Why is this illegal? If a woman wants to sleep with men for money then fine thats her buisness. Hell we have women who sleep around just because they want to and do so for free so why cant a woman make a living doing that. America.....land of the free, nuff said
Actually, I can't believe it's still illegal anywhere else. What do our lawmakers think dating and marriage are? A woman says, "I'll only sleep with my boyfriend/husband if he buys me jewelry, takes me on vacations, etc. When he doesn't give me these things, I cut him off. If he doesn't mow the yard, I'll refuse to sleep with him."
There's no validly arguing that that's not prostitution. So, why do we draw such arbitrary lines on the circumstances under which it's legal or illegal? It's really quite archaic.
I agree. Time to make prostitution legal. Regulate it, tax the hell out of it and provide health screenings for all sex workers. It would not eliminate the seediness and the criminal element completely but it would be a big step. This thing is not going away. Ever.
The Bible encourages Prostitution. Put your sperm in the belly of a whore - rather than put it on the ground - or some sort of "horse @!$%#" like that. Don't know why the Religious Idiots of this nation think Prostitution is a sin- their own "holy book" makes it a duty to God.
Two Women living next door to each other in an apartment complex, one woman has a half dozen boyfriends who drop by and have sex with her every day, the other woman has sex with one guy, perhaps someone who is physically disabled and unable to attract a mate but who is nonetheless human, having the same desires as anyone else, she has sex with this man one time a week for which she is paid so she can feed her childtren. under our current law in most states, guess who would get arrested? Our laws are insane! what immorality is being prevented by arresting someone for selling something that the majority of women give away for free.?

I would be extremely interested to see where it says anything but the opposite of this without taking it out of context to the entire message.
on topic, if they ban indoor prostitution, won't they just go outside? used to live in NV and it's not that great. the women aren't the hotties playboy/hollywood leads you to believe and plan on dropping A LOT of cash, like hundreds. it's cheaper/easier/safer to buy a woman dinner and tell her you're looking for your soulmate so you can settle down, but only after you open your clinic for stray puppies.
It's illegal in RI for outside prostitution, but not indoor. That's why there is debate. Apparently, they were trying to crack down on the "street walkers" and somehow created this loophole where indoor, private prostitution is still legal.
This quote is in Leviticus.....along with other popular hits, like any man who sleeps ( as in share the same bed, not just sex), with his wife while she is "unclean", aka menstruating, shall be put to death. Another goodie says it is OK to kill a woman who has been raped, or to kill a child who is disobediant.
Ummm...let's see...also, it's not a good idea for a man to sleep with another man.
But yes....it's in there. Get a Bible, go to the back and check your reference for "whore"...there are several passages, but dongle quoted it almost verbatum.
No hate intended, I'm sure. But a good litmus test for how we ALL pick and choose from the Bible...forcusing on the things we find common ground with, while discounting all the rest.
I'd get you the exact quote, but I accidently left my Bible at choir practice. I'm sure you must have a copy somewhere. If not, how do you know what's in there?
the self gratification me-me-me crowd at it again.
legalize dope, legalize prostitution, to bleep with the impact on society and children.
but pushers never care about children.
they don't want THEIR kids to grow up to become dope addicts and hookers, JUST YOUR KIDS!! wow. too much dope made their minds unable to think right, just light up the dope bong and screw around, and that will make the world better. maybe GROW UP instead!!!
it's cheaper/easier/safer to buy a woman dinner and tell her you're looking for your soulmate so you can settle down, but only after you open your clinic for stray puppies.
yes. and funny. but,
"I'll only sleep with my boyfriend/husband if he buys me jewelry, takes me on vacations, etc. When he doesn't give me these things, I cut him off. If he doesn't mow the yard, I'll refuse to sleep with him."
This misogynistic attitude toward women is why protitution is illegal. Men oppress women.
I agree. every time a man takes a woman on a date, it is EXPECTED he pay the tab, and she gets to pick where that tab is. the movies, dinner, the opera, and such. and trust me, they DON'T pick McDonalds and the matinee show. after marriage. things get much worse. the size of house, the kind of car, the trips and vacations.... then they have to put up with "PMS" blamed attacks, the continuious banterings, and such. even a good marriage has this, even to a small degree. and we still live in a society where if the woman finds she is not "getting enough" of something, she divorces him and takes what he has.
final words: men don't pay prostitutes to have sex, men pay them to leave afterwards.
L.J.Rhodes: I totally agree with you. One thing you for got though. Then... when she files for a divorce, she pillages you for as much as she can get!!! Really, what's the difference between that and a Prostitute anyway? Ok, you got me... the Prostitute doesn't whine and complain as much. You pay her and you go on your merry way. That'sthe difference. My Bad.
In the long run, renting a Prostitute costs way less, and you still have your dignity afterwards!!
It's because when you make money, the gov't want a part of that, so called tax. When you are doing that behind doors, there is no way possible that the gov't can control anything. A woman can have one night stand but can't have one night stand and get paid...That is dumb...
A bill that "gives protections" to human traffic victims... good one Rep. Joanne Giannini.
Um, yeah. Arresting them, dragging them through court and humiliation is help? Why can't they just slip them a business card with the phone number of help lines or a shelter? Open a communal house for victims of abuse or something. THAT would be help. But helping wasn't the goal in the first place was it? Helping women by arresting them, what a joke.
Stuff your religious idiot opinion up your ass. Do your own research - something religious idiots don't seem to do much of.
LOL wow - temper, temper!! Here and I even made a simple request with civility.
Well, that was a really intelligent response, Dongle. Hypocritical, aren't we? Guess your not smart enough to figure out that your initial quote was a religious opinion in and of itself?
And Pam Montgomery - There are plenty of things in the Bible that if you take them out of context of the whole message, can mean anything you want them to mean.
My response to Dongle was a simple request to cite the text he is paraphrasing as fact. To not be prepared to do so rendors the comment one more of ignorance than substance.
Left it at choir practice hhm? How convenient for you...
What's the difference between a woman who has a business of sleeping with a man for money vs a woman who openly seeks out a man with money to have a relationship with?
Same to me.
How is one made to be illegal and one is just considered "Gold Digging"?
I am always genuinely amazed at how issues of personal freedom (and/or economic laissez-faire, if that's your preference) seem to evoke so much confusion and hypocrisy. SEE, I'm a conservative Republican. To me, that stands for getting the government off my back and out of my business. D@mn right prostitution should be legalized and marijuana and buyin' booze on Sundays and leave my G*dd@mn cigarettes alone, too! Yet, if I turn on an idiot like Sean Hannity, I don't get personal freedom and individual responsibility, I get "a government of morals"!!!
And the Libs and D's are just as freakin' bad. Anti-death penalty and pro-abortion? Explain that one. Legalize marijuana and criminalize tobacco? WT...?
Here's the basic ethos which I propose:
(1) "An ye do no harm, do as ye will". Yeah, I know, it's the Wiccan formulation, but it's not all that far off what Jesus said and the Buddha said;
(2) Subject to #1, you should be free to do anything for which you are willing to take responsibility (no, you can't ride a bike without a helmet if you then expect Medicare to pay your ER bill for you);
(3) Government is composed of people and is consequently subject to the same passions, illogic, stupidity, ignorance, hypocrisy, biases and meddling inclinations which individuals exhibit and therefore should have limited capacity to inflict those weaknesses and failings on others.
(3) Anyone who actually wants to tell other people how to run their lives is definitionally unfit to do so.
If we adopt those principles, life would be a whole lot better and nobody would get upset if the friendly neighbor lady just happens to be "sellin' it" to strangers in her upstairs bedroom.
I wish you were president, I'm a libertarian and agree with EVERYTHING you said!
I hate the "no one thinks of the children" argument. Um, kids aren't dumb, they'll have sex, they'll drink, they'll smoke pot (which isn't addictive you idiot above who said it was) and they'll smoke cigs. And they'll do it while you (the parent) thinks that you have the most wonderful law abiding child in the world....
What are the three oldest thinks in human history?
1)Prostitution (right after the invention of barter and later money.)
2)Wine (As soon as early man could invent air tight containers)
3)Beer (As soon as early man could invent air tight containers)
**Archaeologists found a recipe for beer that dates from the time of the building of the pyraminds in Egypt--what approximately 2500 BC!! Prostitution also accured!!
The Moral zealots that want to keep trying to ban prostitution and spend millions in police resources are swimming up stream against a very strong, very old, and very persistant current. Legalize prostitution regulate it etc--that frees up tons of resources to fight REAL crime.
Thanks, IMV77 (Msg. #1.22), but I DON'T WANT to be President (see #4, supra.). I figure I'm doin' good to handle my own life. Don't want responsibility for yours.
you just adressed a VERY touchy comment. one that will be certainly be circulating around the police locker room for at least the next 2 years. I wonder what circulates around this officers bedroom. just a thought.
final words: I would hate to see what his wife and kids do next!
"(1) "An ye do no harm, do as ye will". Yeah, I know, it's the Wiccan formulation, but it's not all that far off what Jesus said and the Buddha said;"
"(3) Anyone who actually wants to tell other people how to run their lives is definitionally unfit to do so."
Didn't you recently make a post against legalizing same-sex marriage? Didn't you say that gay people oughtn't be gay? If so, I'm really confused as to what, exactly, you stand for.
the self gratification me-me-me crowd at it again.
legalize dope, legalize prostitution, to bleep with the impact on society and children.
Ric-621506, actually it is the "moral" crowd who is selfish. They want everyone (and their kids) to live by their rules and cannot stand it when the government won't enforce it for them!!! They use "personal responsibility" to blame people for not living up to their expectations. Well, here is an eye opener for you: we don't care how you want us to live!! We actually would prefer you shut up and leave us alone!!! That would truly be the unselfish thing to do!
Instead, you self indulgently try to push morals onto society and then get mad when people do not agree. Guess what bucko--the me-me-me crowd stares back at you when you look in the mirror. You might also meet a lot of them in your church (if you go). Don't worry though a lot of those people in church are not so self indulgent and do not wish to run everyone's lives for them. They actually LISTEN to what Jesus had to say. Imagine that?!
but pushers never care about children.
lol. I'm sure its the kids you care about. You know all those kids getting happy endings...because thats what this is about? Or no, wait. This is an issue regarding consenting adults. Perhaps you are commenting in the wrong seed. *points to the door*
they don't want THEIR kids to grow up to become dope addicts and hookers, JUST YOUR KIDS!! wow. too much dope made their minds unable to think right, just light up the dope bong and screw around, and that will make the world better. maybe GROW UP instead!!!
nobody wants their kids to be drug addicts and street hookers. Casual drug users and sexually active adults is much more the norm. Some people remain sober, but most at least drink, which is really a drug. Coffee drinkers and smokers use drugs too. In fact in modern society it is kinda hard not to take something every now and then.
Perhaps you should take your own advice and grow up!! Stop trying to run everyone's life and concentrate on your own. People are sick of buying what your peddling--and it smells like butt. That makes you a butt pusher! And you know what i don't think you really care about the kids, just your own self-righteousness.
Matt....that was precisely my point. When I see people quote the Bible to prove their point, ( my biggest beef is those who oppose gay marraige BECAUSE of the dictums in Leviticus)...fail to understand that if you pick one passage as God's law, then why not all?! It's the hypocrasy that gets me.
The Old Testiment is fraught with obsolete laws. These laws may have served the times, but things change...back then people were forbidden to eat pork...a wise law, but the parasite that made people very sick, and killed many, has been controlled through vaccination. Eating shellfish was banned because of Hepatitis, and because of pollution, is still a cause for concern. Cook your shrimp, and don't eat raw oysters and your should be fine.
Back on topic...vendors are require to carry permits. Drivers must have their liscense. If prostitution were legalized, it would cut back on forced prostitution, because all liscensed venders would have to go through a screening process. That way, they have a clean bill of health, we can be sure they have not been coerced into the trade, and help can be provided to those who are victims.
Look, I smoke cigarettes, and although I don't drink, I certainly don't care if you do. My husband loves beer almost as much as he loves me. Maybe I want to smoke pot, or get tattoos...maybe you do too. But that, or this topic doesn't affect me other than.....if you are not infringing on my rights, I have no reason to infringe on yours.
Actually, it pisses me off so many want to govern others behaviors while they are so unwilling or unable to govern their own. The reason I included the Bible passages is to put a mirror in front of people so they can see that what they are asking for may not be what they want.
I am a red letter Christian....means nothing to anyone except to me. You are my brother, and I accept you. I have no desire to judge you, and if there truly is a God....(and who knows for sure...I mean really), then it is his/her/ it's job to judge you, not mine... Mine is to make peace with you and allow you to live your life the way you see fit, unless I have to jump in to help someone you are hurting.
Go your own way, and allow others to do so.
And yes, it really is in the choir pit....(Gee, I hope no one steals it,) but then again it has my name embossed in gold on the front.
"I see all the uptown ladies and don't they look so fine, well they're just like me, but the men they see pay a lot more for their time." - Sammi Smith
it is the land of the free. a person should be able to stick whatever or whoever they want in their body. just don't come back to complain when it all backfires on you. your choice your consequences.
Thank you for the great idea !!! Federal taxation on prostitutes' income !!!! Plus I can force them to pay for my new health care plan while I'm at it !!! And Michelle can give the girls some fashion tips !!!
I still don't see how prostitution is the world's oldest profession. Hunters and gatherers are the two oldest professions in the world. In fact, motherhood should probably take the title.
If it's just a saying then it's wrong quite stupid.
ctpax .................... I think for it to be a "profession".....it means you get PAID..... when did hunter/gatherers/mothers, start getting "paid", for the work....... paid for sex..... must be number one...... and to be clear.... if its free, its legal... but if you pay, its illegal?????, have you noticed the only issue here is men trying to control.....AGAIN.!!!!!
Yes... I guarantee you that the 1st hunters got laid for food. Not trying to be misogynistic, but that's the way it is. Men hunted and killed large animals for food and clothing (something women would have had a much harder time doing).  Less capable men and/or women still had to survive, so they did other things to make themselves useful to the tribe/caravan.... one of them being... Yeah... sex...
I'm sorry but arguments like "when did hunter/gatherers/mothers, start getting "paid" and "I guarantee you that the 1st hunters got laid for food" just don't convince me. Your views are too simplistic if not uninformed. You guarantee me? And where did that guarantee come from and what is it based on?
It IS just an expression, one that my mother used and one that many others use. But, I think it has some basis in fact. Hunters/Gatherers did NOT get paid for what they did, they did it to support their community.
Sex, however, has been used in each and every way...I'm sure some smart woman, long before Mary Magdalen, traded something for it!
I have not researched this but the cost of arresting and prosecuting prostitution must be a fortune. How many man hours for the police to arrest and book the prostitutes, the total cost of public defenders to defend the prostitutes in court, the costs to the court system for docket time to hear and prosecute the cases, and the costs to house and feed the prostitutes in prison. In any case the pimps bail them out before the ink on the police report is dry. The total cost of all of this must be gigantic. Just legalize prostitution and regulate the "industry". Take the money and the resources saved and apply them to REAL crime and criminals.
Nope. Still not convincing. If and only if you define profession as strictly something you do for being paid MONEY then maybe there is a chance for an argument. Otherwise you don't stand a chance to prove that prostitution is the oldest profession on earth.
OK CTPAX, so it has to be for "Money"... well hehe you're right, there was no "money" in barter systems. So trading sex for food isn't really prostitution?
Hmmmm. I see a legal way around this... Prostitutes can trade sex for prepaid credit cards... As long as the cards have no monetart value, it should be legal, right?
Yes, that would solve all the world's problems, I'm so sure. That way we see even more young girls sold by their families to unscroupulous people who then transport them here and force them into prostitution. I won't even go into marijuana because most people who want to legalize it deny that it is actually more harmful than cigarette smoking dispite all the research to the contrary.
Thats what the Netherlands did. Virtually no rapes there and their jails aren't full of drugs users at 30K per year.
Same old same tired arguement "sex workers are really sex slaves sold into bondage, human trafficing etc...blah blah yada yada" That is a LIE. Other countries yes. I've been to Amsterdam, one of the girls I saw, I asked her about being forced into this and human trafficing. I was her last "John" of the day. Her answer was that is just propanganda from the religious right (they got that there too). I then walked her to her car which was a newer 7 series BMW! yeah, she's forced into this!
I've also been to "massage" places in R.I. those girls said the same thing "it's about the money" not that their slaves.
I'm a native Rhode Islander and I had no idea this was legal. In fact 6 years ago when I was still living there a "massage parlor" in the next town was closed down for prostitution. Oh well. They should leave it legal. Legalize drugs, prostitution, etc. Victimless crimes. If a person is desperate enough to have sex for money, I wouldn't want to add the pressure of an arrest.
My family is dutch and I visited Amsterdam about 2 1/2 year ago. It is one of CLEANEST city's I have ever been to. The people have been exposed to marijuana, alcohol and prostitution, and they do not abuse any of the above the way counties with prohibitions do!
My friend emily's step mother was born and raised in Amsterdam and wholeheartidly feels that legal prostitution genuinlly benifits society.
Yes, that would solve all the world's problems, I'm so sure. That way we see even more young girls sold by their families to unscroupulous people who then transport them here and force them into prostitution.
that's what happens in a black market industry. No rules, no cares. That is not what this is about.
I won't even go into marijuana because most people who want to legalize it deny that it is actually more harmful than cigarette smoking dispite all the research to the contrary.
Really? i think you need to substantiate your claim with some real evidence.
Two large studies reported no increase in death associated with the use of cannabis. Even diseases that might be related to long term cannabis use are unlikely to have a sizeable public health impact because, unlike users of tobacco and alcohol, most people who try cannabis quit relatively early in their adult lives, writes the author.
Exposure to smoke is generally much lower in cannabis than in tobacco cigarette smokers, even taking into account the larger exposure per puff. Existing studies do not support a link between the use of cannabis and heart disease, the leading cause of death in many Western countries, he adds. Furthermore, cannabis does not contain nicotine, a chemical contained in tobacco that is addicting and contributes to the risk of heart disease.
you are plain wrong Sick of party squabling. Feel free to post evidence, i refute BS on it frequently. I will not try to say it is harmless, but it should be legal, and regular cigarette smokers smoke way way more than regular pot smokers.
It's illegal because of the problems it causes with health and welfare. Worse than that, it also promotes human trafficking. As long as prostitution is legal, it makes it more enticing to kidnap and detain people against their will, transport them to the place where it is legal, and sell them to the highest bidder. That being said, all these groups that claim that they're trying to protect the woman that are victims of the trafficking are just making it worse by basically allowing it to happen and not giving the police any way to intervene. The woman are already afraid of talking, or they wouldn't be selling sex. Closing down these businesses is, at the moment, the best way to at least begin to stop the sex slave industry.
No, "Sick"....quite the contrary. Just look at Nevada's legal "ranches". They are regulated, tested regularly, and their rates of infection are almost non-existent. Law can be put on the books safeguarding against human trafficking - look at the suggestions in the above article. Further, there is a HUGE difference between a consenting adult who charges, and an exploited sex slave who has no choice - sure, can one, through abuses, become the other ? But what legal and/or moral activity cannot be perverted, abused or misused ? It simply is not "The American Way" to outlaw personal rights because others abuse them. To make consenting adults criminals, when the behavior, the oldest profession in the world and which can NEVER be stopped, is a waste of police resources, will only send "them" underground, and will deny the cash strapped states much needed revenue.
You Puritans just cant STAND anyone having a good time, can you ? You just cant allow other people rights that YOU think they dont deserve.
What the US really needs are laws that make those who get married - honor their vows to God and the Law. No divorce - prison sentences for those who violate the sanctity of the marriage contract.
So far you have commented concerning prostitution and marijuana. How about sources for your claims? Opinions are like A**holes, everybody has one. However if you come to debate, please bring sources to backup your "claims", otherwise it is just a comment and has no validity at all. If you want to make a point about something, do the research, quote your sources, and only use facts (you might try a little cross-referencing as well, one report or source does not make it so).. Everyone is a expert in their own mind. Opinions are useless....stop talking out of your.....

"God must really love stupid people, he made so many of them"
The Bible encourages Prostitution. Put your sperm in the belly of a whore - rather than put it on the ground - or some sort of "horse @!$%#" like that. Don't know why the Religious Idiots of this nation think Prostitution is a sin- their own "holy book" makes it a duty to God.
Tax it, regulate it.... make using underage, slave, or forced employees a life sentence for the culprits,,,, better to have people working there of free will and with medical supervision... as well a a taax that is more than policing it will cost...'AND mandatory health insurance for the ladies...insurance that will cover everything that may happen.... and make it a mandatory life entence for those operating without a license and following the rules.. to all sentences add a HUGE fine for violators....
otherwise you are just going to have freelancers, and slavery.. but it will be underground like it is now......
No outdoor prostitution is illegal. But just step into this phone booth right here and your all set. ONLY THE GOVERNMENT IS ALLOWED TO SCREW EVERYONE AND GET PAID FOR IT.
Body Shampoo and Table Showers...sounds like a pretty clean industry to me. I always thought prostitution was a bit of a dirty job, but I guess I was wrong! I guess as long as its clean
bunny ranch is freaking lame, undescribable. went there last summer. a bunch of ugly women, rates started around $1000 an hour. (left unfullfilled.) you can do better on craigslist.
I don't understand. Here we are trying to make prostitution illegal and all the time the Feminists are teaching young girls to marry three times in their lives. First to make babies, second to get someone to pay for them, and third to set up their retirement. Just yesterday an article in a popular woman's magazine, which by the way advertises how to have better sex and is sold at the checkout counter while men's magazines can't even be sold, advised women that since they are "still paid less for employment than men" that they should "marry for as much money as they can get and if they divorce to fleece the man for every penny he is worth". Now I don't know about you but isn't that prostitution! Here ;aw enforcement is trying to stop it and the woman's rights groups are encouraging it. In my opinion American Women have become nothing but overpaid prostitutes and maybe we should make marriage illegal and make them all work for a living on their backs. I used to respect women in this Country but I don't anymore and it all because of what you, the American woman, are doing. You had better wise up because you are the least liked people on the planet and foreign women are taking your men because they are kind to them but foreign men aren't looking for American Women. Thank God my mother and sisters came from another generation and have some self respect.
well said Dave, that's why I stopped messing with American woman years ago. Nothing but a bunch of gold diggers that want their ass's kissed all the time.
Thats why I go to Amsterdam twice a year. Every time I get the urge to "mess" with an American woman, I just put two hundred dollars (cost of a date or two) in my A'dam kitty. YOU WON'T BELIEVE WHAT I CAN GET FOR 150 EUROS!!!
Guys who think like that usually do so because women don't like them and the reason women don't like them is because they think like that. Kind of a vicious circle...
Having lived from Bangkok to Berlin and traveled more places still, I'm here to tell you that there are horrid women in every country and culture and of every race and religion and - yeah, there are great ones, too. If there is a blanket accusation to be laid against American women it's that they've allowed American men to degenerate into a feckless bunch of underachievers and now don't know what to do with them.
It's illegal because ugly, unattractive feminists can't get past the fact that no one wants to sleep with them even if they paid the clients. There is no reason to criminalize prostitution. The police should focus on Illegal immigration to thwart the Asian invasion of young women being sold into prostitution. American born women who choose to get into the sex trade for financial gain are not being subjected to human trafficking. That is a myth that tosses International methods of providing women in with our own countries version. No-one is coming here from thailand to sleep with underage girls, it;s the other way around. Blame other countries lax laws and there overall lack of respect that they have for women in general. In America, women are empowered and able to make the choice of profession usually without any co-ercion. Damn lady, how bad do you look when even the National organization for Women don;t want this law changed. Just curious, did you vote for Obama, you know change and Liberal ideas and such. This is what it entails folks. Free and Open. And keep your 1950's mentality to yourself as it applies to marijuana will you. If you want to talk about what is worse Smoking Cigs or Pot, they are both a walk in the park when compared to the death toll and health risks associated with ALCOHOL. No-one wants to ever go there though. How many Drivin while high charges to you hear about compared to DWI's.............
These lawmakers kill me, they have nothing better to do then jump on the "morality bandwagon"Â who the hell cares if someone wants to pay for sex, what these morons do not realize that is prostitution probably cuts down on other sexual crimes, i mean if some pervert needs to get his rocks off instead of going out and raping someone he may be obliged to pay for it
You would think the lawmakers would focus on more serious issues like maybe balancing their state budget, if they were smart they would legalize prostitution then place a freaking tax on it, like everything else
Example A: A man meets a woman for a date and voluntarily, spend X amount of dollars for her dinner, drinks, a show, whatever. Then, subsequently,  the two agree to have consensual sex of some sort vs.,
Example B: A man meets a woman for a date and voluntarily gives her cash and they consensually go direct to sex. Â
Example A is legal, example B is not. I'm confused, what's the difference? Seems to me in the second example if the woman were to simply pay taxes on the money she earned there is no issue.Â
So prostitution is up there with the seven deadliest according to politicians but all congress people utilize the profession? Is it a study or something??
You bet Whatsup-630760, and politicians taking money from the influence peddlers .. whoops ... I mean lobbyists is OK! And, CEO/CFOs that embezzle billions from their company--oh its only white collar crime. You and I if we steal a stapler from the very same corporation, were doing hard time. Go figure!
I have been wondering this for awhile: Other then the camera and producers/companies paying the "actors" what is the difference between porn and prostitution? Both industries get paid for it one just happens to have a permit?
Please don't attack me for the question it is just a question.
So, if you want to pay someone for sex, but don't want to get busted for prostitution, just make sure a camera is rolling to catch it on film.
The porn industry is a huge player in our economy, and I don't think it will be going out of business anytime soon. Maybe legal prostitution would follow suit.
If all non victim crimes where made legal, we would not need that many judges, and attorneys. After all, isn't our country run by Lawyers, that want to be sure they have enough work.Legalize Prostitution, Marijuana, and Gambling, regulate it, tax it, and keep it honest. Then use that money to go after everyone involved in, Mortgage Scams, Internet Scams, Credit Card companies, and Banks, that scrupulously change the rules, and rape the American People, which are! white collar Victim Crimes.
Why are we wasting taxpayers dollars on trying to stop prostitution? This is a simple business transaction. Someone is selling a service (sex) for a fee.
Rather than wasting taxpayer dollars to stop it, we should be licensing it and taxing it, to help bring in more money to offset the deficit.
There are way too many laws on the books that regulate the behavior of adults. In a truly free country, adults should be able to pay for sex, ride motorcycles without helmets, buy fireworks, etc.
Adults should have the right to make these decisions for themselves. The government needs to stay out of it.
You have a great point, BUT if wasting taxpayers dollars is the true issue who pays for the uninsured person without the helmet (where a helmet could have provided some security)? I'm thinking you and me in the end. And when your house burns down because your neighbor was shooting fireworks into the air...I smell a lawsuit (complete with judge and courtroom): more taxpayer dollars on the move. I love the idea, but it's more complicated than "everyone should be able to do whatever they want."
If I was the cop, I would have let her finish the job before arresting her....LOL. I thought in liberal RI, anything goes. And what is "indoor" prostitution? Is there any other kind?
Why not ARREST the (Johns) men who pay for these services? Post their names online and in the newspaper... plus post their pictures... If men/women did not pay for these services then they would not be in buisness... also get them for TAX Evasion and not having a buisness license for prostitution... oh most of their cliental are probally, political leaders, judges, lawyers, buisness travelers, preachers, etc... and if this does not work... Make a zoning law, provide buisness license for prostitutes, TAX THEM... create revenue and also have a posted membership for their CLIENTS on public notifications of members who use the services like this... oh but, the public would know who the (clients are) and who are usally hypocrites who hide in the shadows... just a thought...
Nobody in their right mind will go to a brothel if their name will published. So it follows that you would have the exactly the same problem of illegal prostitution on the streets. Nothing solved.
That's how it's done in Iowa. Just a few months ago they arrested a lawyer, a former state employee, a minister and a couple others and their names were in the paper. Funny how the woman's name wasn't, though. I'm sure she cut a deal.
If it were legal and licensed it would help everyone. Pay for the license both local government and health. Tax the business. When each woman is licensed they go through an interview to determine their age, health, nationality, citizen status etc. This system would make money for the locality, ensure against disease, make it easy to track the abusers who force women into the business through blackmail tactics and expose illegals. A win situation for everyone.
It would make it easier for the prostitutes to report any abuse since they wouldn't have to be worried about being arrested themselves. Can't see a good argument against legalizing it.
Sandy... how about you do what Jesus said and worry about your own soul. I worry about mine. I have my relatiohsip with God... we never discuss you...
If you claim to be such a good Christian (or whatever), you'd know that. No one can force you to commit a sin, are you worried that too much temptation would get to you? If so, maybe you should pray on that instead of trying to keep others from living their lives the best way they see fit.
If they're doing something wrong, God will work it out with them directly... I guarantee he won't need your intervention (or your permission).
Why is this illegal? If a woman wants to sleep with men for money then fine thats her buisness. Hell we have women who sleep around just because they want to and do so for free so why cant a woman make a living doing that. America.....land of the free, nuff said
"Indoor Prostitution Still Legal in RI"
Cite your source, please: book, chapter, verse. Pretty reasonable request, no?
dongle, take your religious hate somehwere else.
on topic, if they ban indoor prostitution, won't they just go outside? used to live in NV and it's not that great. the women aren't the hotties playboy/hollywood leads you to believe and plan on dropping A LOT of cash, like hundreds. it's cheaper/easier/safer to buy a woman dinner and tell her you're looking for your soulmate so you can settle down, but only after you open your clinic for stray puppies.
Stuff your religious idiot opinion up your ass. Do your own research - something religious idiots don't seem to do much of.
Didn't former president Bill Clinton make a speech in Rhode Island recently and say that it always had been one his "favorite places to visit" ???
Cmon,
It's illegal in RI for outside prostitution, but not indoor.
See you Sunday!!!!
the self gratification me-me-me crowd at it again.
legalize dope, legalize prostitution, to bleep with the impact on society and children.
but pushers never care about children.
they don't want THEIR kids to grow up to become dope addicts and hookers, JUST YOUR KIDS!! wow. too much dope made their minds unable to think right, just light up the dope bong and screw around, and that will make the world better. maybe GROW UP instead!!!
yes. and funny. but,
This misogynistic attitude toward women is why protitution is illegal.
There goes the unemployment rolls again. UP! UP! UP!
the busybody crowd at it again... Don't actually research an issue before spouting off your nonsense.
(1) "An ye do no harm, do as ye will". Yeah, I know, it's the Wiccan formulation, but it's not all that far off what Jesus said and the Buddha said;
(2) Subject to #1, you should be free to do anything for which you are willing to take responsibility (no, you can't ride a bike without a helmet if you then expect Medicare to pay your ER bill for you);
(3) Government is composed of people and is consequently subject to the same passions, illogic, stupidity, ignorance, hypocrisy, biases and meddling inclinations which individuals exhibit and therefore should have limited capacity to inflict those weaknesses and failings on others.
(3) Anyone who actually wants to tell other people how to run their lives is definitionally unfit to do so.
If we adopt those principles, life would be a whole lot better and nobody would get upset if the friendly neighbor lady just happens to be "sellin' it" to strangers in her upstairs bedroom.
oldefarte,
I wish you were president, I'm a libertarian and agree with EVERYTHING you said!
JD Still: Soo, How long have you been physically disabled?
Thanks, IMV77 (Msg. #1.22), but I DON'T WANT to be President (see #4, supra.). I figure I'm doin' good to handle my own life. Don't want responsibility for yours.
Well, you'd have my vote!
Logic, it's a beautiful thing, and it sounds like more and more people are starting to grasp it's concept...
All my life, I've never been able to play concert piano or professional basketball ! ,(oh, and I like your movies!).
Maybe they should start in the Senate.
I thought legal indoor prostitution was called marrige?
Erm... I didn't think officers were allowed to let it go this far?
Job perks I guess lol City pays for a hand-job?
tempest,
you just adressed a VERY touchy comment. one that will be certainly be circulating around the police locker room for at least the next 2 years. I wonder what circulates around this officers bedroom. just a thought.
final words: I would hate to see what his wife and kids do next!
oldefarte,
"(1) "An ye do no harm, do as ye will".
Imagine that?!
lol. I'm sure its the kids you care about. You know all those kids getting happy endings...because thats what this is about? Or no, wait. This is an issue regarding consenting adults. Perhaps you are commenting in the wrong seed. *points to the door*
nobody wants their kids to be drug addicts and street hookers.
Pam, great post.
Exactly.
The world's oldest profession! Just legalize and regulate it, imagine the revenue for the states!!
But, then, it would lose part of the thrill, perhaps??
RACHEL...
Thank you for the great idea !!! Federal taxation on prostitutes' income !!!! Plus I can force them to pay for my new health care plan while I'm at it !!! And Michelle can give the girls some fashion tips !!!
Your friend,
Barack Obama
Yeah... sex...
tony...
Was that really necessary?
I'm sorry but arguments like "when did hunter/gatherers/mothers, start getting "paid" and "I guarantee you that the 1st hunters got laid for food" just don't convince me. Your views are too simplistic if not uninformed. You guarantee me? And where did that guarantee come from and what is it based on?
Books are your friends guys.
... Human nature... studying human civilizations and human history... Human Psycology....
Depends on which books you read... I've read many... Human sexuality didn't just pop up in the '60s.
Unless you only read the politically sanitized revisions of history books...
CTPAX-
It IS just an expression, one that my mother used and one that many others use. But, I think it has some basis in fact. Hunters/Gatherers did NOT get paid for what they did, they did it to support their community.
Sex, however, has been used in each and every way...I'm sure some smart woman, long before Mary Magdalen, traded something for it!
Prostitution is the oldest profession in that you were being paid (in a form of currency not trading) for a SERVICE not a PRODUCT.
Hunter/Gatherers were nomads and were part of small groups of people to feed yourself and your "family".
MMMmmmm, pussy tax.
Would it be a flat tax, or would it by per stroke?
Make it legal, then tax it. Legalize prostitution, AND marijuana, and our country's economic problems are a thing of the past.
One word: Amsterdam.
Here's a link to some information you'll find very educational.
We should tax our vices instead of our needs.
Andy,
My family is dutch and I visited Amsterdam about 2 1/2 year ago.
I think prostitution is sick, demeaning and idiotic. But I can see the benefits of legalizing it.
Let the sickos that want it have it and by all means collect taxes and regulate the hell out of it.
Be sure it gets taxed like cigarettes as it does pose possible health risks.
that's what happens in a black market industry. No rules, no cares. That is not what this is about.
Really? i think you need to substantiate your claim with some real evidence.
http://www.webmd.com/lung-cancer/news/20060523/pot-smoking-not-linked-to-lung-cancer
http://norml.org/index.cfm?Group_ID=6891
and finally a third for you. I can do this all day. http://www.healthcentral.com/drdean/408/60640.html
you are plain wrong Sick of party squabling.
Thank you Your Taliban Highness!
Why are so many of these "spas" Asian? These women are sex slaves from Korea, China, Taiwan and other areas of East Asia.
If prostitution were legal, this type of slavery would be far more common. Maybe in your neighborhood too.
dongle... great idea! I'd vote for that!
Sick,
So far you have commented concerning prostitution and marijuana.
Â
"God must really love stupid people, he made so many of them"
Sick... your views are 100% refuted by history. Prohibition being the last great ban by US lawmakers that didn't last.
Even with drunk driving and the likes... the US is MUCH safer with legal alchohol that it would have been or would be w/ alchohol remaining illegal.
Can you immagine the war against Bud Light!
Don't feed dongle, he is a troll.
Average Joe, you are so right. BTW i loved the last quote.
I meant a mandatory life sentence and fines for those who do not follow the rules....
I am so confused - so is "outdoor prostitution" still OK????? I would think it would be the other way around!!
No outdoor prostitution is illegal. But just step into this phone booth right here and your all set. ONLY THE GOVERNMENT IS ALLOWED TO SCREW EVERYONE AND GET PAID FOR IT.
Peed-off, by far the best and most accurate comment!
Body Shampoo and Table Showers...sounds like a pretty clean industry to me. I always thought prostitution was a bit of a dirty job, but I guess I was wrong! I guess as long as its clean
Just as long as those aren't Table Golden Showers.
haha, unless your paying extra.
lawmakers again telling the common man that they know better than them and we all need to live by their beliefs.
get this idiot lawmakers, both local state and national out of there and put people in there who will go with the constituition.
if the government could tax prostitutes, then it would be legal. but they cannot tax it, so they deem it illegal.
Bunny Ranch Nevada....... No More to Say!
bunny ranch is freaking lame, undescribable. went there last summer. a bunch of ugly women, rates started around $1000 an hour.
Whoa, Dave, that is some SERIOUS misogyny!
I thought everyone would enjoy this educational link:
These lawmakers kill me, they have nothing better to do then jump on the "morality bandwagon"Â who the hell cares if someone wants to pay for sex, what these morons do not realize that is prostitution probably cuts down on other sexual crimes, i mean if some pervert needs to get his rocks off instead of going out and raping someone he may be obliged to pay for it
You would think the lawmakers would focus on more serious issues like maybe balancing their state budget, if they were smart they would legalize prostitution then place a freaking tax on it, like everything else
Â
Actually rape is more about power and control then about sex. Prostitution, legal or illegal, hs no effect on rape except to provide an easy target.
Okay, let me see if I have this straight:
Go figure!

Maybe Newsvine will allow that? SHEESH!
you sure have tenacity, andy..and finally suceeded...interesting web site.
I hate to lose, and hate being censored even more! lol
I have been wondering this for awhile: Other then the camera and producers/companies paying the "actors" what is the difference between porn and prostitution? Both industries get paid for it one just happens to have a permit?
Please don't attack me for the question it is just a question.
Because it has always been that way. (Standard answer when noone knows).
Actually, the porn industry is protected under the 1st Amendment of the Constitution, prostitution is not.
maybe the answer is to charge an audition fee... and say it is for costs related to producing some movie???? Then you could call it an art form.....
So, if you want to pay someone for sex, but don't want to get busted for prostitution, just make sure a camera is rolling to catch it on film.
The porn industry is a huge player in our economy, and I don't think it will be going out of business anytime soon. Maybe legal prostitution would follow suit.
Actually that is a good tough question. I can't come up with a good answer.
I've wondered about that for a while myself...
Where do I apply to get that undercover job?
At Barney Frank's DC office
If it happens in the back room of a 7-11 it's indoor. If it happens on the pile of crates behind the 7-11 it's outdoor.
leave 7-11 out of this! (LOL, my wife is at work...at 7-11....hmmm, that pile of crates was lookin mighty hot.....)
How can you "help" everyone by eroding two souls! This is no win, win situation.
On the other hand, why not legalize prostitution? The state is trying for same-sex marriage, and a sin is a sin is a sin!
Sandy... how about you do what Jesus said and worry about your own soul.
