Insurance companies put a price on peoples lives, I think it is on the order of a million dollars. So it seems only fair that we execute those who embezzle more than a million dollars; you steal that much, you've stolen the lifetime earnings of most Americans.
How about congress, draw 10 straws. Bet the rest would finally listen to the people whom they supposidly represent. Better yet make a reality show of it. Would also have some entertainment value.
Now that's what I call justice, I agree that America should adopt that kind of harsh sentencing, look at what these people have done the lives that has been ruined is beyond imagination if you kill a single person they can put you too death what about the millions of lives these people ruined, and worst yet they get million dollars bonuses, the Chinese have the right theory execute them .....
I love the Chinese... in fact they can run over some WS execs, brokers, and elected officials with a tank in Times Square ... how about New Years Eve ... and we can all celebrate by dropping the ball on some.
I don't agree with the Chinese on too many things but they have my vote on this one...
If there is anything the POTUS can gain from visiting China, it's "FRY THE CROOKS!"...oops, that won't work, he'd lose all of his czars...and 95% of congress...
I bet the suits at Ain't I Greedy wouldn't complain about reduced salaries if the other option was a visit to one of China's death mobiles,an RV set up for mobile executions (they put so many people to death the prisons can't handle the load, hence the wicked Winnebagos) !!
Wow! Way to go U.N. The U.S. was kicked off the Human Rights Commission because it wanted the truth to be told about human rights offenders and offenses by commission members like China back in 2001. For those of you that favor executing embezzlers of financial institutions remember that in China they execute political prisoners and sell their organs too. So be thankful we live in the U.S. where we still have the right to free speech. For now.
I don't know if I agree with executing embezzlers of financial institutions. I'm more of a make-them-work-as-night-janitors-at-the-corporations-that-they-bilked-for-minimum-wage-and-no-health-insurance kind of person. They lose everything and have to live like their employees do. And when it comes to tax time, they don't get one red cent back.
I think we've found the answer to our execution problems of murderers, child molesters, terrorist, ect... Send their butts to China. Looks like they have no problems with execution.
The Chinese might show Ohio how to stick a needle in a death row inmate so it does not hurt too bad. No, I think they would chop his head off in a public square and not even think twice about it.
All the comments here are great concerning Wallstreet. Too bad they will just keep stealing our money.
There sure is a lot of difference in culture across the Pacific. If he lived here he probably would have gotten more money but over there he got a bullet instead. Real justice would have been somewhere in between.
Maybe execute corrupt politicians (no thats just way too easy) plus who would run the country, there would be no politicians left ? the boy scouts ? lol lol lol
Obama is embezzling money too. He wants to solve the unemployment problem by throwing $150 billion at it and see if it sticks this time. And people said Bush bankrupted the U.S. Please. Obama has outspent Bush by a lot. But that's socialism for you.
If you meant "trial" - start with Obama - at least Bush and Cheney could prove who the are.
Yes I did mean trial. I 'm sorry, I hadn't had enough coffee that early in the morning. If you are referring to the birth certificate non controversy, the State of Hawaii vouched for the authenticity of President Obama's birth certificate.
A little Chinese oversight on Wall street might help solve the greed problem.
Can you imagine if we had that here during the past few years? We would have Wall street executives lined up from one end of Manhattan to the other end all waiting their turn to be executed.
Including congress and all bankers everywhere. Lets see, all bookies, drug lords, CEO's of corrupt companies like....um Capitol One for example. yeah, whats in your wallet. Thats all they care about.
I don't think they would have even given him a trial, they would have dragged his butt out in-fronto f everyone and parted his head from his body, and the people would be cheering ....
as much as I am not a fan of the death penalty...I find it amazing that other countries will execute executives that have screwed up the financial sector.....and in the US we give them millions in bonuses.
I'm sure if we looked, we'd find what Wall Street did lead to more than a few suicides, deaths due to stress, and people who retired a little early forced to give up health insurance due to the losses, then dieing for lack of care.
by the way, all those execs on Wall Street that are threatening to quit cause their pay has been cut.....maybe we could all help them find jobs in China! might make them appreciate what they have a little bit more....
This is exactly how this country should handle the too-big-to-fail bankers and securities executives who are responsible for the economic devestation in this country. Instead of rewarding them with bigger-than-life bonuses, how about some of this! Also included in this tough-love approach should be the politicians who allow the behavior and practices to continue well after the "bail out." Guess what? Look forward to more of the same this year. Why is it allowed? Because there are no real consequences. Go China.
I for one welcome our Chinese overlords IF they PROMISE to do this to all the Wall Street big wigs.
Im sorry, but these people on Wall Street have basically committed crimes just as serious or worse as murder because they've done it to the world along with making people commit suicide or have to go hospitals due to losing everything they had because of these corrupt individuals. They've put millions of people into poverty who did nothing wrong. They've wiped out trillions of hard working peoples money.
America no longer has deterrents that make people think twice about questionable acts. Now its basically how can I get rich and as fast as possible and the consequences aren't that bad.
I agree with you, many Americans have lost any moral streangth in the name of getting rich and not caring who gets hurt in the process. the criminal justice system needs to change and executions need to be implemented more to deter and simply get rid of the corrupt filth in this country.
people can try and mok china for its justice system but in the end theirs works and the U.S. keeps releasing drug dealers and criminals out of prison because the government cant pay to keep them locked up. How about we just do more executions then the public wont be put at risk. Simple solution to a simple problem.
I had a lot of friends laughing at me when I told them years ago we were in for a serious crash and that these guys were going to bring the country down. They laughed.
They have and some of these friends now are unemployed and furious about what these people did to them.
But the problem with most people in the USA and the world is that they are SHEEP. They have wool pulled over their eyes and never think for themselves.
This was obvious to many people..but the majority refused to acknowledge it.
Wow, lots of fans of communism and fascism on this board. While it's true that greedy captains of industry should be punished when they break the law, perhaps taking them to court would be a better alternative to KILLING them (This is the United States after all). I know, some of the people saying it's justified aren't serious, but some are.
If we lived in a society where businessmen could be executed for fraud, how long before they could chop off your kid's hand for shoplifting? Or throw you in prison for speaking out against the government? Yes, sometimes the system is abused, but in general justice is served (just look at Bernie Madoff, locked in a cell after a fair trial). The punishment should be real, but it should be based on the results of a trial and proportionate to the crime.
You do realize the people they've excuted have been put on trial already and have been found guilty.
This guy was their Bernie Madoff. Madoff should have gotten the death penalty along with a lot of others on Wall Street after their trials are over.
And I wish we lived in a society in the US where businessmen could be executed for fraud. It would instill a business model that would stop corruption and fraud.
Also, our other criminals should be put to hard labor instead of them being pampered in nice cells with 3 meals a day, gym time, exercise, etc.
Oh I'm sure they were put on trial, but by who? By an impartial jury of peers?
Madoff got a life sentance. That's still pretty severe, in some ways more severe than execution. I do believe the death penalty is called for at times (serial killers, rapists, etc), but like I said earlier, the punishment should be proportionate to the crime.
Also I hate to have to be the one to tell you this, but corruption and fraud will NEVER be stopped, the best we can do is discourage them. For me at least, a life sentence and an execution would be equally discouraging. And do you honestly believe that there is less corruption and fraud in China than in the US? The punishment may be more harsh there, but so is the tolerance of other corruption, particularly if it benefits the government.
Financial Crimes do more harm to our society than Al Qaida or the Taliban could ever hope to do. And we threw those guys in jail without a trial and many are still there. WE DID THIS. So your point is moot. As capitalists, violations of integrity should be punishable in the harshest possible way. If money is our god than our god should be honored, or else.
A lot of people here believe in the greater good and justice for those that wrong others.
No one is asking for China's legal system, they want the USA to adapt HARSHER sentences and END GAME scenarios for these crimes like CHINA has.
I saw no one say...HEY...CHINAS legal system rocks and their due process is what we need. They want the same OUTCOME for the same crime.
Locking up these guys for life only costs the taxpayers more money. If you are trying to destroy the greater good by ripping society off via fraud or corruption, then honestly you deserve to be removed from society (and not just in prison).
If prisons were harsher on the prisoners, making them due hard labor, work the mines, roads, etc, then I'd be more for that...but right now prisons are a joke.
I could not have said it better all we want is justice, see when you were not affected and did not lose everything you don't know how it really feels but there are millions of people that had their lives trashed by these greedy people here in America, and no one was held accountable, We don't like the idea of people can do something like that and spend their lives on our dime they should pay with the same value their life ....
The "judges" are the most corrupt of all. They legislate from the bench, they breach their oaths, they ignore the Constitution, they lie to juries, they NEVER tell the jury the truth about the rights and responsibilities of the juries.
Do you realize that judges have no business telling a jury how to find?
Do you realize the judges are only referees in the courtroom?
Do you realize that juries have the absolute right to judge the LAW as well as the facts in the case?
Do you realize that juries have the right of NULLIFICATION?
The jury has the final say, not the judge!
Learn what your rights are before you start whining about your rights!
Plebeian you have the best on this topic. Agree 100%. While certainly we should punish corrupt and fraudulent bankers more, China is hardly the model to follow. Even our own government is guilty of some shady dealings, have you looked into WAMU? Some very fishy stuff concerning the Federal government is starting to show up.
I agree that putting corrupt bankers to death is a little severe, however letting them pay themselves obscene "bonuses" for running our economy into a ditch is equally wrong. We need something in the middle where crooks are held accountable and the punishment fits the crime.
Ok, so even if we did take only the punishments China uses and kept our own legal process, it still isn't justice to put the financial crooks to death. I want justice as much as any law abiding American, but to execute these guys is just getting angry and killing people, that's not justice. Our country's punishments are based on the "eye for an eye" idea, and if possible you have to make up for what you did.
If you go cut people up and bury thier bodies in your yard, you get the death penalty. If you do something that isn't so terrifying but in general isn't good for society, you pay a fine or do community service. And in my opinion, if you ruin someone's quality of life by swindling them out of billions of dollars, you should have your quality of life ruined by sitting in a jail cell forever.
And Benet, yes we're capitalists and yes that's the best possible system you could have in a truly free country, but that doesn't mean money should be our god. If you say money is god and should be respected as such, how are you any different than the Bernie Madoff types? By that logic he shouldn't even be punished at all.
Plebian...(I blame the public school system) my comment was dark sarcasm. Obviously the point I was making is that capitalism is about balance sheets and nothing else. Bernie caused the fraudulent reporting of those balance sheets, if money was our god, then he violated the integrity of the absolute law of accounting and should be held to an absolute punishment.
In point of fact capitalism is a very flawed system on its own and in many ways is far more destructive to the majority than other systems. This is due mainly because capitalism without humanism is simply another form of societal slavery, only this is much more insidious. When you take humanism out of any system you are left with man's most base nature at work and looking around you can see what that is doing to our children. They are starting to kill each other...openly.
Excellent remedy for corruption, I wish we had the same resolve. May be then we would be able to expand our human horizons. I am sure our corporate arm in government will deem this as being a travesty, Listen for who squeals the loudest.
China knows how to run a country!!! We use to think China was backwards, turns out we are the 3rd world country now. Better start learning Chinese because they are growing and we're failing.
That's because they don't have all the "inefficient" sides of democracy to deal with.
You won't like China when they knock on your door to move the @!$%# out in a month because there's gonna have bulldozers to level your house down to make way for a high speed rail line. You have no voice in government: if you oppose, you'll mysteriously "disappear," never to be heard from again.
Over there, the common citizens gets no input. If the government decides what they want to do, they do it without regards to the human and environmental tolls and it's full steam ahead. No input from the common citizens, no NIMBYs to deal with, no labor strikes or safety concerns to worry about, and no need for preliminary environmental research.
If there's a mountain in the way, they dynamite it flat! Going through homes and businesses? Sucks to be you to live/own a business there. Unsafe working conditions? There's billion more where they come from LOL But it sure does keep costs down a lot and gets things done quickly though, that's for sure.
It took us fifty years to connect all the Interstates together. They went from building high speed rail lines across their country from blueprint to startup within FIVE YEARS.
I wonder how many residents and businesses shed their tears that we never hear about?
Ken, that's BS. Read the news, and you'll see that the people speak, and demonstrate, and then things actually happen. I'm not advocating that we adopt their system, but things are changing in China, and we'd do well to pay attention. We might have to get freedom lessons from them pretty soon.
We owe the Chinese a lot of money-this should have been viewed by all the recievers of bail out money. Let them know China wants their money someday! Chris, Barney, Rangel and company should also have been invited.
Sorry, but this guy only stole a few million. When you get to OUR crooks, they steal hundreds of billions. If you steal enough, you get rewarded. Chinese guy's problem is that he did not think big enough!
You know...maybe China has a point. They have been a country far longer than most and have tried lots of different styles. Perhaps we could learn from them.
Take every corrupt financial CEO (AIG, BOA, etc), send them to Guantanamo. Interrogate them and their families. And then execute them. I would predict a serious change in the integrity and health of our financial system...pretty much over night.
I would even go so far as to say that maybe China should set a date and propose that either we pay them back or we deliver to them the Oil executives that used their money to buy Oil. We could clean up that system too in short order.
Outside of that I do think we'd do well if we executed a few senators and representatives when we caught them at some of the shenanigans they do. Would damn sure thin out the lobbyist in a hurry.
Make sure to send out those lobbyist along with those executives. After all, executives can't go to China without their minions to advocate for their riiiiiiiiights.
How about some Chinese-style oversight of Wall Street? Heck, we owe them so much money, we may get the real thing before long.
Yeah, can we send our corrupted Wall Street hoards over to China for execution???? Lets adopt that policy here in the U.S.
I'm starting to like the Chinese.
Are you guys honestly talking about executing people for hiding away money?
Holy crap, settle down. The economy will recover eventually and we can all stop being so grumpy then.
And we send ours to a plush Fed prison , one w/o fences and bars on the windows!! I like china!!
Are you guys honestly talking about executing people for hiding away money?
Umm, yeah!
And we put ankle bracelets on our thugs and make them stay in the penthouse.
I bet Bernie Madoff is thanking his maker he's not in China today !!!
I guess the Chinese aren't so bad after all. I'll chip in for a ticket for the AIG guys who want to quit to fly to China.
I think everyone here would be willing to chip in if we could send all our politicans and Bankers Oh and let us not forget the Traders ......
And who said we all can't get along .....
Maybe it won't be so bad when China takes over...sounds like they would at least clean up Wall Street.
Maybe we should try this with our 'governmental leaders'!
Capture them, Try them, Execute them.
If they don't meet the terms of the Constitution and the oaths they swear - then they can meet God, whether they believe in God or not.
I think we've found the answer to our execution problems of murderers, child molesters, terrorist, ect... Send their butts to China. Looks like they have no problems with execution.
Nor due process. Hate to tell you but not only the criminals get killed in China.
Yeah, and thirty minutes later, you're hungry again.
Yep, no bleeding hearts there ......
The difference here in the US is that the criminals are the governmental 'officials'.
The Chinese might show Ohio how to stick a needle in a death row inmate so it does not hurt too bad. No, I think they would chop his head off in a public square and not even think twice about it.
All the comments here are great concerning Wallstreet. Too bad they will just keep stealing our money.
We can learn a lot from China. China executes them, our Financial criminals get even more money.
Ten bucks says those doing the execution are just as dirty, though I certainly agree with sentiment about actually holding wall street accountable.
There sure is a lot of difference in culture across the Pacific. If he lived here he probably would have gotten more money but over there he got a bullet instead. Real justice would have been somewhere in between.
Yeah, in between the eyes.
Maybe some AIG people should look to China. How do you say Enron in Chinese?
I thought AIG was largely a Chinese-owned company.
Enlon..................sorry, had to do it.
lmao
Maybe execute corrupt politicians (no thats just way too easy) plus who would run the country, there would be no politicians left ? the boy scouts ? lol lol lol
I think Bush and Cheney should be put on trail first.
Which trail do you want them to take?
bill-765872
Yes, I can go for executing our politicans ... Both parties ...
Minan59 - trail to where?
If you meant "trial" - start with Obama - at least Bush and Cheney could prove who the are.

Madoff picked the right country to scam
Most definatly. He would be be dead now if he was in China.
I don't think they would have even given him a trial, they would have dragged his butt out in-fronto f everyone and parted his head from his body, and the people would be cheering ....
No wonder China is prospering.

Well stated
Maybe it'll be a good thing when China forecloses on our mortgage.
yes, because having a foreign nation, that has an abysmal human rights record, tell us what to do is such a good thing.

It's sometime difficult to tell sarcasm from extremism on these boards.
Survey's indicate that many conservatives don't think Colbert is joking.
I'm voting for any person with a Chinese surname that appears on my ballot.
Yang Yanming Jr. here for duty.
We might have to get freedom lessons from them pretty soon.
we need americans to grow some balls
I think we need to outsource our court system to China.
We owe the Chinese a lot of money-this should have been viewed by all the recievers of bail out money. Let them know China wants their money someday! Chris, Barney, Rangel and company should also have been invited.
Chinese justice is swift and punishment is swifter.
I'm guessing that's a swipe at Bush and Cheney.
Outside of that I do think we'd do well if we executed a few senators and representatives when we caught them at some of the shenanigans they do. Would damn sure thin out the lobbyist in a hurry.
Killing politicians would thin out lobbyists? That makes absolutely no sense.
Make sure to send out those lobbyist along with those executives. After all, executives can't go to China without their minions to advocate for their riiiiiiiiights.
Sounds like a fine idea. When do we start?
I believe many think the time to start has passed already by 1 year.
