Seeing passengers beset by years of an ever-evolving airport security, some activists and experts are asking how much compliance is too much in the name of homeland security.
TSA tries to assuage full-body scan concerns

why MSNBC are you not posting a picture of what the nude-o-scopes show? Afraid of posting nude pictures?
Here, I'll help you-

It's really pretty simple. Receive a full body scan and live or reject one and die. Easy decision.
"They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety" - Ben Franklin.
Another case of the "terrorists" accomplishing their mission, making "suspects" of all of us, babies included.
Ridiculous.
Stop exaggerating. It is an outline of one's body. That is it. Take a train, a bus, a ship, a car if you don't care for it.
HRDawg- I think the terrorist's mission is to murder us not make suspects of us. Perhaps we should try a system where some planes flew without security and those reluctant to be searched could fly them. Then other planes could require full security checks of all that wanted to fly on them. Then we could see what happened. As for me I'll ride on the latter and you can take your chances on the former. Fair enough?
Says me, "They who give up essential safety to obtain a little unimportant privacy shall receive neither safety nor privacy in the morgue after being bombed"
If they want to look at my braunschweiger have at it, enjoy!
Feeling secure on an airplane is important to me so if you want to use a full body scanner on me fine, I'll comply. Privacy and dignity are also important to me so here is what would make the use of these devices acceptable to me (not that anyone cares what's acceptable to me!):
1. Congress adopt a law outlining the use of these devices containing the following sanctions:
a. inappropriate comments regarding the body of any individual being scanned shall be grounds for immediate termination and a $5,000 fine.
b. inappropriate comments shall include any discussion or utterance of any kind not directly related to airport security
c. unauthorized use of any image created by a full body scanner shall be punishable by a $100,000 fine and up to 3 years in prison.
d. unauthorized use shall include the storage, retention, or transmission of any image by any means.
You may now scan my body.
Found this article interesting. Read the entire article in the link provided.
New X-ray device has super imaging power
(http://www.post-trib.com/news/1970235,scanner-machine-0101.article)
January 3, 2010
-- a machine they say is superior to the metal detectors and body scanners making the news.
Guns, explosive powders, plastic weapons -- the machine can show them all, no matter where they're at.
Even if they're inside a human body.
If everything goes according to their plan, the Purdue Technology Center incubator-based Nesch LLC will see its product in airports worldwide helping to stop terrorists from using airplanes as their personal weapons.
The device called Diffraction-Enhanced X-ray Imaging, or DEXI, is basically an X-ray machine on steroids -- but with far fewer X-rays. A normal X-ray machine will use three sources -- light absorption, refraction and scattering -- to produce one image. Because the light refractions and light scatterings don't mix well, the result is a blurry image, one that picks up on bones but not soft tissue.
Sounds fair to me. Congress?
I have had one of these scans done and they viewed the scan at the checkpoint not in some private room somewhere and I got to see mine because they did not immediately scan someone else behind me.
The image was so NOT detail oriented that I simply don't know what the big deal is. I can only surmise that you have been reading commentaries but have no clue what the images really look like because if you did you'd know that all of this brouhaha is bogus.
I like the comment above. If you don't want to be scanned take a bus, train, car, boat. I want to get to my destination safely and alive (to the best that our current technology can provide that). Don't fly if this isn't your bag, baby.
One incident without the scan, and you will have a revolt on your hands that you will not be able to quell. Privacy, my ass, who cares if you have implants, I want to get home to see my family.
"Federal authorities, working to close security gaps exposed by the thwarted Christmas Day terrorist attack"
nice move by government once again! when we all know the security gap was not at air ports but in and by the very agencies and departments that claim they are mandating this for our safety, our intelligence area failed to act and not for lack of info compliance on our part or anything to do with citizens. but rather they were warned given many specifics and just sat back to wait for it to be caried out. I say bunch of traitors.
they had all the info they needed to search this person out just like they had it for 911 and now we have to get virtualy nude for them? and get hit with radiation all over the body? no wonder they want universal health care, cancer is about to go through the roof!! and some of you tough talking in here about wanting to get home safe think this is the answer. and not our angancies doing thier jobs right and on time.
when will we stop cowering? its funny , after 911 when folk stopped flying and traveling, in affect restricting themselves GOV and Business came out saying now "don't give into the terrorist" "don't let them change our way of life"
"don't let them make you afraid" yea because they were loosing millions. so when its convenient for them the invoke fear, when it's hurting the botom line then they convince you against it and send you into danger. so even our emotions are controlled to keep us afraid enough to comply but not enough to decide for our selves in a way that is not profitable.
lets wake up !stop being weak and demand they do their jobs right
Those who object to their image being scanned might want to consider counseling. They need to learn why they are so delusional that they believe that people can't figure out what their body image is. Does anyone who is 5 feet 2 inches tall weighing 250 lbs really think that they are "hiding" anything by wearing clothes? If you have a problem with being too fat, or too skinny, then do something about it. If you have a problem being a human being, well... get over it. What's next, separate flights for those who want the safety of knowing everyone has been scanned and for those who are ashamed of their bodies and would rather increase their risk of being blown up. Let's face it folks, there are a bunch of people (if you can call them that) out there who will do anything to kill us. Why make it easier?
The human body isn't unique except when compared to another animal. The puritanical mind-set is a sick, dangerous invention of our society. What does looking at every hair follicle or skin pore have to do with personal privacy? Safety and staying alive in this dangerous world are much more important. Get over it and either travel or stay home.
hey you two above witchrunner and fisherman
why do you keep insisting that other get over something when you cant. aka you fear of terrorist.
if you are truly well intentioned why don't you blow that same breath of chastisement towards they ones that continually FAIL to keep folks safe by looking the other way?
there is Absolutley no need for this type of messure to be the FIRST thing they turn to when this is not the reason the guy got by HELLOOOOO!
they new about him HELLOOOOO!
they did nothing HELLOOOOO!
why? did you ask that ?
you and those like you want others to do your will so you can feel better, safer, smarter, or what ever they days order is. what you accuse others of is in the end really what you are.
i feel safe when i know these agangies and the government are doing their jobs correctly. not when folks get violated in the name of my safety sorry but thats just the way it is. i would value your rights and privacy although you would not mine and my families. i hold the correct folks accountable and everyone else blindly. not you
they can do better than this
18 major airports!
That oughtta stop the bad guys!
How about take a flight out of Hoboken?
Kinda like the phrase: "If you outlaw guns........."
By the way, did you know legislation was passed allowing the IRS to fine or jail, or both, anyone who doesn't claim any firearm they own, and be fingerprinted, on their 2009 taxes?
Yeah, this is all for OUR protection!
"Freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose"
In this day and age of thong underwear, push-up bras, breast implants, pants worn around the tookis where underwear and butt cracks are out there for all to see, Playboy, Playgirl, Hooters, major movies being anywhere from soft porn to near hard core porn, ....NOW people are getting all puritanical and shy? Get over youselves and turn around...no need to smile even. Just DO IT or all your personal "private parts" will be decorating the fusilage and the landscape.
Oh!
That's right!
I forgot all people are the same anymore!
Just do what you're told.
It's the new "progressive" America!
Airlines are in financial jeopardy for one reason or another, now people are going to be staying away in droves because they won't feel safe. A perfect setup for the govenment to come in and take over another industry.
The solution is very simple, undergo a full body scan or take the bus. You have an expectation to arrive safely at your destination without increased anxiety caused by someone not willing to undergo a body scan. Arrive at the airport knowing you will be scanned or else you don't get on the plane.
To all those who are hemming and hawing about their "privacy" being violated by these full-body scanners, I have one simple question: What the hell are you hiding? Honestly, unless you have a bomb stuck in your underwear or shoe or any other article of clothing, or you're stashing kiddie porn in your bag, or you have little balloons filled with cocaine lodged in your large intestine, you really don't have anything to worry about with these scanners. And if your hang-up about this is your self-esteem being damaged, well, you should consider counseling.
Odd that we have absolutely no problem with our service men and women sacrificing their lives fighting for us, but some of us aren't willing to have the outline of their body discretely scanned to ensure safe flights.
This is hypocrisy at it's highest level, at it's absolute worst.
We, as Americans, should stand by our service men and women.
We, as Americans, have to make sacrifices also. I'm sickened that many Americans are completely unwilling to make a sacrifice.
eringobgagh, mine doesn't hang that straight in my pants.
There should be two different flights going to the same destination. One that was scanned and the other one where they just go by the "honors system" and ask if anyones carrying bombs. This way everyone who's bitchin' about being scanned can have somewhere to ride without violating everyone else right to live
I think some here are missing the point.
I have no problem with body scans or pat downs or anything else they can dream up............then again, I don't fly.
The question is how far is too far?
Sooner or later one of these "necessities" is going to push your button.
And I'm not just talking about airports and flying.
would you rather have people scanned or risk falling out of the sky from 30000 feet. tough choice isnt it. if one device is detected it saves 300-400 lives besides who ever may die on the ground.
thanks for the info. I went to the site and saw that my boobs, uki, and guy's wee-wees would show. This is not a solution. This is nothing more than TSA porn. If I am going to be a porn star I want a reduction on the cost of my airplane ticket and baggage fee.
experts say, explosives can go undetected even in a full-body screening if potential terrorists conceal them in body cavities.
"It's definitely not a silver bullet," Carafano said. "There's a way to beat it. It's called a 'booty bomb,' where you actually insert the explosive inside the human being and then you detonate the explosive with a cellphone."
experts say, explosives can go undetected even in a full-body screening if potential terrorists conceal them in body cavities.
"It's definitely not a silver bullet," Carafano said. "There's a way to beat it. It's called a 'booty bomb,' where you actually insert the explosive inside the human being and then you detonate the explosive with a cellphone."
Great air ports will have to hire more cavity searchers to locate the booty bombs.
Whelp! All who have nothing to hide and even those that do bend over for safety! LOL!!!!!!!!!
Seems to be the problem is that these people who want to blow up planes on US soil are coming from different countries now because the airport security in the US makes it impossible to do so now.
Thanks for making my point!
Their solutions, for combatting terrorist acts, are inane.
If they just USED the database they've developed, confirm the person is indeed who they claim to be, along with some common sense guidelines, they would be just as, if not more, effective.
Instead they dream up all these invasive measures, as if the more invasive, the better the chances of nailing one of these guys.............
So what's next? Every passenger must be subjected to a cavity search?
Again, how far is too far?
What's the matter with some of these idiots. I would rather be safe then sorry unless these people who complain have something to hide? I would rather have the full body scan then a full pat down by someone which is worse. People sometimes amaze me, they complain of terrorist attacts on planes but yet they don't want the technology to help save lives. If this full body scan does save lives then go for it. Idiot people crack me up. I say profile all the way! I am so tired of the pussy footing around. We live in dangerous times were innocent people are being murdered by Muslim extremist who careless for life or respect of other cultures and yet our own government is affraid to insult the Muslim world. I for one dont see any Muslim countries protesting in the streets against this sort of act of terrorist. Their just as guilty of being silent and that's how I feel and if anybody out there dont like it to F@#%%&* bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What on earth is with all the feigned indignation? People go to a gym, run around in next to nothing, shower/change in front of each other but can't abide the possibility someone trying to protect them may see an outline of their bodies?????
I'd love to see some indignation by TSA employees who will have to look at some of the people who fly.
Oh, puhlezzzzeeee.......it shows an outline!! If you don't by know that boys have a penis and girls have a vagina, then rent Kindergarten Cop!
As for those suggesting two planes...one for those scanned and one for those not....well what about the flight crew? Are they really willing to sacrifice their lives for those who "don't want their privacy invaded"? Doesn't seem fair to me.
If you don't like it don't fly! It's that simple. There are other ways to get from point A to point B! I personally quit flying when airlines decided to charge me an arm and a leg to take underwear with me! Now that's something to get up in arms about!
For everyone against scanners, the mortician will see your "outline", if anything is left.
I think the answer is simple one. There can be two different planes and two different airline fees. One plane the passengers submit to any and all security checks (minus a cavity search) and pay a lower fare and fly only with other passengers who have submited to the same searches.
Then there can be a seperate plane in which passengers only submit to the search of property and metal detectors. Any passenger who does not want to submit to searches proposed to prevent attacks can happily ride this plane. This plane has a higher fare due to the increased chance of a terrorist attack. Since the plane obviously will need repaired, replaced and be out of service those passengers may as well have to pay for it.
Can terrorist get enough explosives in a body cavity to blow up something other than themselves? I"ve never had anything "put in" any of my cavities (other than food in my mouth), but I know how much comes out and I remember stuff from health class on how things are configured inside.
The good/bad thing about technology, is you can always find technology that renders the previous technology obsolete.
Where there's a will, there's a way.
Hell, we're forever publishing all kinds of ways to "beat" our security measures.
Unfortunaetly, we spend all our time thinking of ways to inconvenience people in the name of safety, while the terrorists use their time to "beat" the system.
There will ALWAYS be a way to take a plane down if one's "will" is strong enough.
Just a thought........how about swallowing the "suicide" bomb and activating it via cell phone?
Silly? Yeah I know.
Possible? Yeah I know.
GOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLYYYYYYYYYY !!
This will solve everything now won't it ?
It'll stop the terrorist cause now they know we are serious?
OR
Will it only cause them to seek another path to terror ??
How long till they abandon the "in air" method and switch to ground based?
They can walk into an airport and still create mayhem and destruction now can't they. Wouldn't this shut down the entire system as well ??
There will be NO OTHER METHOD other than PROFILING that will be effective -
Full body scans are a WASTE of time and TREASURE -- It will only serve to motivate these nut jobs to seek alternate modes of attacks and do nothing more than delay the unfortunate events that we should be able to prevent.
IMO
Guess what's next, America.
FREEDOM ISN'T FREE!
Why "minus a cavity search?" Seems as though the TSA already knows how to beat the new scanner. Why would you surrender to the terrorists who will just stick their bombs in their bum? Why should I have to blow up because you choose to not submit to a rectal exam?
How long will it be before you find your's
or someones nude on" you tube" from some sick TSA employee?
I've already purchased the rights to peopleoflaguardia.com
Send your most disgusting scanner pics my way TSA!
We won't be accepting any pics of teen girls. That's illegal, and frankly I'm shocked anyone would do that on the internet.
hotteensoflaguardia.com
And exactly WHY would any pilot agree to fly a plane with passengers composed of people who didn't undergo any screening?????
And how would this prevent a hijacking and subsequent potential ground-damage?????
Clint,,,so what is your solution to all this?
What we are learning (I hope) is that a plane is a reasonably fragile vessel that can be blown to smitherines with little effort, and even less volume of explosive. What al Qaida is learning is any idiot can be convinced to put a bomb around his waist, in his underwear or up his butt. It doesn't even matter if it explodes or even if it's explosive. The whole point is not to blow things up, it's to increase fear. At that objective, al Qaida has been absolutely superb. And we have played right into their hands.
I imagine the next bomb will be placed in some guy's rectum. While we're getting our requisite cavity searches, the next bomb will be left in the terminal. We'll reduce bags in the terminal, the next bomb will be placed in the parking garage, ad infinitum.
"I don't consider the full-body scanners an invasion of privacy," Adler said. "I think a bomb detonating on a plane is the biggest invasion of privacy a person can experience."
Well said. I'd gladly go thru the scanner if it will greatly improve my chances of NOT crashing and burning. I hear a lot about these so-called "privacy concerns", but I have yet to see a legitimate concern expressed with the new scanners that do not reveal body details.
Where is our common sense?
Thousands of TSA employees have been quietly fired (though seldom prosecuted) for stealing valuables from luggage. These are not reputable people.
I live near Unclaimed Baggage in northern Alabama. These are the people who buy all the "lost" luggage from the airlines, cruise ships, buses, etc. The managers there complain loudly that since the advent of the TSA, they have seen the value of what they buy from the airlines decline steadily. One manager was telling me that they use the x-rays to spot everything from cameras to expensive perfume, then male a boxcutter slit next to the item and remove it. They then change the destination tag on the bag and send it to an obscure airport where it will sit for weeks. The Unclaimed Baggage folks base their prices not only on what the "average" bag contents are, but also on reselling the bag itself, so this screws them in two ways.
Then there is the matter of the "confiscated" items that the TSA claims are donated to the Boy Scouts. The BSA denies this and states that their Charter forbids such donations. If you look on eBay, you can find lots of knives, embroidery scissors, perfumes, etc for sale by the TSA. There is no accounting for the money that these people receive from selling your possessions on eBay.
If this is how they handle your baggage and confiscated items, how long will it be before full body scans or celebrities are available online to answer the age-old question "are they real?"
The TSA is not a group we can trust.
Nothing will greatly improve your chances of not crashing and burning. Currently about 99.9999% (rounded, I know) don't crash and burn. You can't greatly improve those chances.
I have six questions about the non-detail body scanners. 1. Do they give false positives (e.g. pace makers, hip replacements, etc.?) 2. How is the fully nude image turned into a cartoon image? If it's processing within the machine, it can and will be hacked. 3. What is the level of radiation emitted from this scanner? 4. Are there other health concerns, including but not limited to a fetus? 5. Do false positives lead to detention and a strip search? 6. Does it even work if the bomb is placed in a body cavity? Well, we already know the answer to that one. No. The next logical step is the body cavity search.
Let me see.. we've been traveling without incident for all these years and never needed these invasive machines. The system works. And if it doesn't, its ALWAYS the fault of a human being circumventing the system. Like the Indian looking official at Amsterdam who ushered this Nigerian lad onto the plane without a passport and security checks. Do you seriously believe he'd have made it to the plane with explosive traces on him had he gone through the swabs and other checks done at security checkpoints?
Rather than investigate who the accomplices were, and why the system broke down, yet again at an airport controlled by ICTS the Israeli firm which was incharge of ALL airports from where the 9/11 hijackers took off, their only solution is to impose greater restrictions on the rest of us.
This is just tyranny at its best and it's amazing to see the shills in full action supporting this. Better investigate Chertoff's business links to companies that are going to supply these full body scan machines.
@ClintHorace
Pretty much the only inducement I could see to pilot a plane with a bunch of losers who value their privacy more than the safety of others.
As for the person asking for a solution? Well..... other than people's expressed outrage over someone seeing the outline of their bodies, exactly what is wrong with the scanners? Don't like them, find a different method of transportation.
I fly about 8-10,000 miles a month. I couldn't give a rat's behind whether or not someone sees the outline of my body if that means the chances of me getting to my destination safely are improved. I would also guess the majority of frequent travellers would have no objection. I'd suspect the outrage emanates more from those who rarely if ever get on a plane.
You can take comfort in knowing that the only time the use of this machine would be deemed unconstitutional, is if a terrorist needed it to get a "fair trial".
Then I GAURANTEE the question of constitutionality would come into play.
If it was you or I....................................a rectal exam would be performed on the spot, and repeatedly post-arraignment.
The real point is that this is just another gadget happy fix that americans so love.
If you really want to cut down 'terrorist' activity (and exactly how many of these 'attacks have there been?) you'll have to do it the old fashioned way, like the Israelis - professional (NOT minimum wage subcontracters) screeners who are government agents and who are WELL PAID and WELL TRAINED in humint procedures and interrogations.
Of course, this will cost MONEY, and mean TAXES, but if you want the safety you're going to have to pay for it, and pay big time money.
Tom they are government employees right now -
Best bet is Private Sector Security -
Compete on job well done - as opposed to guaranteed job thru government !!
Missing the point folks. MSNBC diverts attention from what the other networks and news media are reporting. Obama is returning from vacation to a scalping party of the security breakdowns at CIA, State and Homeland Security. There is not 1 article in this website that accurately describes the breakdown and the administrative/personnel changes that must be made to stop this stupidity. The reality is, put in a new system and then don't use it properly. The Obama administration is in hot water and MSNBC is censoring the news it dispenses.
Don't worry Sam, MSNBC will touch on it in a couple of weeks.................when they've had time to spin it.
I think airports have become laboratories to see just what or how much we will put up with. Maybe when women have to "present" their feminine hygiene products to prove they are not bombs we will say enough.
joemike404 Unfortunately, there are very few in this entire post that care about what you are saying. Some of the other smarter here are alluding to radiation problems too. Of course, bueracracy does not have the 'budget' to work these problems out before-hand. Sadly, the preeminent concern seems to be a rush to have their 'braunschweiger' photographed to satisfy their feelings of lack of attention.
Did DC know about this Detroit attack before 12/25/2009 ??
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-0MPqHnGYrU&feature=related
If someone wants to scan me at the airport and then post the pictures to the internet, then fine. I have nothing to hide. Besides, all this time working out at the gym will finally pay off.
Let me suggest to Sherri that cameras could also be placed in the stalls of the womens restrooms to enhance security, and appropriate cavity searches by any available TSA officer with suspicion, reasonable or otherwise.
Not everyone makes a living with webcams, but they will be the main economy of Canada. http://www.metronews.ca/halifax/live/article/413749--naked-airport-scanners-to-be-installed-in-11-airports-within-two-months
These things will not keep you safe, period. It's window dressing for people passing though. Sure, let's invade privacy, give up freedoms and dignity so that the corporation that makes these things can get a return on it's lobbying investment. Way to go America! Quit acting like chicken@!$%#s, life is not safe! If you're really concerned about terrorism quit promoting it, that might actually have a real effect!
It's already been publicized that these machines don't indicate material hidden in body cavities. Our next terrorist attack will be the "vagina bomber" or the "butt bomber" and then what....? Are you willing to subject yourself to a cavity search in order to fly?
We react after the fact with more and more invasive techniques used against our own citizenry. The terrorists have already won because we've given up our American freedoms and rights to privacy for the illusion of safety from an agency that is merely window dressing in order to keep us quiet and deluded.
So, the kid was reported as dangerous by HIS OWN father. He paid CASH for a ONE-WAY ticket, and had NO lugagge. And we all have to suffer for the pitiful incompetence of who did not recognize these as RED-FLAMING flags?
Yep, that is the way it goes. Sounds like someone wasn't doing their job
"Yep, that is the way it goes. Sounds like someone wasn't doing their job"
Welcome to modern day America!!!!
Everyone pays cash in Nigeria Roberta because of all the corruption they can't trust the banks there. Kind of hard to make it a red flag when everyone does things that way. I have a coworker who just flew back to Nigeria for the holidays and guess what? She paid cash for the flight.
VegasRage, Did your friends father turn her in saying she was dangerous? And no luggage whats up with that, hell that would make me think twice about this person at check-in. I don't see the problem with paying cash, but the two other things would make me think twice about check this person in.
I don't know where some of the press or some of you are getting your information. It would help if you look at State Department press releases or talk to US Embassy staff personnel such as myself. I do not feel like typing his name repeatedly, so in the following, "the passenger" or "he" is the attempted bomber Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab.
The ticket information revealed that the ticket was purchased in Accra, for $2, 831, with original routing for Lagos - Amsterdam- Detroit- Amsterdam- Accra, but was later re-issued to read Lagos- Amsterdam- Detroit- Lagos at the KLM office in Lagos. The return leg of the ticket was to set at January 8, 2010 out of Detroit, Michigan.
CCTV footage and passenger travelling manifest obtained show that he personally checked in at 8.30pm WAT.
He personally checked in at 2035 local time. The passenger did not check in any baggage but was spotted with a shoulder bag. He went through normal screening and check in process. His passport was scanned, his US visa was scanned and the advance passenger information system returned no objection. He was allotted seat number 20B on the Lagos -Amsterdam leg and seat 19A on the Amsterdam - Detroit leg.
The passenger possessed a Nigerian machine readable passport issued Sept 15, 2005 to expire Sept 14, 2010 with passport number A3921640. His multiple entry US visa was issued in London, UK, on June 16, 2008 and set to expire June 2010.
The passenger presented himself to the various security personnel for screening at the airport. Thereafter, he passed through aviation security comprising of walk- through metal detector and baggage X-ray screening machine.
He proceeded to the boarding gate where he went through secondary screening as confirmed by KLM officials. At the closure of the departure, passenger was confirmed on board, his name was on the post.
Not intended to confuse anyone, but those are the facts at hand.
Ummm...what does this have to do with America?
The flights he started off on both originated from FOREIGN countries (Nigeria and the Netherlands), on planes owned by foreign countries (KLM is a Dutch company). How does America have anything to do with those countries protocols?
Yes the FAA sent screening recommendations to all countries flying to the US, but those countries were not required to follow our rules (obviously).
If you dislike modern day America so much that you would blame us for something we had nothing to do with, you are welcome to move to any other country of your choosing. B-bye!
idiots_around_me, do you think if airport pesonnell were incompetent at their jobs and let this guy "slip" through that it would be admitted to by anyone? Let alone wrote in a report to someone. If I write "I'm the President of the United States" on a napkin, that doesn't make it true.?
I did actually. Costa Rica. I call it freedom from "freedom." I can smoke in bars. Public schools use the phrase 'Merry Christmas' still instead of 'Happy Holidays.' There is an official language and if you can't speak it, then learn it. Taxes go toward health care and education instead of military expenses. Small businesses still flourish and haven't been killed off by corporatism. The new brand of United States' cultural-killing politcal correctness hasn't made it down here yet. No complaints.
In the days since this attempt, I have read numerous posts that contain statements which include 1) "he had no passport" 2) "he had a one way ticket" 3) "he was waived past security checkpoints" 4) "he had no US visa".
My post was an attempt to clear-up some mis-information that has apparently been distributed multiple times and repeated here on the Vine.
He DID have a passport, verified by Nigeria, UK, Dutch, and US governments. He DID have a return ticket, verified by KLM, Delta, TSA, FBI, CIA, DSS, etc. He DID go through two security checkpoints, verified by CCTV footage supplied to the US and containing date/time stamp. He DID have a valid multiple entry US visa, verified by the Dept. of State, FBI, CIA, TSA, DSS, etc.
I cannot discuss or offer my opinion on any of the security protocols put in place after 9-11-2001. I only offer facts that have been cleared for released to the media.
If you still question these Facts, and insist there is some world wide conspiracy to cover-up this attack or to cover their ass (so to speak), I can't help you with that. I would however suggest you seek some psychiatric counseling.
Just saying incompetence is all around and noone admits to it. Just cause it's on paper doesn't make it true. If he would have been run through one of these " nude-o-scopes" (as the first poster called them), this wouldn't have happened. Paper isn't what brings planes down. For all that matters, if he wasn't ok to fly paperwork wise, but ok "no bomb here", they could have let him fly and notified the authorities at his destination that he was on his way. Thanks for the psychiatric advice.
I won't argue with you on the various locations that incompetence flourishes. Reactionary security will only keep "this" type of threat from occurring again, not the next one. Less money on equipment and more spent on intelligence would make us safer. I don't feel these machines are the end all be all fix, and if someone doesn't wish to pass through they don't have to fly. Flying just like driving is not a right, it is a privilege that carries with it rules and regulations. If one does not like the rules, stay home.
HE was also listed on the watch list as well! That is to be checked when you buy one way tickets or pay in cash etc!
And we are staying home. The airlines are hemorrhaging money, flight costs have doubled in the last 5 years, and there are fewer flights coming out of each hub. If we're choosing to invasively search passengers to create the illusion of safety and security, we should at least say it rather than try to convince passengers they are actually safer.
As Carafano of the Heritage foundation says, we still have to worry about the booty bomb. If he knows it and you and I know it, it won't be long before such a booty bomb ends up on a flight causing a new round of more invasive "security" screening. Once I'm naked and being probed by some TSA agent, what is the difference really between the freedoms of a U.S. citizen and those al Qaida are trying to impose on us?
He was on a terrorist watch list. If that isn't a red flag I don't know what is. Nice going, TSA, wave the terrorist watch guy onto the plane and subject the American citizens to nudity on your scanner, including the young children. THAT makes sense. There are a lot of people who don't seem to mind the scanner - do you mind that they let a terrorist watch list guy on the plane???
They're not the fix-all, but maybe better than what's there. Everything is only as good as it operator. "Incompetence flourishes", in all places it seems.
You forgot the tiny little fact that he bypassed security with the help of an "Indian-looking" official. A US lawyer couple witnessed this and explained this on CBS.. But hey, why focus on facts... just fall back on old Stalinistic tactics of declaring all dissidents mentally ill.
You people are all crazy. What about pregnant women? All of that radiation is not good for people. I think you are nuts to let people erode away your privacy. No I don't have anything to hide and I am a good looking person and no I am not a criminal. Right, so are famous people going to go through these full body scans? Are the Obamas? What about Orprah or the Queen of England? I didn't think so. How about we use dogs to sniff things out and only scan the people who arouse suspicion. That should include all people whose names are on some list and all arabs and muslims.
joemike, you ought to be in Congress.
trueblue, your paranoid. The radiation will not hurt a baby...not much anyway.
Losing Freedom, The fewer declarative statements one makes, the less likely they are to look foolish in retrospect. That being said, my knowledge isn't based on "he said, she said" media reports.
Fact 1) The Michigan attorney Kurt Haskell and his wife are under investigation by the FBI.
Fact 2) Kurt Haskell has changed his story twice and is getting more elaborate with every telling.
Fact 3) Kurt Haskell was not in Lagos where Abdulmutallab was security screened and verifiable via CCTV footage.
Fact 4) Abdulmutallab had a connecting flight in Amsterdam and arrived inside the secure side of the terminal. He did not have to, nor did he go to the security checkpoint that The Michigan attorney Kurt Haskell claims he did.
I would not profess to know why Mr. Haskell has made the statements that he is making, or to what he hopes the outcome will be.
I'm not saying the system is perfect and couldn't be improved upon. There is no footage of the baggage scans, baggage that contained a syringe, so Lagos missed that one. The intelligence was there, and not distributed effectively. The T.I.D.E list is divided into many lists, one of those is the No-Fly. The protocol for TIDE is under review and will be improved post haste.
Those are the facts at hand.
k outside of ad hominem attacks, what sources are you citing for your information. Ive long since quit believing the propaganda that the Amerikan Police state issues, and if Im not going to believe a domestic authority, then foreign is not even a consideration. What source do you cite that was actually on the plane with the bomber? Where are the ever present security videos to show the bomber being screened? Where is the intelligence you expect me to blindly accept? The FBI investigating someone who doesnt support the whole cloth story doesnt suprise me, because under the Patriot act the FBI can snatch someone right out of their home and hold them inprisoned indefinitely. Maybe you need to re-examine your position and quit being such an elitist?
these images are far more than "outlines" have you seen the pictures it produces? if someone took a picture of the scan with their cell phone and did a little photoshop work they would have an almost exact render of the naked body complete with all the details. You want your kids submitted to that?
Oh my god! Who the hell cares if they see an outline of your body!!! If you're embarrassed rent a car, take a boat, swim, don't fly. I don't want to get blown up because somebody is body conscious.
I'm glad to know that our body outlines are more important than a bunch of dead bodies strewn across the pavement. Good Job People!!!
Get over it! In this day and age privacy is a thing of the past. We live in a society of tapped phone lines, social sites where pics are world wide in an instant, and all information on anyone is at everyone's finger tips and we're concerned with body outlines. Get real...
If you are so scared that you need to bare it all in an airport feel free to get out of my country. Take you lousy government with you too.
I agree, but there are a couple of inherent problems. As I recall the passengers on my most recent flight, I would have been glad the viewing screens were in another room - yuk! But, there will be those screeners interested in checking out the one or two hotties (male or female) instead of looking for threats. And, I am not convinced full body scanning - with the false modesty concerns of the Criminal Lovers Union and all. If I were in charge of the scumsuckers, I would simply recruit someone willing to insert the explosives or chenical agents inside their "sensitive parts." TaDa - now what do we do??? Cavity searches!!!
Do you read the news Sarge? Do you actually inform yourself of facts or believe the freakin hype.
If you got your head out of your "body cavity" and took one look at one of those photos produced by scanners you will see that they make hotties out of nobody. As the guy said "these are not playboy centerfold photos" and the screeners are in a separate room and cannot actually see the passengers in real life.
I work for the TSA. Trust me. NOBODY is interested in gawking at your body. Quit flattering yourself and get in line to be scanned or shut the hell up and take the damn bus already!!!
IED1,
Darn right, take a bus, train, ship, drive, walk or swim.
IED1, it looks like the old saying, your dammed if you do and dammed if you don't. This is a new world like it or not, there are people wanting to destroy us. I for one welcome anything that can stop any kind of terrorist
Beautiful! Love it! LOL.
Totally agree yvonnemari! What I don't understand is why aren't we canceling visas from "known terrorist supporting countries"? We as Americans were the intended victims here and now we'll be subjected to one more security procedure as a result. I will gladly comply, but must we continue to allow anyone and everyone permission to enter our country?
That is part of the on-going investigation right now. My guess is they'll fix this issue.
Oddly enough, you do actually have to tell (force) government agencies to talk to each other. So you could end up on a watch list at the FAA or Homeland Security but no one turns around to tell the State Department (who issues Visas and Passports).
WDC is a place where you work because of the good graces of someone else. You are not likely to stick your neck out unless you are required to do so (CYA).
Sorry. That's how it works there.
Thankfully your minimum wage ass doesn't own air travel.
Just because the fascists in the government choose to use you to humiliate and embarrass the American public doesn't mean it's going to be the American way.
I'd prefer to live free so I'd walk rather than be humiliated by some punk on a power trip.
What do you have in your bag that humiliates and embarrasses you? Maybe you should leave that kind of stuff at home.
Oh, and I make considerably more than minimum wage. Your statement only confirms your ignorance.
Wow, I never thought I would live long enough to witness the Slave mentality- "We'll do anything just please take care of us!" Yet here it is.
Too bad your masters actually despise this type of behavior.
My point is: so the powers that be mess up and we the American public have to submit to any and everything they say now? It's the principle of the thing!
They are too incompetent to catch the bad guys so we all have to be treated as bad guys now! What's next? Cavity searches? People will submit to them, saying "I'd rather be safe" and "I have nothing to hide".
with new scanners in place, how do you think this would stop someone from overseas? good idea but it only addresses home-grown terror. feel lucky we did not have bodies falling from the skies over Detroit.
There was a scanner at Schiphol Airport when Abdulmutallab boarded for the US. It's just that US-bound passengers are exempt from the screening (yes, a stupid idea, and one that I doubt is long for this world). I am as strongly in favor of privacy as anyone, but come on - this thing doesn't show naked pictures, and even if it did, who cares? I guarantee that to whoever's operating the machine, it's just a line of shapes, day in, day out, some with objects that need to be looked at more closely, most without, period. This is not an invasion of one's thoughts, feelings, affiliations, proclivities or associations - it's an examination of what's on your body, and that's all. I've been through the screening (my hometown was one of the first to get the scanners). It's no big deal, and it WOULD have stopped this terror attempt. What's to decide?
NO, THEY WOULDN'T OF.
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/are-planned-airport-scanners-just-a-scam-1856175.html
Actually the scanners were put out of use because the Europeans valued their privacy more than a false sense of security; it seems they were the ones showing American values more than American themselves.
The unused machines are now going to be put to use on US travelers ONLY. Others will still go through the routine methods of checkup. Says a lot about the iron curtain slowly being erected around our once great nation.
Security or Privacy....Choose one because it's impossible to have both. And it's not like this violates your privacy at home, just when you are travling. Sorry if this is the best way to help stop idiots like the one on Christmas, I'm all for it.
Suda, your point is well taken, we need this everywhere not just the U.S.
As Ben Franklin Said, "Those who choose to give up their freedom for short term security deserve neither".
Ben Franklin is rolling in his grave along with the rest of the founding fathers and Andrew Jackson and Abe Lincoln and Ronald Reagan!!!
If your going to misquote Mr. Franklin to advance your way of thinking, then dont try to quote him.
The correct quote is
“Those who desire to give up freedom in order to gain security will not have, nor do they deserve, either one.”
IED1:
Same meaning, few different words. TightAzz.
Those who desire to give up essential safety for something as trivial as a body outline (which btw is NOT that intrusive) will RECEIVE neither as they will get bombed.
I'm more embarrasing when a TSA agent goes through my carry-on and starts pulling out medications and other personal things than I would be if I was asked to disrobe completely in the security line!
Bodies look either one of two ways: male or female. I think we all learned this in health classes by the sixth grade. And anyway, if in the off chance that someone, somewhere, gets a kick out of an outline of my body, well, fine, I really don't care. Judging by the images I've seen, far more is revealed on any beach in the world.
http://www.technologyreview.com/blog/arxiv/24331/
What the heck is the problem here people! Privacy? Get a life! I'd post my dimensions online if I had a tape measure here! Maybe some young airport security lady or flight attendant would show up to strip search me! LOL! I'd have no problem walking thru one of these! I'll bet the group against it is mostly females! I don't see many guys giving the time on their appearance that women do!
I don't really care who sees what anymore. I am so past it. For Pete's sake people, get real----if I can fly "safe", I'm willing to do anything and if I can do it, everyone else can too! And if someone @!$%# decides he/she is going to put an explosive up his/her ass, and it's not detected, and they get blown up, well, that's just life, I guess. We're fighting a religion here and there isn't very much anyone can do about it. Remember the Crusades? Read your history books and find out more about killing for a religion and how many YEARS it went on and on and on. Terror, as we know it today, is here to stay and all we can do is go on with our lives, don't live in fear and when it's "our time" to go, then so be it!!
IF some guy sitting in a back room watching that little scanner monitor is REALLY going to get off on seeing those nude body outlines-he's got bigger problems than we can help him (or her) with. I'm more than willing to be scanned or patted down if it helps -really helps -make the flights safer. Hopefully by the other countries stepping up their scanning and pat-downs that will make a difference too.
THERE ARE NO PRIVACY CONCERNS HERE...NONE AT ALL!
Anyone who for any reason refuses the total body screen cannot enter an airplane.
COULD ANYTHING BE CLEARER?
We are NOT ruled by ANY minority, regardless of their "issue".
PERIOD!
You are so right .... no search no flight ...
Which would people rather have...the peace of mind knowing they are going to be able to fly and not have some suicide bomber blowing up the plane or their privacy being compromised? Personally I'd let them poke me up the rear end and down my throat if I thought my flight would be safer because of it...
Well, I guess I'd let them do the same as long as my flight was going to be SAFE, not safER.
SIG Heil! We must see your papers!
just like obedient servants, the shills here are encouraging others to obey like the good sheep they are.
hier sind meine Papiere Herr
filup: that will be next; trust me.
Will this scanner be able to pick up material between the skin flaps of a very obese person?
Yeah, let's start singling out fat people, and have them stand on their heads so the layers of flubber roll the other way, revealing what ever may be hiding in there, including yesterday's breakfast.
"Be afraid! Be very afraid" ... the fat terrorists are coming!
lol
No, it won't.
eringobragh, are you saying it won't pick up the material between the flaps?
If a person is really that obese that they have "flaps" they probably are not flying.
Yes. I work for the TSA. A scanner recently detected a bag of dope stuffed between the cheeks of some guys ass. No joke
IED1 was it dope or "Crack"? I know it amazing what people will do.
Who cares if they see through clothes and can see private areas .... better that than getting killed on the plane .... if people don't like it then don't fly !!!!!
that's a good question rick...
The whole point of this is to replace subjective, word-of-mouth reporting with hard, objective data. Why devote countless hours to track down thousands of "leads" on who might be a threat to Americans via the airlines when we can use a machine that could spot numerous hazards and threats that our current line of security measures obviously fail to detect? Tips take days/weeks to investigate; full-body scanners take seconds.
With these machines, it boils down to a small loss of privacy versus a significant increase in safety. Americans are facing these increasingly dangerous threats to their safety (such as plane bombings) partly due to the fact that they continue to exhibit such arrogance and crassness, even in this post-9/11 world; they want to be safe, but not at any cost that inconveniences or embarrasses them. Newsflash: Despite its wealth and power, the United States isn't invincible, and her citizen's cannot expect to be protected without making concessions.
So what's it going to be America? Anger over an image that reveals the outline of your body, or an increase in safety against those people that you refuse to try to understand, who coincidently—for some bizarre reason—insist on trying to blow you up?
The people making the body scanners are pushing hard to get evey airport to purchase them. What happens when explosives are hidden in a body part? Well, they get through, thats what. They need to profile people and look at the root cause, not get sold some images that will intrusively look naked people. I will never go through one, and I have flown over 300,000 miles in the last few years. I will never let my wife or kids go though one either. I work in airports, and this would kill the industry. Anyone who says, "they block out the dirty parts" is an idiot! What happens when the hot girl goes through? Us guys know! This is a risk of flying since 2001, live with it, or walk.
Actually, Michael Chertoff, ex head of DHS who is pushing hard for scanners has his own consulting firm who's clients include manufactures of Nude-O-Scopes.
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=122018593
That's not corrupt at all.
You're a moron for not actually being informed. The scanners produce images that make it IMPOSSIBLE (I repeat: IMPOSSIBLE) to gauge how attractive the actual person behind them is. In addition the screeners will not actually get to look at the actual person passing through in real life.
Hence there's none of your stupid, ignorant concerns there.
But explain to my why the must be a risk? There is technology that makes it safe for all to fly! I'm on with that!! Therefore, there does not have to be a risk!
It's an image.....not a hot picture of some naked person! It's like an x-ray! If you're so smart, and work in airports, you would actually know this! Please get some information before you spout off!
The scanners are indeed missing the whole point. As long as airport security continues to allow people who are on terrorist watch lists to board planes the terrorists will find a way to overcome the scanner. I wonder how willing all these people will be to give up their privacy when full cavity searches become required. And how many of them will allow their children to be subjected to that.
Since 2001 how many times has security failed us due to insufficient technology?
not even once!
you sheep are willing to give up everything in the name of security. what a bunch of fools. you'll also be the first to scream bloody F'n murder when the last bit of freedom is ripped from your feeble little dirty hands. Americans are really a bunch of foolish morons anyway. let them take it you fools. "as the sheep are led down the chute".
You seem to have a thing for sheep! Where are you from, sheep-lover?
would you be happy if I said New Zealand?
Gman---don´t come to the united states you idiot. hopefully you are on the no fly list for being a moronic idiot
What sheeple represent are people willing to do whatever their government says and believes them. I for one do not trust any government body, they are bought and sold by whoever gives them the most money for their campaigns. Now these so called non evasive X-rays, if you believe what the government tells you are harmless, but who did the test? Guess what, the government. Here are some articles facing the safety of such machines, would you send you 2 week old pregnant wife through one? http://arxiv.org/abs/0910.5294
and the whole article http://arxiv.org/pdf/0910.5294v1, why is it so easily dismissed? Because I will tell you someone is getting rich off these machines, at your expense. http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/sns-ap-us-airport-screening-companies,0,4150006.story. I am sure if looked into deeper you would be surprised who owns stock in these companies. If a terrorist want to blow up a plane they will, they have already shown that blowing themselves up is no big deal in fact it makes them a hero and they will "have all the virgins in heaven for doing this". Considering how small cell phone technology has gotten, why not eleiminate all this pint sized phones from the market as this would be one way to detonate a device hidden in the stomach or some other place on the body. How many muslem doctors are there in this country? Could not one of them surgically implant a device? And even with that it could be setup with a GPS or other devised system which would detonate it. Another waste of money, personal freedoms, and health at which our government puts its citizens through. And yes you as sheeple deserve it. I for one will drive, but then again they have boarder check points setup INSIDE the country were there are no boarders. Over a hundred miles into the country. https://www.checkpointusa.org/blog/index.php/2009/05/27/p148 they are actually asking you for papers to get home, not to enter the country, but to simply get home. This people is what this country of paranoids and hysterics has come to. Once they take one freedom away, what is next. And when your car gets stopped at one of these, and you are asked if they can search your car without cause, stop and think, when will it stop, when they go door to door asking to inspect you home http://www.boston.com/news/local/breaking_news/2007/11/civil_liberties2.html.
hey stubb--you are a moron who has no idea of what it takes to make something secure. You are the type that goes around and cries about every little thing--crying and crying and whining and whining. In order to secure our country, somebody may need to tell you what to do from time to time----stop expending your energy crying and whining about it and just do it. If all you whiners and cry babies stopped wasting time with all your crying crap, the government would be able to do its job and not get bogged down by the the conspracy theory crap of not trusting the government. Yes, i agree with you that unfortunately we have some real idiotic politicians that are in some leadership positions within this country, but the majority of us, work hard to make this country secure. If you thnk you are being so violated and don´t want anybody to ever tell you what to, then leave this country. This place is not for you and it is you, you personally that are one of the chips in the large crack that makes this country less secure. Do us all a favor, shut up and get on board with what we need to do to make this country more safe from the throngs of people around this world who are trying to kill us. Wake up--pull your head out of your butt and stop crying about the govermnent.
And while you are at it, lets throw out the whole Constitution. Sounds great to me, where are your papers. This is the reason the Constitution was written. Why there is constitutional law, why we have a Supreme Court. But I guess to you living in fear is part of your life, and the Government overstepping the Constitution is guite alright with you..
Yes, the Sheeple make me want to vomit !
Sheeple - ever hear of the word "RADIATION" ?
All in the name of the Phony "War on Terror" .
I'm with you stubb!! Once this nonsense starts, where does it end?
There is a saying, "believe none of what you hear and only half of what you see."
The government is infamous for lying to its citizens, time and time again. I would be most cautious of these "scanning machines." I don't care what ANYONE says, radiation is a by-product of these scanners and the human body can only withstand but so much radiation before cancers start developing. It may not be right away, but it will eventually happen.
So, for those of you who would scream for me to walk, drive or crawl to my destination...Thank You....don't mind if I do!!! As for you, when you're screaming in pain years down the rode for getting radiated so many times that you're completely eaten up with cancer for simply flying from one destination to another, well...don't say you weren't warned.
If everyone weren't in such an all out hurry to go nowhere fast, there would be no need for this foolishness. Humans weren't born with wings, but you've just got to fly anyway. Anything man-made can and will break down. Terrorists aren't the only reason why planes fall out of the sky. Ever heard of mechanical failure?..or the plane that was brought down by birds? Captain Scully..anyone?
While they're scanning you, be sure to tell them to scan your plane for any potential mechanical defects and tell the birds about the no-fly zone.
Jeania, do you really think that 2 seconds of radiation is going to harm you? Through your clothes? Get some information.
Also, don't forget the planes that are brought down by lightning. Tell "Mother Nature" to get her act together while your plane is airbourne.
LS-415070, people are considered, "frequent flyers" for a reason. Too much of anything is not good for you. Get some information.
Isabella, my husband is a frequent flyer. He's on a different plane practically every day. The amount of "radiation" he'll receive from 2 seconds in this scanner is far less than what he got last year when he had x-rays for his physical! I have some information!
Remember to take your viagra 15 minutes before entering security checks for better photos!
Rich, why don't you return to your 8 shekel/hr job and leave the forum for the Americans?
If the scanner covers up the "naughty bits" then how would they have seen a bomb that was stuffed in a mans underwear? It's bull, the scanners see everything and it is recorded. If something happens on a plane they can go back and see what they missed.
I'm sorry but no matter what you do there are always ways around it. Next someone is going to pull the Denzel Washington and shove explosives up their butt. So everyone will have to bend over at airports after that.
No matter what you do, there is always a way around. The only way to stop it is to stop flying.
"The only way to stop it is to stop flying."
That IS exactly what I have done since 2001 and I am STILL alive. NOTHING is so important that I have to fly to get there. I have learned that America is actually a beautiful place IF your willing to travel by train.
Nuff said........
This whole thing is just a scam. I think the goverment knows this will not stop someone from smuggling explosives up his arse but they do know that this measure will make us dumb passengers feel safe. If they can get a device that looks inside the body cavity...then I would be down with this. As it stands its just smoke and mirrors. We are just as exposed as before...just now we have to pose for the cameras.
Yea, and the trains are probably next....
It shows an outline!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not the actual parts! And lets get this straight....we all know boys have a penis and girls have a vagina!! If you don't, rent Kindergarten Cop! Why so modest?
And how is it going to know what flight your getting on? Airports have central security gates now. So it's not going to know you. It'll be a number!
Yep all this is going to do is give people a FALSE sense of security, while the terrorists find ways around it. Like swallowing the device, surgically implanting the device, or putting the device in a body cavity. Or just blowing up the whole terminal and killing a lot more people.
So now, in addition to a separate line for Muslims, we'll need separate lines for ugly people and beautiful people.
I stopped flying in '92, long before 9/11. I would rather drive for three days than be abused by the airlines for three hours.
I'm all for privacy...but seriously, GET OVER IT. It's just an outline, one of thousands that the operators will see every day. He has no access to your I.D. or address, he wont even remember your face the next time you see him, if you do at all. I am much more worried about safety on board the aircraft as opposed to what someone may see through a full-body scanner. And if im not mistaken, matters of life or death should be at least slightly ...slightly?...more important than issues of privacy? The machines may or may not be able to detect everything, but its the latest and best technology we've got. If you would much rather get a physical pat down, then so be it. But until you can invent something less intrusive and more reliable, stop complaining and comply for the safety of everyone.
Jon,
If it can't see inside body cavities...what good is it? Wouldn't a dog be just as effective? I don't have a big problem with the pictures but this doesn't really fix the problem. If they can just cram the @!$%# in there arse then...game over! We took naked pics for no reason at all.
Next they'd need a large black man to have sex with your wife/sister/mother to ensure they aren't hiding anything in their cavities. He won't know them, their faces would be covered and he'd do it from behind a screen.
Your reasoning would be.. Hey.. that's a natural act; they do it all the time with their spouses and other males, what the hell is the problem having it done for the sake of flying safer.
Morons.
if u prefer full body pat downs or strip searches, i wont debate that.
but this technology is obviously better than metal detectors. and until you can come up with better technology, you might as well comply.
and no one said anything about black men and sex. get your act together and mind out of the gutter.
Privacy? What privacy? With few exceptions, there are only two sexes in the human race. Do you really think you are so special that no one could guess what you look like without clothing. So you have a small penis, or you're flat chested. Quest what, there are millions just like you and no one really cares. We're flying, not having sex.
And, if you think an X-ray image is attractive or sexy, then you've never been in a hospital. We want to stop bombers, and have absolutely no concerns about your privacy. Besides, it's a great way to appear thin if you're over weight!
Somebody here at least has some sense.
But it wont stop bombers if they cram it in their bodies. It seems too easy to beat these scanners. Like i said...they need to come back with this idea when we have the technology to scan inside the body...until then this current method is to easy to overcome. We subject everyone to virtual stripsearches and and the bad guys got to do to beat it ...is cram it in their behinds. This is crazy. The terrorist have truely won.
psmitty: Then we need to up our scanning even more... and also... it is quite difficult to smuggle a bomb inside a body, there's lots of risks involved besides the unpleasantness of having explosive material shoved up your ass.
What kind of risk? Lets say they it surgically installed with a cell phone as the detonator? There are so many ways this scanner can be bypassed. Like i said...show me a scanner that can look inside the body and i'll be all for it. But until then, this is a waste of money and only gives the illusion of being safe. And that my friend...is the reason they are pushing these lousy scannners. Make people safe and the goverment and the airline industry can go on with business.
what a bunch of morons. you will, as they have planned for you to, give up all of your freedoms. Americans are a bunch of weak phony credit living idiots that would give up anything just to get a ride in a hummer or buy a cheap Armani shirt. "as the sheep get led down the chute" you WILL lose all of yoUR freedoms soon enough and then who ya gonna cry to? LOL what a bunch of losers and fat asses. American idiots
no one when im dead cuz of some idiot who wasnt scanned.
where r u from dumdum?
Sounds like he's from the Land of Common Sense, where they Don't Believe Everything the "Government" and "Media" tells you.
what are those freedoms superlogi.. to obey the laws and pay taxes?
EXACTLY! And to be able to have the freedom to dog your government who also gives you the freedom of speech, and freedom of the press, and the freedom of assembly, and the freedom of religion, just to name a few. If you don't like it....LEAVE! And don't let our flag hit you in the ass on your way out.
I was born and raised in Southern California and grew up in Palm Springs, Huntington Beach and Lake Havasu City Arizona. it does not get much more American than that. I also graduated from A military academy and have worked training military and police for more than 20 years. I never let the flag hit me in the ass on the way in or out because I work out at least 5 days per week and keep myself in shape so I do not have the same profile as most of my American counterparts who want eerything in pill form and eat their wat to a big fat ass that not only gets hit by every flag that it walks by but can barely fit thru the door and wants the government to solve all of their problems i.e. health insurance and welfare. Yeah you'll get that but you will forfeit all of the rights you morons keep crying about yet are so willing to sacrifice all in the name of being safe. whatever. Wolf Blitzer will tell you what to do next. Thank you Jeania. you are absolutely correct.
why dont you propose an idea to keep us safe in the air?
first: profile. search the types of people that have become fairly obvious that mean us harm. Lets see how that works.
next: allow no carry ons whatsoever.
I fly more than 120,000 miles per year and would agree with that. just allow one small carry bag or purse that could fit under the seat in front of you and allow people to check and additional carry on size bag. It would save tons of time for check in, boarding and disembarking. yes you would have to go to bag claim. that would be the price for your own safety or they could sreate a way to conduct gate check in for those bags. Of course it would put a lot of worthless care nothing TSA's out of work but they are useless anyway and can just go back on welfare. It costs us about th esame from a taxpayer standpoint but we do not have to contineu to be subject to their incompetence. Some are actually qualified but they ar ethe "exception". Keep them.
the above would be a good start.
Bottom line is that those who wish evil will commit it and it is just a matter of time and method. this just keeps honest people honest and makes it harder for the scum to harm innocent people.
I have mixed feelings about the body scan, in some ways how far are we willing to go having our dignity and civil rights violated. To what extreme's are we willing to go to protect ourselves? How far into our private lives are we willing to let them get in? If we are out in public do we have these rights? Or is it that to protect thousands of people you have to violate the rights of a select few? So where and when exactly do we say enough is enough were not taking it anymore? Or do we?
Chi-Melis: You make a good point about civil rights in America, but remember: the US Constitution only legally applies to one country.
At some point, civil rights in America may have to be violated in order to protect US citizens from those of other countries who don't give a damn about the laws and viewpoints of the USA; not everyone on this planet plays by the same rules.
Let me remind you that those "selective few" blew up two buildings in NYC, flew a plane into the ground in PA, one into the Pentagon...I for one don't like loosing any more rights either, but things aren't like they used to be. You do have a choice here, just stay home and shut up.
let me remind you that every year more people die from a myriad of other causes.. terrorism is by far a distant killer for Americans.. yet we spend the most on it and our way of life is threatened the most by all actions taken in the guise of protecting us from it.
I say let them do what they want. In ten years, we've suffered such minimal damage from this problem that to me it's a non-issue.
There are bigger problems in this country, like illegal immigration and destruction of our industrial base, or the deliberately contaminated food which is causing an obesity epidemic and killing our youth slowly.. I'd rather our tax dollars are used to focus on that.
kattlekween:
I don't have to stay home & shut up. If I have an opinion I have the right to say it whether you agree or not.
I don't agree with the full body scanners. They are invasive. How much radiation are we being exposed to when we go thru? What about pregnant women, cancer patients, etc. who don't need to be exposed to additional radiation?
I haven't flown for over 30 years and don't intend to start now, but I am tired of losing more of my rights daily (due to national security or other governmental reasoning).
At this point, I'm more concerned with the governmental takeover of all of our industries than I am with terrorists. Before long, we will be told what to buy, what career we will have, how many children we can have, and at what age we will be required to have end of life counseling as a means to control governmental healthcare costs.
Soon terrorists won't attack us anymore because we will be worse off than they are. We are heading back to a third world country.
Well then. Do yourself a favor and beat the rush. I'm sure there is room for you in one of their caves.
On the one hand when you purchase an airline ticket you agree to their rules and regulations. Even though I may not agree with the new security techniques, but our society has changed and some things we'll just have to learn to accept. Sometimes I wonder if the airlines were not governed by a federal institution (FAA) would they still be used as weapons?
Lets be sensible.
Being vigilant and ethnic profiling in a time of war are neither discriminatory nor are they extreme measures, and they don't cost a single dime. Of course, for common sense to prevail the bureaucrats who make these decisions would have to believe there actually is a war going on.
I cannot imagine my 78 year old Swedish grandmother stepping into one of those things, nor can I imagine why anyone would make her do that!
Why not simply start using a bit of common sense? The times justify the means. We know who our enemies are and we know what they look like.
Your last paragraph is something that our politicians are not capable of doing. There is no common sense in their body----a prerequisite of being a lawyer and politician (because that is what all of our politician are--a bunch of squabbling crying lawyers who try to twist and spin everything) is having no comon sense whatsoever. Profile people and seach and scan them to the max---if those being profiled want to bitch and complain, tell them to bitch and complain to the muslim islamic ¨brothers¨who are making the situation the way it is for them,
Ron P: The TSA would not hesitate to make your 78 year old Swedish grandmother step into a scanner.
There is also a problem with the normal citizen reporting anything they think is wrong, which is the average citizens has not been trained for what they should be looking for. If you don't like someone you can just turn them in and say they did something, and it's hear say. One thing for sure is times have changed for better or worse. Unless we start standing up for our rights like we did in the 60's we can forget about things once were.
Great, Now you are going to die from cancer instead from all the radiation they zap you with....
I heard you get radiation just from flying
Probably no worse than using cell phones....
Great, does this mean some day I will die?
I need to do my research, but I do recall reading that it's like getting 1000 X-rays. How Stupid are People? No wonder we're in the situation we're in with Obama and the Libs turning us into a Fascist Communist Country.
Great more radiation than a standard CT machine puts out! And I thought I was going to live forever. (JK)
Sorry Jeania, looks like you woke up on the wrong side of the bed again! My love for you is still there.
By the way if you don't like it here in America feel free to move anywhere in the world you want.
" I will even help you pack, just don't come back."
Jeania,
By the way you do get in flight radiation, but it is very low dose.
