Britain for the first time has published a list of people barred from entering the country for what the government says is fostering extremism or hatred.
I wonder if the Brits actually hire people to track foreigners that foster extremism or hatred. That must be a busy office. If someone winds up on the list, can he/she appeal it? Is there a list of rules that the Brits published? Do they send the list to their customs agents and screen passengers at the major airports and sea ports?
What about the other side of the coin? Do the brits expel its citizens for fostering hatred and extremism? Where do they send them -- to Oglethorpe's colonies? Or perhaps to debtors prisons...
In the United Kingdom, the Public Order Act 1986 prohibits, by its Part 3, expressions of racial hatred. "Racial hatred" is defined as hatred against a group of persons by reason of the group's colour, race, nationality (including citizenship) or ethnic or national origins. Section 18 of the Act says:
A person who uses threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour, or displays any written material which is threatening, abusive or insulting, is guilty of an offence if—
(a) he intends thereby to stir up racial hatred, or
(b) having regard to all the circumstances racial hatred is likely to be stirred up thereby.
Offences under Part 3 carry a maximum sentence of seven years imprisonment or a fine or both.
The Racial and Religious Hatred Act 2006 amended the Public Order Act 1986 by adding Part 3A. That Part says, "A person who uses threatening words or behaviour, or displays any written material which is threatening, is guilty of an offence if he intends thereby to stir up religious hatred." The Part protects freedom of expression by stating in Section 29J:
Nothing in this Part shall be read or given effect in a way which prohibits or restricts discussion, criticism or expressions of antipathy, dislike, ridicule, insult or abuse of particular religions or the beliefs or practices of their adherents, or of any other belief system or the beliefs or practices of its adherents, or proselytising or urging adherents of a different religion or belief system to cease practising their religion or belief system.
The Criminal Justice and Immigration Act 2008 amended Part 3A of the Public Order Act 1986. The amended Part 3A adds, for England and Wales, the offence of inciting hatred on the ground of sexual orientation. All the offences in Part 3 attach to the following acts: the use of words or behaviour or display of written material, publishing or distributing written material, the public performance of a play, distributing, showing or playing a recording, broadcasting or including a programme in a programme service, and possession of inflammatory material. In the circumstances of hatred based on religious belief or on sexual orientation, the relevant act (namely, words, behaviour, written material, or recordings, or programme) must be threatening and not just abusive or insulting.
I tuned them all out - what a waste of time they all are, Rush to whoever that Savage nut is. Just stirring the pot and further addling the brains of the thought-challenged.
I listen them just to hear what the Far Right Wing are talking about. True Conservatives should throw these people out of there party. Or medicate them.
True Conservatives should throw these people out of there party.
It seems as though you are hoping for too much, it seems as though they lack strong leaders, and even followers strong enough to stand up to those using their party to push their self serving views.
As a life long Liberal Democrat I believe in the 2 party (or more) system. Republicans are allowing the Far Right Wing to destroy their party. Which I do not believe would be good for America.
There are people on the left that spew just a much hate, if not more, as Michael Savage, but, because of his points of view, he is almost considered to be a national security risk. You are going to see "the Fairness Doctrine" pass and conservative talk radio will be no more. It will go underground, as any resistance does, and will still be heard whether the left likes it or not.
He calls the left "Red Diaper Doper Babies" because most of them grew up in the 60s. And he believes the majority of them did some form of illegal drugs and may be on some form of legally-prescribed drugs today that impairs their judgment to think clearly and responsibly.
I honestly don't think Michael Savage cares if he can or can't go over to England. He's just happy to be on his houseboat with his dog in San Fransisco doing his radio show for as long as he can.
Freedom of speech lost and fading in the UK? Freedom of speech is the right to say what you want, without censorship, right? No compromise
Freedom of speech to say "Q'uran" is a book of hatred??? Hmmmm...
If freedom of speech is defined as only warm fuzzy stuff, it's not very free is it? That's why you don't go to jail for saying it's a book of hate here in America. It's just an opinion. If Dr. Savage says that, he probably has some logic behind it, but of course, it's easier to cover your ears and stamp your feet and whine about the big bad man saying mean stuff.
Hey Checkmate----you aren't sure how a presidential veto gets overturned? do you know anything at all about how your country and it's government work? if not, may i suggest you take a stroll to your local library and borrow a copy of the 4th grade and 5th grade social studies/civics book. when you are done reading that, go for the next level. and don't stop until you reach the level that covers the constitution, bill of rights, and amendments to the constitution.
yes we have the right to free speech and say what we want, that also includes the right to have a reaction to what is said anyway we want. If you feel you must say something you have the right, BUT everyone else also has the right to react and say they disagree with what is said. So he has the right to say what he wants, the rest of the world has the right to react to what he said plain and simple. Getting banned is the reaction to his action, so he has to live with it and deal with it. To be honest I don't know who this guy is, but I'm sure if he is talking that way he probably doesn't care about getting banned, too bad so sad.
While the Constitution of the United States makes provision for the right to speak freely without fear of persecution, there are certain caveats. Specifically, and with thanks to the Utah Education Network,
Freedom of speech is the right to speak out publicly or privately. This covers all forms of expression, including newspapers, magazines, books, television, radio, movies, and electronic documents. While the right to free speech is not absolute, its protection is broad. For example, it protects silence (e.g., right to refrain from reciting the Pledge of Allegiance), symbolic speech (e.g., the right to burn an American flag in protest), intellectual freedom (e.g., right to read). In most cases the First Amendment, does not protect speech that incites or provokes extreme violence.
This is no different from the United Kingdom's perspective on the question. U.S. citizens found to be in violation of that particular section of the first Amendment can find themselves in prison - either state or federal.
My big question, however, is how can Michael Weiner (Savage) be considered popular? He is vile, crass, offensive, and apparently suffering from issues connected to his relationships with his parents. I find no problem with Great Britain banning him from entrance. Didn't the U.S. ban Amy Winehouse from entering the country a year or so ago? Doesn't the United States similarly ban entrance to many people ... thousands every year? I only wish the U.S. could ban Michael Weiner as well. America doesn't need creeps like him. We have enough hate mongers.
Well, at least the Brits are not banning their own military pesonnel! I mean the current US administration has deemed military personnel who served in Iraq (which includes my number three son, by the way) as "potentially dangerous" people who need to be "watched." That said, in this case, Britain is banning speech, pure and simple. Michael Savage has not done anything wrong other than to express his opinions freely. I guess we have a much clearer picture of why our Founding Fathers left "Great" Britain. Real Americans, to the right or to the left, shold be appalled by this, but of course liberals are only appalled when the free speech of the left is infringed upon. It is much like feminism. It only applies to woem who are leftists. Let sarah Palin run for ofice and she is subjected to hatred that the left would never tolerate for one of their own. This left-wing hypocrisy does not surprise me.
I guess it's OK to ban people who criticize Jihadists, but it's OK to welcome visiting mullahs to spew their hatred of anything western. Sounds like the radical Islamists have the Brits on the run.
" guess it's OK to ban people who criticize Jihadists, but it's OK to welcome visiting mullahs to spew their hatred of anything western. Sounds like the radical Islamists have the Brits on the run. "
IF you had actually bothered to read the entire articel you owuldhave seen that they listed two barred Islamists as well. And they have banned several others from entering the country.
Savage is still free to say whatever he wants. And, if he really wants to go to Britain, maybe he could take the Chunnel and then march right to Trafalgar Square and then still freely say whatever he wants.
When we become so obsessed with not offending people then freedom of speech will be history. I would rather have a few or for that matter a lot of people offended than lose the freedom of speech that allows everyone the ability to prove their ability to or lack of ability to make their case. There are bomb throwers on both sides filled with vile rhetoric. Read the generalizations that the thinkers here regularly spew, many of the observations here could be considered offensive to someone, I am more offended with censorship than inane talking points even though I find the babble rather offensive.
The United States Constitution is a guarantee of individual freedoms for Americans. In the United States. Why would anyone think it could give that right to Americans other countries. When in Rome. But, has Savage made those statements in the UK. Apparently they aren't going to give him the chance or risk appearing to support his views. Hiding from those with radical beliefs in support of others with radical beliefs?
Why do we want to play with FIRE when we know that it could hurt us.
Just my humble opinion as we live in a dangerous world...
Thanks for clafifying. I like the analogy. I guess that's why we have both fire fighters and rescue victims in the world. You may think Savage "starts the fire" with his opinion, and I don't listen to him enough to really know, but my observation has been that there is a strong positive correlation with teaching kids to hate, recruitment, terrorist training, and jihadists. So despite whether one believes it's a book of hate or not, it is certainly utilized as a means to that end. This is an undeniable fact, so really it depends on what your definition of "is" is. Could you agree with a modified statement: " The Quran is usedas a book of hate"?
Agreed roy, just another country the muslims have on the ropes. I don't know why we are so worried about what they think or their religion or rights, no matter what country they end up in, they think they are special and get special treatment. Hey muslims follow the rules of the country you are in, and maybe you just might get along with someone. Its not our job or UK's job to make sure they feel at home here, they should integrate into our society and they haven't like so many foreigners. America is about 10-20 years away from being a third world country.
Whoever this savage guy is, saying the q'quran is a book of hatred how many have said that about the bible, not that I give a @!$%# about what other ppl say about the bible either, but fair is fair. Muslims have been at war with the world since their creation, don't expect it to stop anytime soon, getting upset over a drawing of muhammed please what kind of @!$%#ing lunatics are we dealing with here, If we really want to freak them out, drop a @!$%# load of those drawing from planes all over iran/iraq maybe they will all kill themselves save up the trouble.
I'm getting very sick and tired as I think most legal citizens are, of all the muslims and all immigrants that are coming into their country and demanding things be changed for them, instead of them changing to the country they entered, it's happening all over the world and no one wants to offend anyone, so we do nothing. Well prepare to see what happens next if it's not halted. Should be a fun ride
RiverQueen, the Brits have to bow a little to see if the bombing will stop. It's not the Christians doing the bombing there (that's in Ireland).
This 'fairness' crap is just more of the media crap trying to find something to get people arguing, which means they're actually paying attention to it.... even if they don't understand it.
Bad1V, as a Conservative, I agree. I don't listen to any of those radio, talk show, etc idiots on either side. As with most people I talk and deal with, we can and have make our own opinions by whatever logical evaluations of subjects are at hand. I have been known to change my ideas when presented with the proper argument and not rabble rousing vomit language spewing extremests, on both sides of the issue.
Freedom of speech is truly dead in the U.K. (unless you are a liberal socialist POS)! Odumbo and Piglosi are trying the same here! Wake up people; stop following the herd!
There's a big difference between acceptance and tolerance.
I tolerate Homosexuals, but I don't have to accept them as normal.
If Savage can get barred from the UK for saying that, then please bar me as well.
He has a right to his opinion, YOU don't have to listen to him.
Think of him as the reaction to P.C.
Many people in America hate America.
No one would ever claim that Savage hates America!
He is angry at the "changes" in our society (predating Obama). Parents can't let their kids play in their front yards anymore, entitlements are entrenched, you can barely call an illegal immigrant "illegal" anymore, gov't grows like a weed, personal responsibility is dissapearing, and the majority of people are some "persecuted" minority.
Maybe he is clinging to the good old days. (There are worse things to cling to.) I like when he talks about his childhood or something crazy he saw on the street. I don't always agree with him, but you can trust that he is not acting or saying something because it's what he thinks you want to hear.
I am offended, everyone doesn't agree with me! How dare anyone question my beliefs. I don't know who this character is, Iguess he has made a few boneheaded statements, maybe more than a few but if someone is looking for a reason to be insane due to their religious beleifs I am betting there are a lot of things going on in this country that will make their little radical minds spin a few times. I think this character is the least of our worries.
I listen to the BBC reports quite a bit and the things I hear coming from the UK are shocking. Talk about big brother!
But I disagree that it is Obama and Pelosi (I hate her BTW). I mean, after the entire Patriot Act, wire-tapping fiasco, I don't see Obama trying to limit our freedoms the way the Bush Admin did.
Ryan - awesome comment. I listen to Michael Savage everyday and visit his website. He's one of the last few that not only speaks there mind but speaks the TRUTH. I like the fact that he exposes the Liberals for who they really are, most of them are LIERS, USE PEOPLE and USE TAXPAYER MONEY AGAINST OUR WISHES. Most people are in denial of what is really happening in our country. SOCIALISIM run by a DICTATOR.
I thought that maybe it can happen (president's veto being overturned), but wasn't sure. I have only started to pay attention to politics because if how the media is making it into a circus.
Suite, that's the education that I received from our school system under Clinton and the second Bush. I find that school systems pick what they like and then say that they have taught the entire area in that subject.
Scary thing is, I haven't met someone who can name the 3 branches of the government (and they are from different schools from different parts of the country) in my age group (I am 24 and at least I know the branches). Amendments? First amendment was all that was covered in grammar school and high school. That was it. Bill of Rights? Mentioned, not taught. My schools (Catholic and public) were more interested in filling a quote than teaching the students. Even in college, political science was a joke. It was just definitions like import, export, communism, etc. being taught to a class of young adults. Never once was anything about America mentioned. I have found over time, that I have learned more about the cultures of other countries, but very little of American culture.
And don't get me started on history books. They only tell the history from the victor's point of view. Go ask some people in the South for the reason for the Civil War. Up North, we're told it is slavery. Down South? Land. But every history book that I have come across mentions the slavery issue. Why? Because the North won! America can't even get its history straight and people wonder why no one knows anything about America.
At least I admit ignorance about knowing how the government works, but at least I am not some Congressman who signed a bill without bothering to read it and/or questioned it.
Well said Ryan in Texas. As a fellow Texan, I wholeheartedly agree. I wonder where this country would be if the founding fathers back in 1776 had decided to not speak their mind for fear of offending someone. Makes you wonder how far we have really come.
I agree Ryan in Texas hit it right on the head! I too am a native Texan! I would rather be a free Texan than a Socialist American (and before you libs get too offended try reading the 10th Amendment-if you can read)!
Savage made the list!! LOL!! I wonder what hes saying on the radio show about this! WOW! Freedom of Speech in UK isn't what it used to be or something?
Geeze Republican,,,,i hear tell TX is thinking about leaving the US,,is that correct? If so,,can you possible call a meeting of what's left of the Republican Party to be held in TX?,,you can all vote on it and leave at the same time. Mexico will welcome the land back and the rest of the US can live get on with our lives. Please do a roll call and make sure Savage,Rush, Hannity, O'Rielly and Beck are on the list, I'd hate to see the US ruined by "a few bad apples".
I agree Ryan in Texas hit it right on the head! I too am a native Texan! I would rather be a free Texan than a Socialist American (and before you libs get too offended try reading the 10th Amendment-if you can read)!
Maybe you should re-read the 10th Amendment. States have challenged the Fed's and lost. Texas will be staying in the Union.
From time to time states and local governments have attempted to assert exemption from various federal regulations, especially in the areas of labor and environmental controls, using the Tenth Amendment as a basis for their claim. An often-repeated quote, from United States v. Darby, 312 U.S. 100, 124 (1941), reads as follows:
The amendment states but a truism that all is retained which has not been surrendered. There is nothing in the history of its adoption to suggest that it was more than declaratory of the relationship between the national and state governments as it had been established by the Constitution before the amendment or that its purpose was other than to allay fears that the new national government might seek to exercise powers not granted, and that the states might not be able to exercise fully their reserved powers.
Being an American is a pretty good thing, Hang around you learn to like it.
I think it's great! As a nation we should be so bold! Common decency comes before freedom of speech....remember the kindergarden rule "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all". And don't bother disagreeing with me, it won't change my mind.
BAD1V, as someone who lives in a State that borders Texas, I and most of the people here would just love to see TX leave the Union and fail as a nation. Both it and AK (Alaska) are a big disgrace to our fine nation. Let then secceed. They will fail within a month and come crawling back, only we won't take them.

I know they would. It is just funny that these people don't realize that all the Social Securtiy taxes they have paid will stay with the United States. When they try and figure out what their Military, roads, schools etc are going to cost, they use those tea bags to cover their eyes to hide the tears.
And don't get me started on history books. They only tell the history from the victor's point of view. Go ask some people in the South for the reason for the Civil War. I agree - to a point. Here in Texas, we were taught that the Civil War actually was fought for STATE'S RIGHTS (which is true, and which we're all seeing might've been a good thing to have), and that slavery was a part of it. BUT, slavery was not ALL of it, as you'll read in the North (where there were some there who actually treated slaves worse than they did in the South) and from African-Americans.
But, I look here too in Texas - some children are now being taught that those who fought for Texas freedom were in the wrong, and that Sam Houston was bad for attacking Santa Anna during a siesta and they massacred the Mexicans. At the Alamo, they're being taught that the defenders surrendered. All this because of the influx of Mexicans entering the United States (I will not call them Mexican-Americans as it isn't necessarily accurate).
San Jacinto? - Houston's move was brilliant and why that battle lasted 18 minutes with only a few deaths on his side. Santa Anna was captured in a private's uniform trying to escape (a soldier yelling "jefe" (boss/general) gave him away though). Alamo? - we'll never know for sure, but we do know they died for their beliefs - and I would trust Suzanna Dickenson's account more than the other woman who claimed to treat Crockett for his battle wounds before he was executed (that alone makes me doubt her story - why treat someone's wounds when you were going to execute them anyway?) because Dickinson was there - and had proof (her daughter was wearing Travis' cat's eye ring on her neck).
I think that the best history lesson is going to the actual sites, but at the same time they charge so much to enter them and get a true history lesson people tend to just say "Forget it" and try to learn through other ways - and in a lot of cases can be revisionist history.
Actually, Texas is the only state that can leave the union whenever they want. That is because Texas was a country before joining the union, and in the agreement with the US they specifically put in that Texas could leave and become a country once again. It is also the only state that can legally fly their flag at the same height as the US flag.  As a native Texan, I don't want to leave the union, I just think maybe Rick Perry and Bush should leave the union.
As far as the comment about Miss California's life "being ruined" I have to disagree. She has been hired as a spokeperson for some crazy conservative group. No telling how much money she is making spreading hate for them. Seems to be a common way for conservatives to make money, including this Savage guy. That's why Hannity and O'Reilley jumped on the Rush bandwagon. It's all about the benjamins to those guys.  In conservative America, hate sells. And sells big time.
No Party Affiliation

Boy, you guys sure are out today and totally running away with a misquote by Perry. He never said that the state would secede. Only things it can do legally (and yes, the rest of the acknowledges this) is 1. fly the state flag the same height as the US (as it is the ONLY state to have been a republic) and 2. divide into five separate states if it so chooses.
Texas actually was within months of escaping it's supposed government depression in the 1840s when the US decided to let it join (they sure lollygagged around) A mistake? Perhaps, but some people in New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado and Oklahoma probably would say otherwise because Texas' addition gave the US land that those states now own property of (search "Texas in 1840s" and you'll see the original boundaries of the state before it was cut in smooth lines in the Panhandle area).
And - my dear BAD - Texas is one of SIX states - and the ONLY largely populated one, that is in the BLACK as far as state budget and spending. I think that rings heavily as far as their tenacity. Plus you have Galveston - who is being told (NO JOKE) that Katrina "victims" (sorry, but four years later they're only victims of themselves) must still be helped by FEMA before they can get assistance. You know something though? - In the span of 8 months, Galveston is a functioning city and getting tourists. New Orleans - four years later, is still having some difficulties. I see Galveston being back to as normal as it can be a hell of a lot faster, sure shows it here.
Frankly, Texas has shown it can help itself, as has Alaska. If you guys want the state to fail, it's because you cannot look at your own state, see its mistakes and try to do some change there.
But, wait a second - could it also be that you guys realize that Bush and Palin are from those states, both are despised by people, and therefore those who live in those states should suffer for it?
Guys, grow up - please. Everyone can succeed or fail on their own. Don't judge a whole state for a couple of politicians. I don't judge other states for their politicians - even if I disagree with them - because they're the sum of its parts.
RC-391328 Actually, Texas is the only state that can leave the union whenever they want. RC, please give me the link here to verify this - I too am from Texas, and the only true fact I know of is that the state can divide itself into 5 parts.
(And, Bush was a better governor than a President. He helped the state improve after Richards left it in disarray. Now Perry - I'd agree with you, the Trans Texas Corridor? - Sheesh, talk about double taxation.)
As far as the comment about Miss California's life "being ruined" I have to disagree. She has been hired as a spokeperson for some crazy conservative group. From what I've read, Miss California spoke her opinion and answered the question given to her by Perez Hilton. Because it wasn't what HE wanted to hear (that homosexuality is wrong/that people were wrong to vote for Prop. 8 - as her state is the one that passed it), he wants to constantly thrash her for it. He even gloats that it might've been his vote that cost her the crown, as if it's a "take that" for what she said.
Just because someone doesn't agree with a lifestyle or what not doesn't mean that they hate the person - if they did, then we'd all be hating each other for some reason or another because we ALL disagree with others.
I would beg to differ that Hilton's comments and reaction to Miss California (calling her a bitch, etc.) and the digging of information to find out she had breast implants to try and humiliate her or make her look bad for the decision would be the real show of hate. This is also shown in clips of news stories on that vote day when reporters were shouted down and yelled at threateningly for trying to get both sides of the story, i.e. one reporter trying to get a person who was carrying a cross' reaction to being shouted down by the opponents of Prop. 8.
Your statement about Social Security and the money staying in the USA is totally false...If you worked here and qualify for SS it don't make any difference where you live.. I have worked with many Italians who after retirement moved back to Italy..They still get their SS...
Nice try,but no cigar though...Try something you actually have a clue about...
GregL-671049. Only if you have enough qualifying pay periods. So all the young people in Texas will lose theirs. So I guess I do know what I am talking about. There is a little thing called being civil. You should see if you can get a clue on how it works. :-)
Even if Obama vetoes the Fairness Doctrine, the Senate can override his veto with a 2/3 vote. And with the Democrats being one seat away from a filibuster-proof Senate this is not impossible.
Oh, and if you think that only people like Michael Savage can be denied their right to speak, check out the following:
The city council of the town of Quincy, Illinois denied a request to speak by a taxpaying resident of the city – his only trespass against parliamentary procedure apparently rooted in his active support of the Quincy Tea Party effort.
Steve McQueen, one of the organizers of the Quincy Tea Party that fired off along with other similar protests in more than 800 cities across the country this past Tax Day, Apr. 15, requested in writing to speak on the Midwestern city’s recently approved $31.2 million budget and water and sewer rate increases.
A roll call vote was eventually taken and the seven Democrats on the council denied McQueen's opportunity to speak – while six Republicans voted to allow him to speak, according to a report by QuincyNews(dot)org.
. . .
After the roll call vote, Alderman Mike Farha (R-4th Ward) blasted that he had never seen anyone denied the right to speak in his 10 years on the council and called the vote "outrageous," according to the QuincyNews report.
But Alderman Steve Duesterhaus (D-2nd Ward) was just as adamant, saying, "A point of order here. This is an incidental motion and is not subject to debate."
Duesterhaus added that in his opinion there had been ample opportunity to comment on the budget and the water and sewer increases before a previous vote on the issue.
Even if Obama vetoes the Fairness Doctrine, the Senate can override his veto with a 2/3 vote. And with the Democrats being one seat away from a filibuster-proof Senate this is not impossible.
Of course they could override a veto, but until that happens you are worrying about nothing. I would think you have better things to do than worrying what if's.

My Dear mel-680625. Texas my be in the black now. But they don't pay the total cost for a Military, roads, schools, etc. Oh and lets not forget Medicare. The U. S. defense budget for 2009 was $651.2 billion. Divide that by 50 and you have Texas share. Looks like your taxes are going up.
Great Brittian, and any other country's Govrnment has the perfect right to "protect its borders" limiting visitors, and denying requests for entry/citizenship. GB does not live under the US Constitution. They have laws regarding what can be said about many topics there. Off the top of my head I am pretty sure their citizens can face prosecution for talking trash about the Royal Family.
This article might offend me if it was the US that was ejecting Mike Savage for being an ass; fortunately for many of our citizens, their right to be an ass and write, speak, or even scream their paltry opinions is protected, that is why he and so many others are still on the air in *some* US markets.
OK, you embarrassed me. I was thinking it would be funny to suggest that we ban Savage from the US. But you are right, it is free speech, and worth EVERY PENNY.
Bad1V - thanks for the info, it was QUITE helpful. It is sad that free speech has been undermined in the UK. Big Brother has gotten WAY TOO BIG for his britches! I'm sure most of the people on the list could care less about visiting the UK. The more I hear about countries like this, the more I like, despite our problems, America. I can't understand those want to follow in these countries footsteps.
I'm currently living in the UK and I can say that there is definately still freedom of speech here. The US has a list as well. And banning someone from entering your country for inciteful speech isn't banning their freedom of speech, it's a statement made by the UK that they don't acknowledge hate.
I actually feel safer speaker my mind here in the UK than I do when I'm home in the States right now because of the Patriot Act.
Karen - in Europe - Belgium, Switzerland, Monaco, etc. all managed to stay free through many wars of larger neighbors despite not having half the resources of California or Texas.
Everyone says "Please leave Texas", until we get up to do it. Then they say "We will destroy you if you try".
Just like a husband who beats his wife. "Just try to leave - what will you do without me? I pay the bills and you will have nothing."
Then it's "You can't leave me, I won't let you. I'll kill you if you try."
So we tell her "Just don't do anything to make him angry."
And one day he puts a bullet in both their heads.
Well, we are not the captain of the ship, so we don't have to go down with it. We have fought so hard FOR this country, but there comes a time when you have to let it go. We may not be there yet, but we can't stop all the leaks. There are many who are busy drilling more holes, making more demands on this country. The captain is not worried about sinking because we were able to keep up the pumping before. "We will just pump more and faster in the future", that's what he says. But if the burden is too great, the pumping beyond what future generations can endure....
The UK is a real nice free place....If that is true why are there CCTV camera on just about every corner...You don't see that here in the US... And you had the nerve to say the patriot act is restrictive....Try again...
Unlike the other posters, I am aware that Texas WAS a country before becoming a state.
I keep telling Obama and all the other spend happy liberals that when I spend more money than I make, I go into debt. Some people are forced into bankruptcy.
I can not believe how they are ruining our country and for what? So that we can pay more welfare and fix inner-city schools.
PUH-LEEZ spare me. Instead of having millions of kids, zip it up and go to college. Once you get that degree and fine paying job, then you can have kids, and only to the point you can afford them.
Believe me that Obama is another Jimmy Carter in the sense that he's a one term President inaugurated after people really hated the Republican in office.
True, but the British dont care to listen to the vile hated spewed from the faces of these people, I think thats how we feel about several foreign hate mongers. Just because our first admendment protects their rights in our country doesnt mean that the people of the world want him to exercise his American rights on their shores. They have every right to close their nation to likes of these people.
Thank you Marty and Nelson for showing your true liberal fascist colours. I enjoy Michael Savage and don't find him the slightest bit offensive. The thought police abound; disagree with me and you shall be banned and shamed!
I have listened to Michael Savage's talk show before. At some times he is over the top, but, so many of those he criticizes are way out-of-bounds on what they do. Most of what he says rings true. Two things mentioned in the article of which he has spoken - the Quran and autism - 1. No wonder he said such about the Quran for we can see the hate and violence which spills forth from jihadists towards us and others that do not share their perversion of that faith. 2. My son had ADHD and a grandson of mine has a mild form of autism. Each truly had their own particular problem, but, each also learned to use it to their advantage whenever they could. Some would be taken in by this, like the mother, grandmother. But, when around me they knew it would not work. I taught them to work in society and have themselves make adjustments so that they could live in the world as responsible adults, not as self-handicapped persons. If allowed to do so, each would have been holy terrors due to their inclinations and pampering by mothers.
So, in these cases, true points made by Dr. Savage. Besides, Dr. Savage is better off by not going to England. It is their loss.
I listen to Savage. I don't agree with certain subjects that he talks about, but he does have his points.
I have known people who have autism. However, I also met many parents who blame their inability to raise a child in a correct manner on something like ADD/ADHD/autism *insert your excuse here*. So they pump the kids with meds. Meanwhile, what some of these kids really need is a spanking. One parent in particular couldn't take her kid anymore because he was driving her nuts and she ran out of his meds. She spanked him. Amazing! The kid shaped up immediately. Soon, you thought he was on his meds by the way he acted. But she never had to buy the meds afterwards. This, of course, cannot be applied to every kid. Some kids really have a problem and others are just pain in the butts.
Also, just because a doctor says you're kid had a problem, always go for a second opinion. Or a third or more. I met someone who has dyslexia. When she was a child, her parents couldn't understand why she couldn't read. The doctor that her family went to said that she had mental retardation and she had to go to a special needs school. A few years later, another doctor looked at her and said that she had dyslexia and that she was not mentally retarded. She was left back 3 grades because she was not taught at the same level of those in public school (mind you, she was at the special needs school for a few years).
Checkmate - I totally agree with you. Autism is the "excuse de jour" for parents who either will not or can not discipline their children. I know that there are legitimate cases of autism. One of my best friends has a son who is autistic, he is now 23 years old, and he truly has autism. She also teaches in a special needs class, and tells me there are some children in there who just need a spanking. She is speaking from experience.
Come on people, teach your children some discipline. A well-placed swat on the bottom never hurt anyone. Children crave boundaries and thrive under discipline. I'm not saying to abuse your children, there is a huge difference, but a spanking now and then will do them good.
I guess I should be included on that list of people who cannot travel to the UK, because I believe in free speech also. I certainly hope the so-called "Fairness Doctrine" does not pass. You also have to remember that this is the country our founding fathers ran from because they were not allowed free speech or religious freedom or anything. They were told what to think, say, and do by a monarch, and were severely punished if they did not do what they were told.
The same thing can be said about the Bible, though. People often use the Bible as a defense for hate and in extreme cases they use it to defend violence. That doesn't make the Bible a "book of hate" and I would be upset if someone called it that. The Qu'ran does have some wonderful teachings in it, it's just that some people choose to twist those teachings to fit in with their own hatred.
His statement on autism was also highly inappropriate. Your examples show two children who have been allowed to abuse their condition, but that's not the case with the majority of children struck with autism and to generalize like that on both accounts is wrong and cruel. Sure, that guy can say whatever he likes, but that doesn't make it acceptable and it certainly doesn't make him right.
You can't yell fire in a crowded theatre. If you tell people to demonstrate and they do so peacefully no problem. If you tell them the government is bad and must come down and one blows up a federal building that's a crime. We have always walked the tightrope of free speech and the public good.
Savage and his ilk both left and right our out for one thing. Ratings. Yet they seem to get more and more shrill each day.
The US Supreme Court has already rules the political speech be given the widest latitude. It's the one place where speech is totally free. There is no truth in advertising or libel in political speach. The "fairness doctrine" would violate that ruling. The idea is that anything said would have to be true or you would have to stop saying it once it was proved false. While broadcasters are supposed to self police in this manner that code of ethics has gone away in the pursuit of ratings
Freedom is a myth.. no one truly has freedom the best you can get is to not be bothered.. Lots of things offend me but as let they are not against the law!!
I tolerate you and ask you simply to tolerate me,, that way nobody gets hurt ;)
Thats my understanding of America and why we aren't killing each other like the rest of the world seems to like doing to people that are different..
But freedom no way.. and just barely tolerance, once thats gone I hope you have a good shelter cause every city can be Beriut ao Belgrade.. Belive it or not
Of course George Washington would be on Britains list. He led a rebellion against the lawful government of the time. One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter, back then and also today.
Who is and always has been our strongest ally in every modern conflict if not the British, and under George Bush you Republicans were all for England and now you are against England.
Because they disagree with one of your Prophets the Great Michael Savage because of his social views, you people are genuinely sick.
Im a republican and im not against england because they did this, more power to them we should do the same here, difference is that I could really give a rats ass what party is in office, there all the same crap to me, I dont get into this stupidity like you of course calling people sick because they belong to another party. looser.
Hey, lookie there, collapsed by the community. Censorship at its finest!! Our Presidents middle name is hussein, the left liked to call Bush W, whats the difference?
"the left liked to call Bush W, whats the difference"
The difference is that his father George H W Bush was also President. Therfore the use of W is a valid distinguisher. I have use HW to refer to Bush Senior and W do refer to Bush Junior. Show me where Barack W Obama was President and then you would have a valid analogy. The use of Hussien is a non-veiled attempt to associate Obama with Islamists, which is a lie.
Wrong, it was an attempt to be censored, it was not thinly veiled because I have learned over the years that the left are a bunch of hypocrites and knew you wouldnt be able to just blow by the comment!!
Texas the land of steers and queers. Actually is what my DI in Marine Corps Boot camp used to stress to "us". That was in 1967. I don't think he had real high opinion of Texas.
He was actually killed in Vietnam in 1969. Maybe someone from Texas got him in his sights? Who knows?
"Hey, ghost....would you be offended if we just referred to him as Barry or Barry Sotero?"
Well I tended to refer to Bush Jr. as either Bush, or Bush Jr. so your whining about people referring to him as W seems childish at best. In addition Republicans often referred to him as W and some of his 2004 campaign buttons, posters and stickers on cars (many of which I still see as I drive around) said "W04" so he was referring to himself as W. Therefore it can be argued that unless Obama himself used Barry or Barry Sotero in his campaign (which I do not recall having happened) then those who choose to do so are the ones being the children and whiners.
"Me thinks you'd be in a tizzy over that, as it insinuates he's a man with two identities....the lefty socialist and the media created idol. "
Not at all. I tend not to care what people say or think if what they say is of no consequence. IT insinuates nothing except that the speaker is an ignorable child.
Just so you know, I am friends with many lifelong Republicans (several of them ex military) and they ALL refer to Obama as either Obama, President Obama, The President. We can disagree with eachother on the issues but we are mature enough to talk like adults. Maybe that is because we are all educated and love the US and the Constitution. And each of them hopes that he does well (another mark of patriotic people) because in the end for true patriots it does not matter if one's own party succeeds. And anyone who says now that what Obama is doing will hurt the country is ignorant.
Britain did not have Mccarthy witch hunts or ban it's own citizens from traveling because of their views. In reality, The British enjoy a greater degree of free speech because of a more tolerant society.
Just as it would be here in the US, a citizen can speak freely, but that does not guarantee a foreigner the same right. Any foreigner making the speeches that Savage makes, would be barred from the US.
Your right Ted, I agree fully! His statements are hate filled and serve no useful purpose, but neither do the crazy guys in the ally yelling at the garbage can because it stole his cheese sandwich, should the crazy guy be silenced?
What will you do when others find YOU to be the ridiculous moron, will you support your OWN banning?
Freedom of speech and action comes with responsibility. The government is also FREE to use any mean to ensure that everyone uses these freedom in a responsible manner. You just dont go around talking bull@!$%# just because you are free to do so.
If Rush and co are so brave and fee,let them say something rubbish about Prophet Mohammed, then I will really respect them for exercising their free speech.
The government is also FREE to use any mean to ensure that everyone uses these freedom in a responsible manner.
According to newMUGU the government was "FREE" to ensure that the signers of the Declaration of Independence used their freedom is a responsible manner. At the time, from governments point of view, the founding fathers were completely irresponsible. That's why there was a revolution.
Like I said. The dims are all for nudity, violence and cursing on public TV. Try to censor that and they go nuts screaming about censorship. Tell them they are full of crap; And they will not hesitate to demand that you are silenced, labled and discriminated against.
Edwin, as a Dem, I have no problem at all with you thinking/saying I am full of crap. Tis your right. However, i do have a problem with people spewing hate which has no purpose other than to create more hate and division. Intelligent discussion is one thing, pointless spreading of hate is another.
Here's the best part. Most of what he says has nothing to do with hate, it's anger, much of it is rightfully so(pun intended). But the "liberal" media says it's hate. therefore they must be right. Every single last person in the media that has a conservative point of view IS labled a hate monger. I can not think of 1 conservative in the media that is not. Can you?
If you can't. Please use that as food for thought. Just b/c we don't agree, it doesn't mean I hate you.
Agreed, Edwin. I have heard people state that he is anti-immigrant. No. He's anti-illegal. Some people even stated that he's anti-Mexican. However, every 'proof' they bring up that I have seen, there is no mention of Mexican; his quote usually has the word 'illegal' or 'Mexicans that have illegally.. . .' Maybe he has said it, but I haven't heard/read it yet. I'll wait and see.
You are free but you must use your freedom wisely and with great responsibility or else!!!! Yes,or else you learn it the hard way.If anyone here thinks there is no consequence for abusing the freedom of speech and action, let him go to the nearest prison to visit those inmates who tried to be too free.Wheter you like to believe it or not,we are all prisoners to THEM and must toe the line. Even God dosn´t give complete freedom to anyone.
Get real punk? Is that the best you have? Quick note, the reason I chose the term proctologist is because of having to deal with a$$holes on Newsvine. I do not believe I insulted you or called your comment into question, I simply asked what would you do when you are the one that people find moronic. I have my answer now, thank you.
Those that seem to want to silence people like Savage, Limbaugh, Hannity, and the such are simply intolerant, there is just no other way to say it. Their comments whether you agree with them or not is their right to espouse them. The airwaves they are using are ALL OF OURS, not just those that want to determine right and wrong comments. Tolerance is defending the right of ALL to speek what they want, regardless of how distasteful you may find it.
Most of you that wish to ban him are more than likely too damn self rightious and think that you need to protect us from all that may harm us, and that goes for both the left AND the right. If you dont like him, dont listen, if you dont like what is on t.v., change the channel, it is quite a simple concept.
I learned a simple rule in anatomy 101: "Don't expect to get anything except *fecal material* from a *rectum*." Savage opens his mouth and *defecates* over the airwaves on a daily basis. Sounds like a case of the Brits having some good taste here.
yep, the "Hussein" name-calling thing is getting tiresome. I'm also tired of the complaining about the so-called "spending" bill... someday , somewhere in America we eventually have to fix things. For about 40 years nothing has been repaired or upgraded. It's about time things are repaired. All they do in Congress is argue about it all while things just deteriorate. Everything costs a trillion dollars anyway so with trillions then fix it. Stop complaining and start working. I want to see wind power and solar power in my lifetime, not hear all the arguments against getting this going.
As for this issue, although I may not agree with them, especially Fred Phelps, I don't think that they should not be allowed in a country, especially a free one. Let them speak and make asses of themselves, it's not hurting anyone.
Let them speak and make asses of themselves, it's not hurting anyone.
I agree that they should be allowed to speak their shallow minds... but what they say does hurt. Just ask family members of the various servicemen whose funerals are attacked by the Phelps phanatics.
If I heard right , Barack Hussein Obama even called himself by his middle name. They didn't want to hear it during the Elections because is made him sound like a Muslim, Which he is. People say he is a CHRISTIAN, if he is , WHY did they have to cover pictures of Jesus when he visited Georgetown?????????????????????????? Why does he support Killing of the Unborn. Even after they were aborted and still lived, That my friends is MURDER. Me as a Christian say one thing to myself, Jesus said you are either with me or against , you can"t be both.
Only "National Sentement" I see is please don't let my job go away!!!! Barry and his gang of thugs is simply the new gang on the block..
Not Black but an ARAB! theres a difference.. sorry he grew up with a scewed identy join the club.. Pride in being an American is not in good taste, gods help if your happy to be white :)
Most people just wish the Eastern FatCats would just go away.. oh and take Arnold with them..
Judy #9.1, keep that thought. When the 16+% home loan interest and 20+% inflation (the hidden taxes) gets here in about 12-18 mos, you're going to need all the optimism you can muster. No one is saying things aren't broken and need fixed, or that the economy is trashed and needs help. But spending the country into oblivion to further an agenda and pay off his backers is nothing more than national suicide.
I use to listen to Rightwing Radio when I was driving alot for work....Only because it was the only station that would come in clearly in my vehicle. I subsequently listened to alot of Savage, Lenvin, Hanady...etc.
All of these idiots are doing nothing more then perpetuating the divide in america. They are Properly Labled as an Extremests, because thats exactly what they are.
Anyone who doesn't believe exactly like they do is labled a "Liberal"...a term of which I don't think any of them could really define...they just like throwing the term out there.
Glad to see Savage was banned in the UK. It's exactly what he diserves for perpetuating hate and lies, which is exactly what he and the rest like him does.
These Hate Mongers need to be thrown into the same catagory as the other hate groups such as the Klan, White Power groups, and so on. They're no different with their platform of hate, lies and contempt for anyone who doesn't think exactly like they do.
They're no different with their platform of hate, lies and contempt for anyone who doesn't think exactly like they do.
These Hate Mongers need to be thrown into the same category as the other hate groups such as the Klan, White Power groups, and so on.
Sound like you have the same contempt for someone who doesn't think like you. You can dislike his opinions, you have the right to do so. However, you want him and other right wing talk show hosts labeled the same as white power groups? Now that is extremist.
Good choice of examples there DaveNGina.....I find it comical you neglected to add the Black Pathers, Weathermen, and some of the other more "liberal" extremists.
Face it, you're a hypocrit. Since you like to label people, you won't be offended by that commment.
And, if Savage should be sent to the chambers, he should at least hold the door for Olbermann.
I guess you never listened to Alan Combs then? I used to listen to him on my drive home form work..He was on during my commute (11pm-11:45).. He encouraged people with opposing views to call in and then wouldn't let them get a word in..I would say 90% of the time he would hang up on them..So i guess there is nuts on both sides...
I listened to him just for the entertainment value...
I believe the Quran, like the many versions of the bible are good books. People/groups pervert the themes. I have issues with the Quran on 'infidels' who cannot be converted, but I divert. Mr. Savage does foster hate and promote fear among the wonderful people of this great country. I would love to see him in Russia- a good fit- maybe he does work for the KGB! UK may do as they please. What did we do to "Cat Stevens" now a Muslim. He is a man of peace and music. He does not promote hate:)
Entertainment is full of people that "whore" themselves for the almighty dollar. From Larry Flint, Howard Stern and Marilyn Manson to Rush Limbaugh and Michael Savage. Making yourself controversial by saying or doing outrageous things is a time worn strategy. Let's all remember one thing, all of them have one main goal, to make a lot of money. They are all multi-millionaires. If you think for a moment that any of them are in it because they want to make America a better place you've been fooled again. We've been talking about changing America. Well the biggest change that's needed is that we need to stop being such big suckers.
You are mostly correct ( IMO ). They do make themselves rich by telling their audience exactly what they want to hear. The problem is that Savage's audience are considered (by the Brits and others) to be potentially dangerous. The Brits do not want them to be incited anymore than we would appreciate Islamic radicals using our radio spectrum to urge domestic militants toward violent acts against the U.S..
I don't agree with people being censored in Britain, Saudi Arabia, Iran, or anywhere. But, these other countries have a different idea. They are entitled to it. Their people can change it. We did (in 1776 & 2008). In both those instances, enough of us stopped being suckers to make change happen.
dan, i agree with you, these "personalities" are willing to say anything to be noticed. I fear that one day someone truly unbalanced and dangerous will feel inspired by these hate mongers and do what Timothy McVeigh did. When that happens who is more responsible, the unbalanced person or the on air personalities who fed his anger and paranoia?
Once great England, how so far down you have ruinously fallen.
Sharia law is now codified within British Common Law. Unreal. England is now controlled by the muslim. Cute.
Muslims gather at the arrival of returning British troops and condemn them with vicious remark, hate speech, hate and threat placards against the soldiers and England - its people and this is fully sanctioned by the British government. No arrests.
So, Micheal Savage is banned. But not a william ayers or jerrimiah wright, for starters. Jeeze Michael, who knew that telling the truth would make you persona non grata?
Are you observant Americans starting to understand why Michael Savage was banned? Do you understand what is going on here...................? Are you so blind to not realize that this was an under-the-table deal between Fuhrer obama and gordon brown...., the Socialist (Fabian) Prime Minister.
Are you so blind as to not realize this is one angle of progressive censorship and that the jackbooted-black shirt "Fairness Doctrine", along with other forms of control and "benign" Martial Law is well at hand in the USA, vis-a-vis the Heil obama totalitarian move.........? Kiss your liberties, freedoms goodbye.
I actually hear more hate from Fred Phelps than from Savage. Fred Phelps is GLAD 9/11 happened and that there is AIDS. He is glad when a homosexual is killed. How glad is he? His followers set up protests at soldier's funerals about the evils of homosexuality.
I haven't heard Savage wanting to kill homosexuals. Or thanking god for disasters and disease. I haven't heard Savage making up a protest to go to a funeral. I know Savage isn't a fan of homosexuals and that is him. He has the right NOT to accept every single type of person out there; we all do. But he's not calling for their deaths and suffering.
Savage speaks his opinion, but he doesn't seem to ask for an act to be done (Unless it is to write to your Congressman, which everyone says to do about something).
Here's something else: Savage considers himself a 'REAL' Conservative; anti-abortion, the right to bear arms, etc.. He slams Rush for trying to be the posterboy of the Republican Party. I will say, that Savage attacks both sides of the party. He attacked Bush, McCain, Obama, Fox News, Cnn News, etc.
And, that kind of person I would listen to if given the choice to listen to them or someone who will bash one party, but not the other. I'm not a republican or a democrat, neither conservative, nor liberal. I'm an independent and I like to listen to both sides and I like to hear criticism on both sides.
Yes the guy is an idiot but he is entitled to have an opinion that´s cost of free society. Anyone that considers themselves a small "d" democrat has to reconcile this position even if they disagree with person producing the poor opinion.
Congratulations to Britain. He is one of the most radical, obnoxious people I have ever heard on the radio. Disgusting and espousing hatred constantly. He should be banned from radio, period.
Oh no, is that censorship. No, I think it's protectiing our freedom, believe it or not. Savage would like it his way, or nothing.
To me, he is East Coast obnoxious in the biggest way.
uMMM, he lives in California...I have only heard bits and pieces of his show...I don't find him any more offensive then any thing i have heard on Air America...How about the Obama Love fest on MSNBC,Cnn,and all the other love channels..That's good right???
I remember when President Bush was elected and like all Presidents they head off to Canada..There was a big deal made about his DWI...Some here wanted him bared from Canada, for no other reason other than to embarrass him and the country....
President Obama is an admitted cocaine and pot user and not a word about banning him from Canada...Why the double standard?
So yes, maybe he should be on that list for his admitted drug use....
Why would Obama be on the list? Does he preach hate or propose violence be done to those he disagrees with?
Well one would have to wonder considering he sat and listened to his own preacher Wright for all those years. How did it go? Oh Yes! NOT GOD BLESS AMERICA GOD D#%@ AMERICA! The apple doesn't fall far from the tree, and Obama is no exception.
When has Glenn Beck ever preached hate or proposed violence? I love how he gets lumped in with all the other supposed "Republican whack jobs" when he is more outraged at Republicans than he is at Democrats.
Thanks for all the non-answer responses. Not one of you supplied a relevant and substantiated response to my question. Only false equivalences and non-sequiters. Typical...
Iowa Dem. Obama and his cronies threatened to release the names of AIG employees knowing that there would be death threats against them if they did not give contracted bonuses back. He has strong armed banks into taking TARP money, and won't allow them to give it back (much like the mob). He is strong arming Private Equity and Hedge Funds threatening to release the white house press corp for not taking his "deal" for Chrysler while he turns it over to his cronies in the UAW. He ran all of his competitors out of the race in his run for Senate in Illinois with threats to smear them. He wants to make college loans run solely through the government and tie public service (slavery) to the loans. This guy along with Robert Gibbs and Rahm Emanuel is a full on GANGSTER!! Is this enough evidence for you?
This is too funny, He is abit extreme. Although I know they used the same law to keep extremist (terrorist inciting) people out of the country. A year or two ago they kicked out a real activist muslim and so It's all fair. Although they can keep them out of the country I don't think they can stop exposer to the extremist messages however bad they are, due to the internet and the media. Realize that because of this article alone more people will wonder about his message and will read more about him. While savage's message is devisive, it too is very fun to listen to. He keeps the airwaves exciting by not toeing the line and following the guy infront of him. Don't worry there are many other places in the world to visit, Savage won't miss much.
I know I should be falling on the side of free speech but these guys are just bad for America. They foster hate and anger and keep us all from trying to find common ground.
There is no common ground. People don't look for it. Until yesterday I considered myself a moderate.
The same people that ragged on me yesterday for wanting to protect my kids from crap on TV, are all for censoring those that don't spew thier version of hate.
I think that is the point, addiem; it is ridiculous to censor anyone. Because this is what will happen: You censor something and something just as equally bad will appear. You can't win. It's sort of like that thing I heard about people wanting the N-word censored. Go ahead! Censor it! Something just as bad will spread around.
Now, here's a trick question: A lot of people want America to be a tolerant country. We want to tolerate everyone else and their beliefs. However, if someone voices a different opinion, should they not be tolerated as well? By tolerate, I don't mean agree with.
Janeane Garafalo: check our her rant on Keith Olberman's Countdown on the Tea Party Protesters. I can't post links for some reason but search "Janeane Garafalo teabaggers" on Youtube.com and you will get an earful of hate.
I say anyone who is in the media and says that if so-and-so is elected, I'm leaving the country/business. And then so-and-so IS elected. . .and they are still here.
Ted Kennedy: Proof that you can get away with murder AND be knighted because of your namesake. Only in America (except for the knighted part; that happened in England). Speaking of which, isn't there something in the Constitution about how a Senator isn't supposed to have another title (like the one you get when you are knighted)? If that's true, why hasn't anyone thrown him out yet?
There's a loophole in that somewhere. I can't remember exactly what it is, but I think it has to do with the fact that it's only honorary as he's not a British Citizen so he can't actually hold the title of 'Knight of the Realm". I'd have to ask my husband again. I only half listened through his explanation the first time because I was also half asleep.
Sad comment on what was once a proud nation. Similar to Western Europe, the UK has now chosen the route of pacifism rather than addressing the real issues that cry out for attention.
The faint of heart and PC no doubt cringe at Savage's battle cry of "Borders, Language, and Culture", and if you are among that group it's unlikely that you'll heed the warning.
Now I wonder what prompted the U.K. to make this announcement?
... Here's a hint (although I doubt many readers will see the connection), unwittingly offered by the BBC on it's web site - designed no doubt to tout the wonders of integration and acceptance.
Islam is Britain's second most popular religion ... estimated at 2.4 million Muslims. (The Muslim population in Britain grew by more than 500,000 from 2004 - 2008!)
There are over 600 mosques in the UK and around 60 Muslim schools.
A recent surge in immigration in the wake of changes to the immigration laws in the late 1990s has had controversial results, with allegations that there has been an increase in enforced arranged marriages. Home Office figures show that the number of Pakistani men using their wife's status to gain entry to Britain increased from 1,740 in 1995 to 3,510 in 1997.
Integration is not part of their plan. When you whine about separation of church and state ... which by the way was written to prohibit the State from forming a religion not the other way around ... consider that Muslims consider Shari'ah Law as being created not by man (they abhor such law) but communicated from their false god to their equally false prophet.
I wonder who is on our list?
Freedom of speech lost and fading in the UK? Freedom of speech is the right to say what you want, without censorship, right? No compromise.
These Laws have been around since 1986.

I disagree with limiting free speech, but I tuned out Michael Savage a long time ago.
Please tell me how the "Fairness Doctrine" is going to pass when President Obama has stated many times he is against it.
BAD has a point, however, can't Congress overturn the President's vote? I really want to know.
All in all, how much can the President take if he is constantly pushed the Fairness Doctrine to sign:
Congress: Fairness Doctrine
Obama: Veto.
Congress: Fairness Doctrine
Obama: Veto.
Congress: We can keep this up, can you?
It's going to come down to who will break first and hopefully not Obama.
Congress can overturn a veto with a 2/3 majority vote.
Thanks, Chuck. I wasn't sure if it could be done.
ANYONE WHO has ever said THE BIBLE IS a book of hate or speaks hate against Christains should be added to the list, too, then. We have to be fair.
Specifically, and with thanks to the Utah Education Network,
This is no different from the United Kingdom's perspective on the question. U.S. citizens found to be in violation of that particular section of the first Amendment can find themselves in prison - either state or federal.
Get your facts straight before you post.
Savage is still free to say whatever he wants. And, if he really wants to go to Britain, maybe he could take the Chunnel and then march right to Trafalgar Square and then still freely say whatever he wants.
He'll just have to pay the consequences.
If I'm not mistaken, Savage is Jewish.
This would make the Brits....anti-Semites????
BillyBob
Thanks for clafifying. I like the analogy. I guess that's why we have both fire fighters and rescue victims in the world. You may think Savage "starts the fire" with his opinion, and I don't listen to him enough to really know, but my observation has been that there is a strong positive correlation with teaching kids to hate, recruitment, terrorist training, and jihadists. So despite whether one believes it's a book of hate or not, it is certainly utilized as a means to that end. This is an undeniable fact, so really it depends on what your definition of "is" is. Could you agree with a modified statement: " The Quran is used as a book of hate"?
I have been known to change my ideas when presented with the proper argument and not rabble rousing vomit language spewing extremests, on both sides of the issue.
the rest are easy to deal with, just turn em off!
Freedom of speech is truly dead in the U.K. (unless you are a liberal socialist POS)! Odumbo and Piglosi are trying the same here! Wake up people; stop following the herd!
ask miss california about freedom of speech-her life was destroyed because she spoke her heart-and then the fag even gets to call her a bitch on video
So the UK is intolerant of Savage.
In short, he speaks HIS mind, not YOURS.
Well, I half agree with you REPUB.
Boy, what a party it would be to get everyone from that list together for beers and hotdogs! Pass the purple kool-aid!
Maybe you should re-read the 10th Amendment. States have challenged the Fed's and lost. Texas will be staying in the Union.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tenth_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constitution
Being an American is a pretty good thing, Hang around you learn to like it.
I think it's great! As a nation we should be so bold! Common decency comes before freedom of speech....remember the kindergarden rule "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all". And don't bother disagreeing with me, it won't change my mind.
OOPs! They forgot to put Rush on the list.
You know with nobama in office no one is on the barred list from the U.S. the more dangerous the person the more welcome here they are.
There is a reason why we Americans ran SCREAMING from Great Britain.
We could care less. I still could care less what happens in that damp, cold, rainy hole called Great Britain.
Give me California sunshine any day!
I know they would. It is just funny that these people don't realize that all the Social Securtiy taxes they have paid will stay with the United States. When they try and figure out what their Military, roads, schools etc are going to cost, they use those tea bags to cover their eyes to hide the tears.
bad1v - obviously the U.S. gov't doesn't have to follow the U.S. Constitution. After all, what are we going to do about it?
Has it really ever been any different? We are just the Serfs and the King is the Gov't.
I guess the border is really there to keep Texans in, and not illegals out.
Oh, and every time you "threaten" Texans with an invasion of Mexicans, we have to laugh, because it's already happening.
So, too bad for all of you who actually believe in the Constitution. The Feds found it easier to interpret it as non-existent than to follow it.
(What kind of "King" has "Limited Powers" anyway? Limited powers for the king? That's Serf talk!)
BAD1V,
Your statement about Social Security and the money staying in the USA is totally false...If you worked here and qualify for SS it don't make any difference where you live..
Bad1V,
Even if Obama vetoes the Fairness Doctrine, the Senate can override his veto with a 2/3 vote. And with the Democrats being one seat away from a filibuster-proof Senate this is not impossible.
Oh, and if you think that only people like Michael Savage can be denied their right to speak, check out the following:
This can happen to you.
The radical Islamists do have the Brits on the run.
http://www.religionnewsblog.com/23235/violent-muslim-demonstration
Let's Talk,
OK, you embarrassed me. I was thinking it would be funny to suggest that we ban Savage from the US. But you are right, it is free speech, and worth EVERY PENNY.
Probably no one is on our list, we let everyone come over here, even illegally.
In the 70's John Lennon was on "our" list. The Britt's won't let Snoop Dog in their country either. No Michael Savage, no Snoop Dog- not in England.
I wonder how much Savage paid to be put on this list.
Now, he can write a book about it and get richer! I'm surprised others haven't "Begged" to be on this list!
If one is on a list created by government officials they might be doing something right. I hope I offend every partisan hack in Washington.
Texans
How about Texas and California both secede and we set up our own country. The gay people who don't like our laws can move to Iowa.
With us combined, we would almost outnumber the rest of the states, and between us, we are major economic powers apart from the country.
I am NOT a socialist and am very angry that our President is spending into oblivion.
Sick of party squabling,
The UK is a real nice free place....If that is true why are there CCTV camera on just about every corner...You don't see that here in the US... And you had the nerve to say the patriot act is restrictive....Try again...
Hey Ryan
I have no use for any of the people mentioned in the article but still support their right to say what they like to anyone who wants to listen.
To hear their media put it, they are usually too drunk off their butts to really care.
Im with you Marty, screw these people.
Thank you Marty and Nelson for showing your true liberal fascist colours. I enjoy Michael Savage and don't find him the slightest bit offensive. The thought police abound; disagree with me and you shall be banned and shamed!
Michael Savage, Michael Moore no difference.
His real name is Michael Weiner, Whether you pronounce it weener or whiner, it just isn't the image he wants to project.
Sorry, his real first name is Alan.
I agree with ya Checkmate.
Great name! Fairness does not apply to us Republicans! I just love stirring up the libs!
Censorship is a wonderful thing!
Hey, you can't say that!
Belive it or not
Isn't FREEDOM wonderful !
No doubt George Washington would be on Britain's list as well.
Who gives a rat's ass what Britain does.
We had better, however, be concerned with the assault on free speech in our country.
Amen, with Hussien in charge, Its coming
Of course George Washington would be on Britains list. He led a rebellion against the lawful government of the time. One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter, back then and also today.
Who is and always has been our strongest ally in every modern conflict if not the British, and under George Bush you Republicans were all for England and now you are against England.
Because they disagree with one of your Prophets the Great Michael Savage because of his social views, you people are genuinely sick.
Im a republican and im not against england because they did this, more power to them we should do the same here, difference is that I could really give a rats ass what party is in office, there all the same crap to me, I dont get into this stupidity like you of course calling people sick because they belong to another party. looser.
Sure we should be concerned with the assault on free speech WITHIN our own country. However, free speech doesn't apply in most other countries.
Hey, lookie there, collapsed by the community. Censorship at its finest!! Our Presidents middle name is hussein, the left liked to call Bush W, whats the difference?
Double standard and censorship!!!
To crazy-351712;
Ding...give the man a cigar! You are fomenting dissent while they were being ergonomic.
Hey, ghost....would you be offended if we just referred to him as Barry or Barry Sotero?
Me thinks you'd be in a tizzy over that, as it insinuates he's a man with two identities....the lefty socialist and the media created idol.
Wrong, it was an attempt to be censored, it was not thinly veiled because I have learned over the years that the left are a bunch of hypocrites and knew you wouldnt be able to just blow by the comment!!
Thanks for proving my point!
retard- as a Republican I have never supported Britain- nor ever will! I only support the U.S. and Texas! Screw the rest (start with France)!
Texas the land of steers and queers. Actually is what my DI in Marine Corps Boot camp used to stress to "us". That was in 1967. I don't think he had real high opinion of Texas.
He was actually killed in Vietnam in 1969. Maybe someone from Texas got him in his sights? Who knows?
BobU2,
"Hey, ghost....would you be offended if we just referred to him as Barry or Barry Sotero?"
At least Michael Savage can prove that he is an American Citizen. More than can be said or proven about Barack Obama. ( Solero )
Ridiculous morons like Savage should be banned anywhere and everywhere. They serve NO useful purpose whatsoever.
I'll probably do the same thing that you do. Get real punk!
Everybody knows Savage has to go over the top in order to keep his listeners. Just like Limbaugh.
Joe, have you ever listened to the Haters on the Left, Chris Matthews, Keith Olbermann, Wolf Blitzer.
Rush is mild compared to these MORANS.
The dems are all against censorship. Until someone says something they don't agree with. Then they go "what Constitutional right?"
Truly, Rush is a disgusting and insidious dolt.
TedC and addiem
Sure punches your buttons thought.
Yeah, and I have only heard 1 1/2 of his shows, then made my husband turn the channel.
Ditto to the lefts talking heads!!
You are a moron
Does that include Keith Olberman?
According to newMUGU the government was "FREE" to ensure that the signers of the Declaration of Independence used their freedom is a responsible manner. At the time, from governments point of view, the founding fathers were completely irresponsible. That's why there was a revolution.
Like I said. The dims are all for nudity, violence and cursing on public TV. Try to censor that and they go nuts screaming about censorship. Tell them they are full of crap; And they will not hesitate to demand that you are silenced, labled and discriminated against.
Welcome to the world of hypocricy (-1sp)
Freedom comes with a huge responsibility.
Air america must be banned also. That station is full of hate.
TedC. -
Get real punk?
Well put!
thanks GDAUM well put and thanks for closing this discussion on a good note.
Oh God, another Obama basher. Calling him by his middle name, how original. -_-
yep, the "Hussein" name-calling thing is getting tiresome.
Judy, in the few words that you typed, you eloquently expressed the current national sentiment. Very good.
Well said, Judy.
As for this issue, although I may not agree with them, especially Fred Phelps, I don't think that they should not be allowed in a country, especially a free one. Let them speak and make asses of themselves, it's not hurting anyone.
Adam Sims:
John Bartimac:
Which he isn't. But you aren't willing to accept that fact, are you?
"WHY did they have to cover pictures of Jesus when he visited Georgetown?"
John, I don't suppose you actually have a source for this do you?
George Bush said "your either with us or against us"
Christ said "Love others as you love yourself"
Big difference.
"They didn't want to hear it during the Elections because is made him sound like a Muslim, Which he is.
That is not a valid statement.
"People say he is a CHRISTIAN, if he is , WHY did they have to cover pictures of Jesus when he visited Georgetown?"
Assumming that it really happened you cannot assume that it was at the request of the Obama people.
"Why does he support Killing of the Unborn."
Many Christians support Abortion.
"Even after they were aborted and still lived, That my friends is MURDER."
That is a crock. He opposed a law that he legitimately felt was repetitious of existing US law. That there was no need for the law at the state level.
"Me as a Christian say one thing to myself, Jesus said you are either with me or against , you can"t be both."
But you have no standing to claim that he is against Jesus, just becuase your view of Jesus disagrees with his.
No rights in CA :(
Judy #9.1, keep that thought.
It's important to read this:
"Savage" is well known for his troll-like behavior on air. He is willing to take the extremist role no matter who he defames... all for ratings.
Sadly, he's quite popular.
Into ze boxcars! Mach schnell!
Sound like you have the same contempt for someone who doesn't think like you. You can dislike his opinions, you have the right to do so. However, you want him and other right wing talk show hosts labeled the same as white power groups? Now that is extremist.
Pot. Kettle. Black.
Please take your hate speech elsewhere.
Or the Black Panthers? Always the rights hate groups
And what about Keith Olberman?
Good choice of examples there DaveNGina.....I find it comical you neglected to add the Black Pathers, Weathermen, and some of the other more "liberal" extremists.
Face it, you're a hypocrit. Since you like to label people, you won't be offended by that commment.
And, if Savage should be sent to the chambers, he should at least hold the door for Olbermann.
TJ
Dan-410533......
You are mostly correct ( IMO ). They do make themselves rich by telling
their audience exactly what they want to hear. The problem is that Savage's
audience are considered (by the Brits and others) to be potentially dangerous.
The Brits do not want them to be incited anymore than we would appreciate
Islamic radicals using our radio spectrum to urge domestic militants toward
violent acts against the U.S..
I don't agree with people being censored in Britain, Saudi Arabia, Iran, or
anywhere. But, these other countries have a different idea. They are entitled
to it. Their people can change it. We did (in 1776 & 2008). In both those
instances, enough of us stopped being suckers to make change happen.
Ian
I subscribe to the idea of personal censorship also. I censor things all the time via my remote control
dan, i agree with you, these "personalities" are willing to say anything to be noticed. I fear that one day someone truly unbalanced and dangerous will feel inspired by these hate mongers and do what Timothy McVeigh did. When that happens who is more responsible, the unbalanced person or the on air personalities who fed his anger and paranoia?
Britain HAS to forbid Savage's entry! Imagine what would happen if he said what he says in a country that is in such proximity to muslim populations.
Heil obama!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iXBbCn2K7bE
I actually hear more hate from Fred Phelps than from Savage.
The funny thing is. This will only boost thier popularity. B/c people will tune in just to hear someone that "the man" is censoring.
If the demotards could learn this it would be a miracle.
To me, he is East Coast obnoxious in the biggest way.
uMMM, he lives in California...I have only heard bits and pieces of his show...I don't find him any more offensive then any thing i have heard on Air America...How about the Obama Love fest on MSNBC,Cnn,and all the other love channels..That's good right???
can masturbation substitute as love?
Glenn Beck's not on the list?
Obamas not on the list?
Why would Obama be on the list? Does he preach hate or propose violence be done to those he disagrees with?
I remember when President Bush was elected and like all Presidents they head off to Canada..There was a big deal made about his DWI...Some here wanted him bared from Canada, for no other reason other than to embarrass him and the country....
President Obama is an admitted cocaine and pot user and not a word about banning him from Canada...Why the double standard?
So yes, maybe he should be on that list for his admitted drug use....
Who gives a rats ass what happens in that irrelevant @!$%#hole England?
Who gives a rats ass about what happens in New York?
Not I.
If it werent for all the Idiot morons running washingtion I would say , who gives a rats ass about D.C.?
But thats another story.
Angry white male.
Forever better than a colored victim.
"White" victim or one of "color" - what's the difference in attitude? (None, but that's not what you want to hear.)
Oh yeah, hypocrisy - the great equalizer.
Hate Speach!?!?! I guess not if it puts down White Males..
I would ban in the US,
1. Keith Olberman
2. chris Mathews
3. bill o reily
4. all the retards at cnn
5. all the retards at foxnews
oh cant forget the biggest clown of all bill maher
You forgot Micheal Moore
dont forget congress
Al Gore?
Rev Al Sharpton?
Jesse Jackson?
Ok, now that absolutely everyone has been "named" and censored, can we put you in a a rubber room and feed in the "Disney Channel"?
Really, just change the channel, or complain to the management - better yet, the show sponsors and cc the management.
Don't forget:
Janeane Garafalo: check our her rant on Keith Olberman's Countdown on the Tea Party Protesters. I can't post links for some reason but search "Janeane Garafalo teabaggers" on Youtube.com and you will get an earful of hate.
Al Franken
All left-wing actors and singers
All left-wing bloggers
All left-wing media, okay, almost all media
OMG, too many to count.
I say anyone who is in the media and says that if so-and-so is elected, I'm leaving the country/business. And then so-and-so IS elected. . .and they are still here.
Racist Obama and wife
TED KENNEDY
THE CLINTONS
Janet Napolitano
These are the true enemies of Freedom they are the scum of socialist garbage!
Both Michael Savage and Hamas are terrorists.
No moral equivelent there, nice try though for a leftist wanna be, Hamas actually kill people.
I wonder how we can ban them here? Can we add Rush Limbaugh to the list?
Soon enough.
I funny how dems are against censorship. Until they hear an opinion that differs from thiers.
Yep, think Rush should top the list
Thank you for confirming that.
