself in the mirror if i were you either.
It is sad that our nation’s people, and it's government, is more focused on pointing fingers and blaming the two party systems with half truths rather than dealing with the reality of history. I'm with all of you who have said your heart goes out the Haitian people, but we don't have anymore money to give. I bet most of you , if not all, don't know that shortly after "the great pretender" took office he promised $20 million in taxpayer dollars to immigrate Hamas refugees to the USA. This never even made it into the news.
Doubtful? To verify this for yourself click on this link: www.thefederalregister.com/d.p/2009-02-04-E9-2488
"The great pretender" is spending our children and grand-childrens tax dollars at a devastatingly rate. The really sad thing is I think we are all powerless to stop it. He does things like this under 'presidential executive orders'. I thought this guy promised 'transparency' in his administration. For a relatively inexperienced politician, he sure lies like a pro. Anybody know of a small Pacific island for sale? I know when I'm fighting a loosing battle.
I posted about 12 times to FOX news and they censored every single one of my comments. They might as well be Communist China. They only report Republican-leaning comments. Be proud to be a Democrat, a Liberal, an Independent, a Progressive or a Pragmatist. Don't let the cave men from Faux News denigrate you. They are what is wrong with America. We are what is good.
you should of refused your stimulus money. like you've got so much money you have a right to complain with what the government does with a teeny faction of your contribution.
WTF is wrong with most of you people? This is an enormous disaster and all you can rant about is republican this and democrat that! I, for one, think that the world coming together to assist these people in this humanitarian crisis gives us all hope for global peace! Just think, if the Islamic extremists would all fall off the face of the Earth there would be no wars right now! NO WARS!! Just imagine what the population of Earth could accomplish if we could spend the money we wage war with on clean energy and clean water and saving the environment, WOW what a concept, huh?
Okay, I don't care if you are Democrat, Republican, Independent or Snoopy. Facts are facts, The Bush Administration ended with Federal National Debt of 472 Billion (est. 70% was military spending); from 01/20/2009 to 01/13/2010; our current national debt is now 12+ Trillion and climbing, with more projected Presidental billions in spending. This is not prior administration spending or any other "Pass the Buck" excuse you wish to come up with. This is the current Administration spending unchecked into future generations. Plain and Simple! So keep your "You just don't like him because he is black" excuse to cover the stupidity of this current administration.
What we have here is unchecked gross spending; increased unemployment; still high foreclosure percentages; more government control in a potential health care bill that small business and seniors will have to cover and empty promises from a politically naive President. He may have been fine as a 1st term Senator, and volunteer; but as a President he leaves a heck of a lot to be desired. To give credit where credit is due; he is a marvelous speech maker and a eloquent looking statesman. However, there is more to running this country than looking good and making pretty promises.
I hope you realize the "Change to Believe In" is destroying the democracy and personal liberties of this nation. Let's hope next time you enter the voting booth, you will actually choose a candidate with the qualifications and experience to know what their doing in the White House! Isn't it time some of you Obama supporters take a good look at the current decline of our nation and admit you made a HUGE MISTAKE. The only upside to this whole Presidential fiasco is hopefully history will repeat itself. It took a Jimmy Carter to give us a Ronald Reagan. Hopefully in 2012, an incompetent Barack Obama will afford this nation the same. Let's hope we can all hold out until then........
Bottom line..... if your neighbors house is on fire you don't argue over the price of your hose. Haitti is on fire and we can put the fire out why would we not help when we can?
I feel really bad for the Haitians. They are getting a bad deal all around.
They have inherited the stupidity of their forefathers, who revolted, chased out the slave owners who fed and took care of them, and they were left with no capital to work with, no leadership to guide them and nothing to use for trade for what they needed. Then, some greedy family of -dare I say it- fellow Blacks, really buried them. Remember Papa and Baby Doc?
They really got it rough there. HIV is running rampant, corruption runs everything, and nobody has the chance to make anything of themselves. Guess it goes to show that when you haven't got anything upstairs, you make the wrong decisions and ruin the lives of your peers and generations to follow.
so i assume your prescription for our dilemma is another Ronald Reagan and i see you choose to forget the REASON for all this spending under Obama (what Bush left him with). you also choose to forget that Bush was really little more than a bad Reagan.
To HELL with the Katrina and Bush thing.....move on and get a real life. What this is about is the QUICK response to help others and the SLOW response to help our OUR COUNTRY and ourselves. Only if history could tell us what other countries and places did before rapid transit, quick news and the frickin' dreadful INTERNET.
Funny how we had a surplus in the budget under Clinton and MASSIVE DEBT under Bu$h and us Dems are at fault? Go figure. Now about Haiti were are the USNS Comfort and USNS Mercy?
i totaly agree withg smith. we have our own problems here in the united states. watch and see how much we give them in aid as far as money. it will be interesting where this money comes from!!!! why dont i or anyone get a bailout. sounds selfish but we have millions our selfs here in the u.s out of work give them money first. then MAYBE GIVE SOME to other countrys that need it. we have been for years sticking our nose where it dont belong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! where were some of these other countrys when we needed moneyfor the bank bailouts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! perhaps we should stay out of other countrys problems and take care of our own!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am all for saving tax dollars and not wasting money, but Haiti REALLY NEEDS OUR HELP. I am actually with Obama on this subject (read my other posts, this doesn't happen very often.) In this case, I do not think that the money will be wasted.
My thoughts and prayers are with the people of Haiti in their time of great despair.
SH everything you have posted is inaccurate. America needs to sit this one out. We have no money. You are telling all the American unborn babies that they have to commit to a life time of servitude to pay for the corruption of DNC liberal wacko Progressives.
We are broke. Our people are out of jobs. The corrupt government is taking over businesses/corporations/banks. Add ineptness to corruption and America's days of running to the rescue has ended. Let the countries that have been given all our jobs by the unions. Another thought is, why not let the people help themselves.
You do not learn to be self sufficient with progressives standing in the way telling you that you are incapable of being self sufficient and it is always somebody else's fault you are poor and uneducated and have problems (that all humans deal with) that you can not solve.
How dare this Administration dither on the war and then grandstand all the while blaming the White Administration before him. You progressive communists are such hypocrits and you are pathetic. The poor people you use to secure wealth for yourself are better people than you.
"white administration" I get it. Bush was president of "real Americans" i.e white americans and Obama is the president of "black Americans", i.e. not real americans. Your comment is racist. If it wasn't for my strict compliance with the COH, I would tell you what you are.

Wow! You must have to go see your chiropractor after this post. I don't think I've ever seen someone twist so much. You remind me of Noam Chomsky, the linguist. "It's not what he said it's how I perceived it." Reminds me of Reids comment in regards to President Obama's campaign and the Democrats/Left Wing Liberal Wack Jobs that defended it. Nah, that ain't racist. Same thing when someone in the media comments on a black football, baseball, basketball player being "articulate". Does that mean he doesn't talk with a negro dialect? You my friend are the one that is racist.
You got the one right! Way to go Obama give those idiots who cannot even figure things out and could care less when we have a a huge problem here our Gov't leaves our people out in the cold but we sure know how to put a good show on else where! Total waste of time and most of all our TAX DOLLARS! But that's OK dude just give it to them you guy's print $$$ without any backing to it anymore so what a perfect place to waste dead paper!
Sven: If Ginger was not making a racist comment by referring to the White Administration, please explain what she meant by that. Her comment was most likely collapsed because it was racist. Also, how would Paddy be racist by simply calling Ginger out for her comment.
Agreed, keep America's money in America. Where does Obama expect to find a "massive" amount of military anything anyway? What little we have left should be guarding our shores, not going to Haiti.
Sven: Methinks the that community that collapsed Ginger's ignorant comment agrees with me. I twisted nothing. There is no possible explanation for her reference to the white administration other than the skin color of the head of that administration. For every liberal who cries racism when there is none, there are a hundred conservatives who never see racism, even when it is obvious. And no, Reid's comments were not racist in the sense that they were reflective of a belief on his part that blacks are inferior to whites. Lott's wish that segregation had prevailed in 1948 was racist in that it expressed the belief that the country would have been better off had the policy of segregation of the races and the implied suppression of the rights of Black Americans prevailed in 1948 was racist. Only the willfully ignorant would argue that the comments were remotely similar.
And on all our currency we read the following...In God We Trust. Now is the time to change this from a noun to a verb. Lets just do what God expects and trust Him to supply all that is needed.
Maybe the Taliban can send over some of their highly sophisticated technology to help.
Here's the scoop geniuses ... It takes money to make money. There is going to be allot of cleaning up to do for years in Hatti. This is going to require the use of Caterpillars and other various contractors. ...hmmm, where do you think the Hatti government will spend its money in the future. For that matter, other Caribbean countries.
Oh by the way - Ginger and Svenolafson - This is 2010 - the 50's were 60 years ago (colored people and ...gasp...even women are allowed to vote) They even vote for the previous "White administration."
No doubt what has happened in Haiti is devastating and we should send aid like the other countries in the UN are providing - rescue teams, water, medical teams. However, my questions are: Why are we the only country providing military support? Aren't our active duty troops already spread too thin with wars in Iraq and Afghanistan? It is one thing for our military to serve as the world police but now we are humanitarian aid and disaster clean up for the world too?! Maybe we should reinstitute the draft or require every U.S. citizen to serve a mandatory 2 year hitch in the armed services. Maybe then the bleeding hearts would have a better understanding and appreciation for the price our servicemembers and the families they leave behind pay for missions that are unecessary or unrelated to our national security.
Please help me Obama my house is being taken away from me. Why are you taking American tax money and giving it to them? I have two kids and a wife who want a roof, and we have paid into our government to insure the protection of America and its citizens (permanent residents). And when that is done we can help out around the world as we have always done. It is a different time now, keep every Penney in America until we are out of our mess. If America goes down it will take everyone with them any way. It is harsh but THE WELL HAS GONE DRY!
"Lott's wish that segregation had prevailed in 1948 was racist in that it expressed the belief that the country would have been better off had the policy of segregation of the races and the implied suppression of the rights of Black Americans prevailed in 1948 was racist.">>>And only the willfully left-of- left could possibly see all this in Lott's statement that "Who knows what would have happened had you been elected President, Strom?" One of your own "people" -- Robert Byrd -- was champion dragon or whatever they call them of the KKK. You have no room to talk or to throw stones.
What are you talking about? My son served 15 months in Iraq, more than one purple heart, his skills put him in missions 90% of the time he was there. He deployed less than one year after my 21yr old daughter died. I think I have more than enough creds to have an opinion on what we do with our military (do you?) and how families have to deal with it. I care about all humanity, and the devastation in Haiti deserves as much help as we can give. What is it with all of the money worship from the party of the "moral minority"? Who are you people and who took your humanity?
I was going to write a silly post hoping bad things for anyone making a profit from this misery. But having glanced at all of you attempting to make political hay or attempting to lecture your erstwhile political opponents, while human beings, God's children, just as are you are dying like rats down there is enough to turn one's stomach. Don't you people have any heart at all?
How dare you reprint my post after collapsing it and take it out of context. It does show my comments were not racists though. I hate Communism and Godless Communists and what they do thier people. I abhor Mao also. I am wholeheartedly unapologetic for hating communism, despots and the like. I was showing the hypocritical train of thought that allows one administration to do something while castigating a previous administration for it, then pointed out that the previous administration was White. That is a fact.
Then Tyler, I find you/newsvine printing partial bits of my post you took out and misleding posters. The only Code of misConduct I actually see was you. Why don't you print it all.
I believe the dog and pony show in Wa. DC is pathetic.
I also feel for the people of Haiti, however: we are broke. Where is the money going to come from this time? Maybe wall street can bail them out. I would like to keep an open mind so if anyone out there can show me some facts on who has helped us after our disasters, it would help.
Hello. when Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans there were tremendous offers or support monetary and otherwise from hundreds of countries around the world (includung Iran and Iraq). Ya boy G. Bush turned most of it down because he said "we (Americans) can look after ourselves" You idiot. Just like we have been "looking after ourselves" duering the 8 years of his screwed up administration. I should not have to go and do research for you to show you facts. Look it up for yourself so that YOU will know and not what anyone else told you.
I say please help those people because times are rough here but when you live off of a GNP of $560/year, yes help is needed. Selfish b*****

I'd love to see your source on this. And how did no name show up above your post? So when it happened, you guys said Bush was "begging" 3rd world countries for aid. Now the story is he refused it because he was arrogant. You can't have it both ways.
Funny how the democraticunderground site had exactly the opposite viewpoint when it happened though. Another flip-flop viewpoint using hind-sight I guess.
U.S.President George Bush may have gone down in the American poll ratings because of his administrations lackadaisical approach and ineptitude in dealing with the disaster caused by Hurricane Katrina in the Gulf States, but what has appalled most people, is Washington's decision to approach Third World countries for aid.
According to a poll carried out by the Daily Mail, the world's richest nation's inability to cope with the disaster and its decision to take aid from countries like Sri Lanka, Cuba and other lesser developed countries is being seen as humiliating.
...
Even Iran, of Axis of Evil fame, has offered humanitarian aid. Romania, not yet a member of the EU, is also sending two teams of medical experts. Tsunami-battered Sri Lanka and Thailand have been generous in coming forward with donations despite struggling to feed and house their own people.
...
"I will deeply resent it if this Bush government accepts aid from any country... I deeply appreciate the gestures of all countries involved," one poll participant was quoted, as saying. (ANI)
No baby get your facts straight.....Bush did turn down money several times before excepting some money (which I don't know where it went..ohh maybe the war effort) And I don't have to post a particular website for you to go to because I get my fact from books and factual resources. Myabe you should do the same.
The United States declined 54 of 77 recorded aid offers from three of its staunchest allies: Canada, Britain and Israel, according to a 40-page State Department table of the offers that had been received as of January 2006.
Administration officials acknowledged in February 2006 that they were ill prepared to coordinate and distribute foreign aid and that only about half the $126 million received had been put to use. Now, 20 months after Katrina, newly released documents and interviews make clear the magnitude of the troubles.
More than 10,000 pages of cables, telegraphs and e-mails from U.S. diplomats around the globe -- released piecemeal since last fall under the Freedom of Information Act -- provide a fuller account of problems that, at times, mystified generous allies and left U.S. representatives at a loss for an explanation. The documents were obtained by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, a public interest group, which provided them to The Washington Post.
In one exchange, State Department officials anguished over whether to tell Italy that its shipments of medicine, gauze and other medical supplies spoiled in the elements for weeks after Katrina's landfall on Aug. 29, 2005, and were destroyed. "Tell them we blew it," one disgusted official wrote. But she hedged: "The flip side is just to dispose of it and not come clean. I could be persuaded."
In another instance, the Department of Homeland Security accepted an offer from Greece on Sept. 3, 2005, to dispatch two cruise ships that could be used free as hotels or hospitals for displaced residents. The deal was rescinded Sept. 15 after it became clear a ship would not arrive before Oct. 10. The U.S. eventually paid $249 million to use Carnival Cruise Lines vessels.
We as a nation need to help our homeless unemployed and down and out laid off americans, do you think george washington or thomas jefferson would have said load our ships with the supplies we need and send them to another country hell no. Help americans first obama then worry about the rest of the freking world yes its cold but hey we have people living under the bridge here. I feel for the people in destress but look around this county we need the money. for those of you that want to help these people go ahead its a free country use your money not us tax dollars.
Ginger, you are just a negative person. I have read your posts and you have nothing positive to say. New Orleans was a great city. I was born and raised there. It was a devasting tragedy for most of my family and friends when Katrina hit. They needed help and didn't get it in time from our own government!
One of my cousins was on a roof for 3 days. Another one had to be airlifted to safety, he was 16 years old! My older brother and his wife walked with 3 children to a neighboring town. It took a whole day! I couldn't find any family members for at least 5 days. My mom and I cried everyday. I searched everyday until I finally found a cousin in a shelter who had seen my other brother and told me that he and his family were alive. Don't say sh!t about what would have happened in New Orleans. We know what didn't happen and it wasn't right!!!!!
I have no idea what you are talking about. I am not negative. I am quite positive. I am may not tow the party line, and the party line towers despise that.
My above post should have not have been collapsed. It was because you party line towers had no response or debate you could present against the opinion offered. So you do what you do best. Censorship and silence. If you could not bully me into towing the party line you shut me up.
I agree with the majority of posters here, there were horrendous fraud in Katrina, the flood waters came in as the leaders had their heads in the clouds and did not take care of business. We all have adversity, that is called life. N.O. is a sink hole and just waiting to be devastated. The abuse of funds for Katrina is a well known fact. The southern people I know continuously told of the donation/fed and state fund abuse going on down there.
If my family were unfortunate enough to live down there they would have been in the midst of it and I would have done all things in my power to save them. I did donate money.
News organizations are now warning that Haiti tragedy scammers are not starting up. Beware!
Georgia Peach: "No baby get your facts straight.....Bush did turn down money several times before excepting some money (which I don't know where it went..ohh maybe the war effort) And I don't have to post a particular website for you to go to because I get my fact from books and factual resources. Myabe you should do the same.">>>
Georgia I don't know how on earth you got your "fact" from books when you can't even spell. You meant "accepting" not "excepting"....I think. And "maybe" instead of "Myabe." You should go back to school.
"Ginger, you are just a negative person. I have read your posts and you have nothing positive to say. New Orleans was a great city. I was born and raised there. It was a devasting tragedy for most of my family and friends when Katrina hit. They needed help and didn't get it in time from our own government!"
I was living in Biloxi, where the hurricane's east end hit wiping out everything. We had 8 feet of water in our house and lost everything. But we had sense enough to be watching it from far away. Had New Orleans' residents got out when they were told to, there would have been far fewer people on rooftops yelling for the "gubment" to come help them. There would have been far fewer hoodlums running in the flooded streets carrying plasma tvs over their head that they couldn't even plug in anywhere. Your Mayor failed you, not the feds. Help was offered three days before Katrina help, but Landreau turned it down. Naggins turned it down. After Katrina there was precious little anyone could do for you due to the flooding.
get over yourselves all of you including tyler from newsvine. This country does not have the money -- it quite clearly shows in our own towns. Our people are starving and living in the streets and all we do is ignore it -- because we are America the home of the free and the brave. Let's get over ourselves on this one -- we are not always brave. We all need help, however at this moment there is and has been no one helping America. All of you on this vine need to face and accept the fact that it doesn't matter if someone is calling you a communist or a no-good feel-body we have had disasters happen in this country and they have been for the most part by and large handled very, very poorly. And, yes they happen. When are you all going to accept the fact that they happen in this country as well? When you do, we can be a more accepting nation and people, and then begin to truly help all others in a time of need when needed. BUT you must first accept the cold hard facts that it happens here in the USofA as well.
Who the hell are you incredibly cold, heartless, money worshipping people? I am just wondering how many of you think of yourselves as good, church going, moral people? I really want to know.
...would have guessed that an ignorant neo-con would blame this on Obama and the Dems....they obviously have NO SHAME whatsoever....shame on you, Ray....
Hopefully, the global community will help Haiti and just America...Furthermore, I am not judging, but Haiti needs to make some changes Educationally, Economically, Politcally and Religiously.

....let me see?...hmmm?....in some instances...maybe....just maybe....it helps instill proper moral values....leading to traditional families being formed...and maintained....and THAT....in many cases....has led to thriving and progressing civilizations.
....let me see?...hmmm?....in some instances...maybe....just maybe....it helps instill proper moral values....leading to traditional families being formed...and maintained....and THAT....in many cases....has led to thriving and progressing civilizations.
What!!? If that was the case that Nature is punishing Haiti due to improper "moral values" the US would have sunk in the sea long ago. Ignorance....when will it end?
....the Hatian population is one of the hot spots for AIDS / HIV. There are numerous orphanages / missions there to take care of children that have had one or both parents die from the aforementioned disease. If you're staying home at night (or day)...and not sticking it where it doesn't belong...then perhaps there wouldn't be so many orphans.
....the media is using the photo opps of the destroyed orphans in all their reports to play up the "oh those poor children" angle. Of course that don't feel compelled to say WHY there are all these orphaned kids.
....let me see?...hmmm?....in some instances...maybe....just maybe....it helps instill proper moral values....leading to traditional families being formed...and maintained....and THAT....in many cases....has led to thriving and progressing civilizations.
Funny you should say that, because the posts who are more upset about the MONEY are the conservatives, who like to harp about their moral superiority. So you think God would prefer to leave millions of people in dire straights because one of the wealthiest countries on earth has red ink? Do you think that is a moral position? You disagree with the Bible that how we treat our fellow humanity matters? Or is it only if you don't have to sacrifice financially? I really want to know how you heartless people justify your propensity to care more about money over people.
Another country to support with our tax dollars. Did anyone give Louisiana help after Katrina. I hear they're still trying to rebuild. What about us Obama?
You can blame Bush for Katrina... Bush didn't even know the devastation that happened there, he wasn't watching tv - I believe that was his excuse that time.
Maybe you should get some facts about Katrina. New Orleans and Louisana were warned about Katrina for about three days before it hit. Bush offered aid to New Orleans and Louisiana and was told that they didn't need help from the government because the State would be able to ride it out because they thought that it wouldn't be as bad as the weather service said it would. Well, the rest is history. Of course, the state of louisiana and the city of N.O. blamed washington for the destruction and the failure to send aid when, in fact the state told the government not to come. Plus the damage was made worse when both state and federal government cut back monies that were earmarked for the maintainence of the levees and so that wasn't taken care of. As to Haiti. A disaster that is real and no government can be blamed for that. Haiti is poor. they don't have a real government and little to nothing else. They will need help from everyone. Unfortunately, our government is not among the first responder. I'm surprised that omanless took less than three days to do anything about it. He is incompetent in this as well as everything else.
Bush offered aid to New Orleans and Louisiana and was told that they didn't need help from the government because the State would be able to ride it out because they thought that it wouldn't be as bad as the weather service said it would.
So what was Bushes response when the storm hit & people drowned in their homes & died on their roof tops? Nothing.
Yeah, your spin cannot change historical FACTS; President Obama acted faster to bring aid to the people of Haiti than Bush did for Americans after Katrina.
We remember.
On Monday, when the hurricane hit, President Bush flew to Arizona and California to discuss Medicare. On Tuesday, the day the levee broke, Bush flew to San Diego to speak to World War II veterans. On Wednesday, he flew over New Orleans on way to a speech at the Rose Garden. On Thursday he made comments on ABC's Good Morning America. On Friday, as the federal response reached the Gulf Coast, so did Bush.
I personally think it is a good use of our money to help other humans in a crisis. Who cares where it comes from. The goal right now is to get those people dug out of the rubble. Maybe we can actually learn from prior mistakes instead of using them as excuses.
I'm not saying we shouldn't help other countries and I'm not pointing fingers at Bush or Obama, I'm saying we could use the money here in our country for our people first. Everybody complains about how bad the economy is and unemployment is so high. Well lets help ourselves get out of our mess before we spend millions always helping someone else.
New Orleans and Louisana were warned about Katrina for about three days before it hit.
Three days! Three days to evacuate the home they've lived in for decades some 50 or more when most didn't even have vechicles to drive to the local grocery store. The buses that were supposed to be sent were left sitting in the bus garage. That's not even the start of all the bungling. I hate it went rich middle class white people can event think they can judge the poor from those areas! Or understand the cycle of poverty in that area and the way the state has handled it.
Yeah, your spin cannot change historical FACTS; President Obama acted faster to bring aid to the people of Haiti than Bush did for Americans after Katrina.
Yes, true true true! Bush should eternally be completely ashamed of himself. My guess is he's still learning to wipe his ass.
Well "US" are having our own crisis right now. But I get it though, if it isnt on tv or in the mainstream media people dont care. Millions are out of work, homeless, living in their cars, shelters, and tent cities. Thats ok though because it is not really true because it isnt in the mainstream media, and the want to be govt doesnt talk about it. So it just has to be fake. Sorry kiddos it is not fake. It is really going on. Use the money here in our own country. Hey Obuma, WE COULD YOU THE HELP HERE IN OUR COUNTRY. You remeber us right? The country that you are supposed to be President of? Remember? Maybe just a little?
Well when you have people here in the US starving and homeless that is a good indication that we need to fix out own problems here first before trying to help others.
I also agree that if this Contries Government does nto want to help to get the Country out of the stone-ages then they have to live with the choices that are made.
I am really surprised this Island still exists, i mean how many mudslides, huricanes and earthqueakes does it take to wipe this crappy piece of land off the earth?
In California , where folks live near places that have alot of mudslides cannot get insurance for the damage that is caused and they dont ask for assistance they just deal with it. Our Government has told them not to build there but they made a chioce to do so and therefore will have to live with those choices as well. I think the same should go for New Orleans as well, if you rebuild there then you should not be able to get flood insurance to cover for any of those damages that occur from the Tropical storms and huricanes.
What? Aren't you the same people who DON'T want to help people in the US either? Did you forget about that? You (are you republicans? teabaggers? wingnuts? I really want to know) are the most cold hearted, money worshipping, whiny bunch of people I've seen.
The U.S. has always been in debt. We're a consumer nation. Our economy runs off our debt to other countries. In fact, the very idea of debt and currency is kind of a joke in the international economy, where everyone, especially right now, is in the red. So what does it matter if we go more into debt? Especially if it saves lives?
I consider the life of someone I've never met much more important than a piece of paper that only has value because the government says so.
Also, why are we trying to connect Katrina to Obama? I'm pretty sure Bush was president during that mess. Before you attack me for Bush-hating, I don't think that fiasco was all his fault. I place more blame on the Louisiana governor for fighting the federal government's attempts to send in help, and on the overall crappy organization of everything.
But I digress. I pray for the people of Haiti, and will gladly help in any way I can.
Yeah, but it's so much easier to blame a white man, isn't it? Just like Africa, no matter how many hundreds of years pass, places like Haiti will always look to the white dollar to save them. Never the self-reliant people...never.
Yeah, but it's so much easier to blame a white man, isn't it? Just like Africa, no matter how many hundreds of years pass, places like Haiti will always look to the white dollar to save them. Never the self-reliant people...never
Oh gawd! Did I just actually read this as it was written? While humans are buried alive??? Really???? Dig them out first before getting all smug about their history, bub!!!!!
Man, human smallness never fails to amaze me? I should quit expecting better.
You want to help someone MPerce -- help me -- I live in the United States and very definitely could USE THE HELP!!!! Send me some money and I am NOT JOKING!!!!
All you people who want to help so much -- why don't you promote to help your own country???? Where were all your posts of help this and help that when the unemployment rate was going, going, gone??? And, by the way, if all of you really believe it's 10% -- we are in some serious, serious freakin trouble. Try more like 20-25%.
Get a serious, serious grip on REALITY!! This country is in some serious, serious trouble. And, your time and turn is coming. Or should I say -- running out!
I'd say the immediate need is to help a country devastated by a 7.0 earthquake, tens of thousands dead, millions hurt and/or homeless, no running water, no electricity, medical.....some needs come before others. But the weird thing is, you people who don't want to help Haiti also don't want to help this country.
Perhaps if more people lived by the "golden rule" we would all be in a better place now. As karma does happen... I hope those people who are so harsh to others realize what their actions & words will be bringing back to them one day. I hope the people in Haiti survive yet another blow to their lives. They're stronger than most soft Americans who weep about a loss of their comforts - no washing machine, no air conditioning....
They're stronger than most soft Americans?! Really? Are you refering to the "soft Americans" and their "soft tax dollars" always there to spend on countries (and people) who will never be able to figure out how to correct any of their problems?
I'm willing to bet you're the type of putz that makes statements like that and then goes to do a load of laundry with your new Kenmore. Idiot.
wait till it happens here !!!! Most folks I see are so fat and unhealthy they can barely walk less survive a falling building! Start thinking about who will help our selfish,Ive got mine and who cares about any one else, piggy oink, oink selves.
Yes, Michelle, people in all societies are all normally conditioned by various stimuli, the United States is no exception! The question we should ask ourselves is not how we compare or envision a 'pig' but rather, idealogically vision what we wish to become. The topic being discussed, if I am not mistaken, is the role of government and it's obligation to the society it serves or controls, pending which country one may reside in the world. Hati is a perfect example of ideology and it's results when tested. May we learn from one another even during imperfect situations.
I truly feel for the people of Haiti but it's quite clear that the Haitian government is a complete joke.... I'm not talking about only this disaster, obviously an earthquake can happen anywhere but this country is so poor and has been wracked by so much political instability and corruption, that it is quite clear, that it is incapable of taking care of itself even in the best of circumstances...granted, the "best" is already pretty grim, given the horrid economic situation that has existed there, practically since France left and they took their fate into their own hands.
Add in a hurricane or two and now an earthquake...they have no chance, they haven't even come close to recovering from last year's storms. They have no credible infrastructure in any sector to deal with this situation on any level of effectiveness.
There are many countries that fit this mold, especially in Africa and Southeast Asia but since Haiti will have the spotlight for the time being, lets talk about it... You can pour all the aid you want into this disaster, but as long as Haitians are left in charge of running Haiti...they will remain in a downward spiral of extreme poverty and misery. The situation there is way beyond repair in any reasonable time frame, it's truly a nightmare scenario.
Bu what to do? In a time when even the wealthiest of nations are experiencing their own economic troubles, I see little hope that enough long term economic aid will pour in, on a coinsistent basis, to lift the Haitian people out of a bottomless pit of despair.
As crazy as it would probably sound to some, A population of 9 million is manageable in my view, manageable enough to be absorbed into large, industrialized nations across the globe...yes, I know this sounds insane, especially considering rising unemployment figures but what's the alternative? I suppose collectively, aid organizations and governments can put a band-aid on the crisis with a few hundred million here and there...but it's only an illusion of help, not nearly enough and not nearly consistent enough to truly change the tenous precipice that Haiti is always teetering on...
The resources of that island and current infrastructure is simply unable to support a population of 9 million. The entire island should be evacuated, if not permanently, at least until, an international U.N led provisional government can get in there, and over a period of time, rebuild the infrastructure, buildings and roads... I can gaurantee, the kind of flimsy, wooden structures that go up quickly right after a disaster like this will fall down like matchsticks during the next hurricane or quake...
There are no easy solutions or quick fixes for a nation that has been allowed to decay and crumble to the point where Haiti finds itself presently. Sure, evacuation is extreme but this is an extreme situation...anything less is just window dressing, that may save some Haitians but simply postpones their fate for another day and does little to change the long-term doomed course of this Island and its suffering people.
They probably don't want to leave, and on the other side of the island, the Dominican Republic seems to get by ok. Although, when in Puerto Rico, I read that the Dominicans come to PR, get papers to appear to be Puerto Rican, so they can easily come to the U.S.
My parents were there in 1970 - 40 years ago this summer - on a cruise. It had a lasting effect on my father, who was forever sympathetic to Haiti - under the rule of "Papa Doc" and then "Baby Doc" - bleeding Haiti's resources dry. Made Ohio look pretty good. It is doubtful that this population will leave, unless a world wide outreach happened - and who wants more poor and uneducated masses these days? That, and there was the AIDS problem too.
Looks like The leaders of the nations who are going to help will be part owners of Haiti now. Hmmm.... There will be a a few that will "own/rule" the world, then there will be just ONE to rule all........
Are there any other nations running to the rescue? Is there ever? Obama's just looking politically correct, he doesn't care really. ..and money is free.
just like he showed so much compassion when the "terrorist" tried to blow up the plane in Christmas but he was too busy enjoying live in Hawaii to bother to comment on the matter until days later and after all of the public was screaming WTF to the President!!!!!
Bush was right there and on tv that night when 9/11 happened, so I am not sure what you are talking about, unless you are referring to the Katrina episode where he did respond and it was FEMA who dragged their feet and also their own local government who BTW is still in office there.
just like he showed so much compassion when the "terrorist" tried to blow up the plane in Christmas but he was too busy enjoying live in Hawaii to bother to comment on the matter until days later and after all of the public was screaming WTF to the President!!!!!
FYI: NOTHING HAPPENED THAT DAY THANK GOODNESS. There was time to THINK & obtain information & plan. Three million people are suffering right now in Haiti, big difference.
These people need the world's help right now due to this disaster. It doesn't matter where it comes from or how it gets there. At this minute there is no viable communications and people are most likely trapped. A hospital collapsed so they are in dire need or medical help.
It doesn't matter if my tax money is going to help these poor people. I'd rather it be used for this than raises for our officials.
My heart and prayers go out to these people. After seeing what the people of the south went through with Katrina, help can't get there soon enough. Think how you would feel if this happened to you. I would hate to be trapped and think that people were arguing over the fact or whether I deserved to be rescued for financial reasons.
Your taxes were spent 20 years go. You have no money. Let the other countries and our churches send aid thru donations.
America is broke, her wealth was stolen. If a father with a wife and five children never brought home his paycheck and spent it for all the poor under priviledged, uneducated, disenfranchised fluzzies at the world bar across town and never took care of his family, what would you call him?
I would call him an ingrate, no character, no morales, disgusting, and several 4 letter words that I would only say in the privacy of my own home as they are not nice words.
So much so a President, responsible for an entire nation.
A Father, with character, decency, morales and love takes care of his family first and above all. With his abundance, he then helps the under priviledged, the disenfranchised, the disabled, the hungry, the mentally ill and hopefully nothing goes to the fluzzies. ( :
Haiti has had a presence there and trillions of dollars from all countries for umpteen years. Haitians just get poorer and poorer. How can a little country get poorer and poorer with trillions being pumped in? Is it cursed or something? Are the leaders living lavish lifestyles and letting the people squander in abject poverty?
Maybe common sense would prevail over trillions more dollars wasted and be a real help to the haitians.
ps:"It's a lie that I urged people not to give to charity for Haiti. Nobody in their right mind would ever believe that about me or anyone else. I did say find some way to do it other than giving it to the government and Obama, 'cause I know he's going to eliminate the charitable deduction." -Rush
Great! Yet another example of how we can help everyone but ourselves. Why is it that America always comes to the rescue? I'm not trying to sound cold hearted but America needs to focus on America. How much will this cost us? All these countries talk crap about America and then hold their hand out when they need help. Meanwhile when we had a massive disaster it took our own government five days to get water to the people in the superdome. How many jobs could be created with the money being spent? How could education be improved with the money being spent for this? Again not trying to be cold hearted but let them rot. America needs to focus on employing Americans, Fixing the economy, and stopping the wars we are fighting. I would love to have 1/10 of the money our government pisses away. We should evac our people and let them handle thier problems. Their is nothing sadder than walking the streets of Washington D.C. and seeing homeless kids dressed in rags, freezing, starving; and our government wants to help another country. Pathetic.
You are not cold hearted. It is fiscal mathematics. You do not have money how can you donate it? I call it common sense, not pie in the sky pseudo science.
I understand humanitarian issues... I understand human suffering, but this is a country that hates the United States and is openly hostile towards us. They have murdered Americans and would gleefully do so again. Were a great country but not too bright sometimes, let their own people help them, we don't need to be there every time somebody gets a boo boo.
Are Haitians less deserving than Americans? I am curious to understand why a lot of you dislike the idea of helping people who are not like US citizens. Is it poverty? Their leadership? Their color? Or the fact that they are not like you?
Social psychology theories attempt to "address the question of why people engage in discrimination, i.e., why they tend to favor those they consider a part of their "in-group" over those considered to be outsiders. Both questions have been given extensive treatment by Henri Tajfel and John C. Turner's social identity theory. Their theory focuses mainly on the role of self-categorization and attempts to show how a simple sense of distinctiveness can lead people to act in a discriminating way. Moreover, social identity theory shows that merely crafting cognitive distinction between in- and out-groups can lead to subtle effects on people's evaluations of others (Cote & Levine 2002)." Wikipedia
Maybe you should walk down one of their streets and see long it takes for them to rape, torture or murder you because your an Ameriacn and your "not like them" I encourage you to work your social skills on them.
First, you really need to pay attention to rottenwill's comment. Second, don't quote from wikipedia. Have an original thought. If you feel so strongly about it, take your ass down there and help them. I can assure you that you will not be back. That should put your interpretation of social identity theory to the test. This is not an issue of discrimination. It is an issue of common sense. You can not take care of others when you can't take care of yourself. Unemployment is high, we have homeless people, and people who go hungry everyday. We need to fix us before we can fix anybody else. If you can't see that then you don't pay attention to the news. America has it's hands in to many issues right now to be helping a @!$%#ty 3rd world country that would not help us. How many people from Haiti came to America to assist us when the trade centers were hit? How many people from Haiti came to assist when our coasts were ravaged by hurricanes? Answer: None. Hell it took FEMA 5 days to get water to those poor americans. Many still have not recovered. Their childlren are thier responsibility. American children need better education, living conditions, and most of all jobs at some point. Again, if you went to Haiti, those sweet kids would rob you blind. It would behoove you to think before you type.
I am not saying that we don't have problems here. And I don't see how Haiti would have the resources to help the US in the past.
I wanted to see why the posters were opinionated to the point of being apathetic to suffering. Have any of the posters visited Haiti? Is there a reason beyond poverty and desperation that their culture accepts violence? Also, I can quote whatever has references. I have enough background to know that the Wiki information is accurate.
No. the internet is not always correct. I NEVER said that. Never.
References are the little notations in parentheses - did you see that? It says (cote and Levine 2002)... That is the actual study done by social scientists.
Besides Jenny, they did have the resources to help us. They just needed to send people to help. They could have helped with clean up, (im sure after hurricanes and earthquakes they are quite skilled in how to use a shovel) food distribution, (If they didn't eat it), and distributing clothing. (again if they didn't steal that as well.) You really need to put your "background" to use and view how Haiti has treated U.S. Citizens in the past. Here is what you stated "I have enough background to know that the Wiki information is accurate." Wiki is part of the internet so yes you did say that. I'm guessing your were not burdened with an overabundance of schooling.
How is stating that I know that particular Wiki information is accurate the same as saying that I know Wiki is always right? Just as you know the the color of this background is white, I knew that this particular information was correct due to the fact that I studied it. I referenced Wiki only to give them credit for writing it. Just as I could find a news article, I can copy it and then reference the writer. It doesn't mean the writer was correct. If the writer referenced a study, then that would give more credit to the accuracy.
You have grammatical errors in your typing yet I do not get off on insulting you.
You can't agrue with a bleeding heart, left wing extremist Liberal like Jenny, so stop wasting your breath. Like Obozo, she thinks she knows, and has an answer for everything.
Thanks for your post, Jenny. Unfortunately, you are wasting your intelligent thoughts on the majority of ignorant posters on this thread. I doubt most of them even understood your information.
We should help-that's what America does. I was on an Amphibious Transport dock (LPD) and while loading supplies one day noticed that baby food and diapers were being onloaded. I asked the supply office what they were for and he said "emergencies - hurricane relief, earthquakes etc.". Apparently all large navy ships have these items onboard. We should be sending some down to help. Additionally, these vessels have medical personell onboard.
I remember when during a large disaster President Bush ordered a US Aricraft carrier sent to the location along with Marine Support Personnel. Some liberal butt wipe commented "whats he going to do invade or bomb them??"
Actually besides being a US Warship, the average aircraft carrier has 4 operating rooms, dental facilities, fresh water manufacturing plant and can supply electricity to light up a city the size of San Diego as well as act as a airfield for rescue helicopters operating in the region for tower control and refueling etc.
In any disaster seeing the US Flag and any warship is a welcome relief to anyone other than liberals and fanatics.
Think about it, WWJD? In other words, what would Jesus do? As another commenter said, you can't take your money with you after you die. The love of money is one of the roots of all evil!
It is high time that good old CHINA,The United Arab Emirates and other ah "worthies" stepped up to the plate and gave monetary assistance until it hurts to poor old decrepid Haiti! The United States is spent and ailing and no longer has the resources to look after all the world`s indigent.God knows,The U.S.A. has far too many of it`s own citizens living in deplorable conditions and can no longer spread it`s finite largesse around as if it was going out of style. You look after your own first.Besides, many countries came to old China`s assistance when that "country" was gobsmacked and kicked in the rear by an earthquake in May 2008 so it is high time that China practiced a little reciprocity.Come on China...Haiti is waiting!
It is sad this nation's people, and our government, are focused more on pointing fingers and blaming the two party systems with half truths rather than dealing with the reality of history.
They were not left to fend for themselves. They were warned that this hurricane was coming and buses were provided for them. Noticed who stayed. Just noticed. I'm tired of working and taking care of idiots. If they cut off the welfare system then yes we would have to fend for ourselves as we should. I'm tired of excueses. I can't, no body gave me a chance, my parents abuse me, I'm bipolar. JUST STOP and take PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY. Or is that another word this administration says we cannot say anymore!
Dv- I am sorry you have had a difficult life but not everyone can "fend for themselves," as you can. Your theory worked really well in the Nazi society, this is because people with disabilities or mental illness were just exterminated. Social workers who work in this field do it because everyone has the possibility to fall on hard times from time to time, which is another side of the coin of personal responsibility.
Daniel: Shut the heck up about the banking industry already. What does that have to do with anything remotely associated with the earthquake? You sound like a Chatty Cathy doll; pull your string and you spit out senseless leftist drivel.
Obama is already sending money and teams of relief to Haiti. Wouldn't that have been nice if Bush had done the same thing for his OWN country in the aftermath of Katrina and Rita?
He did. The real fools of Katrina were Ray(Choclate City) Nagin(mayor) and the democratic gov. They were both non-reactive of the warnings that were given in advance. The local govts. are really to blame.
You're exactly right Bruce , however many on here will blame Bush..(its all they know how to do) Many of the poor things (neglected by Bush) elected to remain for the storm so they could get the looting started as soon as possible. I saw pictures with one news account ot the situation there & the writer was tearful & overwrought about the poor things just trying to get food. I guess they were really hungry. The pictures showed them with clothes ,shoes ,tv's. booze & etc. I've never tried to eat a tv but don't think it would be tasty nor nourishing. Bush should be brought to trial for causing this catastrophe in Haiti also!!
What Obama is doing is wonderful, and very much needed. Bush's initial offer of assistance was before Katrina hit and the Mayor of New Orleans said I will handle it and was quite hostile towards the offer of help from Bush. Nagin also believed that Katrina was going to be no big deal, just hype. His words. That is a fact, it is documented but did not appear in the press. Nagin then allowed 1500 school buses to stay idle and the bus drivers fled town as well as the police force. The only part of the police force that stayed by the way was white officers, all the black officers said, " i have my own family to look after. You should look this up for yourself, and you will recognize once you read it that Bush was a victum of a very hostile media due to his keeping a lid on security issues involving terrorism. People need to dig the facts up on there own, the news often distorts, omits, and is overall not very well informed, but put headlines up to sell there product.
I'm praying for those who lost loved one in this tragic act of nature but it took the Prez a minute to react where as the Ft Hood & Underware bomber it took him days. He is not focued on the people that hired him but always focused on what makes him look good. You may have received the nobel peace prize prez but you are no prize to the Americans!
Just because YOU didn't hear him respond doesn't mean he didn't speak to the powers that be & the families at the base. Also Ft. Hood as tragic as it was is a small event in comparison; in Haiti their are now about 3 million who are homeless & we don't know the number of how many dead.Have some compassion.
It seems that he only wants to rush to the aid of other countries, when the US is in its own catastrophe, but i guess maybe he sees himself different, maybe he doesn't see himself as American, maybe he wants us to go down in flames?? Things that make you go HHHMMMM Is there a plan?
How long will it be before Beck, Limbaugh, and Cheney are criticizing Obama over this?
Let's see- Beck will tell everyone that the quake was caused by a secret project run by the CIA and Acorn. He'll show how this was accomplished with one of his "logical" flow charts. Perhaps he will cry.
Limbaugh - He'll make a statement saying there's nothing wrong with the Haitian medical system, so why are we sending people there to change it?
Cheney - Will claim that sending our USAR teams out of the country on a humanitarian mission is aiding the terrorists and making America less safe.
El Whapo-- Exactly. And where is the worlds new economic superpower..China? How much money, aid and manpower are they sending?? Oh, and Germany, Russia, let's see how much they contribute. And how much contribution $$ can we expect from the middle east oil rich nations? Why is it always expected that the US taxpayer is/will foot the bill?
Better stick with prayer. Your Dems have spent all the money into the foreseeable future.
Don't forget the Democratic congeress that was overseeing Banking, they are the ones that took the payoff in contributions to look the other way!
....and...if my memory serves me correctly....wasn't it a black mayor of New Orleans....who was a DEMOCRAT....that also called it "a chocolate city"...who was running the show down there?
I am sorry the the Haitian people and the destruction that has happened there, but why should we spend our hard earned taxed to death dollars to help them? Where was the rest of the world when we needed aid when Katrina stuck? No where! We need to stop trying to be the worlds savior and save ourselves. We are so far in debt now that end of the tunnel is many years away. Yes I'm all about helping the American people. Screw the rest of the world and lets look out for number 1 for a change.
BlackKnight,
If that is the case, bring all the soldiers home because we don't have the money for it. I hope you are advocating for that as well
What heartless, compassionless, cold remarks.
Question, have you donated to homeless Americans recently?
txman29
Ya I'm sure China and Saudi Arabia will be able to have a quick response time to save all of those trapped. NOT! We are right next door yanno. This is one of only a few instances where I agree with Obama. Get those people help now!
If he really wants to help them send all the illegal ones living here back to help. He needs to learn the words " we feel bad for you but this is not our problem" that way he will not screw us up any more than he is already. He is probably looking at this as furure voters for his next election.
This is not a political issue, it is a human one.
STOP IT!
Allen, I literally just heard the msnbc news in the background saying a carrier was sent.
And why not? Marineone from the WH into the heart of New Orleans...THINK.
(Yeah,GB#1 in your moniker, lol...your unbiased.)
RI Mom,
This type of devistation has happened here.
Somehow I knew I would come here and see compassionless remarks from some of you. What does it matter who jumps first?
I am sure all those bankers who got those fat bonuses will gladly donate them to help Haiti...right? (We got the money, and these are the ones who got it.)
SH-2000
"Allen, I literally just heard the msnbc news in the background saying a carrier was sent."
Oh, so you're the viewer! I was wondering who that was.
At this point Martian Tripods could be landing and incenerating people and alot of the folks here would be arguing if ithis were the fault of the Republicans or Democrats.
Any excuse to start a flame war.

Tyler will eventually restore this post.

Doubtful? To verify this for yourself click on this link:
www.thefederalregister.com/d.p/2009-02-04-E9-2488
Roosterboy -
i've known this for years but don't tell that to the fanatical right-wing freaks on this board! "NO, that can't be!!!!"
LOL.
Are you listening liberals?
Daniel, since when was the free enterprise system invented by the Republicans?
There's still plenty of money left here and there.
AP reports $128,000,000,000.00 a year on illegal betting. Add in the drug trade....
Therese in NV -
so i assume your prescription for our dilemma is another Ronald Reagan and i see you choose to forget the REASON for all this spending under Obama (what Bush left him with). you also choose to forget that Bush was really little more than a bad Reagan.
http://zfacts.com/p/318.html
NOTE: these are FACTS and NOT PROJECTIONS!
why are you people so afraid to look at both sides of the issue?
To HELL with the Katrina and Bush thing.....move on and get a real life. What this is about is the QUICK response to help others and the SLOW response to help our OUR COUNTRY and ourselves. Only if history could tell us what other countries and places did before rapid transit, quick news and the frickin' dreadful INTERNET.
Funny how we had a surplus in the budget under Clinton and MASSIVE DEBT under Bu$h and us Dems are at fault? Go figure. Now about Haiti were are the USNS Comfort and USNS Mercy?
I Wonder when the U.S will realize we don't have the money to continue these do-good acts for other countries.
Then we'll be critized later for not giving more.
I feel for the people of Haiti, but PLEASE don't send MY tax dollars to be wasted there. Please, keep them in the U.S. so they can be wasted here !!
i totaly agree withg smith. we have our own problems here in the united states. watch and see how much we give them in aid as far as money. it will be interesting where this money comes from!!!! why dont i or anyone get a bailout. sounds selfish but we have millions our selfs here in the u.s out of work give them money first. then MAYBE GIVE SOME to other countrys that need it. we have been for years sticking our nose where it dont belong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! where were some of these other countrys when we needed moneyfor the bank bailouts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! perhaps we should stay out of other countrys problems and take care of our own!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree!! What $$$ are they talking of? Where is this coming from? Obama is on an ENORMOUS spending spree.
Hell, I'd LOVE to send $1mil to Haiti for help. Funny how I get stopped by the bank over a "little" thing such as NO FUNDS!
Yes, this is a tragedy. Yes, we would LOVE to help; BUT our Government is spending cash IT DOESN'T HAVE!!!
Paddy murphy,
"white administration" I get it. Bush was president of "real Americans" i.e white americans and Obama is the president of "black Americans", i.e. not real americans. Your comment is racist. If it wasn't for my strict compliance with the COH, I would tell you what you are."
Well, we can be sure of one thing: no matter what the US does for Haiti, we'll be criticized for it as usual.
Exactly Anti...
Ahh America first in line to claim its righteousness and blessedness but when the veil falls it is whom who are the churls and boors?
I gotta go listen to "And I'm proud to be an American..." and listen to it on my own terms...just like everyone else.
Blouwaghhttt. (the sound of me puking)
Anyone notice that China, the country eating our economic lunch, is only spending 1 million on Haiti aid??
"U.S. plans massive military response for Haiti..."
Good Lord, reading this headline made me think we were invading another country! Shouldn't it read "U.S. plans massive military AID for Haiti"?
"Lott's wish that segregation had prevailed in 1948 was racist in that it expressed the belief that the country would have been better off had the policy of segregation of the races and the implied suppression of the rights of Black Americans prevailed in 1948 was racist.">>>And only the willfully left-of- left could possibly see all this in Lott's statement that "Who knows what would have happened had you been elected President, Strom?" One of your own "people" -- Robert Byrd -- was champion dragon or whatever they call them of the KKK. You have no room to talk or to throw stones.
1 restored, 2.3, not so much:
Ginger-806366, you're suspended for a day for violating #1 of the Code of Honor. Repeatedly.
Tyler,
How dare you reprint my post after collapsing it and take it out of context.
I feel for the people of Haiti, but PLEASE don't send MY tax dollars to be wasted there. Please, keep them in the U.S. so they can be wasted here !!
I also feel for the people of Haiti, however: we are broke. Where is the money going to come from this time? Maybe wall street can bail them out. I would like to keep an open mind so if anyone out there can show me some facts on who has helped us after our disasters, it would help.
Jonas 307607,
Hello. when Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans there were tremendous offers or support monetary and otherwise from hundreds of countries around the world (includung Iran and Iraq).
No baby get your facts straight.....Bush did turn down money several times before excepting some money (which I don't know where it went..ohh maybe the war effort) And I don't have to post a particular website for you to go to because I get my fact from books and factual resources. Myabe you should do the same.
TO ALLEN
LOOK IT UP before you shoot your mouth off:
The United States declined 54 of 77 recorded aid offers from three of its staunchest allies: Canada, Britain and Israel, according to a 40-page State Department table of the offers that had been received as of January 2006.

It would have been just more money pilfered in New Orleans due to the corruption.
you are an @!$%#!
Oh don't you feel bad not send our TAX DOLLARS into a sink hole? People who you can never help ever to begin with!
We know what didn't happen and it wasn't right!!!!!
unrealistic woman,
I have no idea what you are talking about.
I don't see him blaming Obama or the Dems...where did you learn to read?
I though back in 2005 the Dems said Bush drove Hurricane Katrina right up into New Orleans.Obama had to do the earthquake.
Hopefully, the global community will help Haiti and just America...Furthermore, I am not judging, but Haiti needs to make some changes Educationally, Economically, Politcally and Religiously.
Hopefully, the global community will help Haiti and not just America...Furthermore, I am not judging, but Haiti needs to make some changes Educationally, Economically, Politcally and Religiously.
Chris-344699, I agree.
I hope the U.S. and other countries will cooperate to provide the massive aid Haiti needs to deal effectively with this terrible tragedy.
Maybe out of this disaster can rise the "changes" Haiti and its people need.
I pray for God's perfect will for all those affected.
Why is it expected that the U.S. has to send aid at all? I thought the U.S. wasn't supposed to get involved in things?
What has their Religion have to do with anything?
....let me see?...hmmm?....in some instances...maybe....just maybe....it helps instill proper moral values....leading to traditional families being formed...and maintained....and THAT....in many cases....has led to thriving and progressing civilizations.
Opus - so, you are going to break down religion to just basic social engineering??
Somehow, that is not a comfort.
Maybe it being a Catholic country is the reference for "change"? Like - use birth control for a change?
....let me see?...hmmm?....in some instances...maybe....just maybe....it helps instill proper moral values....leading to traditional families being formed...and maintained....and THAT....in many cases....has led to thriving and progressing civilizations.
Religion IS social engineering. Freud had one thing right.
As for me, I'm a Pastafarian.
.....would that be the Rigatoni or Farfalle sect?
So what was Bushes response when the storm hit & people drowned in their homes & died on their roof tops? Nothing.
Yeah, your spin cannot change historical FACTS; President Obama acted faster to bring aid to the people of Haiti than Bush did for Americans after Katrina.
We remember.
I personally think it is a good use of our money to help other humans in a crisis. Who cares where it comes from. The goal right now is to get those people dug out of the rubble. Maybe we can actually learn from prior mistakes instead of using them as excuses.
Thank you Tracey! Finally someone w/a heart!
If you really want to help the people in Haiti, either move them somewhere else or level the whole area and start over.
I am glad we are helping, but why doesn't our government "aggressively" help the citizens of the United States too?
I'm not saying we shouldn't help other countries and I'm not pointing fingers at Bush or Obama, I'm saying we could use the money here in our country for our people first. Everybody complains about how bad the economy is and unemployment is so high. Well lets help ourselves get out of our mess before we spend millions always helping someone else.
Because its all about me, me, me? How about we go where the help is needed the most?
Maybe you should get some facts!
Yes, true true true! Bush should eternally be completely ashamed of himself. My guess is he's still learning to wipe his ass.
lib50: If you don't think The United States doesn't need help then you must be deaf, dumb and blind. It's not about me, it's about us as a country.
What if that happen to us.....Then what would you say......We need to help those in
need. The money that we will send will go to a good cause.......When you die you
can't take the money with you.....Think people..........That why the world is the
way it is today......Just live for the moment.
Idiot.
I don't think they get it, katpaws. And they are the ones who probably think they are morally "superior". At least that is what I see in their posts.
wait till it happens here !!!! Most folks I see are so fat and unhealthy they can barely walk less survive a falling building! Start thinking about who will help our selfish,Ive got mine and who cares about any one else, piggy oink, oink selves.
good post- brutal, but true.
I think you've been staring in the mirror too long, michelle. Oh, and caps CAN be your friend.
must be looking in a mirror
They might as well. They'll run it better than Haiti's present gov...hmmm.
Obammy better help our big and fast. We wouldn't want to hear from Kanye West again.
Are there any other nations running to the rescue? Is there ever? Obama's just looking politically correct, he doesn't care really. ..and money is free.
Yes other nations are helping too. Try Googling it.
Politically correct? No dear it's called being compassionate. You may not recoginize it because we haven't seen it during the previous administration.
just like he showed so much compassion when the "terrorist" tried to blow up the plane in Christmas but he was too busy enjoying live in Hawaii to bother to comment on the matter until days later and after all of the public was screaming WTF to the President!!!!!
Bush was right there and on tv that night when 9/11 happened, so I am not sure what you are talking about, unless you are referring to the Katrina episode where he did respond and it was FEMA who dragged their feet and also their own local government who BTW is still in office there.
He is not compassionate, he is a politician. He is only worried about what will get him elected again.
Compassion? My eye...
FYI: NOTHING HAPPENED THAT DAY THANK GOODNESS. There was time to THINK & obtain information & plan. Three million people are suffering right now in Haiti, big difference.
SH:
Nothing happened? It was like someone pointing a gun at your head and the bullet was a dud. Would that be a situation where nothing happened?
There was only time to think and plan because it was a dud. Lucky is more like it.
I think china has a few bucks, "Oh wait, what about Iran?, I'm sure they will be glad to add $$$$$$ and if not them, how about Saudi Arabia???
Good point ArmyMom
Armymom,
Your taxes were spent 20 years go.
It is also called, "common sense."
Ginger, good points to remember next time a president decides it would be cool to be a wartime president.
I know, wish that Barry would quit dithering. Either potty of get off the pot!
America sucks.
Americans are imperialists.
Wait, we need help.
You've
Please America send us help.
You've got to be kidding !!!!!!!!
Amen Brother!
You hit the nail on the head. Where's France? Wasn't Haiti part of the French Colonies? I bet they ain't sending squat.
Haiti is a sewer, let it burn. One more cesspool gone I say. I suppose the U.S. will pay to "rebuild" them as well
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2010/01/12/world/main6089607.shtml
Many nations are sending help including France.
Grow a heart.
& maybe it can pump wnough blood for you to grow a brain too.
When did Haitians call us imperialists?
sh - where's Australia????
Ok, thanks for your input. Haitians are too violent. Are the children undeserving as well?
Are Haitians less deserving than Americans? Yes, Haitians hate the USA
Is it poverty? No, but they could stop having ten babies each
Their leadership? Yes they also hate the USA
Their color? Oh!!! Less pull the race card out
The fact that they are not like you? there not, I don't murder and rape people.
Jennyct,
First, you really need to pay attention to rottenwill's comment.
Right jenny, The internet is always correct isnt it. Your funny. Maybe you should take over for leno and conan on the tonight show.
No. the internet is not always correct.
Jennyct,
You made some really great points, this is because you are obviously educated and not just shooting from the hip... or is that from the lip?
aaarrrggghhh ;)
Thank you for all of your time and energy that was spent with helping people Michele! :0)
You can't agrue with a bleeding heart, left wing extremist Liberal like Jenny, so stop wasting your breath. Like Obozo, she thinks she knows, and has an answer for everything.
Another insult for asking a question. Wow.
Michelle - I appreciate your input (and efforts). thanks
Thanks for your post, Jenny. Unfortunately, you are wasting your intelligent thoughts on the majority of ignorant posters on this thread. I doubt most of them even understood your information.
JennyTC.
Do you feel that American children are undeserving? Even less so than Haitian ones?
How do you come up with the assumption that poor kids in Haiti are less fortunate than ones in America?
We should help-that's what America does. I was on an Amphibious Transport dock (LPD) and while loading supplies one day noticed that baby food and diapers were being onloaded. I asked the supply office what they were for and he said "emergencies - hurricane relief, earthquakes etc.". Apparently all large navy ships have these items onboard. We should be sending some down to help. Additionally, these vessels have medical personell onboard.
Thank you for serving Bruce!!
Thanks Navy!
Think about it, WWJD? In other words, what would Jesus do? As another commenter said, you can't take your money with you after you die. The love of money is one of the roots of all evil!
Um, I think that is - "The lack of money is the root of all evil"... or at least, that would be more accurate.
We take with us to the afterlife what we give the poor.
Not everyone was capable of leaving and some really had nowhere else to go.
Daniel: Shut the heck up about the banking industry already. What does that have to do with anything remotely associated with the earthquake? You sound like a Chatty Cathy doll; pull your string and you spit out senseless leftist drivel.
Social workers and socialists are two different things... look up the definition in a dictionary sometime.
Obama is already sending money and teams of relief to Haiti. Wouldn't that have been nice if Bush had done the same thing for his OWN country in the aftermath of Katrina and Rita?
I'll second that!
N.O. re-elected Nagin, my sympathy wore thin there. At least they got rid of that dimwit govenor, and seems like most like the new one, Jindal.
I am not sure the protocol on emergencies, but don't local officials have to notify state officials who than notify Federal officials?
I'm praying for those who lost loved one in this tragic act of nature but it took the Prez a minute to react where as the Ft Hood & Underware bomber it took him days. He is not focued on the people that hired him but always focused on what makes him look good. You may have received the nobel peace prize prez but you are no prize to the Americans!
BS!!!!!!
Your spin is uncalled for.
I agree dv-585526,
It seems that he only wants to rush to the aid of other countries, when the US is in its own catastrophe, but i guess maybe he sees himself different, maybe he doesn't see himself as American, maybe he wants us to go down in flames??
Lol! So true.
I'll do it now. We have our own citizens suffering and struggling to survive. Help them first!
Almost as ignorant as borrowing more money from the Chinese to give back to them to fix their pollution.
When all American "Legal Citizens" are fed and clothed first, then help outsiders.
None of those mentioned will criticize Obama for helping the Haitians. That is a silly post.
Perfect! Could not have put it better myself.
My "Perfect!" comment was meant in reply to Medic400:
How long will it be before Beck, Limbaugh, and Cheney are criticizing Obama over this?
Just so it's clear. :-)
Oh, they will bash Obama!! Not for Haiti, but everything else that the moron is doing.
Where's Cuba, where's Chavez?
El Whapo-- Exactly. And where is the worlds new economic superpower..China? How much money, aid and manpower are they sending?? Oh, and Germany, Russia, let's see how much they contribute. And how much contribution $$ can we expect from the middle east oil rich nations? Why is it always expected that the US taxpayer is/will foot the bill?
