A spokesman denied that Miss California pageant officials told Carrie Prejean to publicly apologize for her statement opposing same-sex marriage during the Miss USA pageant. She was urged only to reiterate that she didn't mean to offend anyone and to use the national spotlight "to heal some wounds," he said.

Welcome to a "Brave New" America. You must think like everyone else. You cannot express what you believe. Why does one have to believe homosexuality is OK?
I agree, the 1st amendment seems to apply to everyone but Christians and we are supposed to apologize for our worldview. I get tired of having things crammed down my throat. Christianity is a relationship with our Lord and becomes so much a part of who one is and our country wants to suppress our views.
Nobody cares. I think Ms. America is an example of another
very twisted form of male chauvanism. Gay men hate women.
Try exploring the job market for designers, go to art school,
explore jobs in media. Gay men dominate and put women down.
What ever happened to freedom of speech?
And when did it become wrong to have a difference of opinion? I believe tolerance is the issue here, and since I am for gay rights, you should know that the gay community must also practice tolerance with people that do not share their views.
Let me see a pretty woman, who has no life accomplishments expresses her view on gay marriage and why do we care?
Exactly.
We must or we wouldn't have read the article or taken the time to comment
She has a right to her opinion. If they didn't want to hear her answer the question shouldn't have been asked. I think gays should have a right to their opinion, but so should everyone else.
She is an example of a different form of male chauvanism. Gay men hate women. They subject them to the same slap down, foot in your face, get back as do the worst of male chauvinists. Gay men are hypocrits.
Can we just get over this? I mean, Miss California REALLY took the spotlight off of the new Miss USA, didn't she? I hardly hear anything about her and she won the thing! In my honest opinion, I really thought Miss Arizona should have won the pageant...and it's not because I live in Arizona. I thought she was a much better contestant and she had an unique beauty to her. Anyway, I'm not against anyone's lifestyle, but I simply hate it when it's always thrown in your face! We have Gay Pride marches and now Gay Marriages being approved in different states. Yes, I believe Miss California should state the truth and I saw Perez Hilton's reaction after she stated her opinion which wasn't very professional. However, I am a heterosexual woman and I don't throw that in peoples faces. So, can we just get on with life and concentrate on what is happening out there now with the Swine Flu Pandemic and the fact that President Obama needs to apologize on his part regarding the stupid & cruel stunt that they pulled yesterday in New York City? And, yes, I did vote for President Obama. Sorry for the long comment here, but it just had to be said..thanks for listening!
We want to argue! So be quiet. No, just kidding...This is to anyone. The arguments will go on and on and on...In the end, Carrie Prejean was honest. Non-insulting. And, very nice about it...Like I said, you can argue over and over, but those ARE the facts. Perez, should not have taken insult. By way of his hate and vulgarity OPENLY, showing that HE DOESN'T care what people think, he should have been fine with her answer. It was a direct and demanding question, and, if she would have answered YES TO HOMOSEXUALITY, he would have had NO issues. No "she should have answered mote tactfully." This is the case with liberals. They are superb at SPIN DOCTORS. They are unreasonable. They lack soundness. GB.
People in NY were in a panic and running. My question is where were they running to?
Miss USA and the question still needs to be answer Why do we need to listen or care?
I guess I don't understand what you're referring to, what do you mean where were they running to? If you saw a jumbo jet outside a building in New York City after 9/11 being chased by 2 F-16's, wouldn't you be running to safer ground? If we don't need to listen or care, what do you mean by Miss USA and the question still needs to be answered? I'm not being sarcastic here, I truly don't understand what you said...thanks...
You are really funny. You should find a DVD or old video of "The Gods Must Be Crazy"
Keith Lewis, the gay activist who runs the Miss California pageant, said Miss California had an agenda. One has to wonder just what his agenda is! Methinks perhaps he protests too much! Don't all the gays have an agenda? It appears so!
Gays are prejudice against women, I realized that when I was 14 years old.
It is another form of male domination over women. Chauvanism with a gay
twist.
Maybe they just didn't like you in particular not all women.
why does a homosexual run a MISS whoever pagent? that is crazy. homosexuals don't want to be "judged" by the churches, why should they have anything to do with judging normal women?
I don't care about the pageant, but I do care that if you don't behave like a drone you are in deep #%*#!!! Since when this become a country where you can't state your opinion without worring about backlash? If he didn't like the answer, then he shouldn't have asked the question. In my opinion she doesn't have anything to apologixe for, she did nothing wrong. The gay guy is the one with the problem and I also agree that marriage is between a man and a woman.
Sorry Beenthere-donethat, it finally hit me...I saw your other comments. I guess lack of sleep for 5 days in a row does catch up to you....have a good day.
I happen to agree with Miss California! The Bible is specific saying "unnatural affections." Sodom and Gommorah were destroyed because of their homosexual activity. Let this young lady have an opinion and move on. I thought in a land of the free that we could express an opinion...her opinion just happened to be aired on national TV. "Heal the wounds" means apologize in my mind...so she didn't lie - she just changed the words to what they really mean. Keep your faith, Miss California! You said what should have been said!
I agree wholeheartedly that she should have spoken what was in her heart, it's her right. I don't however agree with perpetuating a fable written by men as the word of God.
Everyone who is a citizen of this country should be able to express their opinion, not just the homosexuals. I don't agree with their worldview nor do they with mine, but I should not be under a gag order!
If you don't agree with gays & lesbians you're classified as homophobic and if you aren't for 0bama you're automatically a bigot......what a farce !!!
Let us address what started this stupid fiasco. It all started when an openly gay pageant judge by the name of Perez Hilton posed this question to Prejean - “Vermont recently became the fourth state to legalize same-sex marriage. Do you think every state should follow suit? Why or why not?”
Prejean, then among the final five contestants for the coveted crown, replied, “In my country, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that’s how I was raised and that’s how I think it should be — between a man and a woman.”
So for this San Diego public relations representative Roger Neal to say that the contest officials only urged Prejean to reiterate that she didn’t mean to offend anyone is tantamount to a bare face lie. I say that because Prejean had stated, and once again I quote, “No offense to anybody out there”. To wit, she apologized to any who might be offended when she answered the question. The pageant officials, the pr departments and others connected to the pageant are only trying to cover their asses because they don’t have the guts to stand up and tell the gay community, “look, you asked the question, the lady gave her honest opinion, which by the way under the constitution she is entitled to do, and if you didn’t like the answer that is just tough – Grow the hell up and realize other people are entitled to their opinion whether you like it or not.
It would appear, in this instance, the gay community wants to ram their life style and their beliefs down everyone elses throat, no play on words intended, but they don’t want anyone else doing it to them. Folks there is an age old saying, “you can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink”. I think it is time for everyone, straights and gays alike to admit that is true and get on with our lives.
There was a politically correct to Mr. Hilton’s question and this is how I would have handled such an asinine and irrelevant question: I would have answered it thusly, “According to the constitution there are certain rights and privileges that are left to the states. This would appear to be a states right issue and I believe the citizens of each state should decide that issue themselves. That is the response I would have given and it is a legal and lawful fact – decisions of that nature are states rights issue and should be up to the citizens of each state to decide. No state should follow the suit of any other state based on the Lemming principle! That would be like committing suicide!
While I think all of the ruckus over her answer is stupid...after all, she gave her opinion, which is what they asked for...someone with a little more maturity and worldiness could've worded it better. I think most people understand that when you dress up a comment with "no offense", you mean to be offensive. It's the same logic when someone tells you something rude, then prefaces it with "no offense". If you aren't prepared to take the lumps that can come with taking a stance, don't take it, plain and simple. While I admire her for saying what she believed, I think it is childish of her to now be crying about people not liking it.
Elizabeth, I don't think so, everyone is so uneasy about everything nowadays that you basically have to apologize for everything that comes out of your mouth cause you know someone is going to be "offended", sometimes when you say "no offense" I think that means, I know there are people who don't agree with me but I don't mean to offend anyone. They asked her a question and yes she could have churched it up a little but why should she? she answered the question, they shouldn't be asking questions that bait people.
I agree, she answered their question honestly. However, by saying "no offense", she knew people would be offended by her answer. She shouldn't be crying now to her church that peopel are upset...she knew what she was saying wasn't what they wanted to hear. Basically, I'm saying she should have the courage of her convictions...if you are going to take that stance, don't come crying when people are upset about it.
That being said, I think her being roasted over the coals is stupid. While I don't agree with what she said, that's as much my right as it is hers to have her opinion. However, it's no different than people of her convictions saying that people that don't agree with them are all going to hell....
Its the liberals who won't let this die. This goes to show the level and extent of their hate machine. First they act your credibility, then assasinate your character. now I am certain their will be several lawsuits. The hypocrisy of these scum has no boundaries. They claim if you don't like Obama you are a racist but these same people called Condoleeza Rice at Colin Powell "Aunt Jemima and Uncle Tom.
If your gay and believe you have a right to openly display your beliefs, isn't it a little hypocritical to believe someone else doesn't have the right to voice a different opinion. So does that mean Miss California contestants should be discriminated against for their beliefs one way or another? Why is it inappropriate for the young woman to express her point of view? Hypocrites!!!
Why would the Pageant select a Gay Male Judge for a Beauty Contest? Miss America is selected, I thought, by her appeal to heterosexuals and she serves as an example to women who adhere to the pageant standards. I think what Miss California said was fine, she thinks gay marriage is against her family values and also the religious views in which she believes but she thinks in America everyone has the right to chose their religious beliefs and value system. What's wrong with that? I think she was very tactful.
Marriage is defined in the Oxford Dictionary. Why not create a new word for gay couples who are married in either the church or a civil ceremony that provides them the same rights. The could live in a state of "union".
I don't really understand the whole gay marriage thing anyway. Isn't marriage a Biblical term authorized by God? I have an atheiest friend who is married. I never understood that either? I guess maybe for tax purposes? I think this country should stop confusing our kids and take the word marriage out of government and keep it between couples and our Heavenly Father! The tax man just needs to be concerned with who's living with whom. God doesn't hear the prayers of the lost nor their marriage vows.
If God doesn't hear the prayers of the lost, then how do you become saved? I thought you prayed to God and confess you accept Jesus as your Savior. If he doesn't listen to the prayers of the lost, were you born saved? Or, are you saved just by the fact you're republican? (I assume you are republican because of your narrowmindedness and hate.)
You confess that Christ is the Son of God and it is through Christ that God hears prayers. Christ is our mediator. If you do not invite Christ into your heart then Christ is not your mediator. Without Jesus Christ in your life there is no communication with the Father. Here is one verse but of course there are many more on this subject. But there is only one way to the Father in Heaven and that is Christ.
Romans 8:34" It is Christ who died and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us."
Here is what the Bible says:
John 14:6 "Jesus said to him, No one comes to the Father except through me."
Acts 2:38 "Repent and let everyone of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall recieve the gift of the Holy Spirit"
Hear, believe, repent (change your ways), confess, baptism (although some think this is optional, I have chosen to obey the scriptures which include it in salvation)
You don't pray to God to confess Jesus Christ, God knows your heart already. You must confess Jesus Christ before other men to accept him into your heart.
John 9:31 "Now we know God does not hear sinners; but if anyone is a worshipper of God and does his will, he hears him."
I hopes this answers your question.
Stop trying to understand it and live your own life. But I will say this, it sounds like you have a lot of questions that seemingly you can not find answers to. Perhaps there is no answer and maybe just maybe the reality is becoming clear.
Life is short, be happy with what you have and who you are. If you're a good person who cares for and about your fellow man and woman then you have nothing to worry about.
Frankly, if or when "the end" comes around a lot of so called Christians are going to be surprised... because they are still on earth and not in heaven.
Point being.. stop judging others and let your god handle it for you.
He is a loving, and forgiving God, anyone can seek Him. No matter who they are or what they do. He did not cast out Mary Magdelene, and she was a prostitute. Because of his ACCEPTANCE of her no matter what she did, she gave her life to Him.
So that means he doesn't listen to you.
To Joe in TN, message #15. This is off topic from Miss California but you raised an interesting topic in your post. As an atheist in a 13-year monogomous relationship, I could never understand why other atheists get married either, aside possibly from what you suggested, tax reasons. It's baffling to me also why an atheist would want to participate in a ceremony entied to such religious connotations. I'm not dogging them but I share your confusion why any atheist would want to be in a married relationship. My only other guess would be they want the spotlight and attention on them in front of a group of people, just as couples of other worldviews would. I don't question their right to, I just don't see the need for it.
As far as gay marriage goes though, I don't think anyone should be forced to marry anyone of the same gender. As far as the argument goes that allowing gay marriage would be tantamount to unraveling the moral fabric of mankind, I don't agree with that notion. I just think they just want attention exactly like the hetero couples do when they have marriage ceremonies. Grown adults should have a right to love who they want. I don't see what the big fuss is over allowing same sex couples to have legal rights.
Actually, marriage itself is NOT a religious ceremony...you don't have to get married in a church for it to be legally binding. It's a civil arrangement, hence the reason you can get married in a courhouse. Marriage has been around long before there was Christianity. For a long time, it was a way for families to ensure heirs, and produce wealth...a wealthy man marries his daughter to the son of another wealthy man with a good name...they can say they are relations of that good name, blahblahblah. That's why all the debate about gay marriage is laughable to me...states that don't allow gays to "marry" but have civil unions are essentially allowing them to get married!!
Wait, let me get this right, strutting around in a bathing suit in hopes that your tits and butt will win you a prize is OK in the Christian world.. that's just fine selling your sexuality to get ahead.
But wait - gay's and homosexuality is just wrong.
Hyprocrites - the vast majority of those "preaching" to the rest of us are all hyprocrites.
Who cares what a persons sexual orientation is.. seriously how does this affect YOU? If God has the last say in all this - LET THE MAN DO HIS JOB WHEN THE TIME COMES.
Otherwise you just look like a bunch of radical morons preaching what you yourself can not adhere to.
For the love - who gives a crap what this ditz says, what are her aspirations? I mean what profession requires a beauty pagent background? Oh wait.. landing a sugar daddy.
You feel it is wrong to parade around in swimsuits, but they don't. They feel homosexuality is wrong, but you don't. Sounds like intolerance on both sides to me.
Well said.
I'm just looking forward to the day I can marry my dog and my sister and we can have a three way, the children might look a little peculiar but hey, it sure beats getting AIDS. I will start a campaign I think, Code Woof or It's all in the Family! Perhaps it could be a gay dog?
Jesus would not be expressing that view
Let's twist this another way and see how it works. What if this had been a gay affair of some sort. And somehow, a straight judge was on the panel. What if the straight judge has asked the gay contestant if it thought that the predominance of AIDS among gays was due to their lifestyle? I bet the judge would have been raked over the coals. Why are we picking on this honest woman? Why are we denying the woman the right to have and to express her opinion. Isn't that what Obama in office is supposed to be about, the achievement of civil rights and equality. Does the gay-rights obsessed media not realize they are persecuting a woman? More important, why is no one question Perez Hilton for bringing politics into this arena? How dare anyone ask Miss Ca. to keep her religion out of the pageant. She did not bring religion into it. Perez brought his lifestyle choice into it and she responded with her view of that lifestyle and affirmed hers. Perez is the one guilty of trying to make tawdry an event that champions the wholesome female, and of which he would have no appreciation since gay men are so anti-woman. The organizers of the event made a poor choice with Perez and they owe Miss Prejean an apology and need to never put a gay man or woman on the panel. If you cannot see the injustice done here, you are one sick person. Only a sick person would put an angry gay man on the judging panel at such an offense,,,and have an issue with her comments. Hooray for Miss. California.
There are more straight people with AIDS than there are gays.
it always scares me to think of a homosexual who is a woman hater being on a jury.
Actually,,,the comments here make me ask. Where are Obama, Sharpton and the Rev. Jesse Jackson to defend the civil rights of Miss Prejean?
Maybe they're waiting for the rest of you "Christians" to step up. Civil Rights is not just a Black issue.
I think that people on this board should not refer to "ram it down your throat", we should certainly not say " go shove it" I dont believe gays are anti woman, just unsuccessful in mating with them, it's far easier to be promiscuous with males the percentage is much higher than promiscuous females. In any case, this heterosexual young woman has every right to voice her opinion even if she said "Gay Marriage sucks" if America's Queen disagrees, tough! First Amendment, you can't even ban the "N" word legally! So, let's all continue to work on encouraging Bath House visits and unsafe sex.
Terri, I am sure that Jesus would not sanction homosexuality either, the Bible says you shall not sow your seed on the ground, having same sex intercourse is just that, sterile.
She is entitled to her own opinion. This is America after all.
I do not feel that same sex relationships are ok either. It is my opinion and I will state it as loud and clear as I see fit.
Talk about a 180. Are we having witch hunts for non gays now? Give the girl a break. She voiced an opinion. You don't have to agree or disagree with it, nor should she have been punished for it, which is what seems to be happening.
"`we ... look forward to a time in the near future when she can put down her personal agenda' and resume her responsibilities as Miss California, Jenkins wrote."
Excuse me, but she wasn't the one in the pageant who raised the subject, was she. Her opinion, and the belief promoted in the churches she visited, were not different than that held by just about everyone forty years ago. Just because _some— people have changed their opinions in no way obligates _everyone else— to change.
No, but she was the one who gave that answer. She could've answered it differently, and still said essentially the same thing, or she could've just dodged it altogether. She could've said that it's an issue that should be left up to the individual states, whatever. But she chose to give her honest, unadulterated opinion, knowing there were people who didn't agree with her.
And some people that do agree with her. Are you saying that because she answered the way she did that no one should stick up for her? She didn't start this, Perez did.
Exactly--she just said what she thought! Gay choice is just that-Getting sick of not being able to say how I feel as well-Gays seem to have one point of view--THEIRS.
Want to be treated equally, but want to have more rights-The in your face, and you had better take our side or else!
Hate to point it out to you, but if being homosexual is no more a choice than being heterosexual is. Sexuality is a much more complicated thing than most people on you side of the argument want to make it out to be....people don't just wake up one day and think, you know, I changed my mind, i'm gay!
Well, I guess she will no longer be eligable for the Sean Penn "commie, homo lovin sons of a gun" club now.
