The U.S. cuts all non-humanitarian aid to Honduras over the ouster of President Manuel Zelaya, making permanent a suspension imposed after he was deposed in June.
U.S. cuts non-humanitarian aid to Honduras
Seeded on Thu Sep 3, 2009 1:43 PM EDT (msnbc.com)

Let's see. The president was violating the constitutionand trying to setup a scialist tyoe of gov't with himself as perpetual president. apparently our gov't liked the idea.
your a fool or a birther, tea bagger, right wing extremist or may be all of those.
You have added immensely to the quality of the discourse - NOT!
Yes, wait! "I hate President ____— (Bush/Obama) but can't bother to think to explain why!" Is that what you were trying to say?
Wow, i would never know what Robert is. Oh wait, that's easy, an idiot liberal.
Resident obama doesn't want to meddle in Iranian affairs when it comes to an anti-American tyrant maintaining power. Now, we have an anti-American tyrant removed from power in Honduras and obama finds the need to meddle.
Anyone see any contradictions here?
Damn...the birthers, tea baggers and right wing nutters are out in full force today!!!
True, in this article, Robert. But trust me, you can find their counterpart, the left wing 'why are we in Afghanistan?!?!' nutters out in force on other threads. Thinking and discussion seem to have gone by the wayside for now.
...and lets see, they're going to have an election soon, and that person will take over in January. So basically, it's 6 months w/o aid to prove we're idiots.
They're out in full force on most days like a pack of hyenas.
Why do people always get nasty and start insulting and degrading when a fact that is tangible and easily checked is presented.
The ousted president was nearing the end of his term with no reelection option. He was trying to forcibly change the constituion of the county to allow himself to remain in power as the president. The countries congress voted on ousting him, then sent the decision to the supreme court for ratification or refusal. Then turned it over to the military who peacefully removed him without bloodshed, then immedietly turned power over to a democratically appointed civilian. The new appointed president will serve until a free and democratic election is held. It appears all very legal and free democracy to me, unless someone can add any reasonable facts other than "tea bagger, or racist etc. try something intelligent. I was to believe this is the very form and manner of government the USA supports, not forced dictatorships and military rule like Chavez or Castro. Is there any reasonable argument or fact to contribute or change here other than hate spew???? Why does the USA no longer support free democracy???
Take a look at the Coduct of Mr Obama, Notice any similarities?.
By the way you left out the part where A plane laded in Hondurs from Venzuela carrying the ballots that the president wanted to use , they were partially filled out.
BO, gets very upset if you cause the plans of his quasi socialist friends to go awry.
Brian,
"Now, we have an anti-American tyrant removed from power in Honduras and obama finds the need to meddle"
Do tyrants generally "forcibly change the constituion of the county" through a public referendum?
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/8123134.stm
"Mr Zelaya's removal came as he pressed on with plans to hold a non-binding public consultation on 28 June to ask people whether they supported moves to change the constitution.
This would have meant adding a question to the ballot papers for November's presidential election on setting up a body charged with redrawing the constitution."
"Anyone see any contradictions here?"
Standing by the rule of law regardless of the political ideals of those involved is not contradictory. It just hasn't happened enough for people to get used to it. Eventually people will learn that the law is not supposed to change based on personal political loyalties.

"TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras — Honduras' newly appointed leader vowed Monday to resist pressure from across the Americas to reinstate the president ousted in a military coup."
http://topics.nytimes.com/topics/reference/timestopics/people/z/jose_manuel_zelaya/index.html
"Leaders across the hemisphere, however, denounced the coup, which United States officials had been working for several days to avert"
Sounds like most of the western hemisphere agrees with our government for a change.
wow! I've never seen so many shills and government debunkers on the vine. The Obama disinformation crew is up late. Why does the rule of law seem so repugnat to the current administration?
Here's the change offered by Obama ----- transform our government into one that embraces the Marxists principles and ideals of Chavez, Castro, Morales and their ilk. What happened to respect for constitutional democracy? The ousted leader was attempting to subvert the Honduran constitution and was stopped by those that respected it. Now Obama and his fellow travelers on the left seek to punish those that stand up for the rule of law and oppose socialism. Our present US government is a disgrace to the principles of freedom and justice upon which the country was formed.
Hondurans have a fledgling of a democratic government in that it hasn't been around for all that long. What this president was threatening to do was against their constitution and governances, really a flagrant disregard for the values and laws he was supposedly elected to enforce, believe in, and help safeguard.
Some may not like the military's response, how they dealt with this as there were other options... but it is not in any way, shape or form WRONG to respond with zero tolerance for his attempted DICTATOR actions.
America could learn something from this... not singling out this current administration, but actions of it and past administrations. No one intervens, nothing is done as our supposed representative government does what benefits it and big money and does not listen to it's constituents or hold true to platforms that politicians ran AND were elected on... we just keep taking it, turning the other cheek. Back and forth, blue and red.
Cutting aid to the government is akin to cutting aid and the throats of the populace... same result as the government will take it out on it's people before suffering financial loss itself; VERY similar to how our own would and has reacted.
It just sounds nice to say "we're not cutting humanitarian aid".
And, above all, our government SHOULD support Hondurans' response to this trampling of rights AND denounce the Honduran president's attempt at being dictator in charge. Unless, of course, our government has something in common with him.....
For once our government is not supporting the illegal removal of an elected head of state in Latin America. Congrats to our President for seeing through the clutter, and standing with the rest of the world in support of democracy.
For those of you who prefer military coups to elections, how do you call yourselves Americans?
First reply. Great. Robert-538508, you're suspended for a day for violating #1 of the Code of Honor. Do better.
G Scott ... re: Do tyrants generally "forcibly change the constituion of the country" through a public referendum?
To my knowledge G. Scott, tyrants generally do whatever they want, whenever they want, and however they want to whomever they want ! ... in this case,
a) a forcible attempt to hold a referendum when told it was not approved by Congress and was in fact illegal according to the constitution
b) forcible seizure of ballots for the referendum that had been seized and held by the government in an attempt to prevent the referendum from taking place under the dictatorial orders of a President gone off the deep end .. the ballots, incidentally, were printed by Chavez in Venezuela, and were pre-marked to ensure a majority ... Zelaya, and a motley band of supporters, forcibly removed these ballots from a warehouse ...
c) a forcible attempted dismissal of the army general for failure to follow the President's demands to oversee the referendum, when the army was adhering to the law iand refusing not to do it ...
d) if any further evidence is needed of tyrannical behaviour, you may also want to consider some of the acts perpetrated by this idiot since he was escorted to Costa Rica, like sending 1000 paid Venezuelan and Nicaraguan thugs into his own country to stir up what he feels is "support" but is in fact nothing more than violence, and disruption, to an otherwise peaceful country ... and what ex-President in his right mind would so frantically be lobbying the US to financially strangle his own country just so he can "return to power" for a period of 5 months ?? ... has anyone asked why this is so important to him ? and what he intends to do in those 5 months? make sense to you ? or you, Bob in Sanra Monica ? ...
it doesn't make any sense to 80 % of the Honduran population who do not trust this man and are fully prepared to withstand any hardship to keep him, and therefore Chavez, holding any position of power here ...
the US can keep their Visas and their aid, and continue to act like total meddlesome fools for another 3 months, as it appears that their typical American arrogance is preventing them from just admitting that they made an early, and totally erroneous, judgement call on the situation here ... information based not on fact or direct observation, but on false information filed by their own Ambassador to Honduras, Hugo Llorens ...
military coup ? de facto regime ? forcibly removed in pajamas? ... garbage, but great media fodder ! ... those of us on the ground here know full well it was an orderly and legal transition of power ... and citizen Zelaya, after being stripped of his office by his own actions, was arrested as a private citizen faced wth criminal charges and escorted to Costa Rica to protect his own life ...
incidentally, Llorens, the State Department's primary source of information in Honduras, just happens to be a buddy and business associate of Manuel Zelaya ... and now, during this so called crises, he's decided he needs a holiday ... or is the State Department relieving him of his duties while they check out his credentials, and try to sweep this false crises under the oval rug ? ....
wherever he went, and for whatever reason, we in Honduras are hoping that he'll stay there ... but will we rescind Visitor Visas to Americans who love vacationing in our beautiful country ? ... no ... we're not that immature ...
I see the Obama State Run Media is once again trying to confuse the public.
It was not a military coup, the democratically elected congress ordered the military to escort Citizen Zelaya out of the country for his own protection, some coup.
More lies from Obama's lap dogs in the media.
NObama in 2012.
Bob .. really hard for me to understand why you are still making comments on an issue you know absolutely nothing about ... maybe to fill in the idle time ? ... try studying the Honduran Constitution instead ... please
Why? Honduras was always a Unites States allied, Honduras has stopped the expansion of Hugo Chavez, how Unites States wants Honduras to violate it own Constitution? Article #233 Any President that try to run twice his term it will be automatic removed. Now with this it will increase the poverty in that country, more people will try to come here, Honduras is not an island, it will bring consequences to the rest of the other countries.
Why don't the government suspend aid to all countries for 1 year? Use that money to fund what this country needs which is about everything.
Because they are more important.....
'cause Obama needs to prop up his 3rd world dictator buddies.
Honduras host an Unites States army base, from where cotrols the drug trafficking from South America, to cut aid to Honduras, it will have a negative impact to Unites States
We know that hang on we'll vote Obama out shortly and make Hilary and Bill live with hin in chicago
Maybe Havana would be a safer locale for the Obama's to retire to? They would be among friends and fellow travelers there.
NObama in 2012.
Really difficult to determine the correct position. If one believes in the Constitution (of any nation) he must side with that document therefore the correct thing happened in Honduras and we should stand behind their decision to oust a potential "Chavez". Of course, if the aforementioned document is only a stumbling block to a totalitarian socialist based government, let us do every possible thing in our power to support the deposed government, we are doing it in our own nation why not in others such as Honduras.
Count on Obama to support an illegal power grab ala Hugo Chavez...maybe he is laying his own groundwork.
Making no sense, Pete.
Actually Derek, if you would pay attention to what's going on at the White House, and who Obama is surrounding himself with, Pete could be exactly right. To bad everyone doesn't do their own research to learn things on their own, instead of listening to the glossy news organization on TV.
Nice try, but eh, no. There are plenty of things to pick on Obama for that don't make a person sound idiotic, paranoid or psychotic. Like Hugo Chavez power grabs. It makes someone sound like a dope and a moron to say it. I can find countless arguements against Obama (oh, and yes, Republicans too) that are semi-intelligent. Unlike the arguement about a 'power takeover'
Psychotic Libs hated that Bush got elected for a second term. Psychotic Cons can't live with Obama. Thinking people learn to live with both and get what they want done, anyway. Get off the ledge.
If Barak does not watch out pretty soon he will be classified as Jimmy Carter, a good man but inefective
Derek,
how many Czars has Obama appointed?
how many of those Czars answer to anyone other than Obama?
how is ObamaCare not a power grab?
how is Obama's comments on a national police force "equally equipped" as the military not an indication of his planned power grab?
Obama appoints a self proclaimed communist to Green Jobs Czar, how is that not an indication of what Obama really has planned for america?
What about Obama's diversity Czar's plans to shut down talk radio by demanding diversity in radio station ownership?
Obama has spoken many times about being able to shut down the internet under whatever situation he decides meets national security requirements, no power grab there?
Census being handed over to ACORN, this will mean massive fraud and guaranteed redistricting to the advantage of liberals, no power grab there?
Obama sucks up to Chavez, hangs a banner of Che Gueverra in his campaign headquarters, kisses the hand of a muslim king, we should over look all these as non representational of the man?
NObama in 2012.
You know, I don't understand why you can't be against Obama with reasons that make sense. Where are you getting your information from? You are not unlike the insane liberal who thought the country would implode when we elected Reagan. Sure, you are on the opposite side, but your rants are just as filled with nonsense. Plus, I can see from your posts below you keep going off the deep end. Learn to convince people about conservatism instead of yelling at them with reasons that are not factual and make no sense. It really isn't that hard if you think about it.
240 million so far in Non-Humanitarian aid?! I wonder just how much of our tax dollars they are receiving in total? Holy @!$%#e! How about some aid for the families in America. This country is effed up
Hell Yes! I wish we'd cut aid to a lot of other countries who act assinine.
Derek .. on what basis do you classify Honduras as a country who acts "assinine" ... Hondurans happen to think the shoe is on the other foot ... it is the US that is looking like a fool ... and I have to smile when the media continues to label us an "impoverished nbation" .... no bailouts of banks going on down here ...
Obama didn't hesitate to give Hamass, excuse me, Palestine nearly a billion dollars, and they're only shooting rockets into a neighboring country. Of course they're muslims and not christians like the majority of Hondurans, not that Obama is a muslim...........
NObama in 2012.
Obama's support of the ousted would be dictator is disgusting and with every day that passes this administration stench gets worse....Honduras should shut down our base in protest and denounce Obama for his Marxist support of Zelaya..
Yet another post from someone who makes no F**ing sense. There are plenty of things to pick on Obama for that do make sense, so why do you have to post something that sounds paranoid and psychotic?
2047fg I was thinking pretty much the same thing, about shutting down the base in protest. Or maybe Honduras should up the rent. And no worries, 2047...I understood your post.
2047 is correct ... and Derek just try to put yourself in the place of a Honduran right now .. of course we're feeling paranoid and psychotic ... because the current actions of the US are based on false information ... and we find this totally inexplicable ... unfounded ... incredible ... and mind boggling ... please take a minute and read the articles in this link, which may give you a better and more informed perspective of the situation here ... they tel the true side of the story ...
http://www.world4honduras.com/
of particular interest to your point of view is the Chris Burgard article entitled "Honduras: a truth stranger than fiction
H Sorrenti,
Good luck with that. Trying to get an Obama supporter to use logic and facts is a pipe dream at best. Derek has already convinced himself that Obama can do no wrong, that is the only way he can sleep at night knowing that he voted for the Socialist in drag.
NObama in 2012.
Captain Marvelous doesn't know his facts. Go on and wrongly speculate. H Sorrenti is trying to make sense at least. You just need to see a psychologist. Please, do it for us conservatives who have brains.
this administration is scared that the idea of the people telling them what to do will cause a revolt in this country.this health care is just a smoke screen to keep you from paying attention to the other things that they are doing.
There's no revolt happening. Just like there wasn't one when Bush was elected for a second time. You may want one, but it isn't happening.
Bravo Derek! Stole 2 elections and our Judges one the supreme court helped it along and our elected officials said nothing. This country needs an uprising.
No it doesn't. And if it did, it would have already happened. That's why all this anger from either side is a lot of hot air, and an indulgence in people liking the sound of their own voices.
An uprising would be stupid, led by the stupid.
Derek their is one ,it just is not going to happen right off or with a gun but at the voting Boothe. It well start with the Dem and Reps losings to independents and libertarians. In short 2 thing well happen, one party well die or a 3 party make it in.
Some how News-Vine posted 2 times this post was the same as the one on top.
Fidel Castro= Chavez= Ortega= Zelaya = Hillary Clinton= Obama= Jimmy Carter ???
Could this be Possible??? Back to the Future??? A repeat of the 70's with Carter giving away the people who support the US, the middle class of Latin America???? The only thing that was achieved in Nicaragua in the 80's was to reach the levels of Economic Development of Haiti thanks to the Communist rule for 10 years. After 15 years of Democracy the communist manage to win (with only 38 % of the vote) an Election by blackmailing and stealing the votes, one time in 2006 and anothe time in 2008. copying the actions of the National Socialist Party of Germany (NAZI) in 1932.
Now, the actual USA Govt wants to put back in power a potential Dictator Manuel Zelaya supported and financed by the lovable and Charming Dictator of Venezuela Hugo Chavez,
Then what? the USA will put in Mexico the leader of the Socialist Party Lopez Obrador as President in the next Mexican Election???? According to him, He, Lopez Obrador is the President of Mexico.
A President swears to protect and defend the constitution of his Country. Manuel Zelaya violated articles 3,236,339 of the Constitution of Honduras, which clearly states that no President can promote or try to get reelected. Inmediately he looses his citizenship and his public position and has no inmunity.
The Chief of the Honduras Army received an ilegal order of the ex-President Zelaya to help Zelaya to getreelected. The Chief of the Honduras Army refused to execute such an order.
The Supreme Court of Honduras gave the order of arrest and expel from Zelaya from Honduras
How many people wish that the German Army had done the same to Hitler?
For those concerned American citizens about the Actual Immigration problem in the USA,
we are back to the 1980's.
If Zelaya is returned as President to Honduras, the prestige of Chavez and Fidel Castro will go way up.
Next you will have a Lopez Obrador getting money 10-100 M USA dollars from Chavez and winning the election of Mexico 3Â years from today.
Obrador lost the last Election by only 1%. 35% vrs 36% which is the percentage that President Calderon won, only 36% of the total vote . Obrador is the Candidate of the Socialist Partyof Mexico.
Â
It is not only Honduras that is in the Balance. It is Mexico that is being gambled.
Now try to guess how many Millions of Mexican Refugees we would get in the USA if a Communist regime similar to the one in Cuba takes over in Mexico. Cuba has a population of 10 million. Mexico has about 120 MIllion.
100 miles of deep sea separates Cuba from Florida. The USA has a 2000 miles open borders with Mexico
Do not misundestand me, having been a political refugee, I am pro Immigration. All I am doing is thinking of the consequences of not supporting MIcheletti in Hnoduras
Â
to: Ferando gonzalez: Adolif Hilter=Francisco Franco=Benito Mussolini=Richard nixion=Ronald Regan=George w. bush ????
The USA Presidents could not be dictators. First they had term limits , at most 8 years, Second they could be impeached. Third they did not build Gulags, or Concentration Camps. They may have wanted to get the power of a Stalin or a Mao Tse Tung, but that is speculation.
Try to impeach Fidel Castro, o tell him that 1 term of 50 years is enough.
Better you could say
Adolf Hitler=Francisco franco=Benito Mussolini=Josef Stalin= Mao Tse Tung
These were quality Dictators who killed quite a lot of their own Citizens, Hitler 20 millions, Stalin 30-40 Millions, Mao 40-50 Millions??
Nixon,Reagan,Bush were not in that Super League at all
Where is the outrage by the liberals in this country. The only people hurt by our taking away of aid are the poorest. Honduras is very poor and we will only make things worse by not helping. If you have ever been in Central America it is like the US in the 30's. People do not have reliable electric, water, or food supplies and we take away aid. Shame on us!
Read the article, Missionary. Its non-humanitarian aid we are taking away.
THE FRIENDLY DICTATORS
Meet the Friendly Dictators - three dozen* of America's most embarrassing "friends", a cunning crew of tyrants and corrupt puppet-presidents who have been rewarded handsomely for their loyalty to U.S. interests.
Traditional Dictators seize control through force and often are self-styled "Generals." Constitutional Dictators hold office through voting fraud or severely restricted elections and are frequently mouthpieces for the military juntas which control the ballot boxes. Both types of dictators are covered here, along with a few tyrannical kings. but don't look for "enemy dictators" (communists and the like) in this. These are America's allies, strange and undemocratic as they may be.

yikes
What does that list has to do with Honduras? How many Dictators are now in Latin America? Let us see
1-Fidel Castro with 50 years and going on, you could do an advertizing of the "Energizing" Rabbit with Him
2-Hugo Chavez, already changed the constitution of Venezuela to reelect himself for ever if possible. At least he has a dream, he wants tobe like his Hero Fidel Castro. 50 years or for life.
3-Daniel Ortega trying to change the constitution of Nicaragua trying to reelect himself and his family and the new oligarchy for a life time by bribery and counting the votes by himself and blackmail and usiong storm troops to beat up Human Rights organizations
WHat other potential Dictator ??? AH !! Manuel Zelaya had the same dreams. BUt the Hondurans did not not share his dreams. Send him to travel and do International tourism on the Chavez Jet, and Chavez money . That what friend are for.
Michelleti ??? The actual and real President of Honduras. Crazy guy is trying to run an election supervized by any international organization that wants to go the 23 of November. Is he trying to keep power forever? . The idiot wants to give his hard earned position to whoever wins in that election. Honesty or Idiocy? Good citizen or future greedy Dictator? One thing I know for sure the 6 of January he will give the Presidency of Honduras to whoever wins in the Election. For me he is a Hero and that why most of the Presidents of the World are against him. Giving a bad example. Shame on him!! Allowing somebody else to be President!!
Fernando ... you're right .. Micheletti is a hero and personally, I think he should receive a Nobel Prize for what he's doing for the people of Honduras ...
Now is the time for people who support freedom and democracy to plan your vacations to come to Honduras. The little country that stood up for its constitution and rule of laws. Maybe this country will have to continue to 'go it alone' with determination and the strength it has all ready demonstrated in opposing the want-a-be Dictator Zelaya and Venezuela's Chavez. Honduras is standing on its own without support, just as other countries have done, to establish its Freedom.
Castro is right, the ideas have been planted in Venezuela, Nicaragua, Argentina, Ecuador that they too can get rid of their dictators - but now they know for sure to not dispose of a dictator outside of their country.
What a mistake the world outside of Honduras has made.
If you are realizing of all the freedoms you have lost in the US come on down to Honduras and be free.
Expat, you make it sound so inviting! Still, I don't know if I could be well off, or rich, or not have to work hard, what with so many in poverty. But then, that's just me. My wife asked where I wanted to live when I retire, and I said, "India". "INDIA?!?!" She credulated. I said, "Yeah, downtown Calcutta." Looks though like it may be Peru instead, or Israel. Dont know yet. I do know that if the US ever turns it's back on Israel, I'm emigrating. The US won't be a safe place to live.
Learn Spanish and go to Honduras or Costa Rica, there in both Countries you will see Democracy in Action
here we go,,,,another mass exodus of poor starving Hondurans, coming straight to America to live off the welfare state, since their poverty stricken lifestyle, will surely be affected if they stay.
Honduras is 5 millions people, USA can absorb them
Mexico 120 Millions Can USA absorb them???
What welfare State? No id No social Security number to work you go!
Try it. Try to get welfare or work without ID or Social Security Number, You will get the real dirty Jobs
The Obama administration is, if anything, naive. They turned their backs to Honduras not because they opposed the ouster of a Chavez ally, but because they rather piss off one small country than the rest of the Latin American Governments and that way try to keep good relations at least in that part of the world.
But it was a no-win situation from the get go. If they supported Honduras, the Latin communists (that's what they are, let's not kid ourselves, ok?) would claim that the coup was a order from the US. If the US doesn't support Honduras, the commies will say their plans were foiled and the US is trying to save face and the commies will turn the whole mess into a victory for them.
Here's where the words of JFK of supporting any friend no matter the hardship would come into effect. But instead of doing the right thing, regardless of the consequences, Obama took the easy road.
And for those thinking that the non-humanitarian aid doesn't cause problems, let me explain that this aid is used to build infrastructure such as roads, drinking water, hospitals, schools, etc. This investment has a multiplying effect in the economy which has helped many Hondurans improve their standard of living. Hopefully the US will be willing to increase their humanitarian aid now that many Hondurans won't be able to buy food or medicine. Way to go Barack!!!
Well said, Ferd. I wonder if there's a way to find out where we can purchase items made in Honduras. Of course, I would be in favor of that if we could know for certain we weren't just enriching the already rich, but meeting the needs of the poor.
200 mil. per year? stop all foreign aid now!!!!!!!!!! we are borrowing money to give to these countrys.which will cost us and our children for many years to come. we have enough starving americans that need help.
Obama and the communist liberals are on the wrong side of history, freedom and democracy with this one.
The president of Honduras attempted a coup just like Chavez perpetrated in Venezuela. Zelaya had essentially overthrown the constitution in order to make himself president for life. So, as expected, President Obama, friend to terrorists and dictators, will punish Hondurans for wanting freedom and democracy.
Obama prefers to show support to the leftist governments than to the people trying to stay away from them.
I will say it again experience counts. And our president is lacking it.
I will say it again experience counts.
and cheney/bush had it????
Robert.
No. They did not have it either. Chavez is the one with the experience here and he just got a new puppet.
you??
I don't care for chavez at all...will not buy citco gas...but I don't think he has done any thing illegal...may have rigged a election, don't know on that but bush rigged one also in 2004 in Ohio.
No Robert, do not be naive!
President O.
The others are Ortega, Morales, Zelaya, Corea, and others that cannot wait to oppress poor countries.
ask Alice ...when she is 10' tall !!!
Robert
will not but citco gas. wow. YOU ARE MY HERO.
but you are helping Chavez by using drugs.
You are on cloud 9
you don't know me so like all your post show your just full of lies...what cloud are you on, are you on drugs? I don't know you so I will ask. Are you on drugs?
where is Alice.............I don't know her but she could be at a tea bagger party or may be at a birther meeting...you just never know with those right wing nutters.
Obama does not have experience but he inherited the mess that Bush and Chenney made in Latin America. Thaks to them Chavez is in Venezuela and Ortega is in Nicaragua.
They were more worried that their friends made money and let them steal everywhere so they were not minding the store.
Zelaya didn't break the law. He wanted one section of the constitution changed so he would be allowed to stand for election again, and so he sought the approval of the electorate through a referendum to do it.
The group that ousted him at gunpoint definitely did break the law. No seeking the approval of the people there either; just send in the troops.
You can't run a country like that.
There was to be a presidential election in November anyway. What really happened is that the coup clique believed the people would not only say yes in the referendum, but vote Zelaya back in in the election.
This is not of course what you're hearing from your right-wing-rabble-rousing talk show hosts, who would no doubt like to see the same sort of thing happen in the U.S.
JohnCarter.
Just send in the troops! are you stupid or something?
Because of people blind and fanatic like you is that we will never agree or live in peace in this world.
You are really far from understanding what is really going on in Honduras. I am not going to be the one trying to convince you because to me you are either too young, inexperienced, blind or simply not worth.
Go back to your transformers boy.
That's what the coup-leaders did. They sent in the troops to depose the President.
JOHN CARTER You are qa paid shill for Chaves or you are married to Zelaya's sister.
The Hondurans have been there before with people like Zelaya. The constitution of the Honduras specifically states it is illegal to try to modify the clause., on term limits.
Zelaya was told by the Congress he was illegal, he went to the Supreme Court and the Supremce Court told him he was illegal, he ignored contress and the Si[preme Cout and told the Military to pass out the ballots, the military knew that the ballotsa had come in on a plane fron Vensuela and the ballots were partially filled out when they got there Zelaya removed the head of the military, the Supreme Court reinstated him.
A trial was held in the congress and a impeachment was order by the congress and approved by the Supreme Court, The Supreme Court of the Honduras issue an arrest warrant for Zelaya, He was given the option of standing trial on the charges or leaving the country, he chose to leave the country.
The Military arrested him and the temporary president was placed by the congress and approved by the Supreme Court, No coup took plaace he was remove dlegally and only the actions of Chavez and Obama have kept this going

The supreme Court of Honduras says that Zelaya broke the law. The electoral College of Honduras says that Zelaya broke the law. The Congress of Honduras says Zelaya broke the Law. What do you want ? The bishop CAntenberry and the Pope to tell you the same ??
John .. you're so off base, it's not worth trying to respond, other than to say dead wrong .. and don't comment on an issue you know nothing about ... and if in doubt, come on down and check it out, like many members of Congress have now done ... and check out Senator DeMint's findings on youtube.com, or if you really want to know the truth John, go to World-4-Honduras.com for the true side of the story ... then I may be interested in hearing your viewpoint ...
The right-wingers like to talk about the constitution. There is no conceivable constitution in which deposing the president at gunpoint is legal, and asking the population for their opinion is illegal.
John ... read the Honduran constitution, clause 239 ... a President can be automatically and immediately stripped of his office for attempting to change the constitution ... Zelaya did this to himself on Saturday, and ceased to be President in the eyes of the law ... the next day, citizen Zelaya was arrested, under orders from the Supreme Court, and escorted out of the country by members of the armed forces, who are naturally armed, as they are worldwide ... there was no gun held to his head ... and he did not leave in pajamas ... totally amazing how the entire world can be duped by believing the words of one pompous ex-president, who also happens to be a liar and a thief ... incredible ...
Interim President Micheletti deserves the Nobel Prize just for putting up with the ignorance and the insults and has the entire expat community of Honduras, numbering in the thousands, solidly behind him, including me ...
Very true H. Sorrenti. The governments actions against Zelaya were entirely constitutional, unlike his own decisions. I just commented below your post from my personal experience in Honduras last month...
Read the constitution, I did it is 100% percent legal
I recently visited Honduras (August 2009) and was able to observe the political situation first-hand and conduct informal interviews with several Honduran citizens. Essentially, the country is actually VERY peaceful, contrary to the propaganda that many news providers share. I was never in any danger, never saw an abnormal police presence, never witnessed a political debate, nor were there any riots even though I landed in the capital city where most of the "coup" is supposedly occurring. From my discussions with the Honduran people, I learned that most of them believe that their decision to dismiss President Zelaya was entirely according to their Constitution. Their Constitution states that any president attempting to change the Constitution should be removed from office and treated as a traitor (imagine how the USA would treat a president who attempted the same feat). Zelaya was aware of this mandate but deliberately chose to ignore it, even though he was warned by the Supreme Court of the land and by the military. Many, if not most, of the people in his own political party opposed Zelaya's attempt to change the Constitution. He was deliberately opposing the just law of the land and supporting a communistic regime. Pray tell, why would the United States of America, the country which was born upon a desire for freedom and a hatred against dictators, the country that was started by men willing to die in order to uphold the Constitution, the country that supposedly supports independence and democratic governments...why would we be opposing ALL of these basic and essential human rights in the beautiful country of Honduras?! Could it be that some of the leaders of the United States are being ethnocentric, dogmatic, and egotistical? Surprise, surprise....
Our government needs to grow a backbone and stop following the dictators around. Honduras did what all countries should do and that is uphold the law and prosecute the ones that break it even if it is the President. However they should have put him and the ones helping him in jail and prosecuted them. NOT one party here has the balls to do that. Think of how many from both parties here would be in the slammer if we had the same kind of guts they did in Honduras.
