Russia will rebuild its Soviet-era network of polar stations and use its icebreaker fleet to help support its claim to the vast resources of the Arctic, the Kremlin's point man for Arctic issues said Wednesday.

We've succeeded in spreading our troops so thin, that everybody is chumping us now. Where's this wise miltary leadership we have. I think we better bring our troops home, start a massive defense spending effort and be prepared for war like the Germans did in WWII. Don't get me wrong, there was nothing right about Germany in WWII, It's just the jump they got on us almost sank us. It's a mathematical certainty that war is coming. You can smell it on somedays. I think we might be overmatched at the present. Russia is not the only nation daring us to reaspomd right now. Oh well, it doesn't matter what I think, the government is going to do as it pleases. I think Biblical revelation is coming to pass. I really do, and I'm no scholar. We need to stop tslking and start preparing

>> everybody is chumping us now

How so? Do you suggest that Russia doesn't have rights there? Then by extension the US and Canada don't have rights there either.

>> start a massive defense spending effort

$500B + separate cost of Iraq and Afghanistan war doesn't qualify as "massive" anymore?

>> jump they got on us almost sank us

How? There was never any direct threat from Germany to the US. The first major US offensive on the ground was in 1944, when it became clear the USSR has won the war, and that was solely to prevent them from "going further" and occupying all of Europe.

>> It's a mathematical certainty that war is coming

Only if you want it. There's certainly no shortage of weapons on the Russian end.

    dmitry,

You forgot the little things called North Africa, Italy, Sicily. Not many Russians there. By the way, when did Russia declare war on Japan? 1945 wasn't it? Foolish rhetoric from you, and your cleverly veiled threat. A tiger, with no teeth you are. Besides, if you war does come, someone else, a proxy, will start it. In the end, everybody dies.

Why wouldn't they declare a war on Japan on 1945? With Hitler defeated, they wanted to grab a few islands off the coast of Japan to guarantee safe passage of Soviet military ships. This is why those islands, even though they're deserted, are still not returned to Japan, which in turn is why de jure Russia is still in a state of war with them.

      >> You forgot the little things called North Africa, Italy, Sicily

Are you seriously comparing that to the Eastern Front? That was a freakin' cakewalk in comparison, and majority of the operations there were air raids.

      >> Foolish rhetoric from you

One thing you Americans fail to understand is that there are very few places on Earth where you can open doors with your feet, and Russia is not one of them. And that's a good thing, since Russia is so rich with natural resources that if it didn't have nuclear weapons, Dubya would surely find some "weapons of mass destruction" there and attack. Therefore in this case you will have to negotiate, which has never been your forte.
