Here we go again. Stabbings have long been a problem in Japan. There was a student in Germany who went on a rampage in his school armed with an axe. Predictable response? BAN EDGED WEAPONS!

I would love to see our leaders wake up and get off their platforms for a second to look at addressing the real problem, which is VIOLENCE of any kind, not the tools.

Unfortunately we have reactionary leaders who will most likley look at this as an opportunity to buy some votes with a quick and pointless law that adds some kind of ID requirement to buy knives or something. Policies that address real issues take time to implement and may spread the credit around to other politicians, or (GASP!) even members of other parties. If we want "change" we have to start with our legislature.

But then there would have to be an agreement, or even and acknowledgement that there really IS a problem, and then the problem would have to be defined, to ultimately create a follow up that addresses and solves the issue as it was defined in the first place. As an educator I can tell you that will NEVER happen b/c it's to LOGICAL to attack the issue in said manner.

Besides, show me a place where politicians and/or administrative heads (superintendents, school board members that aren't EVEN educators, mayors, governors, up, up, etc.) can call a spade a spade and I'll be looking at a place that isn't in America.

Condolences to the mans family. Good thing that in Texas the execution table also comes in junior sizes...

The teachers in Tejas should be allowed to pack some heat, as well as some lunch.

My cold, shriveled, conservative heart aches for this guy and his family.

    Fry the kid. Tommorow.

Contemporary liberal education administrators will probably suggest having the punk write "I will not stab and kill my teachers" 1,000 times on the black board after school.

    Yes, I said black board.

      AWC

I live in Texas and this story is heartbreaking. My son was attacked and stabbed on the school bus home from school last Wednesday. Fortunately the stab wounds came from a pencil and were not life threatening. If they had been 4 inches to the right my son would have been stabbed in the neck, and who knows what could have happened. My son is just starting junior high and I gave him some lessons on what to expect. All the races get along in elementary, not so in JH and HS. I didn't know an incident would occur so quickly. The funny thing is the racial issue. My son is white the attacker is black and a friend of my son and a witness is Indian/Muslim. The incident was caught on tape, including audio, and the story my son told was confirmed. The perpetrator admitted what he did to the Principal. The boys father talked to the Principal and the detective handling the case and accused my son of making racial slurs to his son, as if that's an excuse for aggravated assault. The father was shut down in his tracks. I guess he wanted to see if it would stick. I picked up my son after the attack at his mothers house. After evaluating the injuries and the circumstances I called the police. My son gave a sworn statement and included the name of his Indian/Muslim friend. I got a call the next day from the boys mother and she tried to tear me a new one for allowing her sons name to be in the report. I tried to explain that her son was a material witness and she was asking my son to perjure himself, she didn't care. I told her she needs to learn American law. That went over like a fart in church. Needles to say I told my son to stick up and support your friends, but I'm not sure about this one. While this Indian/ Muslim ladies response may be idiosyncratic to her I don't think she's trying to be part of the community and poorly represents her community to me. Americans are supposed to stand up for what's right and not be so absorbed in themselves.

Some of the kids from John Tyler HS said this student had just returned to regular school from the alternative school so evidently he was a discipline problem. What I wonder is why he would stab a Music teacher. That would be an elective subject so if he didn't want to be there he could leave the course.

Why: Why: Why: Did you ever play today's video games. That's one reason why. Of course you would never learn anything violent from a T.V. set. Maybe they learn to be aggressive from the Prayers they have in Schools. OOPS I forgot the ACLU had them removed. What do you expect from a kid when all they see is violence and turmoil? We are a product of our environment just as a plant flourishes well in rich soil and may perish in poor soil. There actually was a time when the daily news wasn't about violence or death every single day.

Blaming a kids violence on video games or tv is a cop out, the real blame lies on the parents and the school administrators that knew this kid was dangerous and did not take the appropriate steps to either get the child where he could get help or at least be controlled. This educators blood is also on their hands!

This kid had just been released from juvinille hall after a 2 year sentence for beating his sister, he had been a constant disapline issue, and yet the family says that there were no warning signs? Give me a break! I feel students that are clearly a risk to the other students and faculty be removed and sent somewhere where they can either get help or be controlled, leaving these students in classrooms is just asking for trouble.
