It's good to see that the sour economy isn't effecting the royal couple. Last week NY this week Paris, and yet unemployment is at close to 10%. I am glad to see "date night" for the Obama's has not only stopped, it has gone way upscale.

Paris is a beautiful city. Unequaled by none at night. This trip has me revved up for a return visit to the "city of lights." We stayed at the Best Western Derby Hotel (near the Eiffel tower). I hope they enjoy themselves.

Weekly 'date nights' is probably one of the ways how the President and the First Lady have kept the romance fresh in their strong marriage as a family tradition. President Bush made many trips abroad as part of his duties as Head of State. He he is far richer than Barack Obama. President Obama does receive a salary for his service to our nation, it is unreasonable to believe that he can afford a night out with his own wife?

If the new president takes his wife out on the town as often as you say, I think he and the first lady deserve it. The position of President is high pressure because of the weight of each presidential decision, and extremely stressful. Where does it say, in the Constitution that the president and his wife can not have one night off a week?

The actual expenses of flying him and his family didn't cost anything more, but the associated costs of his family travelling with him did increase. There is additional security for the first lady and first kids, costs for daycare while they are out on the town, etc. So yes, even if they did pay out of their own pockets (which I highly doubt), there were still additional expenses for dragging the family along on this boondoggle.

As for people being called with their middle name being disrespectful, I don't necessarily agree that it borders on disrespect any more than the past prez being called just by his middle initial. It does not work that way. I know that from experience, not watching soundbites. All receipts go through the government budget office. You are correct in saying that the president is never "off-duty" but there is business-related and personal expenses. In this case, since the First Lady was an invited guest to the D-Day ceremonies, her travel back and forth and corresponding security was covered as business related. Both of them went on personal as soon as those ceremonies were over, but their travel back, even a different times, was also covered (they do have to come home). The expenses they incurred during their personal time, from the end of the D-Day ceremonies to their flight home, is sorted and billed to them. This includes the hotel room, their food expenses, their children's needs and wants, etc.

The mother-in-law's health care has been upgraded, at the Obama's expense, just like the trainer/handler for their dog is also their responsibility (I am not comparing "nanny" to the dog, please understand).

No one takes out any wallets, generally, except for leaving gratuities, movies tickets (usually bought by the individual in advance), museum admissions, shopping, etc. Regular bills are collected by the member of the traveling staff responsible for this, and recorded on the appropriate forms after the trip is completed, submitted to the budget office, and then bills are issued as needed. Senior administration officials can either have these deducted from their personal accounts or they can pay them directly. Usually nowadays, it is an electronic deduction.

This system has been in place for decades. Gray areas are decided by the budget office. This was exactly how Governor Palin was determined to be fiscally liable for the expenses of her children's travel. So yes, elected officials do pay for expenses not directly related to government business. These people have a lot of their own money, so it is not a problem for them to pay their own way.

Since when has Obama ever cared what the Constitution says? PINCH - You're missing the point. I've been on business trips myself, but couldn’t afford to take my family - I didn’t try to pawn it off on the company to pay for their expenses either. The point is during the current economic times, this looks very, very bad to most Americans If we weren't running massive deficits with Obama's current spending, and the country was in good economic shape, I would have a lot less to complain about. I entirely agree with you. I too would like to be able to afford to take my family to Paris for a nice one-day holiday even. I can't and will probably never be able to do so.

But the fact remains - there are plenty of people, even in these times who can. They are even now off with their children on cruises, at theme parks, and yes, even on overseas vacations. I have relatives who are now touring the British Isles with their children and all their grandchildren.

I don't see the usefulness of begrudging those who have, and they always have and always will be with us, what they can and cannot do with their own money. Do I have a wee bit of envy in my soul too? Absolutely. But I also hope that all of them, including the Obamas, enjoy the trips they have paid for (short as the president's was), that the children remember it as a wonderful experience, and that everyone has a good time.

You need to do a little research before you post untrue rumors. Michelle Obama's license to practice law was not revoked. In order to stay in practice, you must attend a certain number of classes each year and pay fees.

This is the same in many professions. if you are not going to need the license, because you are changing jobs, profession, having a child, etc., you can request that your license be placed on inactive status, which means you do not have to take the required classes or pay the dues. She did this when she changed jobs. Obama did this when he began his presidential campaign. You can request a reinstatement at any time in the future and reactivate your license almost immediately. Most politicians do exactly that when elected to a position that does not require their law license be active (most of them), and then reactivate when they leave office and wish to return to private practice.

Regardless of how you may feel about a particular person in the political arena, it is really unfair to insinuate something very negative about that person which is so far from the truth.

As for Obama travelling, I've already stated - numerous times - that I understand he needs to travel to perform his duties as President. My issue is with his family going, which was not required. This is extra expense that was not necessary. Obama was just trying to squeeze out yet another free family vacation during a time of massive economic distress, which has been made massively worse by his own actions since he's been in office.

You cannot deny that there was extra expense in his taking his wife and kids, and you cannot deny that the economy has become much, much worse since he's been in office. This point is undeniable, so there is no point in your trying to argue with it.

What I find really entertaining is that the people who oppose obama are labeled as whiners and those supporting obama can't see the obvious. The press has labeled this his Apology Tour and the supporters are against that label also. Yet, the way I see it, he is still whining about the way the country was when he "inherited" it. So here he is on his whining tour while wining and dining his family in foreign countries. What I find hard to follow is when the country took such a drastic downturn between the time he was parading around the COUNTRY asking for votes and the time he took the oath of office. It astounds me that he is now parading around the WORLD telling all of the leaders who will give him the time of day that he inherited all the country's problems. At the same time, when he makes one of his stateside campaign speeches, he is telling the American public we need to unite to get past this time of financial insecurity. Telling us to do unite by driving a wedge between the opposing political leanings.

But he is a true American. He has the same attitude that the majority of Americans possess. Blame others for your predicament. Thus my mantra - It's your fault I'm an idiot.

One day, hopefully, he may gain enough insight to actually be a leader instead of just a figurehead. But that will never happen as long as he plays the Blame Game. When he realizes that he asked to be put in that position, he may accept ownership and try to correct the problem.

I do have hopes that the Republicans can change and embrace fiscal responsibility, as well as create some new sense of public service in their current members, where they work for the people again, and not just for their own devices. I will also add that I feel that the Democrats are much too far gone to adopt any such changes given their endorsement of the radical changes which are currently being adopted. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

It means to bring charges, not nessicarily removal from office. However, you are correct he has to be presiding as the POTUS. (at least I can admit when I make a mistake) :). To bad we cant find real representitives that do that. And don't start the preaching that Obama has done it, he has only said something when he got caught at it, to cover his ass. Not to be humble.
