Actually, I'll have you know (It's not your fault though, since in the news, it is said the complete opposite) that the troubles in France recieve only very little influence from religions, such as Islam, and is MUCH more, if not solely an issue of ethnicity, class, and recognition of work from immigrants. I would know very well, I was there during the main events that made news around the globe. The issue being that the society and the governement gave very little notice and treated basically like @!$%# the first generation immigrants from ex-colonies such as Algeria, and thus, those fairly calm and reasonable people were replaced after one or two generations by youngs angry about their place in society and the little recognition they have in the eyes of the governement.

At first, that part of society did not exist in the eyes of the public, they were fairly oppressed, had very little pay or job opportunity, and it would have continued on if not for the - I must admit way too violent but - necessary "rebelion" of that class, which finally gains recognition, and for which people are finally fighting for.

I agree that interpretation of Scripture is key. Many current "interpretations" take Scripture out of context and in doing so, create "contradictions". If the cultural context is preserved, contradictions do not exist.

An example of taking Scripture out of context is your own citation of Exodus 22:18. The witches are condemned to a "spiritual death" as "to put to death" refers to being "cut off". Violence is not part of the ramifications for any type of spiritism. The articles you cited are examples of people who are ignorant of the cultural context.

Ken Driessen, it's been my experience that law-abiding decent folk, don't get shot 50 times by police. They also don't have their property taken, get falsely arrested or any of the other things you describe. Actually they are ALREADY set up in England, even though they have very vocal opposition from members of the public. This was tried in Canada not long ago as well. The difficulty is because of those same Jewish Orthodox family courts, which already exist here. Since there's one for the Jewish faith, there is technically no basis for denying one to the Muslim faith, otherwise the government can be accused of discrimination against Islam. I would imagine Britain had the same issue. I'm not sure how we managed to strike it down here.

In my opinion, there should be one law of the land that applies to everyone. If a certain religion wants their own laws, then the religion can go ahead and enforce them on their own. But we cannot allow the religious laws to override the country's laws. If it's illegal to beat another person, then it doesn't matter what the religion says. If you're in Canada, then Canada's laws override the religious ones. The only way the beating would be allowed is if the people of Canada agreed it should be, and the Canadian law was changed accordingly.

Thank God we have the 2nd Amendment to protect us against an abusive government forcing Islam (or any religion) on American Citizens. The first step in establishing any totalitariangovernment is to disarm the public. Freedom is something you fight to the death to keep. Yes but opinion does not make fact. What I ask is fact. That the writer says that this or that person supports the application of the sharia law in the US, fine, I may believe it if it' from a fairly known, recognized and respected institution, from which we know that we can have real facts.

But, here, first off, a news institution of which I have never heard. Now, in and of itself, that is fine, I had never heard of the Assyrian International News Agency either. BUT, when the writer talks in such horrid terms as these, only quote very shaky sources, and doesn't even quote the persons in themselves, allow me to be very skeptic about the truth of the article.

I once saw an article very critical of the Obama administration on the Newsweek website, which itself is fairly renown. That doesn't mean I took it for truth, and, you know why? Because in the author section, the name Karl Rove was written.

While she and her family may be christian, they are living in a country that operates under a different religious "law." The people that convicted and punished her are NOT Christians and do not worship/believe in the same deity that Christian's do.

Now, on that note, and excuse the teaching here. While other religions have a different name for their deity, the translations/meanings all boil down to one term; God. It isn't that we worship/believe in different gods, just that different religions have different names for the one God. Unfortunately, many religious people haven't figured that one out as yet.

Ken, I will also add to the list. While you may believe your, er, colorful versions of normal words make you look educated, it does just the opposite. You are going to get more respect and more people will isten (or in this case read) your opinions if you use somewhat normal language. You are using the Russian spelling of Amerika and while you may think it is making a point, you are being disrespectful to the very country that allows you to write the way you do.

Europe and the New World went through this thing called "the Enlightenment" whereas the Islamic world has yet to do so. Unfortunately, instead of doing the same, many of them are still scratching their heads wondering how it is that they, (once the most accomplished and educated people on the planet) were so badly overtaken a couple of centuries ago. It really doesn't matter what anybody's sacred scripture supposedly says, so please don't quote the Qu'ran, Bible or Torah--it's whether or not people are willing to live in the modern world and interpret their scripture as thinking people do.

As for the claim that religion is inherently lame, nobody who lived through the 20th century can still believe that atheism (Marxism, fascism, and other atheist movements) is necessarily a real improvement. The problem isn't belief in a Supreme Being, it's mindless fundamentalism. A fundamentalist Marxist is as dangerous as a fundamentalist Muslim.

The United States (fundamentalist Christians) have been responsible for a great multitude of deaths around the world. Though these days it's difficult to determine what our fundamental religion is. We're so convoluted and perverted about our own beliefs (or lack of beliefs), yet we criticize and condemn others for theirs.
