The former police sergeant was arrested Thursday and charged with the murder of his third wife, Kathleen Savio, but his lawyer said, "This is a weak, circumstantial case at best." Peterson is also a suspect in the disappearance of his fourth wife, Stacy Peterson.
Drew Peterson arrested - but will it stick?

It is a sad state when a husband is the automatic suspect in a wife's dissaperence. Yes, there is circumstantial evidence, but so far I have not seen any real evidence. If he did it, or if he did not, it say more about how judges do not follow the Illinois law in divorce cases. When a person feels it is easier to kill the spouse, then divorce them, the system is wrong. Having gone thru a divorce myself, and appealing the property and child care, I know for a fact firsthand that the Illinois statues were not followed. The judge even told me, 2 months before the divorce trial that she has the kids living with her and he was not going to move them back to live with me. The judge just divided the property 50/50, in violation of state statues, the part about contribution.
the only circumstantial evidence is that they were married and divorced. Who knows. It looks bad but they really don't have any evidence. As It stands now a judge will definitely entertain a motion to dismiss before a jury is even seated
Rob....So lets get this right, "if he did it" it is completely understandable to murder a woman because a divorce judge issues an order that the other spouse "might" feel is his only way to keep property. Let alone in the Peterson case, same set of circumnstances, same situation, same outcome...Give me a break!!! This man wants to control and manipulate everything around him, just look at what he has done with the Press. He thinks he is smarter than most law enforcement and actually anyone. Perhaps a Grand Jury will Indict him on evidence the public does not know about.
Rob: I think you should do alittle research regarding what the second autopsy of the third wife revealed after she was exhumed. I have followed this closely and this guy is a scum bag from day 1. I believe that sooner or later they will find hard evidence to convict him despite his stealthy and shrewd knowledge of how to attempt to outwit the "system".
Well Rob I guess it's just as sad a state when something happens to a husband they look at the wife as a suspect. This method of investigation is not new...really. ~G
If he did it, he should be put in jail, just like any other criminal. But that was not the point of my post. I was trying to say how unfair the legal system is to the major breadwinner in a family. Statues say that the property is divided based upon contribution, including the contribution of a homemaker. In the Peterson case, I have no first hand knowledge of who earned what. In my case, we both worked, I did ALL the contribution to assets, both in money and as about half of the homemaker stuff, and the judge divided everything 50/50. If one person is a full-time homemaker, a 50/50 asset split is probally just fine, but not when both work. If the judges would rule in a fair way then perhaps the Peterson case would not be the news it is.
I hope that explains what I was trying to say up there a little better.
Rob, you said that you had children, right? And that you both worked. Who gave birth to the children, took care of them, fed them and you, did the laundry, cleaned the house, ran the errands with the children and paid attention to you? Your WIFE did, right?
Your post reeks of self-centeredness in that you want to deprive the mother of your children (who has custody of them) the resources to carry on.
Who would you investigate when a wife or husband is killed? The spouse. It goes both ways.
I am sorry that you are in such a negative space right now. I hope that you will come to see that the children are the main thing that you can focus on. Be good to them. Keep your ill feelings towards your wife out of your relationship with your children.
hey, this man was working as a former ranking policeman..he is quite aware of the In's and out, and the leading edge of the system..obliviously, he knows how to manipulate the system and still receive the special treatment, the system/ fellow police give each other..we know forensics can be utilized to a very thorough investigation of all the dead wives..his actions were definitely morbid psychotic..another Henry Vlll !! kill your wives at will, how pathetic..hang him, from a tall Oak Tree !!!...........
PatA
Aside from giving birth and paying attention to me (I did pay attention to her - what is the difference?), I did about 50% of everything you listed. Maybe more of some and less of some other. I do not want to deprive my children, they are the most important in all of this divorce mess. I pay my child support, but I would like the kids to live with me. Why does the wife automatically get the kids? I want the kids to stay in regular contact with their mother, even more then the judge says they have to stay in contact with me.
It is a sad state that you are comparing yourself to a killer Rob. Did your wife disappear too? It is not just one wife. This man has a history! Would you marry a woman that had the history he does? Would you be the 3rd husband? How about the 4th? Would you even be the boyfriend? Think about it.
I don't know if he's guilty or not of either death, but what kind of man marries a woman who is 30 years younger? A controlling and manipulative one? Something's fishy in the state of Denmark.
A lucky one Pat.
How so? You think that's a basis for a good, strong marriage....or an unequal one?
You got Pat! Can you say, narcissist control freak? This guy is for sure guilty and he is evenmore emboldened by the fact he got away with it, twice and has another young honey he will do away with when the "pixie dust" wears off.
This just proves my point. What a "male reproductive organ"!
First Scott Peterson kills his wife and makes headlines. Now Drew Peterson kills his wife and makes headlines. It's a Pandemic of Petersons!
Along with his kids Social Services should take the new fiancee in protective custody. It always amazes me how stupid some woman can be when it comes to a manipulative man who can twist and turn her every which way and she becomes his puppet all for the sake of Love or better yet Sex! Her parents would be better served if they took out a huge Life Insurance Policy on her! What any one sees in him is beyond my imagination especially with those puffy bags under his eyes. It must be somehting not visible to the naked eye if you know what I mean, There is no other explanation for a attractive young woman to think they are crazy in love with him! I really hope they can nail this guy and lock him up in the same cell with Scott Peterson as they have a lot in common!
I think that maybe Stacy knew too much that's why he got rid of her too. Maybe she theatened to go to the police about his first wife. Who knows, maybe he confided in her about murdering his first wife. I definitely think that this is too coincidental. The first and then the second disappearing. I don't think a woman with small children up and leaves them just like that unless she's insane. And if she did leave with someone, wouldn't she pack a bag or something. That guy is not being truthful.
He should get the death penalty just for being a smirking smark aleck. He thinks he's so clever that he can get away with whatever suits him. First class creep.
What he should do is hook up with Casey Anthony. She can kill his kids and then he can kill her and hopefully then they can lock him up.
Great Plan: would this spare us from further years of televised abuse from Nancy Grace?
I still like seeing the file footage of Casey Anthony when she's handcuffed. Seriously, check out her rack. Ssssmokin'!
Nancy Grace is so shrill, can you imagine being married to her. She talks about murderers, and pedophiles all day, so who is she plastering her kids photos all over her show for. Weird...
Finally!
are all you that naive to believe he is not guilty.............???????????
obviously, they indeed do have evidence for him to be arrested, and I say thank God, finally there is justice in this world..........and it is not just circumstantial............detectives have been working on this case for months, very slowing, very methodically, trying to put this animal in jail............do you listen to the news? how they exhumed the body of his 3rd wife and found evidence of homicide, not an accident..........and the evidence points to Drew!!!!!!!
with any luck they will solve Stacey's death too, and find him guilty of taking that young girl's life too!!!!!!!!!!!
As far as the statement about how sad it is when a husband is always considered being an automatic suspect in the disappearance of his wife, in this case it is not sad, but a job well done by the detectives and that justice will be served............
ps: rob, please don't compare this to your divorce and taking this so personally........
the guy killed his wife!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
.
Yea, when there is circumstantial evidence linking you to the murder/disappearance of one or more of your multiple spouses, it does at some point begin to make you look bad...
dianne-886402 I am not trying to campare this with my case, just point out how unfair the judges have ruled in the past towards the men in divorce cases in general. It is like the judges have said that the wife gets paid to be a wife, but the man does not get paid to be a husband.
I am totally with you here, this guy is a danger to society, especially wives, I wouldn't buy a used car from this creep, let alone marry him.
This guy is just "Pure Evil" let's hope that the cop's don't screw this up, I hope they nail the bastard good and proper (as they say in Manchester England, and Puerto Banus Spain, where I now live)
I feel so much for the family of Stacy, she is "GONE" and they know not where. I pray the Lord will find her for them, and they will have closure.
I also feel for the family and friends of Mrs. Peterson the 3rd, she was snuffed out in an act of evil also. This guy seems to think that wives are a disposable item, like a "Bic Razor" use it once and chuck it in the bin.
I say again to the Police dept, DON'T LET THIS GUY GET AWAY WITH ANOTHER MURDER, he thinks he is invincible, please prove the arsehole wrong. Vaya con Dios, Delorez
He's on number 5 now? Ladies, you might want to make note of this guy. Try not to marry him in the future.
Luckily, I'm too old for him. I'm only 15 years his junior!
My sentiments exactly Marzidote!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Are we the only ones that get this whole story??
I was wondering how many women this guy would be allowed to kill before somebody did something! To bad that 1980's movie "Star Chamber" isn't for real. If he gets out on a technicality, the hit squad could take him out!
If we are all lucky, and he goes to prison, I hope the riggors of getting raped daily in prison wipe that putrid smile off his butt ugly face! Maybe the tax payers will just get lucky and somebody will just shank him in the first week!
Totally with you Cheesy..........
I just think this guy thinks he is above the law, and thinks who the hell he is!!!!!!
With any luck prison will take that smirk off his face once and for all!
Dianne, I noticed that smirk too! It was just a slap in the face. This man thinks he's so much smarter than anyone else, especially the police and that he'll just walk. He'd better hope there are no women on his jury!! They'll see through this jerk!
i hope they find him guilty, as he is!!. look at the smirk on that face, he thinks he is untouchable. all these young ladies need to take a good look at his past track record.
I'm sure that the prosecution has enough to make the murder charges stick. As arrogant as Peterson is he might have shot off at the mouth in regards to the killing his third wife and the disappearance of his fourth.
If he is found guilty they should charge the coroner, Peterson's cop buddies for interferring with a murder case and throw Peterson in jail for the rest of his life.
I'm quite sure that all of the prisoners would love to have Peterson as their new playmate.
Unfortunately, since he is a former police officer they will not put him with the general prison population.
I think he should be with the general population in the jail, at least there he would get his just desert's hey? Maybe he could then realise just what an arsehole he is, especially when they "tear him a new one", (oops)
AHA! So I am not the only one who finds him extremely unattractive!
An older man has had so much life experience (picture cop for 29 years) that often he is able to attract and manipulate younger women. A woman his age has lived her own life and "gets up early enough" that he can't "trick" her into believing that he is God's gift to her. Remember, young women sometimes look for a father figure. He can probably play "Daddy" and "the hot lover" at the same time. EWWWWW, did I just say that? And money helps. When a guy comes along and buys the gifts and trips and such..it can turn a young woman's head.
The fiancee left him because her father told her that "it is him or us"....She packed up and got out. She has since said that the engagement was a publicity scheme that he talked her into going along with.
He is truly a media whore....well, this time a court reporter is going to pay very close attention to what is said in his trial....woooooooooohooooooooooo
I would normally advocate the "Innocent till found Guilty" theory here, but looking at all the evidence shown on T.V. (and I live in the U.K. so rely on Fox News for my info) I have to say it's not looking too good for Drew, but hey, never say never.
I do however, think it highly unlikely that he is totally unaware of his 4th wifes location, albeit dead or alive, it could be a scam between them both to generate some cash, the story here would be a good one, book and film deals would bring in fortunes, but I have to say in my gut feeling, Mrs Peterson the 4th is "DEAD" and Drew either killed her, or paid someone to do so. If I am found to be wrong, I am sorry, and I apologise unreservedly to Mr. Peterson, but something tells me I'm probably not wrong.
Wherever Stacy is, my the good Lord take care of her. Vaya con dios.
Perhaps this guy did kill his ex wife, and even his last wife. Yes, he seems like a smug scumbag, and we all would hate to see him get away with it. Yes, he deserves to be in jail if he is guilty of these crimes.
HOWEVER, we live in a country where EVIDENCE is supposed to count for something, and NO ONE is supposed to go to jail or be convicted without supporting evidence. At the moment all they have is inuendo, heresay, and speculation. I find it ironic that at the time that he is supposed to have killed his 3rd wife, he was with his and her son, and the son has stated emphatically that his dad couldn't have done it because they were together all day. So unless they think the father and son did it, how are they planning to prove that he killed her? I find it odd that she was officially ruled as having slipped, hit her head, and then drowned in a bath tub, and yet this ruling was later over ruled by other authorities using the fact that the tub was dry as a reason? Does anyone else but me have an ill fitting bath tub drain plug? I know I have never lived in a house where I could fill the tub and come back hours later to find it still full, so the tub draining and being dry is hardly anything suspicious to me. I'm not a fan of the guy, but until they have PROOF, and not just a desire to SOLVE a case to satisfy the family of th victim and make political headlines, he shouldn't be in jail.
Those who think what they are doing is ok, should think twice, because if we keep eroding rights, legal requirements and such, soon we will be putting people in jail because they COULDA DONE IT, MIGHTA DONE IT, AND LESS!
