oh for heaven's sake- these are hardly short-shorts. the title suggests the first lady is parading around in 'daisy dukes'. they are standard 4-5 inch inseam, mid thigh, conservative shorts. when you are tall, your legs look long (trust me i know!) and her legs look great and she looks fit and healthy, and actually very all-american.

Wow.... I mean seriously! It like people are just looking for drama in the white house!! God forbid she be comfortable in 100 degree weather!! Ridiculous!!!!

When the First Lady starts dressing like most people do on commercial flights, then I'll be worried. She's on vacation and dressed appropriately. Let's worry about the bigger issues - economy, etc.

I was just watching the today show and a guest said that the first lady should not have gotten off airforce one in shorts and allowed herself to be photographed by the press corps. Really, have we come this far in this world that the first lady can not be the woman she was before the title.

People, this is do dumb, she is an active mother, she was on vacation in yellowstone where it was 106 degrees, i dont care who you are there is no way that even the president wasn't regretting wearing pants that day.

Michelle Obama should be congratulated that she is not a stuffy politically motivated spouse of the president. When she is doing first lady "duties" she has always drissed appropriately.

Get over it already.

Leave the first lady alone; this is too ridiculous to even talk about. We all need to get a life and care about those things which are really important like providing health care to 47 million people who desperately need it.

I think it is absolutly ridiculous that this is even being discussed. Michellle Obama is HUMAN and a PERSON with a life like anyone else. What about her being first lady entitles people to take away her right to wear a pair of shorts in the summer with out being harrassed about it? I personally have to laugh at the situation, this topic shouldnt even be on the news. I think its embarrassing for whoever decided to comment about the damn shorts to begin with.

For heaven's sake, she was hiking the Grand Canyon in 100 degree heat. What was she supposed to wear, business suit and high heels? People need to get the stodgy pictures of Hillary and Barbara out of their minds. Mrs. Obama is not breaking any fashion laws. She's just secure enough to wear what she wants and she always looks great. Nothing I've seen her in has been out of line for a First Lady. Who was the idiot who thought she was wearing short shorts?

This is making way too much news coverage! People need to just let the president and his family be a real family! All of you passing judgment should shut up and worry about real issues not whether or not you agree with the shorts that the first lady desides to wear, while on vacation no less! People... GET A LIFE!

Those are not short shorts. This is what being a modern First Lady is about, being comfortable, an independent woman with thoughts of her own.

I'd much rather see a first lady in shorts than a woman vice president in hunting garb field dressing a moose. Perhaps if we stopped trying to create a quasi-royalty-environment around the first family, there would be more space for news that matters. Who cares what Barack or Michelle are wearing? Is that really the measure that counts?

This is probably one of the biggest waste of internet space i've seen in years. The grand canyon+ vaction+114 degree weather= Shorts! I understand she is the first lady and to some extent we expect her to be perfect to the t but we need to quit holding people up these standards like she is supposed god or something. Underneath the title "first lady" she is a person just like the rest of us who would like to be comfortable on vaction especially when it is 100+ degrees outside. I personally commemorate Mrs. O for not being the typical, figid, stuck up, unispirational first lady we have all come to know and love.

Get over it. You wear shorts don't you. She is a human being if you pinch her she is going to say ouch. If you cut her she is going to bleed just like you. Michelle you go girl you have pretty legs and you have the right to wear whatever you want. Except don't come out naked. (LOL)

If you live in AZ it is extremely hot. We have 109 temps at this time of year and shorts are about the standard. Anything else would be uncomfortable. If you disapprove of the 1st lady wearing shorts come to AZ in the summer and you'll change your thoughts about this.

For Petes sake, what century are we in?  It is very hot, she has a really nice figure, and the shorts were not short-shorts.  Give the lady a break, her family is a breathe of fresh air. You go girl !!!
