Good Date Line. See what happens in Vegas doesn't always stay in Vegas. WTG Chris Hansen. Great job. I know it takes along time with the under cover work and all but do hope you do some more. I like when the people get to see the actual video tape of them selves. Then they know there realy in trouble. Real good work.

Damn! I used to know that chick who stole the car - Allison Hunt. It was 10 years ago, and yes, I was doing dope too . . . Who would've thought she would STILL be doped up, STILL have her kid, AND now be breaking MORE laws! I'll bet that spun @!$%# was true to her word too, and did whatever it took to get her ass out of trouble, incluging turning on her dumbass favorite dealer. What a piece of work! Thanks Chris for doing it again, and showing us that no matter how much we evolve as people, there will always be scum bringing the average right back down!

At one point in the show you showed the undercover "prostitute's" face without blurring it. Pretty lady who may have to find new work within the force from now on. How many people employed by Dateline and NBC looked at this before it aired? Unfortunately for this officer, not enough.

I would not have expected anything less from Chris Hansen and Dan Slepian! I am amazed at how warmly these people greeted Chris, while they were under arrest! It just goes to show: Everybody loves Chris Hansen!

The people of Dateline did a good job however, the portion about car theft bordered on ludicrous! To see a police officer state that Vegas is a bad place to steal cars made me laugh out loud and then get extremely angry! I was in Vegas for a week attending a Safety Convention back in Ffebruary. My son, a commercial diver and 20 years of age was in the process of moving himself from Washington State (where he worked as a commercial diver), to Louisiana to hire on with a diving company down here. He packed all of his belongings into his Acura which he had poured his heart and soul into. Things like his computer, his large, flat screen TV, his dive equipment, all of his dive certification paperwork, his clothes, a camera, pictures he has collected and taken over the years, money and a hundred other things that an All American, hard working good young man aquires by the age of twenty. He arrived at my hotel (Mandalay Bay) to spend a few days with me before driving the rest of the way to our house in Louisiana. He arrived at approximately 2:00 A.M. on Monday morning. He parked his car in the Mandalay Bay Hotel Parking garage directly beneath a security camera and right in front of an elevator. At 8:00 P.M. that very same night he went to his car to retrieve something and discovered his car was gone. He came rushing back into the hotel room crying and very upset. We called Hotel Security ad the Vegas Police. Hotel Security was a joke! They showed up about an hour after we called and told us that we could not review the tape due to Security reasons and that they would probably get around to viewing it tomorrow and would let us know when they had done so and then left. The police showed up finally and i must tell you that the officer was very proffesional and very truthful. He explained to us while my son filled out paperwork that cars were stolen right out of hotels all the time and it was the number one crime in Vegas. he said he hated vegas because everyone there was either involved with thievery, drugs or prostitution. He said that the only people on the streets were hookers, pimps, thieves, murderers and tourists. he told us that he would review the tape and call us and let us know what he saw. He then gave us a "case officers name", told us to call him (the case worker) tomorrow and departed. We never did hear back from him. And when my son tried to call the next day (Tuesday) he was told that the case officer was not in and did he wish to leave a message. My son did leave a message, about fifteen of them after calling repeatedly between Tusday morning and Thursday morning. During this time my son was cruising the strip in my rental looking for his car. He went into every pawn shop he could find to see if he could identify any of his belongings but none of this panned out. Hotel security never called us back either and after we called them a dozen times they told us that they had given the tape to the police. Finally Thursday morning my son called again to the case officer and guess what? He wasn't there. but then my son went down to the station and guess what? The guy WAS there! When my son spoke to him he informed my son that he was not even aware of him or his "case"! My son spent an hour and a half downloading these dispicable "public servants' on what had happened and where he had been and looked. The officer admitted that he had not seen any tape. My son left the precinct that day dismayed. That Thursday afternoon my son was called and told that his car was at a tow yard in Northern Vegas. We drove to the yard. His car was totally stripped and all of his belongings were gone. They took everything including the seats, engine, transmission....everything. When we were leaving the woman at the yard had the audacity to tell us that we needed to pay for the towing fee! Yeah right! I raised all of my children to be good Americans and to always do the right thing and to respect the law. I retired from being a US Navy Diver after 26 years of faithful service in 2006. After that ordeal, my beliefs are destroyed and shattered and so are my sons. And that isn't all this ordeal affected my whole family. My two little girls asking why someone would steal their "Bubbas" car. Asking why the bad men were not arrested. The whole thing sickens me. And that whole town/city sickens me. It was a life changing event for us. And then........Dateline comes out with this production which I am sure they believed in and slam! like getting hit by a truck! It brought all of that helplessness, all of those feelings welling back up and i am absolutely livid! Not with Dateline but with Las Vegas P.D., the Hotel Mandalay Bay and thier joke of a security dept. and with the moronic woman at the tow yard! These people did not give one care about my sons plight or the recovery of his car! Hell, they didn't even pretend to! Then to see this officer on Date Line, come into my living room on the TV and tell me and the Nation that "Las Vegas is a bad place for people to steal cars"! Whatever! Seems like a greta place to me as nobody cares! To any and all that read this post. Stay away from Las Vegas! Far, far away and don't even think about visiting and tell your children and friends the same! My son was out of work for 4 months due to his lost gear and certifications and lost self esteem, money but most importantly he lost faith. Faith in our justice system, in our uniformed officers. Frankly, he lost faith in humanity as a whole as did the rest of my family except for my two youngest daughters. But believe me, we will let them know when they are old enough to understand, how corrupt , innefective, lazy, unorganized, uncaring and unconcerned they are!

            Signed,

A very concerned and confused veteran

The statement of Vegas being a bad place to steal a car was laughable. My son restored a Honda and went out of his way to keep it clean, paying twice as much for some parts and going to known legitimate dealers to make sure all the parts were not stolen. When the police officer pulled him over without a cause, he asked to look under the hood. My son, having nothing to hide and being particularly pleased with his work, agreed. I have always taught my children to be cooperative with police (a practice that I no longer endorse). I have naively believed all my life that the police officer was a friend to the law abiding citizen. A short time later he was left of the curb while metro stole his car under the guise of some questionable legal requirements. That is just the tip of the iceburg. I am a law abiding citizen living in Vegas for 30 years. Every year I trust the Metro P.D. less. They are out of control. I truly believe protecting the citizens has lost it's cause in the effort for Metro P.D. to make a name for themselves. I feel sorry for the few officers who serve for the right reasons.

I have been going to Vegas for 20 years and my only advice is to stay on the strip in the hotels and have a great time. The outskirts of the Vegas strip are extremely shady. I have had friends get caught up in all the hype of L.V. and move there, only to move back to Wis after a few months. It is a GREAT place to visit but the place is a magnet for any kind of lowlife you can imagine.

This was a very interesting and sad episode. It was interesting to see how many of these criminals seemed pretty regular as opposed to scary thug types. It was also sad to see that these people make their way through life by telling lies and stealing from others. I give the counterfeiter some credit for being clever and paying attention to detail. He probably could have made a legit living by applying those skills to some other line of work. Perhaps with one exception, it seemed all of the crooks continued to lie even after they were shown the video. Amazing!

I own a nightclub so the part dealing with the bill launderer was interesting. It shows the problem with simply marking your bills with the fake bill pen. If you however hold your bills up to the light you don't need to be able to see the denomination because each bills strip is located in a different area on each denomination. I hope this helps more business owners, simply train your staff to also look for the strip, making sure they don’t confuse it with the shadow of the copied strip.

I just watched Dateline about how retailers are stealing winning lottery ticket money from customers in the US.

In Canada, we have to sign the back of every ticket before getting them checked; winners or losers. They won't check them if they are not signed. It's law here. Then the clerk returns the piece of paper that tells you what you've won. This law could help you!

I'm the type that has sort of wanted to do something shady but because I already stick out in a crowd because of physical characteristics I instinctively know better. But I do enjoy watching other dummies getting busted even more, so two thumbs up for the hard work put into investigating and nabbing various crooks because it makes for good entertainment and breeds others to try being successful undesirables in a already corrupt nation.

Here's a suggestion I'm sure would bring a much larger TV audience and public support; begin nabbing deadbeats that misrepresent being disabled and insurance fraud. With the economy in bad shape brings unemployment and the opportunity to exploit health care insurance which by the way effects more lives than a few perverts in chat rooms or con artist and thieves.
