Insurance companies put a price on peoples lives, I think it is on the order of a million dollars. So it seems only fair that we execute those who embezzle more than a million dollars; you steal that much, you've stolen the lifetime earnings of most Americans.

How about congress, draw 10 straws. Bet the rest would finally listen to the people whom they supposidly represent. Better yet make a reality show of it. Would also have some entertainment value.

And we send ours to a plush Fed prison , one w/o fences and bars on the windows!! I like china!!

I don't know if I agree with executing embezzlers of financial institutions. I'm more of a make-them-work-as-night-janitors-at-the-corporations-that-they-bilked-for-minimum-wage-and-no-health-insurance kind of person. They lose everything and have to live like their employees do. And when it comes to tax time, they don't get one red cent back.

I agree with you, many Americans have lost any moral streangth in the name of getting rich and not caring who gets hurt in the process. the criminal justice system needs to change and executions need to be implemented more to deter and simply get rid of the corrupt filth in this country.

people can try and mok china for its justice system but in the end theirs works and the U.S. keeps releasing drug dealers and criminals out of prison because the government cant pay to keep them locked up. I had a lot of friends laughing at me when I told them years ago we were in for a serious crash and that these guys were going to bring the country down. They laughed.

They have and some of these friends now are unemployed and furious about what these people did to them.

This guy was their Bernie Madoff. Madoff should have gotten the death penalty along with a lot of others on Wall Street after their trials are over.

Also, our other criminals should be put to hard labor instead of them being pampered in nice cells with 3 meals a day, gym time, exercise, etc.

Madoff got a life sentance. That's still pretty severe, in some ways more severe than execution. I do believe the death penalty is called for at times (serial killers, rapists, etc), but like I said earlier, the punishment should be proportionate to the crime.

Also I hate to have to be the one to tell you this, but corruption and fraud will NEVER be stopped, the best we can do is discourage them. For me at least, a life sentence and an execution would be equally discouraging. And do you honestly believe that there is less corruption and fraud in China than in the US? The punishment may be more harsh there, but so is the tolerance of other corruption, particularly if it benefits the government.

Financial Crimes do more harm to our society than Al Qaida or the Taliban could ever hope to do. And we threw those guys in jail without a trial and many are still there. WE DID THIS. So your point is moot. As capitalists, violations of integrity should be punishable in the harshest possible way. If money is our god than our god should be honored, or else.

Locking up these guys for life only costs the taxpayers more money. If you are trying to destroy the greater good by ripping society off via fraud or corruption, then honestly you deserve to be removed from society (and not just in prison).

If prisons were harsher on the prisoners, making them due hard labor, work the mines, roads, etc, then I'd be more for that...but right now prisons are a joke.

The "judges" are the most corrupt of all. They legislate from the bench, they breach their oaths, they ignore the Constitution, they lie to juries, they NEVER tell the jury the truth about the rights and responsibilities of the juries.

Do you realize that juries have the absolute right to judge the LAW as well as the facts in the case?

Plebeian you have the best on this topic. Agree 100%. While certainly we should punish corrupt and fraudulent bankers more, China is hardly the model to follow. Even our own government is guilty of some shady dealings, have you looked into WAMU? Some very fishy stuff concerning the Federal government is starting to show up.

I agree that putting corrupt bankers to death is a little severe, however letting them pay themselves obscene "bonuses" for running our economy into a ditch is equally wrong. We need something in the middle where crooks are held accountable and the punishment fits the crime.

Ok, so even if we did take only the punishments China uses and kept our own legal process, it still isn't justice to put the financial crooks to death. I want justice as much as any law abiding American, but to execute these guys is just getting angry and killing people, that's not justice. Our country's punishments are based on the "eye for an eye" idea, and if possible you have to make up for what you did.

If you go cut people up and bury thier bodies in your yard, you get the death penalty. If you do something that isn't so terrifying but in general isn't good for society, you pay a fine or do community service. And in my opinion, if you ruin someone's quality of life by swindling them out of billions of dollars, you should have your quality of life ruined by sitting in a jail cell forever.

And Benet, yes we're capitalists and yes that's the best possible system you could have in a truly free country, but that doesn't mean money should be our god. Bernie caused the fraudulent reporting of those balance sheets, if money was our god, then he violated the integrity of the absolute law of accounting and should be held to an absolute punishment.

In point of fact capitalism is a very flawed system on its own and in many ways is far more destructive to the majority than other systems. This is due mainly because capitalism without humanism is simply another form of societal slavery, only this is much more insidious. When you take humanism out of any system you are left with man's most base nature at work and looking around you can see what that is doing to our children. Over there, the common citizens gets no input. If the government decides what they want to do, they do it without regards to the human and environmental tolls and it's full steam ahead.
