URQ is asking what is wrong with witchking, and yet he/she calls this guy a loser without so much as even knowing the person's name. Unbelievable how another human being can be so callous towards another persons hardship. You should be ashamed of what you just called someone you do not know personally. Judge not or let thee be judged!
Um.. I'm pretty sure URQ is calling people that kill their innocent family members losers, not the guy this article is about. I mean, unless you understood and consider it callous to judge murderers.
I couldn't take a dog that's tasted human flesh.
Yeah, I couldn't either; it's too creepy and bizarre. He should have left dog food out for them and then called or written a letter to the Humane Society to come and get them. But then he was mentally ill.
Maybe he wasn't. Maybe he was tired of living in a sociaty where no one would notice he was missing for two weeks. Where were his family, his neighbors? It's so sad. The poor dogs just did what they had to do to survive. If you were with that group of soccor players in the mountains that had to do the same thing, your family would want you to servive. They didn't know any better.
One dog was overheard telling the other dog that it wasn't all that bad, it tasted like chicken.
If they were Rottweilers or Pit Bulls, we would have plenty of posters here screaming to have them destroyed. But since they are cute little pugs, do you think someone will give them a second chance? I bet they would.
I personally dislike the "tough guy" sort of dogs like pit bulls--but mainly because they have gotten such a cachet, they tend to have owners who are idiots and do not give the dogs the requisite attention. Now we have a case of an owner who was so self-absorbed he did not made arrangements for his dogs. And you know those dogs probably loved the guy unconditionally.
What a strange and sad case.
"cute" "little" and "pugs" are three terms that don't go together. Pugs aren't cute and most need to be on a weight control program. Their owners often overcompensate by "rewarding" their cuteness(?) with too many treats.
The dogs were eating dead, rotting meat. People in dire circumstances have done the same thing: think Donner Party and the sports team that crashed in the Andes Mountains. Why penalize the dogs for doing what they had to do to survive?
I wouldn't take the Donner Party as pets either.
Nor the soccer teammates.
Just an fyi, the Donner Party did not eat human flesh. This finding came out last year. Thru DNA testing it was found that 1 member of the party had consumed human flesh and that was a dog. Just an interesting point to ponder. Sorry, I can't remember where I read this article and I am sure to get flack over lack of postive proof. If I had the time I would google it for ya. Dogs distinguish between living and dead flesh.
Circle of life and stuff. I mean, big animals that taste human flesh should definitely be put down (crocs, bears etc), but dogs? Dogs don't have a record of going pathologically violent after tasting human flesh.

No. Living flesh twitches and responds to being bitten (and is warm). Dead flesh is cold, doesn't respond to investigatory nips and stops bleeding after a while.
Dogs might know the difference between dead and living flesh but it sure doesn't stop them from eating dog @!$%#.

Pretty narcissistic of we humans to assume carnivores like our flavor. Although our skin is pretty easy to bite through, and according to health reports a majority of us are well-marbled.

I think dogs have a memory and I think it is a lot to ask from many to have a dog or dogs that have eaten parts of a human.
Hopefully with this being the Holiday Season the 2 dogs will be adopted. It would be nice
if they could continue to be together. Perhaps with kids off for the long Christmas vacation
families will visit the Nebraska Humane Society and adopt the dogs!
I'm going to look now to see if the Nebraska Humane Society has a website now.
Truthfully adopting a dog is inexpensive. #1 you are giving a dog a lifetime home
#2 in PA all dogs will be neutered or spayed before adopted #3 the dogs shots
will be up to date. If you adopt a puppy you will be able to bring it back to the
Humane Society for FREE neuter or spay.
In my area the adoption fee is around $70. You can also get micro chip for a low cost.

Thank goodness they were able to save the cute fellers before the food ran out...then we would have had a three-way tragedy. Little pigs look well fed....

Seems as though these puppies are quite well physically and emotionally.
Its called postmortem predation, and its perfectly normal. I'm surprised this is such a shock to people. Maybe the dude shouldnt have killed himself with his animals shut in the house with him, then they never would have needed to do what they did. And I'm not defending them because they are cute - I'm not even an animal lover. Its just nature..

Are you implying that humans will do the same thing if faced with starvation? Then yes, they probably would. Dying of hunger is an unpleasant way to go. Not that I can think of too many pleasant ways to go.
The survival extinct is far more powerful than most people realize. I would bet that the little mutts held back until it was no longer possible. It's really quite sad. I have been around animals when they have lost a loved one and they do in fact grieve.
I've definitely witnessed an animal that grieved over the loss of another animal, it was undeniable. Maybe if so many people didn't think of their pets as being toys this wouldn't be so disturbing.
While everyone's focused on the dogs, i guess i'm thinking about the nutcase that didn't at least open the door to let the dogs out before offing himself. Geesh! he deserved to be eaten.
