I have come to the conclusion that a world run by women instead of old men, white or in beards would be a safer and more prosperous place for us all. Life expectancy will solve this problem eventually, but perhaps not in my life time.
Imagine how Ahmadinejad would react if it had been his daughter killed by that fatal shot. There is a double standard here to no ones suprise.
I agreed with you until you brought race into the equation....
...and Obama has gone silent. Not much of a leader. More of a follower of those striving for freedom.
CWBY777,
I get PMS BAD, but I would not be a threat to national security, with my "hand on the button--"
What a ridiculous comment.
CWBY777 - Your comment shows exactly how little you know women. I sure hope you are not married and if so, I have nothing but the greatest sympathy for her.
A world run by women would just have different problems than what we have now, not less. And as cruel as it sounds, sometimes violence is a necessary evil. We're a species with no natural predators. Every action taken by anyone will have positive and negative effects on something.
As for the women in Iran, this might sound a little out of line, but I've seen a lot of HOT women coming from the footage that's being taken over there. Yowza. Go Persian hippies.
WHERE IS EVERYONE?
Ma’ariv (Monday, June 22, 09) by Ben Caspit and Ben-Dror Yemini (opinion) –
Tell us, where is everyone? Where did all the people who demonstrated
against Israel’s brutality in Operation Cast Lead, in the Second Lebanon
War, in Operation Defensive Shield, or even in The Hague, when we were
dragged there unwillingly after daring to build a separation barrier between
us and the suicide bombers, disappear to? We see demonstrations here and
there(in U.S) but these are mainly Iranian exiles. Europe, in principle, is
peaceful and calm. So is the United States. Here and there a few dozens,
here and there a few hundreds. Have they evaporated because it is Tehran
and not here?(in israel)
All the peace-loving and justice-loving Europeans, British professors in
search of freedom and equality, the friends filling the newspapers,
magazines and various academic journals with various demands for boycotting
Israel, defaming Zionism and blaming us and it for all the ills and woes of
the world—could it be that they have taken a long summer=2 0vacation? Now
of all times, when the Basij hooligans have begun to slaughter innocent
civilians in the city squares of Tehran? Aren’t they connected to the
Internet? Don’t they have YouTube? Has a terrible virus struck down their
computer? Have their justice glands been removed in a complicated surgical
procedure (to be re-implanted successfully for the next confrontation in
Gaza)? How can it be that when a Jew kills a Muslim(in his defence usually), the entire world boils, and when extremist Islam slaughters its citizens, whose sole sin isthe aspiration to freedom, the world is silent?
Imagine that this were not happening now in Tehran, but rather in israel.
Let’s say in Nablus. Spontaneous demonstrations of Palestinians turning
into an ongoing bloodbath. Border Policemen armed with knives, on
motorcycles, butchering demonstrators. A young woman downed by a sniper in
midday, dying before the cameras. Actually, why imagine? We can just
recall what happened with the child Mohammed a-Dura. How the affair (which
was very harsh, admittedly) swept the world from one end to another. The
fact that a later independent investigative report raised tough questions as
to the identity of the weapon from which a-Dura was shot, did not make a
difference to anyone. The Zionists were to blame, and that was that.
And where are the world’s leaders? Where is the wondrous rhetorical
ability of Barack Obama? Where has his sublime vocabulary gone? Where is
the desire, that is supposed to be built into all American presidents, to
defend and act on behalf of freedom seekers around the globe? What is this
stammering?
A source who is connected to the Iranian and security situation, said
yesterday that if Obama had shown on the Iranian matter a quarter of the
determination with which he assaulted the settlements in the territories,
everything would have looked different. “The demonstrators in Iran are
desperate for help,” said the man, who served in very senior positions for
many years, “they need to know that they have backing, that there is an
entire world that supports them, but instead they see indifference. And
this is happening at such a critical stage of this battle for the soul of
Iran and the freedom of the Iranian people. It’s sad.”
Or the European Union, for example. The organization that speaks of
justice and peace all year round. Why should its leaders not declare
clearly that the world wants to see a democratic and free Iran, and support
it unreservedly? Could it be20that the tongue of too many Europeans is
still connected to dark places? The pathetic excuse that such support would
give Khamenei and Ahmadinejad an excuse to call the demonstrators “Western
agents,” does not hold water. They call them “Western agents” in any case,
so what difference does it make?
To think that just six months ago, when Europe was flooded with
demonstrations against Israel, leftists and Islamists raised pictures of
Nasrallah, the protégé of the ayatollah regime. The fact that this was a
benighted regime did not trouble them. This is madness, but it is sinking
in and influencing the weary West. If there is a truly free world here, let
it appear immediately! And impose sanctions, for example, on those who
slaughter the members of their own people. Just as it imposed them on North
Korea, or on the military regime in Burma. It is only a question of will,
not of ability.
Apparently, something happens to the global adherence to justice and
equality, when it comes to Iran. The oppression is overt and known. The
Internet era broadcasts everything live, and it is all for the better.
Hooligans acting on behalf of the regime shoot and stab masses of
demonstrators, who cry out for freedom.
Is anything more needed? Apparently it is. Because it is to no avail.
The West remains indifferent. Obama is polite. Why shouldn’t he be, after
all, he aspires to a dialogue with the ayatollahs. And that is very fine
and good, the problem is that at this stage there is no dialogue, but there
is death and murder on the streets. At this stage, one must forget the
rules of etiquette for a moment. The voices being heard from Obama elicit
concern that we are actually dealing with a new version of Chamberlain.
Being conciliatory is a positive trait, particularly when it follows the
clumsy bellicosity of George Bush, but when conciliation becomes blindness,
we have a problem.
The courageous voice of Angela Merkel, who issued yesterday a firm
statement of support for the Iranian people and its right to freedom, is in
the meantime a lone voice in the Western wilderness. It is only a shame
that she has not announced an economic boycott, in light of the fact that
this is the European country that is most invested in building
infrastructure in Iran. She was joined by British Foreign Secretary
Miliband. It is little, it is late, it is not enough. Millions of freedom
seekers have taken to the streets in Iran, and the West is straddling the f
ence, one leg here, the other leg there.
There is a different Islam. This is already clear today. Even in Iran.
There are millions of Muslims who support freedom, human rights, equality
for women. These millions loathe Khamenei, Chavez and Nasrallah too. But
part of the global left wing prefers the ayatollah regime over them. The
main thing is for them to raise flags against Israel and America. The
question is why the democrats, the liberals, and Obama, Blair and Sarkozy,
are continuing to sit on the fence. This is not a fence of separation, it
is a fence of shame.
robin hood
The Iranians have been shouting "Death to America" for 30 years. They finally start shouting "Death to" one of their own, and you can't wait to give them an excuse to go back to saying "Death to America."
Sometimes keeping your mouth shut is the wisest course of action.
Iranian women are some of the hottest on the planet. Central American too. They can run me if they want as I don't function on power. Womanizing is much more fun.
Actually, yes, it is about freedom and equality, it is about an injustice, happening right now.
Are you for real, Don ?
wow!!!! you people never stop--like a flock of magpies screaming out of thier poor-whining sore losing--cant get over the defeat rusted out bagpipes!!!! lets say we cave in to the whiners and lets send are armada, our stealth bombers, our bunker busters, our ever so brave children, our b-52's. lets send in all of our might and free the poor iranian. you idiots need to study history a little futher back than yesterday!!! the obama administation is doing the exact correct thing to do. they are dignifying thierself's to the world with respect and class.why dont you get a one way ticket to anywhere in iran and go grab some rocks with the people--and dont forget your blackberry!!!i promise to hold my breath until you send me a video!!! do i feel sorry for them??you damn right i do and that is why i wish they destroy the present regime, but who am i to decide how they govern thier land.seeing you wont go to iran--lets make it easy for your armchair critics--go protest to the UNITED NATIONS and while your at have a huge north korean flag to support your marshmellow brain. you people are pathetic.now i need to vent but instead,i think i will just go smoke one.at least this president admits he is a human and does not protray himself as some super-king.
Robin Hood Troll... can I call you that? You're trolling, after all.
Obama has condemned the violence in Iran. How is it that people expect us to "support Iran?"
Are we supposed to send troops, even though it violates international law? Does the US need sanctions?
Are we supposed to say, "Bad Iran!" and say that we want a revolution, officially? Do you mean to tell me that all of the sudden, you're not going to pull the "Obama is all talk" card again?
Are we supposed to secretly subvert the populace? We're being accused of it, and there have been recent cases in which people were forced to say that they've been protesting because of the US and England. Is that going to really affect a populace who are already essentially on our side on the matter?
No, the only choice we have is to respect the sovereignty of other nations. We don't rule the world, and considering how much it's been costing us to flex our muscles in just 2 Middle Eastern countries, I really don't wanna pay for ANOTHER war. People are still pulling their little tea parties, complaining about over-spending (and pretending that it's only Obama who does so.)
To Allan,
You don't make any sense. When men lead the way in battle and war, they are called Neanderthals. The feminists say the world would be so much more peaceful only if women are in control. We will all get along, no more violence. Now that women in Iran are leading the charge in battle, you say "See, I told you the world would be safer if the world is run by women". History has shown that women in positions of leadership, whether in the work place or in the international arena, are much quicker to use force to settle disputes in order to avoid any criticism of being too timid.
I have the answer to all the Iranian women who are part of the Green Movement. If you want to be victorious in the next election, simply withhold having sex with any man or woman who supports Ahmadinejad. That will make converts out of those hardliners!
craig,
I have seen some of these women without their burquas. Your idea won’t work. LOL
CBW, since forever, men have had their hands on the button. Result? War. PMS - are you kidding? With one random surge of testosterone and an insecure ego, this planet could be toast. The big T is responsible for the world's aggression. In Iran, it is responsible for one of the biggest political lies ever - in 4.5 hours, they supposedly counted 36 MILLION HAND WRITTEN ballots.
Right now in Iran, it's the men with the big clubs and guns who are beating and murdering UNARMED women who have the audacity to stand up and be heard.
I'll see your PMS gender slur and raise you 13 religious fanatic gender bigots wearing robes and turbans no less who can't think of any other way to solve Iran's problem and preserve their 'power' but to lie to their country and pick on the women.
I dont know how true this is but I heard the birthrate in Iran has been going down-a concern for the current regime . I think they can get a good beating if they withhold sex.and no one will be there to help them. The police would probably beat them up0 some more.for disobeying their husbands.
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad must be publically held responsible for his atrocities, hopefully. We are wishing him a future in his Hell.
Ahmadinejad is the "Supreme Leader's" puppet. Think Howdy Doody.
Madness is still madness. Evil is still evil. In anybody's name?

Bonsoir.
It's great the women of Iran are standing up for their rights.
Just wait until one of them has PMS with her hand on the button
Assuming you're being sarcastic. I get PMS, and the most I did was scream into a pillow and write a gruesome story. How many women do you know who go beserk when they're PMS'ing?
Hundreds and thousands of people got killed in Ruwanda, Uganda, and some other African country. Did we do anything. Nothing. There is dictatorship in Thailand. Do we do anything against the tarrany. Nothing. We made the biggest mistake of going to Iraq with some bull @!$%# WMD. Whole of middle east hates us. These people who are in the streets of Tehran hates us. The idiot who lost the election is no better than Ahmadinejad. They all hate us. This is none of our business. If the Iranians think the voting is incorrect, it is their problem. As far as I know, we have made grave mistakes by playing politics and getting our men and women killed for the bunch of idiots who hate us. We are Satan as far as middle east is concerned. If they want to chop up the protestors with axes, its their business. We told the Kurdish people during Saddam's regime to revolt we are behind them and we abandoned those people and thousands were killed by Saddam. I checked rest of the middle eastern news and rest of the middle eastern hipocrites are quiet about this. Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Abu Dabi, Baharain. You know why, because they are dictators. We could have put a democratic govt in Kuwait when we freed it. But those sheiks gave us millions of dollars in oil for free. So why are we interfering with another country's election process, whatever it is. I think Obama should make a statement stating, the election process of Iran is their affair and we have nothing to say about it. I bet we would gain some respect of that devil Ahmadinejad. Does not matter he still want us and Israel destroyed. So does the majority of iranians. We gave trillons of $ to Pakistan as aid so the politicians can divide it among themselves and use it against India. The money was supposed to be used to fight terrorism. Did we do anything about it. We destroyed Iran by supporting the corrupt Shah to be in power. Learn from India. When the terrorist attacked Bombay last year, India had all the power and reason to blow Paksitan out of the map. But they refrained and used diplomatic way. You want to save the world? Are you the champion of freedom and democracy? Then go to Africa. But we wont. Who cares about some poor country who has nothing to offer. Iran, Iraq, Kuwait Oh yes oil ... This is bull @!$%#. Mccain and rest of the moroons wants war.
The U.S. and it's European Allies (all former owners of colonies in the middle east) have their collective jock straps all bunched up over Iran's Nuclear program, saying they are against nuclear "proliferation". What a bunch of hypocrites. Read below from an article on Counter Punch website by Andrew Cockburn:
Back in 1979, Zbigniew Brzezinski, intent on his own jihad against the USSR, declared that the "Afghan resistance" should be supplied with money and arms. That, of course, required full Pakistani cooperation, which would, Brzezinski underlined, "require a review of our policy toward Pakistan, more guarantees to it, more arms aid, and, alas, a decision that our security policy toward Pakistan cannot be dictated by our nonproliferation policy." In other words, Pakistan was free to get on with building a bomb so long as we could arm the people who have subsequently come back to haunt us. Asked for his views on Pakistan's nuclear ambitions, Ronald Reagan replied "I just don't think it's any of our business." During the years that the infamous A.Q. Khan was peddling his uranium enrichment technology around the place, his shipping manager was a CIA agent, whose masters seem to have had little problem with allowing the trade to go forward.
Now comes word from inside the Obama government that little has changed. "Most of the aid we've sent them over the past few years has been diverted into their nuclear program," a senior national security official in the current administration recently told me. Most of this diverted aid -- $5.56 billion as of a year ago – was officially designated "Coalition Support Funds" for Pakistani military operations against the Taliban. It may be that this diversion came as a terrible shock to Washington, but the money has been routinely handed over essentially without accounting being required from the Pakistanis. The GAO has huffed at items such as the $30 million shelled out for non-existent roads, of the $1.5 million for "naval vehicles damaged in combat" but that was as far as public complaints went. In the meantime, as Joint Chiefs Chairman Admiral Mullen confirmed recently, the Pakistanis have been urgently increasing their nuclear weapons production.

I have yet to meet any woman that would make a good leader. There definitely wouldn't be any peace. I can't even count the number of times I've seen so called friends call their so called friends some rude comment, mock their parenting, clothing, boyfriends, girlfriends, you name it. They find fault in everything but themselves. And I can tell you at least six of my last girlfriends friends weren't really her friends. Even my friends wives and some family members wives couldn't seem to understand the simple concept of fidelity. Like I'm going to be interested in some tramp that is stabbing her spouse in the back.
Women are some of the most dishonest people around. How many guys fake it? how many guys have another mans child and let an unwitting Joe raise their illegitimate offspring. And they always have some kind of excuse for why they can't do something. They constantly complain about things but never seek a solution.
Auteur 1536
Imagine doing all that with your finger on the button.
I was married to one.
screaming into pillows and writing gruesome stories sounds a Little berserkie to me.
Saying that women should run the world is just as sexist as making women stay in the kitchen, because you're labeling people with gender roles that they won't be able to break. Just in case you didn't know Iran has an entire police squad made of only women, the people in this police squad are the ones who cut women's faces with razors if they wear too much makeup, they're also the ones who beat them if their hair is exposes. That just shows you all people regardless of race or gender can be just a cruel and brutal if given too much power.
Sadly the world will give women most of the power because they have the same misconception as you. It'll be history repeating itself just like when they gave men all the power. There needs to be equal representation both ways around and until the world realizes this there will always be oppression.
That chick is hot.
The Dude abides...
I didn't see this as I was typing my last comment. I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking this.
DED GRIMLEY
you ignorant !!! I want to see you out on the street risking our life and limb. You think she's still hot-- beating up- You sound like someone real comfy in front of the tv with a six pack.
Actually, she’s quite cold. How inappropriate, disrespectful and sick. So, what do we have here: Mr. Antisocial Poster Child, or just another “Pharm-Kid”?
He's talking about the chick in the pic on this article. It's a joke, relax. I'm glad they chose to put a cute one up front in that pic, too- very nice shot (I'm sure the photographer was thinking the same thing as the rest of us apes).
yep she is hot -even a gay old guy like me thinks that!
I do have a problem with going to war with everyone tho..
.lets make love not war! I thought Obama was a peace candidate!
You guys are right. People in stressful situations can't be attractive, too. They're all very, very ugly.
to treat a woman with brutal or deadly force is as low as you can go..as for the women of Iran, aren't they beautiful ??..they doll up for demonstrations and are so eloquent..it's sad to see the mistreatment of lovelies.. that's all I can say.........
They really are! I've spent a lot of time in Egypt and it is amazing how beautiful these young women are.
An old professor of mine used to say when we would see women in full burqas "she must be a real beauty!" lol
Seriously? This could be a major turning point in the way women are treated in Islamic countries, and all you phallocentric douches can think of is how hot Middle Eastern women are?
Please also realize these are very educated women and NO they are not allowed to run for office but they can vote Isn't that cute!!!
jeeesus, and Imv77. You're both right. I've dated a couple of Middle Easter ladies before. There are some absolutely beautiful women in that region of the world.
As for you "dark_faerie", recognizing the beaty of Middle Eastern women in no way detracts from the magnitude or importance of what's happening over there. You've got a lot of nerve calling people "phallocentric douches" with a screen name like yours.
I don't think they are so hot. Been there a couple times and they look to much like men with their hair lips. You could knit a complete upholstery for a Cadillac Escalade with their body hair actually probably just using the facial hair alone. I guess it could be romantic to shave your girls back hair or braid it. But just not my cup of tea.
Its like those ghetto trash tattoo girls or a smoker. Nasty.
If they were ugly would it be ok to beat them then? It seems most American people judge a person by their outer appearance before anyting else. Most women in Iran want to be judged by their character and their intellegence and not just by the way they look.
hey, dark_faerie and 4the people, right away your minds head for the gutter..we know that's a Man Thing.. we said nothing about sex or various sweat/ hair glands..please, before accusing some one's complements..take time to read word for word context.. please, don't assume beyond by what is stated okay...
Imagine If All the Women of Iran Stood Together in Defiance and got shot or locked up how would The Government Of Iran and People Continue!
Technology the Boon And the Bane of Authoritarian Rule Everywhere. Equal Rights and Accountability Everywhere !
Stand up People Of Iran For your Freedoms !
I believe that this will turn into something longer lasting as eventually the moderates will preavail over time. Being told what to do, what to wear, yes sir, no sir all the time will run it's course and the people will finally have enough and hopefully influence those in the Republican Guard and the Army. I think demonstrations are a tangible expression of how many Iranians feel and think but were aprehensive about demonstrating. Go the people of Iran!
Nancy Pelosi was RIGHT!!! US CIA is lying and meddling in IRAN? If our 3rd in line to the presidency knows then we should all know - the world should know -p United States CIA are LIARS!!! They are instigating the killings in Iran?
drbacon: I'm all in. My family has been here since Cromwell ran us out of England. This is just a re-run!!!
May I ask which comment this is referring too?
I am so proud of the Iranian people (men and women) who are risking their lives to fight for their freedoms. I think it is showing the world that many in the Islamic world do not stand for the strict Islamic laws that their governments suppress them with.
I hope that this will not end like so many uprisings, and something will actually change in Iran for human rights.
"When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty."
Thomas Jefferson
Maybe Pelosi is right? Is the CIA liars? It appears they are instigators in IRAN? Why is Barack meddling in IRAN politics? CIA is causing upheavel in IRAN? PELOSI MAY ACTUALLY BE RIGHT - CIA ARE LIARS?
"A little revolution, now and again, is a good thing". - Thomas Jefferson.
Both good quotes. Now when are we going to stop fearing our government and begin a revolt that will turn things around. It's easy to praise the Iranians for their brave stand but when are we going to join them in apposing our own suppressive government.
Imagine:
An enemy of the USA starts killing its own people who want a democratic government. But we have a pansy ass president that doesnt want to stand up for what's right.
OH WAIT... this has happened twice. With Carter, and with Obama. Too bad this BS never happens with a Reagan in office.
uhhh uhh uhh I am uhh folks I am uhhh uhh "appalled"
Barry said "My Cairo speech has caused the Iranians to protest! Wait, they are being killed? uh This is totally uh George's fault."
Why couldn't they have waited until Obama is gone?
Uhh uhh uhh Michelle uhh make sure they uhh ship that new persian rug uhh uh umm uh we ordered before it uhh uh gets blood all over it uhhh. uhh uhh what is for supper uhh uh tonight honey...
Barry to Biden:
"uhh uhh make sure that uhh aiforce one is uh sent over to uhh uhh iran so that uhhh you can pick up my concubines. I uhh dont want them uhh to get killed. They are uhhh much more uhh satisfying than my uhhh man-ish wife."
It wasn't a bunch of "words just words" in Cairo This started when women in Afganistan and Iraq risked their lives to vote and held up a stained finger for all other Muslims to witness!
This whole thread is assinine.
What EXACTLY do you think the Pres. should have done?
We don't even have an ambassador in Iran - we haven't for the past 30 years. They can't even claim that we are insighting the protests because there are very, very few Americans in Iran at any given time.
Why do you think they are blaming the British??? ? Because we aren't there to blame.
They have been chanting DEATH to AMERICA for 30 years. They finally start chanting DEATH to one of their own, and you can't wait to give them a reason to go back to chanting DEATH to AMERICA.
Fools.
Without all the immature stupidity, can either of you tell me how YOU think Obama should handle this and what the pros and cons would be if he handled it the way YOU wanted him to?
Yo Tyler, why don't you get off your duff and march on to a recruiting office and enlist. DO SOMETHING PRODUCTIVE INSTEAD OF MOUTHING OF STUPIDITY AND HIDING BEHIND YOUR MONITOR. GOD KNOWS OUR MILITARY CAN USE A BREAK!
YEAH, your right wing mentality shows right thru your anti Obama rant. As IF you wouldn't be the first to CRY and complain IF our president acts like McSame and take us to a 3rd war!! Regardless of what Obama do, he's damn if he do and damn if he don't. He can't even go to the bathroom without you people throwing a temper tantrum. GROW UP!
Where's the comic relief if we can't make fun of Obama like we did Bush?
Heh. Obama doesn't give us nearly as much material as Bush did. :) I think it's pathetic that right-wing racist nuts have to turn almost every discussion on newsvine into an anti-Obama rant. Don't you people have anything better to do? Calling his wife a man and using ebonics to make up phony quotes, for gawdsakes.
WTF is he supposed to do about Iran? Oh, IDK...do the same thing Bush should have done when all the bs in Iraq started. Stay out and mind his own damn business. If you care soo much about helping those poor innocent people, why don't you go over there yourself, or at least forgo buying that new plasma tv and send them the money? No? Yeah, that's right, you talk big. Put up or shut up.
Reagan turned and ran from Lebanon because the Lebanese blew up our Embassy and the Marine Barracks. The right decision from my point of view, but probably not from yours.
Reagan was 50% of the reason why the USSR failed. He supported the people and they knew it. It gave the people confidence and they eventually overthrew their government. I hate Republicans. Obama on the other hand is a naive idiot. WHO THE HELL LETS FASCIST DICTATORS TO THE WHITE HOUSE/DC DURING THE 4TH OF JULY? This man is an absolute idiot. The man is a black Jimmy Carter, a loser. And how is anything I said racist? Find a better argument retard. Michelle is free game. Thank you Lettermen for making innocent family members free game. How does it feel leftist fascists? Bush was a fascist too. 5 retards have run for president in the last three elections: Obama, McCain, Bush, Kerry, and Gore. HOW THE HELL HAVE WE LET 5 RETARDS RUN?
On a side note, I can't enlist as I had half of my knee blown off durring Operation Desert Storm. I wish I could enlist but I can't walk without my cane.
pros of the post listed above:
no american lives lost
iranian people confidence
less bloodshed
cons:
iran uses us as a scapegoat (who will buy it though)
Why does everyone sound as if the Iranian events are for the US to steer?
Iran is a sovereign nation, and while it would be desirable they have more of the human rights we hold dear, it is not helpful to sreech for action and intervention. Change can only come about from within. Believe me, no rulers can rule, unless there is approval from a significant segment of the population. When approval shrinks, then things can change, in their own good time.
The US has apologized for their intervention in Chile, have they apologized for their intervention (Mossadegh) in Iran? It ran deep in the psyche of Iranians for decades, probably still does.
The less Obama comments on Iran, the better. The less the US do, the better. Why are you supporting the anti-US forces in Iran by meddling, even if it is only with words so far, as far as we are told?
uhhh uhh umm ohh uhh I will put out uhhh uhh folks that is uhh uhh ummm uhh I feel uhh uhh well just uhhh uhhh uhh "APPALLED" ohhh and clearly uhhh uhh just track what I said uhhh ummmm ummm uhhhh "OUTRAGED" uhhh uh.....
Im supporting the 53% of the people that are under the age of 30 in Iran that don't hate the USA and want a secular democracy. Not the 47% of fascist supporting nutjobs. The more Obama says without interfering the better. People didn't take Carter seriously because he ignored the situation. They mocked him. They feared Reagan. North Korea is screwing with Obama because they were afraid to screw with Bush. I felt safer with Bush in the White House and I hated Bush.
uhhh uhh well clealy folks uhhh umm uhh Tyler that is uhhh that sounds uhhh uhh ummm uhh that is clearly uhhh absolutely correct uhhh uhh and uhhh clearly if you track what I said uhhh uhh I feel like I agree uhh uhhh ummm and I too would feel uhhh uhh umm ohh uhh clearly uhh uhh I would feel safer if Bush was uhhh uhhh president too uhh uhhh....
Tyler, what the hell are you talking about?
What do you expect Obama to do, go to war with Iran over their own internal political conflicts? He has already spoken out against the violence. I think you're just another bitter, Obama hater looking for a cheap shot at the President. Just last year all you Bush jockstraps were praying for a war with Iran, now all of a sudden you're "supporting the 53% of the people under the age of 30" in Iran? Get real.
No one feared Reagan, if so there wouldn't have been an attempt on his life. Some of us feared Reagan would try to get us into a nuclear war with the Soviets, because he was a typical republican, warmongering POS. Of course all he ever did was kill Kaddaffi's 18 month old niece with an air strike, in true chicken hawk fashion.
The world, including most Americans with an IQ over 75 feared Bush, because he is immature, belligerent, and utterly ignorant like all of his supporters and a horrible leader. On top of all that, he's an ex coke freak (common knowledge here in Texas) and recovering alcoholic( if there is such a thing). It was a long and scary 8 years with that pickle-brained idiot in charge. Thank the universe it's over. The entire world breathed a collective sigh of relief on January 20th this year. Everyone with common sense feels 100% safer with Bush OUT of the White House.
That is the reason why Reagan was shot at! Because he was feared! Obama is a naive, arrogant punk.
There are other options beside war you punk. I hated Bush. Bush was a retard. You at least actively tell your support to people who want Democracy, something that America should always stand for. Iraq didn't want it, but Iran does. We help them by actively supporting them in speech. It boosts confidence and morale of those abroad. Negotiating with them makes us look like cowards. Obviously you never got the chance to talk to someone like the Ayatollah. I have and negotiating with them would spell victory for.... wait for it.... them. Get a clue fascist.
Next fascist please give me a reasonable argument. And don't use Bush as an example, I hated him.
Firstly-I hope you are getting good care as a vet!!! The problem is the exorbatant amount of money it costs to run for office. We have good people but they can't afford the kind of money needed to get elected. The only ones shoved in the forefront for us to vote for are the ones that the "money" unions and corporate America give us. I find it obscene that it costs 300M for someone to run for office and this needs to stop!!!!
Reagan saved us from Carter. Clinton was also great. I loved Reagan and I loved Clinton because they believed in the constitution, something Bush and Obama seem to have forgotten
I get good healthcare because I struck gold in the stock market under Clinton. I don't need government care and refuse every check I get from the government.
SJ from Tacoma
A: Obama could sneak his family into Iraq and demostrate on the front Lines throwing molotav cocktails and screeming "yes we cant"
B: We could dress Michelle up like a woman and sneak her into the new leaders Harem. After he has gone through all 106 girls three times and decides to do a brown bag charity he'll have to pick Michelle. When she unviels her hideous face and starts to disrobe he'll drop dead.
They have been chanting DEATH to AMERICA for 30 years. They finally start chanting DEATH to one of their own, and you can't wait to give them a reason to go back to chanting DEATH to AMERICA.
That's been a small majority of Iran. I'm sure you could go to the south of America and they'd be chanting "Nuke those sandn***rs". Most Iranians I've met actually like America, why else do you think their signs are written in english?
It is time Iranians adopt some of the strateggies which were adopted by Mahatma Gandhi to defeat the British, the colonial rulers. The brave women of Iran can lead the fight, by marching togather facing the bullets and battons, willing to lay down the lives. In no time the weapon of the Basijs will fall down...and with thta will go the throne of the ayatollah. THis has worked well in India, in USA, and in South Africa and have provided lasting change in the society. If iranian women take lead it will also be great liberating force for the rest of muslim women through out the world.
Seeing as how the protesters are among the most well educated, most urban and most moneyed citizens, I think they'd bring the gov't. down faster if they simply stopped spending money.
Buy nothing but absolute necessities. After a few months, what little is left of their economy will crumble.
It is called CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE. Average age of Iranian is 27 and educated. The muslim faith has stymied growth in art; culture-products when you see all the achievements in centuries before come out of the Middle East-even Iraq the cradle of civilization--- and now nothing comes out of there except violence- it is sad. All because of ISLAM in its present form-whose main objective is build a bomb and carry religion to extreme. Can you imagine a free society that will again contribute to the world in art, literature, etc as it has done in the past. And some of the most beautiful places on earth--Kashmir; Khyber Pass; that we would be able to go see if it weren't for all that religious squable. Tourism alone would wipe out a big chunk of poverty in some of those places.
I have spent a lot of time in Egypt, too and there are a lot of women that are powerful and well respected - such as the heads of the major regulatory labs that control imports in the Ministries of Agriculture, Health and in the Biotechnology center. Young Egyptian women are often treated badly by low-class louts on the street in Egypt (rare for Western women to be badly treated on the street in Egypt but it can happen). But educated Egyptian women can become respected and powerful. The American University of Cairo was originally built for women - so that they wouldn't be tempted to go to Europe or the US for education. Bangladesh, a Muslim country, has two women who alternate as presidents (neither very good). Thatcher was a wonderful Prime Minister - smart, tough and really changed things for the better. Merkel also seems to be doing a good job. Indira Gandi did a lot of horrible things to her country. The current President of Argentina is doing a bad job. So women do have positions of authority in many places in the world (Chile, formerly Sri Lanka, etc). I had a young woman working for me in Egypt that was very effective at negotiating with male heads of Egyptian companies and was well respected. Another older woman working for me in Jordan could easily see and advise Ministers and other high officials and business people and also was well respected. In Iran, most of the college graduates are women (and that is a trend in America, too). In sub-saharan Africa some of the lazy drunken men (not all the men but a fair number) are being left behind by industrious business women who save, invest and prosper. Our young men in America , getting their stimulation (instead of intellectual stimulation) by looking at pictures of beautiful women are starting to be left behind all over the world - in the US, in Africa, and the Middle East. There are some extreme laws controlling women as in Saudi Arabia and recent setbacks for women in Iran (e.g. removing a female judge) have been unfair, but women are not as downtrodden in the Muslim world as some Americans would like to imagine. They have been powerful in Iran and will be again.
Serious is correct, oui. Seriously "Assinine". Emphasis on "ASS". Newsvine just keeps going down the toilet. Did all the My Spacers, end up over here? Frig'n Cesspool?
Bonsoir/
“Bonsoir” mon stand adieu. Pourquoi écrire des commentaires en français? Je fais mes points en anglais. Je tiens à ce qu'il soit facile pour eux de comprendre. Oui?
Bonsoir.
If our country was ran by a woman, there would be far less wars and we definitely would not be in the mess in Iraq. Our former two presidents both hid behind doing reserve duty so neither of them fought in Viet Nam. The last one had no problem sending our children into harm's way. Of course, neither of his children went over there. Maybe if that had been in the military and had the chance to go, he might not have been so hasty to beat feet over there.
A woman would think long and hard before sending someone's child into war knowing that there was a possibility that child may not come home.
but then the woman would not be respected by the men in the extremist countries and more people would die as a result of the disrespect. That argument goes both ways...
That argument may have been a valid one thirty years ago, but not in present time. We have had three women as secretary of state who have been accepted by foreign countries and have done quite well. And, England has had a female prime minister who was very well respected around the world.
except in Muslim countries where the dogs have more rights then women. With our poor relations with the islamic ones, no matter who started it, a woman president would only get mocked
So what you are saying is that women are the only true minorities regardless of race.
I don't think that the Chinese or extremist muslims will take them seriously.
When my grandmother was a young woman she didn't even have the right to vote. That was less than 100 years ago. So the way I look at it anything is possible even with chinese and extremist muslims
And the USA is the most tolerant. You obviously have never been to those Islamic countries. Women are good for only one thing to them: sex slaves. So if you put a "sex slave" in charge, prepare to get laughed and sneered at.
You both have very valid points.
I’ve spent a lot of time working in Egypt (I’m an archaeologist) and the ONLY time I was ever treated like a human being was on site by our workmen. They are pretty much the only thing I like about the country. They do not respect women and especially Western women; we are all whores to them.
Just an FYI, Egypt is the most tolerant of all of them...
Yup, and I was spit on my first day there.
Tyler,
Pakistan had a female prime minister/president (Bhutto) and they nearly re-elected her last year.
Pakistan is Muslim.
Indonesia, the most populated Muslim country on Earth also had a female president (Megawatti??).
Turkey is a Muslim country and they have a distinct separation of religion and gov't.
So that pretty much blows that notion. You really can't generalize.
There is plenty of historical information to debunk your notion that women leaders are "kinder and gentler" as the saying goes. Queens have fought some mighty bloody wars....and they were "supreme" rulers to be sure.
Does anyone really believe that a woman President of the US would be any weaker than was Jimmy Carter? ???
Well Obama and Carter will go down as the weekest presidents in history. Bush will go down as the most retarded.
Jimmy Carter had good instincts on international policy but little appreciation of how to run the political process. He did succeed in making peace between Israel and Egypt and that lasted and the Egyptian position of peace with Israel and opposition to Hamas creates the possbility of a peace settlement in todays world - if the US can bring the parties together for the compromises needed. But to talk about a President of the last century that really did a lot of damage, I would vote for Woodrow Wilson. Read John Maynard Keynes who saw his performance at the Versaillles peace conference at the end of World War I. He wanted to promote democracy (as many claim to want on this site) but didn't know what he was doing, was manipulated by Clemenceau (the French leader) and ended up helping to cause World War II by imposing unjust conditions on the Germans. Some of the bold supporters of action for democracy should be a bit more humble about their knowledge of what is really going on. It is usually more complicated than it appears to people that only see some pictures and headlines.
uhh uhh "appalling"
This really is no different than in the 1600s and 1700s when the catholic church ruled with an iron fist and they had very strong control over the people of England. If you said anything against the church, you could be beheaded.
True and the Crusaders were out to kill the "infidels" too. That is why you have to have a government not run by a religious institution. The changes came from the outside - from society itself who no longer wanted the church to dictate every moment of their liveswho were tired of corruption and hypocrisy The Pope still tells world governments what they should do Wait til Obama gets to the Vatican the Pope will tell me the same crap about birth control, etc. that he's told everybody else before him. He should mind his flock. In some ways the Vatican still doesn't get it either.
uhh this sounds uhh uhh just like you were reading from a book you uuhhh wrote yourself uhh?
write a book?? -life has been kinda normal not much of interest going on otherwise I could get real rich like Dick C. Do you think he will reveal all his dark secrets in his book or just some shooting pointers
Barack, are the Iranian officials bringing the meat to the BBQ at the white house this 4th?? And you the smokes?
Ahmadinejhad:
"Barrack, when are we going to have that BBQ?"
Barry:
"July 4, my husband michelle is going to cook the meat, we can sit back and watch you kill your own people on the big screen in the White House. It sure as hell beats them firecrackers if you gets what I'm saying."
Yo OLDAZ,
TAKE THE SAME ADVICE I GAVE TO Tyler. * Why don't you get off your OLD AZZ and march on to a recruiting office and enlist.
GROW UP!
ohh yeah, well, I'll grow up if you uhhh uhh uh umm ohh uhhh if you uhhhummm uhh shut up uhhh uhh?
"Hey Michelle, uhh I uhhh just took a uhhh viagra... Want to uhhh make another baby so that uhhh we can uhh have the Jonas Brothers uhhh back in the White House?"
"I do like the Jonas brother Barry. We totally should. Let's use taxpayer dollar to buy dipers for little Ahmadinejad Obama"
"Michelle, uhhhh how did you uhhhhh come up with such a beautiful uhhhh name?"
"Well Barrack, on the news, it said he won the election for some country. It must be a big deal because he is on the news a lot..."
"Why uhhhh haven't I uhhh heard of this Michelle?"
"Well Barrack, you have been busy practicing for that ABC bit on Obamacare, you know, the staged one? You've also been busy staging interviews. How can you forget that?"
"Michelle, that is uhhhh all very intersting, but the uhhh viagra is really taking effect. LET'S UHHH GO!"
haahaaa. yeee haaww.
I remember it being like" uhhh uhhh ohhh umm uh Michelle, Michelle uhhh uhhh clearly folks uhh uhh umm honey uhh uh if you track what I uhhh uhh ummm ummm uhh ohhhhh uh what I said uhh uhh I was clearly consistent from the beginning uhhh uhhh and I uhhh folks uhh uhh didn't say uhh you looked fat in that uhh uhhh dress, I clearly if you track what I consistently said from uhhhh uhh ummm ohhh umm uhh from the beginning uhhh uhh is that dress maked you uhh uh looked fat hhh clearly uhh uh....
Oldaz and Tyler are the typical, overgrown, immature frat-boy mentality jackasses.
You have to learn to ignore trolls. Their parents failed to pay them enough attention as children, so they've got to try and get it somewhere now as adults.
I have a right to Obama bash, especially if I dislike everything he is doing. (basically Bush II except anti-war which is their only difference). I voted for Obama. I realize now that was a mistake.
YOu guys are just blathering nonsense to one another....
ohhh just continue picking your nose. Nobody will notice.
I realize your comment is your intellectual maximum.. which increases my sympathy for you and yours. Good Luck!
This is appalling
1:33 pm: The Guardian has this account from a medical student inside Iran.
I only want to speak about what I have witnessed. I am a medical student. There was chaos at the trauma section in one of our main hospitals. Although by decree, all riot-related injuries were supposed to be sent to military hospitals, all other hospitals were filled to the rim. Last night, nine people died at our hospital and another 28 had gunshot wounds. All hospital employees were crying till dawn. They (government) removed the dead bodies on back of trucks, before we were even able to get their names or other information. What can you even say to the people who don't even respect the dead. No one was allowed to speak to the wounded or get any information from them. This morning the faculty and the students protested by gathering at the lobby of the hospital where they were confronted by plain cloths anti-riot militia, who in turn closed off the hospital and imprisoned the staff.
The extent of injuries are so grave, that despite being one of the most staffed emergency rooms, they've asked everyone to stay and help--I'm sure it will even be worst tonight. What can anyone say in face of all these atrocities? What can you say to the family of the 13 year-old boy who died from gunshots and whose dead body then disappeared? This issue is not about cheating (election) anymore. This is not about stealing votes anymore. The issue is about a vast injustice inflected on the people. They've put a baton in the hand of every 13-14 year old to smash the faces of "the bunches who are less than dirt" (government is calling the people who are uprising dried-up torn and weeds). This is what sickens me from dealing with these issues. And from those who shut their eyes and close their ears and claim the riots are in opposition of the government and presidency!! No! The people's complaint is against the egregious injustices committed against the people.........
Obama's Peace Partner?
Welcome to the real world - not the fantasy land most of us live in.
We cannot take a John Wayne attitude here. If you want this situation in Iran to change it has to come from within. Look they are already blaming the British for the unrest-don't give those hardliners an excuse to make it even worse for protesters. If they tighten the noose too much it will backfire on all the Grand Leaders or whatever they call themselves because more oppression will create more unrest and instability.
Most of the individuals I have seen on the news appear to be pretty focused on doing what they feel is necessary. We in the outside world can help by keeping the communication lines open via twitter or whatever; boycott Nokia & Siemens products. So let us keep governments out of there but we as individuals in the world community do what we can within our reach to support their efforts.
thanx for the feedback--even more reason to stay out of your country!! i am only speaking for me-a american and damn proud) the reports we get here in america are that you are furious of a fraudulent vote-dont feel alone! you know- where is my vote? second you now tell us-- it is against the inhumane treatment of the citizens of iran? i am sorry i find that excuse numb--for the simple reason, the people of iran have always been treated like desert dogs of a lower class than the scorpion. it is time you the people rise from the shadow of death and ressurrect your freedom and life. tell me when have the iranian ever have freedom-as we know it.you have always been ruled either by a king,emperor,dictator-&-the grand ally. you want freedom???then get off your whining ass and cowboy the f--k-up.grab your freedom and never let go of it,have a free society where every human is equal to all.have the freedom of speech-religion-color-creed.stand up to the man and bring him down to his knees.nobody is going to give you freedom--you have to earn it and then you have to fight like hell to keep-it!!! your country is centuries older than mine--and the sacrifices my founding fathers endured makes your plea un heard of. i am sorry but todays world is so much different.i do have a few suggestions to help you get your freedom that you say you want so desperately and first i dont want to sound so cold---my heart does cry for the common iranian men women and children--the innocent and weak ones, you will get your justice;if you pursue and fight for it-1) ask the palenstians if they dont mind giving back some of those rpg's-ammo-guns and while thier at it also some volunteers for fighting also and in return you will help them fight from opperssion when you are finished in iran--take a few months off and then go to palenstine!good luck on that one!-2)have a nationwide strike and do absolutely nothing.stay home and stare at the walls for one month and do nothing.-3)appeal to your friends and family to pick up the pressure for freedom.-4)pressure the muslim religion for change-freedom!.-5)finish your REVOLOUTION and then create a government and constitution that will rival that of america.china is your great friend and so is venzuleua---maybe there not to busy and maybe they can send some freedom fighters and technical advisors over there to free you from the tryanny of the western world!!(just a thought-ok?)i wonder if your grand council would even know you had oil--if it was not for the british to find it first?the western world is not all that bad if only your leaders would stop having the little man syndrome!!there is a young story we hear over hear;--"f--k with the bull and you will get the horn"
you will have to take it nice and slow and always be persistant.your freedom will not come quick nor easy--the power does'nt give in easy. you created the power and now you have to destroy it--if you really desire freedom---for once in all of mankinds history show us and the world that you want the taste of freedom and the food of enduring happiness for a better life for all IRANIANS. i will pray for your safety and freedom to come swift and with little bloodshed-although i do not believe that will happen, and while i mention it how do i know whether you are real and not a spy or plant!!!where is ole kadafi at-maybe he not to busy!!!call him!
why the hell is the united states always first to hear the cries of the world-but never on the thank-you list for freeing the people???enough!!!by god were first to have our flags burnt and hate slogans blasted onto my tv and into my life!!!which reminds me--next time you people burn my flag--have at least a little dignity and heart and have a real american flag instead of a homemade junker
good luck on your revoloution-we are also having one too.trying to fix our torn economy, attitude, health care, housing, education, wall street, and the list endlessly goes on.may allah shine his love and affection on you and your countrymen!and yes i do love my obama and my biden. thank god dick and bush are no longer here--with a ticker like that i knew we were going to get scre--d!
You are very ignorant.
First you are so dumb that you do not even know iranians are persian and NOT ARAB,let alone anything about their history.
Second iran became a democracy in 1907 till 1953 when CIA helped shah of iran to overthrow democraticlly elected government.so much for your USA helping other countries become democracy.
Third dumb and ignorant people like you should read books.
Iranians are far more secular than Americans and if you ever used PAPER MONEY,SANDWITCH,HIGHWAY or MAIL or algebra then you are using iranian inventions dumb ass.i do not believe british and your ancesters were doing anything at the time of these inventions other than swinging on trees.
no you are the moron and you do not know me nor my education level!!!! you are the idiot that needs to go back to the school-books and instead of picking youre nose full of bugars--maybe you ought to try picking youre brain-if there is any left. for you to tell me i dont know the difference of a arab vs a persian, agains shows youre stupidity and your arrogance. if you have nothing smart to say than tigish you moron. secular???? what secular are you tounting on???
dont start on the swinging tree story because you have no basis from that viewpoint--unless it is your own,and then that makes sense to me
so while you want to respond 2 months later how does 3 months sound for your stupid excuse for life???? i still stick to my viewpoint and offer no apoligies to you or your damn iranian government. iran has never-ever known a democracy and at the rate there going------they never will. what a pathelic excuse you are for the "persian" so telll me---what of the twelve tribes of israel do you decend from?
you are very good at insulting many people on this nv --- so ---- how does it feel to the chump in the back of the class picking his bugars????
now i understand why leonidas was not at all impressed with morons like u
So, AP, just becuase the repressive government of Iran says you can't report, you put a disclaimer in your story. Wouldn't want to upset the Grand PooPah, or whatever he's called would you. But than, neither would our own "Community Organizer" want to upset the Muslim nation.............roots, perhaps?
I think it was to point out that they could not completely confirm the accounts, but I wouldn't be surprised if your comment was part of the reason....
So what. The President has "roots" in Islam. His middle name is Hussein. He is not trying to hide it. What if he was a practicing Musilim? Or what if he was an athiest? George W. Bush was a Christian and I never thought he had a secret agenda. Hopefully one day America will have a President that has no ties with religion whatsoever. And what is the president of the United States suppossed to do in this situation? Iran is not his country. Obama codemned the violence of that stupid theorcracy. The people will triumph and kick those Mullahs out of Iran, but this is not anything I want my country to get involved in. Iranians can take care of themselves.
Reporter: "President Obama, people are dying, what are you going to do?"
Obama: "this is appalling"
Reporter: "answer the question please mr. president"
Obama: "I DID YOU ARROGANT TOOL!"
Or how about this one...
Reporter: "President Obama, people are dying, what are you going to do?"
Obama: "I'm going to send all the young military men and women that are still available in the U.S. over there to create a war and lose thousands of American lives... because the republicans told me to"
SR Some people just don't get it John McCain call to arms John McCain is old enough to remember the Iranian mess we were in with the Shah If Bush were in the White House he would already have found weapons of mass voter fraud(Chads anyone) had the CIA in there and the troops ready to land. This is a fight between Iranians and while the outcome may be dismal right now for the protesters this situation will have severe repercussions down the road for those Grand Mullahs This stuff didn't happen over night or because of an election Usually situations like that have been brewing for a while the election just brought it to the forefront.
WE WON THE COLD WAR WITHOUT FIRING A BULLET YOU FASCIST!
Grow up! Reagan backed the people verbally and made threats. obama needs to do the same. it gives the people over there confidence that they have support from the greatest country in the world. INSTEAD WE OFFER THE IRANIAN GOVERNMENT HOT DOGS ON OUR INDEPENDENCE DAY AND SIT BACK AND WATCH THE INNOCENT DIE! Pull a Reagan! DEMAND SOMETHING FROM OTHER COUNTRIES!
Communist Russia would have fallen sooner or later Reagan or not. Oppressive regimes eventually fall People become tired and when people have had enough stuff happens. You may be able to control every aspect of a person's life but you can't stop the thought process.
If it werent for SDI, the USSR would not have fallen. They couldn't keep up with the technology. Reagan did a lot for the people of Russia. There is a Russian on this board who will tell you that too.
They were also going broke big time because they spend all their money on the military.
It was really good that women began to participate in the public life of all the countries specially where they can`t participate. In trhis new centyury all the women have the same opprtunities than men because they have all the skills to do the things that men do....
Ayatollah Obama...errr....I mean President Obama, has spoken
wtf?
The right complains that he doesn't say enough, then others on the right say sh!t like this.
Admit it, it doesn't matter what he says or does, you won't like it.
I will be the first to admit it.
My wife and I were in Turkey 4 years ago. She was wearing her western attire , which was not what the men were accustomed to. When we were in the bazzar in Istanbul the Turkish men were following us and staring at her yelling chickee chickee chickee. We have travelled the middle east on several occassions and going into some Mosques my wife had to cover her hair. No shorts are allowed even though it could be 100 degrees. Women must cover up. This like Mexico is a third world country. Out of 192 countries in the OECD Mexico and Turkey are the only ones that do not have a government health care system. OOPS I forgot there is one more country. The U.S.A. That's quite a group of 3 you are included in.
Last time I checked, people were not exactly rushing to become canadian citizens... But hey if your life sucks, guess you gotta blame somebody...
Mike didn't your parents teach you that its rude to meddle into other peoples bussiness. If they didn't then maybe canada needs to pass a law to teach manners to their children.
If you go into a traditional society, it is wise to avoid breaking cultural norms. Women wearing shorts (or even men wearing shorts other than for sports) and not covering your hair when going to a mosque is inappropriate in many countries. I wondered about the lady who said she was spit on in Egypt - what she was wearing and how she was acting.
In Egypt young women have chosen to cover their hair - to show their Islamic faith and conservative morals. Their grandmothers didn't cover their hair. Some places you have to be careful what you do with your left hand (because people wipe themselves with it). It is not very smart to complain about a negative reaction when you break local customs - you become sort of like the star of the film Borat. If you want to visit developing countries - try to respect their customs. Clothing is not the key to freedom.
You would probably find similar clothing and habits in Greece and Italy. If you don't want to consider local customs, don't travel internationally - say at home and write blogs about how great you are and how bad everyone else is.
On Canada - plenty of people are trying to imigrate to Canada - a top immigration target for people of Hong Kong and many other countries. They have a better health system than we have in America. Unfortunately, we can't adopt theirs, but hopefully we can improve ours.
I like what you said. About everything.
When in Rome.......
From the beginning of time, man have ruled the earth. Women have always been excluded from the heirarchy of any religion on the face of the planet. Some society consider women as assets for men, with no privileges except producing more people. The issue is why all the women of the world unite and say enough is enough. Seems strange that all the religous leaders came from women. And if God as we understand him created man in his own image and took a rib from Adam to make women, then how can anyone declare his existence without having been born as well? It's like , did the chicken come first or the egg. What if God is female? If that could be the case then man has lied to women since day one. Again if God gave the women the ability to reproduce, it might have been a special superiority to men. One must ask these questions before we as inhabitants of the earth can declare women less than men and stop this ridicules subjegation and suppression of women.
Hope this is not out of line, but Iran has some of the most beautiful women that I have ever seen....
How would that be out of line Jason. You gotta come out of the woods in Georgia, and get out to Southern California, there's plenty of Persian ladies.......man, they are smokin hot.
Does the girl in the picture wanna hook up shes hot.....
"It is the biggest insult to a woman that somebody can tell her what she should wear," said the 34-year-old Tehran woman active in the protests.
The above comment from the story reflects truly an aspect of human rights and individual freedom. Very aptly said which strikes at the root of the problems that today's religious practices produce.
To be more precise, " It is the biggest insult to humankind that one person or many to force their will on other people that practice social responsibility and believe in personal freedom."
Some of the present practices in religions, including Islam, are abominable examples of such human right abuses. If such practices take over the very essence of their root religion, then that religion in that state is not worth the followers that it commands. Sane people will demand reforms!!
Gabe
To all the beautiful women of Iran: GOD BLESS YOU AND KEEP FIGHTING FOR YOUR RIGHTS! You will eventually win. Maybe all women could refuse to ever wear a head scarf again as part of the protest. Who the hell wants anything on their head when it is 80 to 100+ degrees outside anyway?
hmm
typical man..think only about your own pleasure. That's their religion and they are proud of it and believe in it. Most women in the Middle East make the choice of wearing it like in my family. Men don't force it on women. Iran and saudi are the only exceptions to that but the rest of the muslim women around the world make their own choice to wear it because it's part of the belief.
I don't think Iranian women living in Iran do have a choice. Iran is a muslim country and run by men. The clerics or the supreme ruler sets the rules and it seems women in Iran are forced to take a back seat. They are the oppressed minority. They are not allowed to run for higher offices in Iran. Why isn't there a female mullah? Or a female president in Iran?
Saudi Arabian women aren't even allowed to drive? What's up with that? What are the men afraid of, that their wives and girlfriends would drive away. I would if I was stuck somewhere if I weren't allowed to drive.
I think if the Iranian women are going to protest. Some one should tell them they ought wear bullet proof vest, shin guards, and helmets under their scarfs, shawls and pants, because today they were brutally beaten, stabbed and gunned down like they were crimminals. I saw the video, and this one officer was hitting this women like she was a man, or a boxer in the ring. It was brutal.
Power to the Lipstick Sisterhood. You go Iranian women! Fight for your rights!
You don't know anything about how smart and strong Middle Eastern and Muslim women are. Muslim women were able to make themselves first female presidents( Bangladesh, Pakistan and Indonesia) and ministers like how it is through out the Persian Gulf ..something that didn't happen in the USA till now, but you guys are so stupid and know nothing about that part of the world...just one visit to that region will blow your minds away..ask Paris Hilton who's there right now having all the fun. Muslim women hold high profile positions in our governments and are not controlled by men. I feel sorry for the western women more cuz they are the ones being used for sex all the time..just to generate money for the men. Everyday a women get raped and killed in the USA by a boyfriend, husband, father etc!! so disgusting stories come from the west. Muslim women get more rights like the dowri, right to divorce men, goof treatment and all that was given by Islam to her and sometimes taken away by sick controling men.
You see the head scarf as weakness, but we muslim women actually see it as strength, We don't wanna be seen as "females only" . You just don't get it!! I'm a muslim female from the Persian Gulf and made my choice to wear the headscarf in the hot region of Dubai like many other muslim women because we believe in our faith and don't desire to be looked at as sex objects specially that Middle Eastern woman are blessed with beautiful wild hair, exotic beauty and curvy bodies and our wild men can't control themselves infront of all that..they aren't cold like the western men. Hope u get it now!!
I know many Iranian women. Some (like my grandmother, who even wore it while visiting the United States) wear their scarf because it actually does mean something important to them, but others do not wear it because they have been forced to since the revolution. And yes, middle Eastern women are the strongest I know.
