My father too was a Director and very respected by his coworkers, because he did take his coat and tie off and roll up his sleeves and did attend picnics in shorts and jeans. His coworkers say that he was one of them, got down in the trenches with them and did walk around like so many "Directors" with a stick up their ass. Respect is earned, not given just because you hold a title.

Anyone who has ever traveled to the Grand Canyon (esp. in Aug.) knows how blazing hot it is. Really, people, she also has two young children with whom she seems to enjoy playing and spending time. I think, as many do, that Sarah Palin's "soccer mom look" hurt the Republican Party a great deal. I do believe that Americans did vote for a change, however I do not believe it was for a clothing or image makeover. I thought the change we needed and were looking for in our new president was in spending, and he seems to be failing in that area. Welfare reform would be a change as well. A change of clothing would be acceptable if it was a change for the better. I agree that the First Lady image could be a bit more updated, but there is a difference between comtemporary clothing and common. There are millions of options for a waman in such a position. She simply doesn't have taste, and often times it appears that she is dressing to spite. Again...not a good role model. If your definition of achievment is SOLEY based on the almighty dollar, than yes, I suppose they have. However, my family doesn't have a lot of MONEY, but we are more RICH than any of those families. My husband and I have been together for more than 20 years, unlike those "high achievers" who are on their second or more marriages.

We have achieved more than they will ever achieve because we have children who appreciate what is IMPORTANT in life...which is not money!!!

The important things in life have NOTHING to do with money or appearance.

Regarding the President and his family going on vacation or using Air Force One , face it people, nobody raised an eyebrow when Bush had his ranch home entirely re-done at taxpayer expense because of security needs, or when Bush would fly out constantly on Airforce One to his Texas house. The fact that Bush never wanted to vacation anywhere else or go out on dates with Laura does not now define what Presidents can or cannot do. Plus, the trips that the Obama's have taken are working vacations where the President has been holding town hall meetings in every state they've stopped.

It is ILLEGAL for them to travel any other way! Imagine all the flights that would be delayed or cancelled if the first family had to travel commercial each time they went somewhere not "approved" or official US business. It is common knowledge in the DC area, but this word needs to be spread. Presidents and their families CANNOT fly any other way other than by Air Force One. It is for security reasons for the President and for the American People! He can run the country from Air Force One. If he was on a commercial flight and there was an attack on our country, he would be unable to perform any of the vital duties that keep us all safe!

You have failed to properly represent the facts and your argument lacks merit. Class you say? She's got more class than most women will EVER have. Some can't spell it. Class is not about the clothes. Class is about the individual and their behavior. You can be all dressed up and have no class at all by being rude, unruly, or disrespectful; acting in a unseemly manner. That's the problem with people. They think that if it's all dressed up it's good, it's proper. Not necessarily. Value what's important: the character, the disposition and the demeanor of people. No more days of judging from the cover. That's an institutionalized mindset. Look at the whole book. Read it. You might like it.

Lady, I couldn't agree more. Mrs. Obama was taking the opportunity to fit a little family time "down time" for herself and her children into what what essentially a business trip for her husband. Those shorts were completely decent--they might be even be called "mom shorts." It's just that with her legs they look uncomfortably good for some people's liking. Too bad. I agree whole-heartedly. Don't these people have something more constructive to do with their time. "Ozzie & Harriet", "The Beav" and Donna Reid are all gone now, and we don't have to dress like those moms, Thank God. I would "Kill" (jes kidding) for Mrs O's toned body; she's worked hard for it; I haven't. Leave the woman alone and let her do her soccer mom thing, but more importantly, do things with her kids.
