The federal system for tracking gun sales is proving to be a major obstacle to the United States as it tries to meet a demand from Mexico to curb the flow of arms from the states to drug cartels.
Loopholes let gun smuggling to Mexico flourish
Seeded on Tue Apr 14, 2009 10:15 PM EDT (msnbc.com)

Is this a ploy by the US government to subvert the right to own firearms? Why would the drug cartel need to buy weapons smuggled from America? I'm sure there are many places other than the US to get assualt rifles. China, Cuba, Russia, all come to mind. Take your pick from any country that wishes us harm. They can probably make their own.
Most of the weapons are coming from south of Mexico, not the US...
Cody,
It's a long walk to China, and I sure they do not sell guns as easy as the US does.
This is just another slant LibTard MSM article. Also notice that all the people they are busting in these smuggling operations are hispanics. I think it's time for a little profiling. Many of the U.S. weaons are ending up in regular homes in Mexico for self protection. A U.S. Ar-15 or Ak-47 is honestly worthless to drug cartels because they are semi-auto only. They would quickly be outgunned by other cartels or the Mexican police who have full-auto firearms.
Of course the pathetic LibTard media does not want to let go of their lies and deceit so they can continue to try and push their agenda. They are sadly wrong if they think even 10% of Americans give two $hits about Mexico. Things will never change there until you overhaul their entire government. Giving them any money is just directly financing their corruption and drug trade.
If you want change in Mexico, then enforce the freaking immigration laws and stop trying to re-direct the public attention to the mythical gun problem.
NO, NO, and NO! WE THE PEOPLE DO NOT WANT THIS BULLSHI! WE DO NOT WANT YOU TO BAN OUR GUNS. When will these people realize we will NOT accept infringements on our rights. WE WILL NOT ACCEPT THIS. Their agenda aint flying w/ the American people. We are waking up to BS! Its not going to work!
There was 29,000 guns seized in Mexico in 2007-08 of these 11,000-12,000 were submitted for tracing by the US. 6,000 of those were succesfully traced and 5,114 or 90% of those 6,000 were found to have come from the US. That is 17% of the weapons seized not 90% as the article would have you believe.
Whenever I've seen video of shootouts in Mexico the bad guys always are using Tek-9 and Uzi style machine pistols and this article tries to claim they're using AR-15s and AK-47s? I originally supported the assault weapon ban as a member of Law Enforcement but the problem is the left couldn't stop there. They want to outlaw private gun ownership which I do not support at all (along with car ownership soon).I no longer support any restrictions on gun ownership because the far left are like crack heads.Once they get started they won't stop until all the rocks (or in this case guns) are gone.
Don't fall for it America!!! You can't be raped, burglarized, assaulted, or threatened if you possess a firearm!
You deserve better rights than the criminals who will always have guns!!!
Join the NRA! Protect your 1st and 2nd Amendment Rights.
Many before you died so you can keep those rights !!!
Right on!!
I will go one step further and make it easy to join.

Sounds like Mexico is setting up a way to try and get more aid money out of the U.S., more welfare for the world, instead of us taking care of our own problems. How long have we been telling Mexico to stop the drug trades? And have they done anything about it? No they tell us it is our problem. Deal with it. Liberals don't want to shut down illegals coming across the boarder so their prices won't go up for their privet parties. The best places I have seen dealing drugs is usually in the rich part of the cities I have lived in. The local cops won't bother them. I see it all the time, and I am not a cop, I just ride a Harley so people think I am cool with it. Here is my solution for both problems, send down a couple squadrons of Cobra's (U.S.M.C.) let them destroy anything to do with the drug trade IE... the head guys house, the area they are growing the stuff, any of the manufacturing/storage areas. Guess what both problems solved.
HARDCORE DEMOCRAT HERE,
Sayz HELL NO to GUN CONTROL... It is the most retarded effort in the history of law enforcement... if you believe it stems from law enforcement. I don't.
Personally, those same people who want to curb all your freedoms want this one the worst...
the only People who really need your guns are the same people who illegally print your money and then charge us interest on it... they need our guns, because if we ever really realize and wake up , to as Thomas Jefferson warned "Are enslaved on the continent our forefathers conquered" by bankers allowed to print and circulate our money. The bankers want to make sure we are unarmed.
Mexicans need to fix Mexico, and their government. No one else can do it for them.
Expatriates need to go home for a while and finally get at least a second or third party in there, one party--- they got it even worse than our two headed evil monsters...R & D
and no R & D is not for Research & Development its for Repubs & Dems...
And in case you think Mac is inaccurate, the BATFE made the same announcement last Friday, I believe. Go figure.
When Mexico stops shipping drugs into the US, maybe we can talk.
Maybe the NYT should do an article on How many of those guns were confiscated than sold back to the cartels. Oh sorry, the NYT's doesnt do reporting, my mistake.
It suggests that if the U.S. Government had cracked down on the flow of illegal aliens crossing the border and the gangs in major cities of this country, many of which likewise crossed the border, much of this problem could have been avoided. Close the border and streamline the deportation process to include deporting and outlawing the use of anchor babies to keep illegal aliens in the United States Mr. President and stop blaming everyone else.
A whole lot of frightened people here in denial. So much easier to blame Mexicans, Chinese, etc etc than to admit any responsibility.
It remains a mystery that there is such concern over Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Iraq, countries that seem to express so many conservative values - widespread gun ownership, extreme religiosity, extreme rhetoric and the occasional school massacre for good measure.
The only photo of guns that I could see clearly - the 25 from a pickup - at least 13 were .22 rifles... Ruger 10/22s, and a number with tubular magazines. Not what you would choose for drug wars.
On this one I admit there most likely are guns bought here going to Mexico..would be interesting to see how many were bought by people that had family's still in Mexico...In reality ...Mexico's biggest problem is the crooks inside their own government...too many ties to the cartels with in their own politicans. But hey, its easier to blame the USA...why not everyone else does.
This is not a ploy - it is a direct action by civilised people to try to pull the vocal minority out of the stone age. Projectile weapons. like gasoline powered transportation are so nineteenth century. The propaganda arm of the secret government is still keeping the American people as uninformed as ever.
Like the bull in the bull ring, they are kept chasing the little red cloth while the sword in the other hand is poised for the fatal thrust.
It sounds like you want the same things your great-grandfather wanted. Sadly, your great-grandmother is also dead, so unless you like consorting with skeletons, wake up, look around, and move on.
Phasers on kill, Mr. Spock.
People need to understand the true meaning of the 2nd Amendment. No one understands it more than this brave Texas woman grilling Congress. Please take the time to watch!!

This is what NAFTA is for. we sell guns to mexico and they sell drugs here. free trade. Before 9-11 mexico's president Vincente Fox wanted the USA to open the border so that more mexicans could come here to work. now that mexico has a different president they are complaining about the Free Trade of guns. Keep your migrant workers out of our country. keep your cocaine and heroin and sh*t weed too. we can grow better stuff here. We need to put 12+ million guns on the streets of mexico before they can feel what their 23+ million Illegal Aliens do to our country. There are shootings on the streets of the USA and their people are doing it. How does it feel Mexico? By the way,...AK 47s are not made in the USA. We should send one gun to mexico for every anchor baby and Illegal alien that they have here. it is only fair.
Get to the root cause of the problem. Take the power (money) away from the cartels.
Legalize marijuana; grow it here, tax it here, distribute it like alchohol. Then watch the cartels shrivel up and die.
Prohibition has never worked, it only gives power to the black markets. The use of marijuana has been documented as far back as the dawn of man. The demand for it will never go away. Quit fighting a loosing battle that does nothing more than support the drug/alchohol industries in the USA and the cartels in Mexico.
Nobody is taking our gun rights away. There should be a ban on assault rifles. Assault rifles are for the military and poice, and have no right in the general public. If someone has to have an assault rifle to hunt, they are not good hunters, and have no right hunting.
Please define "Assault Rifle" for us.
Gun Grabber propaganda
Maybe they should take another look. While 90 percent of the guns traced to the U.S. actually originated in the United States, the percent traced to the U.S. is only about 17 percent of the total number of guns reaching Mexico Most of the guns are filtering in from Russia, China and other Latin American countries
Never mind the guns going to Mexico. What about the handguns that go from south to north. NY has strict hand gun laws but are undone buy those going to the south by 100 handguns then sell them up north. The sales of guns need to be kept track of so we can take care of this problem. No one is saying you can't buy guns. Only that you need keep track of them. No one has stopped you from buying a car, but it has to be registered. Its the first thing the cop ask you for.
This statement is SOOOOOOOOOOO misleading. This article and efforts are a front. LOL.. ATF... The ATF is responsible for shooting babies in the arms of their unarmed mothers, for rigging trials, hiding evidence, tampering with evidence, and a whole host of other crimes.
So mexico wants us to stop letting guns get ilegallty into their counrty and as I see it we want to stop Mexicans coming into our country illegally. It seems as if we have a "mexican standoff."
One good point about this guns problem is it is reducing the number of Mexicans that can cross the border and sell drugs in the US.
Mexico, help close the border then we may consider the gun issue!!
Assault Rifle:
-designed for combat, with selective fire (capable of shooting in both fully automatic and semi automatic modes). Assault rifles are the standard infantry weapons in most modern armies, having largely superseded or supplemented larger and more powerful battle rifles.
This has already been proved to be BS... Just a NYT hit article, I would lay money it was forced and financed by the anti-gun Bloomberg.
Sadly the assault rifle ban has been lost to the quest to ban all private gun ownership. I know I no longer support it because the left won't be satisfied with that alone. I agree no one but the military needs military weapons but since the left won't stop there one of the casualties is the assault weapon ban.
JTRIGGS,
There is a gun shop 15 min. from my house where i can go and buy an AK-47 if i want. They are sold everywhere in the U.S. Not that i have a problem with that. As an American, if i want to add a nice piece to my collection then that is my right to do so.
but it is very easy to modify that weapon to be fully automatic. That is where you may find a problem with these guns falling into the wrong hands.
I can tell you that i would feel sorry for anyone who would try and buy guns for the wrong reason at the shop I go to. All those guys are Marines in there. They dont mess around.
This whole article is total BULL SH!T. Look up "THE MYTH OF 90 PERCENT" printed by FOX NEWS then you will get the real story on how only 90 percent of the guns that "WERE" traced and not 90 percent of all guns, the number of all guns is more than 150,000......THIS ARTICLE SUCKS !
The Headline: "U.S. GUNS ARM MEXICAN DRUG CARTELS"
The Quotes: "It is unacceptable to have 90 percent of the guns that are
picked up in Mexico and used to shoot judges, police officers and mayors ...
come from the United States." - California Sen. Dianne Feinstein said at a
Senate hearing.
"90 percent of the weapons used to commit crimes in Mexico come from the
United States." - Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
"Assault rifles bought in the United States are favorites among cartel
gunmen, who find them effective for the urban warfare" - William McMahon,
deputy assistant director of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
The Truth:
-In 2007 & 2008 Mexican government recovered 29,000 guns from crime scenes.
-11,000 of those guns the Mexican government submitted to the ATF for
tracing.
-Close to 6,000 were successfully traced, and 5,114 were traced to the U.S.
-In other words 83% of the weapons recovered at crime scenes in Mexico could
not be traced to the U.S.
The Spin:
Roughly 90% of the "traceable" guns recovered in Mexico from the U.S.
The Question:
- Over the last 6 years it is estimated that almost 150,000 Mexican soldiers
have gone AWOL, and switched sides to the Mexican drug cartels. When they
do this it is common that they take there firearms with them.
- The majority of the weapons recovered are full-auto variants not for sale
in the U.S.
- Out of the 5,114 weapons traceable to the U.S. how many were guns sold in
MIL to MIL transactions?
Grail6,
Good post. I made a similar statement 3 weeks ago on newsvine. It's somewhat frustrating to observe the same propaganda being conveyed continually. We may have been naive enough to elect our representatives but we are definitely smart enough to know the difference between propaganda and hard core facts.
I guess anything passes for truth where gun advocacy is concerned. Even bad arithmetic and ignoring the facts.
29,000 seized, but 11-12,000 submitted for tracing. Since the reasons were not given, one cannot assume anything other than the subset is arepresentative sample. Of the 6,000 that could be traced, 5114 traced to the USA.
That's 5114/(11 or 12,000) = 42.6 to 46.5% of guns submitted for tracing came from USA.
Also 5114/6000=85.2% of all guns that could be traced came from the USA.
So, despite the hypothesizing about automatic vs semi-automatic, a large percentage of the guns used by Mexican drug cartels come from the USA.
salem1692
Interesting...
Go try to find an assault rifle for sale. They don't sell them at gun shows or gun shops. Anything that could be defined under the definition of assault rifle is already heavily restricted by the federal government, in short supply, and very expensive. This would be actual AK-47 and M-16 type "automatic" service rifles.
The misnomer "Assault Weapon" is a different contrivance altogether. It is a definition that makes semi-automatic "look-alike" rifles sound worse than they are. These semi-automatic rifles would be AKM (MAK-90) and AR-15, mini-14... not much different than ordinary semi-automatic hunting rifles, they just look scary.
Have fun
John
Nice word play Dr. Smith, but no. Since no margin of error was quoted in the percentages, one can assume that it is, in fact, NOT a representative sample, as that must include a margin of error, as it does in polling.
Additionally, the sample must be random. The mere fact that they were submitted for tracing by the person(s) in possession of the weapons, immediately taints the results as a true representative sample has to be initiated (and chosen at random) by the person doing the testing (and even that carries certain dangers if not done properly).
More likely, of the 29,000 guns seized, they discarded the ones that obviously did not come from the US (AK-47, fully automatic weapons for example), and submitted a chosen sample of guns that were more likely to have come from the US, most likely .22 caliber rifles, handguns with "Smith and Wesson" written on them, etc.
U.S. gun shops are getting the blame for supplying the cartels with weapons, but in reality many of these high-powered weapons come from the U.S. government and are given to the Mexican military to fight the cartels. There are 1,200 soldiers that go AWOL every month from the Mexican military only to join the drug cartels. They almost always take their guns with them. We need to quit supplying them with guns.
Nobody is trying to take your security blanket away from you. The guns ARE coming from the US.and the very same guns are used by the Mexican Drug Cartels. The same cartels are endangering the lives of American citizens and law enforcement are both sides of the border. There are certain types of assault rifles that should not be sold to the public. These loopholes for the sale of guns need to be Closed. One news program (dateline... or maybe 20/20) reported the ease of guns sold at guns shows. Some of these people bought and sold guns in the parking lot before even walking into the front door and purchases guns without Any ID or Background check. People Kill People! Wacho People with guns kill People!
OUR EMAILS, TELEPHONES, CELLULAR PHONES, NEWSPAPERS, RADIO AND TELEVISION NETWORK – ALL MONITORED – CENSORSHIP ON A MASSIVE SCALE AND AMERICA CONDEMNED THE COMMUNIST SOCIALIST REPUBLICS INCLUDING CHINA, WHOM AMERICA IS INDEBTED, FOR SUCH ACTIONS. WHILE THIS ADMINISTRATION CANNOT EVEN CLOSE THE MEXICAN BORDER FOR FEAR OF REPRISALS FROM THE MEXICAN GOVERNMENT WHO MAY VERY WELL HAVE A STAKE IN THE DRUGS AND GUN SMUGGLING TAKING PLACE ALONG THE BORDER AND THIS ADMINISTRATION HAS THE ORDASITY TO ENTERTAIN SOME FORM OF AMNESTY FOR THESE SELFSAME ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS. WHOSE THE JOKE ON?
I-SPY FROM THE WHITEHOUSE COHORT LEADING THE NEW WORLD ORDER BASED ON A PREVIOUS EUROCENTRIC MARXIST IDEOLOGY:
Muzzled by GE or more specifically, muzzled by the same administration THAT cut the story and muzzled news of Obama bowing to an Islamic king along with other questionable activities? While, the State of New York finally has some type of leadership seemingly in the form of Archbishop Timothy Dolan indicating his willingness to stand up to the likes of David Paterson who seems to be as blind spiritually as he is legally blind of eye. All under the watchful eyes of the NSA who it is said that the “legal and operational problems surrounding the N.S.A.’s surveillance activities have come under scrutiny from the Obama administration, Congressional intelligence committees and a secret national security court, said the intelligence officials, who spoke only on the condition of anonymity because N.S.A. activities are classified. Classified government briefings have been held in recent weeks in response to a brewing controversy that some officials worry could damage the credibility of legitimate intelligence-gathering efforts.”
Could this be yet another ploy by this administration to deceive the American people while diverting attention away from the reality of what is transpiring? Otherwise, why the muzzle on CNBC and possibly other media correspondents not so easily mislead by the Obama Administration? Why, deceive the people by claiming to be Christian and yielding in part to Islamic beliefs because in reality all three Islamic and Judeo-Christians denounce same sex marriages, abortions that is nothing more than child sacrifices, and a failure to provide state oversight where constitutional rights and privileges are violated on a daily basis in states such as, New York. Truly, the Devil has blinded American government and a great segment of its populace content on scurrying about in its own depraved indifference to its moral and ethical values surrendered to Satan and monitored by his forces.
HERE IS THE MUZZLE:
Page Six, Richard Johnson, Richardjohnson@nypost.com, With Paula Froelich,
Bill Hoffmann, Corynee Steindler, And Neel Shah
April 16, 2009 --
THE top suits and some of the on-air talent at CNBC were recently ordered to a top-secret meeting with General Electric CEO Jeffrey Immelt and NBC Universal President Jeff Zucker to discuss whether they've turned into the President Obama-bashing network, Page Six has learned.
"It was an intensive, three-hour dinner at 30 Rock which Zucker himself was behind," a source familiar with the powwow told us. "There was a long discussion about whether CNBC has become too conservative and is beating up on Obama too much. There's great concern that CNBC is now the anti-Obama network. The whole meeting was really kind of creepy."
One topic under the microscope, our insider said, was on-air CNBC editor Rick Santelli's rant two months ago about staging a "Chicago Tea Party" to protest the president's bailout programs -- an idea that spawned tax protest tea parties in other big cities, infuriating the White House. Oddly, Santelli was not at the meeting, while Jim Cramer was, noted our source, who added that no edict was ultimately handed down by the network chieftains.
CNBC flack Brian Steel confirmed the get-together, but insisted: "The dinner was to thank CNBC for a job well done in our in-depth reporting throughout the financial crisis. As far as our coverage is concerned, we are built for balance and we are unabashedly pro-investor."
Our source retorted: "That is complete bull[bleep] . . . they didn't invite a lot of people to [the meeting]. There were many staffers who were working 24/7 during the crisis who weren't asked to attend, even Santelli, who was a big star for the network during those weeks. Why not?"
In addition, the insider said: "News of the meeting is starting to leak out and people are contacting a number of the on-air people to ask if they've been muzzled by GE."
HERE IS THE PROPOSED FIGHTER STANDING AGAINST THE ENEMY:
On first day as archbishop, Dolan says he won't 'shy away' from gay marriage fight
BY Christina Boyle
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER
Gov. Paterson will unveil his gay marriage legislation Thursday and Archbishop Timothy Dolan is making it clear he will fight it.
Hours before his installation as head of the Archdiocese of New York Wednesday, Dolan said he would oppose Paterson's push to let gays and lesbians wed.
"You can bet I will be active and present and, I hope, articulate in this position," Dolan said in his first press conference.
"The topic you raise - other topics that are controversial, that the church has a message to give - yeah, you'll find that I don't shy away from those things and I wouldn't sidestep them."
New Yorkers should expect no less he noted.
"There's no escaping the fact that the pulpit of the archbishop of New York has a particular prominence whether I like it or not," he said. "And I don't know if I'm going to do anything different than in the past."
But "I made it pretty clear, we bishops aren't into politics, we're into principles," he added.
Paterson will relaunch the effort to legalize gay marriage Thursday with the reintroduction of a bill that failed in 2007.
He hopes to tap into the momentum of other states, such as Vermont and Iowa, which passed similar legislation recently.
Paterson declined to say how he'll counter his new opponent.
HERE IS THE QUESTION, WHOSE MONITORING THE MONITOR?
Could it be a ploy of the Administration that gave power to the NSA?
OR, IS THIS YET ANOTHER PLOY ON THE PART OF THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION TO GUISE GRANTING AMNESTY TO MILLIONS OF ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS WHILE THIS ADMINISTRATION CANNOT PROVIDE ADEQUATE SERVICES TO THE LEGAL POPULACE OF THIS NATION?
WHY THE subterfuge many of their brothers and sisters are members of the American Armed Forces?
It is obvious the the NRA is LYING about where guns are purchased for the drug cartels. Time and time again, it has been shown how easy it is to purchase high powered guns for shipment to Mexico.
They probably are not being drivin across, but taken over the border at other points.
Does anyone really think the gun manufacturers care about anything except selling their goods?
Greed and money are still the bottom line for them.
For those that are intimidated by those of us willing to protect not only OUR 2nd Amendment rights, and the 1st, as well as they extend to you.
I have been watching the effort for some weeks now as a result of conversation with a CCW Instructor. As I was applying for my renewal, he mentioned that Federal agents told him that the effort would start in Texas and other southwestern states, the story being to reduce the amount of weapons being smuggled into Mexico. That was before ANYTHING had been in the news about how it is our fault that Mexicans are killing Mexicans. Now I watch and see the intensity picking up every day. Watch the results of Obama's trip to Mexico and see what comes of it. Can you say conspiracy theory ?
And for you nice folks that voted for Obama that still smoke your pot. Uh, guess what ? YOU are DIRECTLY responsible for the war in Mexico. Quit smoking that crap, they will quit killing each other, and you MAY eventually grow a brain that can reason.
As for me, I own one legally registered machine gun. I also own two M1-A's that are semi-automatic with 20 round clips in .308 caliber. Trust me, they are way too heavy for the average small framed Mexican to lug around. And why do I "need" them ? Ever tried wild hog extermination with a single shot ? Oh, of course, that's right, you don't shoot or own a gun. That's what we do with them here in Texas. But, of course, you don't know about our wild hog problems here. It's all free range pig for free........
The average anti-gun nut figures that we all live like him. In the dense inner-city where the police are "supposed" to protect "me." Try living where response time can be as long as 45 minutes. Better yet, cite the law that demands law enforcement protect you. It ain't there.........
Gun control actually means pulling the trigger 8 times in succession and keeping a 230 gr .45 caliber bullet in the ten ring at fifteen yards.
For those of you that feel the need to decide what I should or shouldn't own, "bugger off."
"From my cold, dead hands." Oh yeah, and I will be attending an NRA banquet tonight. I MUST be a redneck........
What a crock of NRA lobbyist propaganda. The loopholes MUST be plugged. Not just to stop the gunrunning to Mexico and other countries, but to bring some sanity back to our ownership. The 2nd Amendment doesn't guarantee unregulated gun ownership or sales, just the opposite in fact. I demand my rights not to be a victim of 'legal zealots' who have offensive arsenals and won't/don't hesitate to use them. Its not the illegal guns that are scaring me, its the people who have bought guns legally without any oversight. They are ambushing and killing innocent and UNSUSPECTING victims, not the bad guys or each other. The NRA lobby of lies and half-truths have spread their misinformation lulling people into trusting the so-called legal owners. Its been 'legal' owners who are going on rampages.
If any of the zealots use their weapons in a reckless manner and place me or my family in danger by trying to be a comic super hero (without temperment or training) I will OWN them and everything they own. Many of us don't want to be caught in your crossfire or killed by your incompetence. And your attitude scares the bejesus out of law enforcement, contrary to the lies of the NRA.
nice going, population control !! they kill each other off, we don't have a immigration problem..in fact; the scenario thrives here..we all live in a kill zone, America is not immune..like it is said, take away all the weapons, then only outlaws will have them..welcome, to a very violent world..push and shove tactics are every where, no getting away from it..you show STRENGTH, then there is always some one else..who wants to be bigger/ better/ stronger..the rules of the jungle, ALWAYS BE CAUTIOUS !!..don't start trouble, don't make trouble, you're better off that way..otherwise competition/ challenge, may kick-in........
I've read the 2nd Amendment over and over again, and I still can't figure out how anyone can interpret it as saying everyone has the right to carry a gun...Where does it say that? Yea, if your "in a well formed milita".
Sir, the second amendment has been upheld by the Supreme Court, the highest court in the land. I'm quite certain, they have more resources to lean upon to prove this out than either you or I.
In cities and states(30+) where guns laws (concealed carry mainly) are relaxed for "law-abiding" citizens, crime stats actually show a significant decrease in serious crime, by in large.
So, what is your concern? I'm not certain why folks get concerned with decreases in crime as a direct result of more liberal gun laws. Isn't that a good thing? Too many like to focus on the few events where criminals go nuts with a gun and ignore the many, many more great stories whereby crime is prevented due to guns. Why is that?
If what they have in Arizona is a decrease, then I can only imagine what is what like before.
So why can't I get a small short range missile, after all, that is what the same government calls Arms, it does not say the right to bear a gun, it says "arms". For that matter why can't I have a nuclear weapon, that is what the SALT treaty was adressing, so that shows that they are recognozed internationaly as arms, so why can't I have one?
Thomas,
The second definition of militia in the Webster's Dictionary "the whole body of able-bodied male citizens declared by law as being subject to call to military service". The second amendment was written so that ordinary americans could help to defend the country.
robby - Because you would not pass the mental test. Most licensed carry citizens are pretty stable.
Thomas they must not teach reading and comprehension in the Kenyan's state of Illinois. It is very easy to understand the Second Amendment. Shall Not Be Infringed is very clear. Nice try though, have fun in the socialist republic of Illinois.
The militia is all able bodied men over 16 years of age who are not police or military.
At the time the CONSTITUTION was written a militia was comprised of any able bodied male between the ages of 16 and 45. It was written so citizens could protect themselves from a government that became tyrannical. That is the spirit of the 2nd Amendment. Nowhere does the CONSTITUTION say that the militia must be controlled by the government. As for Websters dictionary, I doubt the founding fathers consulted it as it didn't exist. And besides words held much different meanings in the eighteenth century than they do now.
As for the other weapons mentioned. I don't think many citizens had cannons in the 1700s but they could if they wanted.
To bad your ancestors didn't go back to England with the rest of the sheep.
I DO NOT AGREE WITH WHAT YOU SAY HOWEVER; I WILL DEFEND YOUR RIGHT TO SAY IT TO MY DYING BREATH. WOULD YOU DO THE SAME?
Thomas, The Irish had suffered under the English and their Landlords for centuries. Just as the Irish were about 40% of the Continental Army and fought like madmen, because they wanted to never be under the English heel again... They also made damn sure we wouldn't be serfs on the land we just conquered... They also knew that hundreds of years don't quench a governments thirst to control every facet of one's people...
The Irish, German and English here knew better than to EVER trust or entrust ANY government with their personal soveriegnity.
Besides, the 2nd Amendment only outlines A GOD GIVEN (or Divine for you atheists) RIGHT.
Thomas, dear boy. Please allow me to educate you on the Constitution. I'll admit, people are often confused by this, since history and english are so poorly taught in school now-a-days. So let me break it down for you. Oh, and BTW, the Supreme Court agrees with me.
"A well regulated militia,"
A "militia" by definition, both then and now, is all able bodied men capable of fighting in a war. It's a simple definition, and so includes, in this day and age, all males above the age of 8 that do not suffer from a physical malady that would prevent him from fighting, like say paralysis or missing limbs. So technically, you could say that no woman has a right to bear arms, and no handicapped person has a right to bear arms. Good luck with that one, my friend.
"being necessary to the protection of a free state"
Our Founding Fathers just fought a war against a standing militia that was oppressing them. They used their guns to repell this force and win our independence. Incidently, if it wasn't for the guns you don't seem to think we should be carrying, we wouldn't be having this discussion, or a lot of other ones, for that matter. Think about that. All our founding fathers agreed that the most important duty of a citizen was the overthrow of a tyrannical government (we're dangerously close to that again now, incidently). The protection of the free state refered to the freedoms of the people, both from foriegn invasion and our own government. That's also the reason that almost all of them favored a small, relatively week government of consent. "WE THE PEOPLE" ring a bell?
"the right of the People"
This is, by far, the simplest line in the entire Constitution. "The People" is just that, THE PEOPLE. Not the government, not the military, not the police, Joe Nobody and John Q Public. You and me, everyone. Don't believe me, check any other reference to "the people" in the Constitution. It's the same definition every time. It's also very deliberate.
"to keep and bear arms"
"Keep", to have in one's posession or area of control. "Bear" to hold or carry. "Arms", a weapon. Litterally this means to own and carry on one's person a weapon. Any weapon. So yes, technically you could own a tank and drive it around. And in fact, some people do. The reason for this is very simple. The militia had to provide their own military grade weapons to fight a war with. Yes, that's right, military grade weapons. This means that, among other things, the assault weapon ban, and ban on "machine guns" are unconstitutional. Period.
"shall not be infringed"
"shall not" is very specific legal language. It means that is it not possible for the government to do something. It's an absolute restriction. "Infringed", to be restricted, regulated or taken away. This one word makes every single "gun control" law on the books illegal. Period. The liberal government is afraid to touch this one, but it's comming. I'm sure there are people now preparing the case, in light of DC v. Heller, to do just that, end gun control once and for all. Also, this is a mis-nomer of a term. Gun control is being able to hit your target, my friend.
Here's the real solution for Mexico, ARM THEIR CITIZENS! Let them protect themselves. I guarantee you that drug dealers are not going to try and bully a town full of AK-47 carrying civilians. This is precicesly the kind of situation the Second Amendment was written for.
Here's another idea that MSNBC likes to glaze over. If we would just seal off the border, with a solid vehicle barrier, double layer electrofied fence and deploy our military to protect our own country instead of Iraq, we wouldn't have these problems. Even drug dealers know better than to pick a fight with the Marine Corp. Hoorah!!!!!
The part saying "to keep and bear arms." "To bear" means "to carry."
To break it down even more, I'm going to teach you to parse a sentence. The root of the sentence is "the right shall not be infringed." Whose right? It's the right "of the people." What right? "The right to keep and bear arms."
The dependent clause "A well regulated militia..." and so on is called an appositive and refers to the direct object of the sentence, specifically "the people."
Failed English classes, didn't ya?
You see, there's your problem, interpretation. It's laid out in black and white, no interpretation necessary. It is the right of the people to own an carry weapons, and the government has no right to restrict that in any way. Period. Pretty simple. No interpretation needed.
If the SCOTUS had ruled that it wasn't an individual right to keep and bear arms and it was a only a collective right, you would be telling us to get over it. GET OVER IT! My AR-15 sits quietly in the corner not hurting a soul. It's not packing a bag for Ol'Mexico. It is however willing to remain by my side and fight tyranny. Hmm that's what the founding fathers intent was all along.
also review the declaration of independence which the people have a right to defend themselves against an out of control government and for self defence. The 2nd amendment and the declaration of independence go hand in hand
it says the right of THE PEOPLE to keep and bear arms, the people, the same as the first ,fourth, and tenth amendments as in the individuals that are the citizens of this country
It says, " The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed". It also says that, " all laws and treaties persuant to this constitution are the supreme law of the land and all judges shall be bound thereby, anything in the constitution or laws of any state to the contrary, Notwithstanding". read it for yourself.
Thomas! Wake up man, get a grip! The term 'regulated = controlled'. Can you think of a better way to insure that the militia is well regulated (and NOT overstepping it's mandated authority) than for the right of 'the people' (each and every one of them), to keep and bear arms, SHALL NOT be enfringed???
Don't try to 'interpret' the Bill of Rights, Thomas. It's beyond you.
" The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed". "The People" refers to the individual (as you will understand when you look at how the term is used in other Articles of the Bill of Rights). Understand, too, that the Bill of Rights formally recognized PRE-EXISTING, rights that the Founding Fathers were acknowledging we had before the Constitution was written. The 2nd Amendment does not require a person to join a para-military organization to sustain these rights, it acknowledges that these rights were already ours and that we all have a piece of ownership in defending the nation and our rights.
remember the comma, they did NOT want anyone's right to own a gun away. AFTER THE COMMA it says: "the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed"
It doesn't say you have to be in ANY militia or any organization at all. It says that the right of the PEOPLE... shall not be infringed.
Read before you try to "interpret"
Ok SMARTVOTER, How smart is it to legalize Assault Rifles? I don't understand concealed weapon permits either. If you want to protect your home buy a shotgun and that's it. It don't understand gun nuts. They always come across crazy to me.
decyric, DROOL! SLOBBER! FROTH! GROWL! What's a matter? You don't like us gun owners? Assault rifles are only sold as semi-automatic. Allowing them the same rate of fire as an auto loader shotgun.
So we want to protect ourselves from the government? but don't they have like jets, tanks, "nucular" weapons and stuff?
Yes they do, but a well-armed populace, even without a sophisticated high-tech military, can resist occupation.
Just look at the insurgents in Iraq and Afghanistan. It's gonna cost trillions of dollars when all is said and done to defeat them. What do they have? small arms, home-made bombs, a few bigger machine guns, pick-up trucks.
Fortunately we live in a stable democracy now, but in the future, Americans, if they are willing to be vigilant and stand up for their Second Amendment rights, can protect themselves from tyranny if and when it occurs.
Folks in Iraq and Afghanistan have been in war for many years. What do we have here mostly? Couch potato folks, xbox 360 pros and internet rambos? Some of us wouldn't last long vs our well trained military.
The quote in this article, and repeated by some US officials and some Mexican officials is just not accurate.
The articles states "Federal agents say about 90 percent of the 12,000 pistols and rifles the Mexican authorities recovered from drug dealers last year and asked to be traced came from dealers in the United States" (Notice, no official name where the number listed can be corroborated.)
Actual, in depth reporting and true journalism has proven this quote to be an outright false statement. Only a small fraction of recovered guns in Mexico are actually linked to the US.
Reports state, most are from Central America, shipped in from overseas where they are obtained cheap.
I'm not surprised the NY Times doesn't fact check and even less surprised MSNBC would repeat the same inaccurate information.
This is just another weak attempt to stir emotion and push an agenda. That is not to say certain precautions should not remain in place, but additional measures are simply not needed.
Smart_voter,
Keep to one item, they did not say ALL guns in mexico, you are using stats for ALL guns to counter a stat against a particular group of guns.
That is like comparing all convicted gun murderers against all registered gun owners, two very different and distinct groups.
Robby,
The ATF has stated that the 90% number was false. Who do you believe, the ATF or a Mexican official?
I want grenades. I also want some RPG's. My gun range owner would probably get sick of replacing his target hanging boards though.
As much as people might hate the thought of it being mainstream. We should end this silly prohibition of at least Marijuana. I keep hearing the top DEA officials tell me its bad and evil but they never give me any evidence or facts aside from the violence caused by creating the underground market. Legalize and then inform people that it is much better for them if they consume it instead of smoking it. Set the age at 18.
I live in a town thats seething with bars and alcohol. I see reports of people in the paper getting their 7th or 8th DUI???!!! but pray for mercy if you get caught with a plant.
The bit of information that is missing about the traced weapons is that the Mexican government only requested a trace be done on about 17% of the total number of confiscated guns. They also just happened to request traces only be done on guns typically manufactured in the U.S. - So what you have is actually 90% of 17% not 90% of the total confiscated as they try to make the reader think.
Mexico is kind of like the father blaming the guys because his slutty daughter is pregnant instead of doing his job and making sure she stays out of trouble.
RED HEADED,,, well said,,, Marijuana YES... Alcohol NO...
The guy who killed the Angels pitcher and his friends the other nite was driving on a suspended license as a result of a PREVIOUS DUI...
the DEA wants his guys to have a job...if you legalize weed, then his little branch of the government gets smaller... especially when Pfizer or Johnson&Johnson start selling it...
Number one...90% is incorrect. This is another Obama newscast to try to get our guns taken away...try about 18 to 20% coming from America. And how about the dude that was smuggling...another immigrant? I wonder if he was illegal. If he was, the big three news agencies are not going to tell you that. A lot of the guns were traced to China, Russia and other countries. This whole article is a big lie.
I wont blame any government officials or party lines, but what an article with an agenda! You got it right here on MSNBC guys. It is the US gun policy fault for the drug warlord slayings in Mexico. WOW.
Here we go again, more anti gun BS. @!$%# Mexico. They have nothing to do with our constitution.
Once you have the cartels killing police office in your neighborhood you will get the idea of the problem this represents. We must get tougher on who buys these guns. It is obvious these guns are coming from the US, probably not 90% but more than half for sure. Let´s do something now, it is late but not to late.
Easy does it ES...... you're getting sucked in to the spin vortex.
Not even half....... only ~17% can be linked according to a recent investigative report, but that doesn't sound as dramatic as 90% now does it? The problem is far bigger from Central America where guns are shipped in cheap from elsewhere (not the US).
Carl,
You are correct in that Mexico has nothing to do with US constitution, and and the US has nothing to do with Mexico's. So that being said, when american get caught crossing the border with guns, please don't have your whole family on TV asking for uncle sam to come help. If mexico, wants to jail them forever, execute them, or just ship themto some slave farm somewhere, that is none of the US's business, it is Mexican law, you can't have it both ways.
ES-Wrong wrong and wrong again. The actual number is not even close to 50%. Once the ATF was cornered into telling the truth it came out that it was actually 17%. Mexico kindly picks and chooses which weapons they want to count for tracing and surprisingly forget to count the majority of them because they know they are not U.S. guns. This article clearly shows that the Hispanics are running these operations so the starting point is easy to see.
Cartels killing cops in the U.S.--You wont see this in large numbers, because the cartels know that if that happens they will be quickly eradicated by U.S. special forces. They understand that type of $hit doesn't fly in the U.S. and they don't want to start a war with us because it is a losing proposition.
If you want to do something then support operations that want to secure the border. Stop the flow of illegals and smugglers and then this problem can go away. Since forces have been shifted to the border, a difference has been made, but the MSM won't report that because it blows their slanted gun articles out of the water. Stop the border crossings and then Mexico can go and blame some other country for its problems.
Also maybe you could talk to Joe Bidens daughter and get her to stop snorting cocaine. This pathetic attempt at subverting my 2A rights in anyway will not be tolerated. Secure the border and leave us alone.
Robby: If Americans are sending guns to Mexico and get caught so be it, they are crimminals better let Mexico house and feed them than the tax payers.
Robby 78896----
funny thing, some lady was being chased by San Diego cops and she ran into Mexico... they shot her in the back , no questions asked... they had no idea why the US Cops were chasing her...
thats how they roll down there... if WE did that to one of their citizens the firestorm would never end...
and if you are stupid enough to risk going to a Mexican prison to make a few dollars than you are asking for it...
That's true. We complain about illegal immigrants, drug runners, and all that good stuff, so we (or at least I) don't complain about American lawbreakers adding to the misery in Mexico.
Fair's fair.
It isn't 17% even .............it is 90% of the 17% that CAN be traced so that makes it 15.3% of the total number of firearms seized..... most of the WEAPONS,as in machine guns ,grenades,RPG's etc. which have no serial numbers come from Central and South America, black market,China Russia and Mexico's own military and police ...this is just more BS to sway public sentiment and I hate to say it but I have a bad feeling that there will be another bunch of mass killings in the U.S ,. How's this for a conspiracy theory? The liberals ,desparate to push their socialist agenda ,find weak, troubled individuals and brainwash them into committing horrific crimes against innocent people telling them they will be forever immortalized by the liberal media and their killing of a few innocent people will save the lives of thousands when the socialists have complete control of the country.......if I could I'd right a book, but really it isn't the GUNS causing the problem,it's the DRUGS and until America fixes IT'S drug problem Mexico will have it's problem too
ES, How about they stop sending us Mexicans and we'll stop sending them guns?
I guess the NY Times just doesn't believe in ANY fact checking. The article states that ATF agents CAN'T look at a dealers record UNLESS a gun is used in a crime or only once a year. THAT'S TOTAL BS! They can look at any dealers records whenever they want to. I am a dealer and they come to see me WHENEVER they want, not just ONCE a year as the article states. And as for the part about dealers records being lost, that's insane. ATF will fry a dealers ass for not being able to produce the forms. As in jail time and fines. Where do they come up with this crap? I guess they just make it up...
Mr. President,
I believe we should investigate this "someguyintexas". He sounds like a right wing radical.
There is no right wing radical to it, someguyintexas is absolutely right.
damn right my local dealer misplaced 1 form from 5 years ago and almost got the ax luckly it was just in the wrong file. i say seal the f ing border like it should and no drug in no few gun out it as simple as that any nation that can't do that is severley f ed up and yes the US is because of or corrupt gov't pandering to illegals.
I figured the article's facts were mostly BS when I read about the guy plopping down cash and walking out with a gun. The two gun shops in my hometown wouldn't sell their best friend a firearm without the 2-week waiting period, full FBI background check, etc.
Guns in gun shops don't just "disappear" like that, or the ATF shows up and the gun shop ceases to exist.
To add to what SOMEGUYINTEXAS wrote, if a dealer goes out of business they are required by law to turn all of their transaction records over to the BATFE ,so if anyrecords are lost ,it is by the BATFE
From the new pic there are a few sbr's in there and the only way for those to change hands is through nfa paper work and all they have to do is see whos name is engraved on the lower,i'd bet they are military rifles.
A mechanic totally ruined my Rolls Royce. He used a 7/8" ratchet wrench.
I'm starting a petition against 7/8" ratchet wrenchs.
Anyone want to sign?
God dam idiots.
12-point sockets have far more points than any normal mechanic needs, too. You can spin a 6-point socket to match the points on the nut or bolt, right? 12-point sockets, particularly 7/8", are assault sockets and there is no need for anyone to have them.
Not even ASE certified mechanics.
I'll sign, Mac.
Ah, but a 12 point rachet guarentees less slip, is more apt to handle an array of nuts and get the job done quicker.
Every mechanic should have the right to own a set if they wish.
Oh, wait? They do have that right. Guaranteed by the Original Mechanic creed.
Don't like the tool chest? Get out of the garage.
Of course, you missed the entire message, So I will spell it out for you.
IT"S NOT THE WEAPON THAT HAS INTENT OF HURTING YOU. IT"S THE PERSON.
Yours Truly,
PistOff08
I think you missed my point. That was called sarcasm.
If you'll read my earlier posts, I've been talking along the same lines.
Blinded by your own point of view or something?
PistOff08
Remember Sparky, YOUR the one who responded to MY post.
If you agree with me, say so. But don't play riddles.
All forgiven
"In the last six months, federal agents have also begun stopping more cars they have reason to believe are carrying guns before they cross into Mexico, seizing about 1,000 weapons. "
Well golly gee, there's a thought. Who would have thought controlling our border could control the flow of guns going south. After all, if it's the "flow" that's a problem, there's a simple solution we don't seem to want to face - SECURE THE BORDER.
The LibTard MSM and New York Times need to just have servers slammed with e-mails demanding that the border be controlled instead of their pathetic attempt at subverting my 2A rights. Mexico can get bent! This problem is entirely their doing with encouraging illegal immigration and corrupt government that is paid off by the drug cartels.
Why are US Feds stopping car going IN TO Mexico? ain't that the other guys job?
WAIT!!!! I got it!! Americans are trying to illegally migrate to Mexico!!!
RIGHT! right?
Amen, brotherman!!!!!!! Time to build that fence and bring the military home to protect our own country.
I find it hard to understand why anyone would like to buy an assault weapon. But this is only my point of view, I have read planty of opinions about it who favor the sell of these weapons, none of them seem logical for me. But it is the actual law, probably it isn´t enforce correctly, so instead of banning them, let´s try to trace them correctlly and sell them to the correct people, which obviously hasn´t been the case. I still believe the cartels could bring this violence to America, even against the authorities. So let´s unite in these matter and do something to keep these weapons from the wrong hands. Contrary to some comentaries, it is possible to get these weapons in America without much trouble.
I think Mexico should build a fence to keep the US from slipping illegal weapons into their country.
Then the head of their parliment can call all the "guns" True Patriots and the President and Mexican law officials unpatriotic.
Amensty for all automatic weapons in Mexico!
That would fix this problem.
It's not the type of firearms that is the problem here. It is the random background checks and way the information is maintained from state to state. If these FBI background checks are worth anything, shouldn't a big flare go up at the FBI everytime a person buys 10 AK's from 10 different stores in a week? I like my AR. It's a fine piece of American craftsmanship built by Bushmaster. Actually all of my guns are made right here. No crappy commie guns in my house.
dpms and stag arms i guess were gun nuts huh.
Benelli, Ruger , Barett bolt action, Colt, and one Glock...
yes dear Government,,, you can't trust us Democrats to roll over either...
gun nuts and liberty nuts too...
under the new Assault Weapons bill your Mini 14,and all of your semi auto handguns would be banned, anything that takes a detatchable magazine and maybe even firearms that have tubular magazines if they hold more than 5 rounds, that would cover Win.94,Marlin 336,all tube fed .22lr, shotguns like mossberg 500 persuader etc, but wait you can still hunt with a single shot right?
Depends on what's being hunted....a deer will run rampant when shot or not shot, but the second shot rarely has a chance. However, two-legged animals run much slower, and the second shot, or even the third, may still be able to find it's target.
IF the US would enforce it's laws, then we would be catching all the drug smuggling, so the cash would not be able to find it's way to the American drug dealer. IF Mexico would do the same, then they would be catching all the guns and money being smuggled into their country.
Of course, IF a toad frog had wings, he wouldn't jump arouind bumpin' his ass on the ground.
I love my bushmaster AR and my Romanian AK, there both fine weapons, dont be a weapon racist. And dont even get me started on my praise for Glocks. I have never seen a person who gave a damn what brand a gun was when looking into the barrel.
My Noveske, RRA and POF AR-15's just rock. Man all these weapons and ammo and not one of them has ever been to the border or just went crazy and started shooting on its own. It blows my mind how a law abiding citizen can own such awesome firepower and still there is no blood flowing in the streets like the Brady Bunch tells me there is.
LMAO!!!
pretty sad day when a corrupt mexican government is able to dictate policy in the united states.
corrupt since day one... the people of Mexico never had a chance... until they have a Revolucion' and adopt our Bill of Rights & Constitution they never will... also adding one more amendment...No Federal Reserve to print their money EVER...!!! Then they will be light years ahead of us...
I could only wish the best for our Mexican neighbors, they have plenty of gas profits, they just need to take them!!!
The statement that 90 percent of the guns recovered are traced to the US is not factual. I’m really disappointed to see that MSNBC does not verify their statistics! All the does is add credibility to the gun lobby when the truth comes out. It is currently only at 14.5 percent. The majority are coming in from Central America and over seas. You can buy AK’s in the Third world for $10-15(Full Auto) vs. the going rate in the US is currently $1000.00+(Semi Auto) The cartel may be many things but they are better at business than our bankers are. They are buying the majority outside of the US and smuggling them into Mexico, that’s what they do for a living!!! People seem to be missing the fact that everything the Cartel does is Illegal, drugs, smuggling, killing, extortion, etc… If they are willing to do this do you think any kind of gun law is going to change that! If you think that more laws here will solve Mexico’s problem you need to get out more. Maybe mom and dad wasted that money they spent on your college education and should have made you do a hitch in the service to get your school money. Then maybe you’d have some common sense.
Absolutely!!! It's great how the left wing mainscream media glazes over the facts. Even the Mexican government admits almost all it's weapons come from anywhere BUT the US.
The MEXICAN ATTORNEY GENERAL admitted that 83% of the guns trafficked into his S-hole country were from OUTSIDE the US. Notice, they NEVER talk about SERIAL NUMBERS, or how the BATFE MANDATES a log that tracks ALL weapons into AND out of dealers stores. What good is a SEMI AUTO against FULL AUTO and grenades/RPGs? This is just the second coming of the same old Clinton-based anti-gun agenda that takes away the REAL PATRIOTS' RIGHT to defense against TYRANNY and Socialist-sponored SLAVERY! EVERY civilian disarmament in history preceded the tyrannical slaughter of that nation's people, and their rights. If you all have not figured out that Obama is Hitler Part 2, you need a BIG cup of coffee, and a HUGE slap of REALITY. He said he was for *smaller gov't*, yet has attempted the single LARGEST goverernmental power grab in recorded history. He SWORE *transparency and accountability in gov't*, yet steadfastly REFUSES to provide a legal BIRTH CERTIFICATE showing his legal eligibility to be POTUS. Time to wake up people. These jerks are after these weapons for FAR WORSE intentions than "keeping Mexico safe..." Honestly...who here gives a DAMN about MEXICO while OUR country is sinking so fast????
..." Honestly...who here gives a DAMN about MEXICO while OUR country is sinking so fast????
Gotta agree there. Screw Mexico. Two bit corrupt country that $hits on their people daily.
You short-sighted pycho paranoid numnut! Go take you pill, and stop listening to Rush, Hannity, and talking about Hitler! YOu Idiot! I'm embarrassed to have someone like you as a fellow
American!! The drugs and the Mexican Cartel kill Americans as well! It Does Affect our Country!! The Mexican Cartel sells drug in the US, and US citizens Die.
And before I forget; Let's See Your Birth Cetificate A-H#le !! Post Right Here for us All to See.
Actually Teri we (America) are unfortunate to have such a liberal mangina such as yourself. How can you tell a liberal on an internet forum; oh that's right they start with the racist, stereo typing comments in their first post.
Lets see, I dont listen to Rush Limbaugh. I do however love watching Lou Dobbs, Glenn Beck, Shawn Hannity and Bill O'reily. There is a reason Fox News has the top ten news programs in this country.
As for Americans dying from Mexican drugs, oh well. Honestly why should I care? They have an addiction and that is their problem. If they can't control their behavior then they will pay the ultimate sacrifice. There is not one thing you can do to change that. It is called personal responsibility!!! The liberal wingnuts in this country need to learn about personal responsibility.
Talking about Hitler? Yes actually it is an interesting subject. I have even visited the national holocaust museum in D.C. My family came from Germany to America long ago because they did not want to fight for Germany during WW1. My two Grandfathers also fought against Hitler in WW2. Wow I have just blown your pathetic post to pieces!
"Short-sighted pycho numnut" LMAO now that one is funny. I earn north of 200k a year doing a job that less than 1% of people worldwide have the necessary skills to do. I can tell from your posts that you suffer from internet courage and would never be able to match me in wits or skills at anything.
Teri-295467
If you can't follow the COH get off the Vine.
I do cowboy shooting and in the past use to hunt.. I did not use a fully automatic weapon to hunt elk with. Geesh they do deserve a better chance than that.. Anyhow, I have no problem at all with gun registration. I lived in AZ for years, and you did register to buy a gun at a store. Here in MO you register to buy at a gun show... Most hand gun owners really will not sell without a gun store involved. They do need to do a better jobs of tracking the sale of guns if they really dont in Az, TX and etc. BUTTTTTTT with that said. Just like with illegals, we need to ENFORCE our existing laws first!! maybe make then stronger with more TEETH in them. Then seal up the borders.. and tell mexico to spend some money on her citizens instead of expecting the US to do it all. They need jobs down there so they don't move here.. let their country help them do that. I have no use for fully automatic weapons, however, if you want one you should have to be licensed and you an shoot this at a range.. but you can not sell it to anyone else.. it goes to a gun dealer to be sold within the USA to someone carrying the license to have that gun. But enforcement is the key here, and laws with TEETH in them.. a license does nto keep any one honest in a marriage, nor does it stop people from having accidents nor does it really make them have insurance. We need laws that really punish people. And jobs to make life affordable so they can afford insuarances.
Sharon if you are a gun owner then your confusion about our gun laws does not make you look very good.
Any fully automatic weapon (class 3) in the U.S. is already requred to be registered with the ATF under the NFA. None of these weapons can be used for hunting in full-auto mode in any state that I know of. Also if anyone wants to sell a class 3 firearm, it requires all kinds of paperwork and a taxstamp of 200 when registering the weapon which is required with the ATF. You seem to be very confused on the process we already have in place. Also any full auto gun traced in Mexico is not coming from the U.S. Do you have any idea how much a fully automatic class 3 weapon costs? You might be able to find one for 10-15 thousand dollars if you are lucky. No cartel is going to spend that kind of money when they can smuggle them in from South America for a few hundered dollars.
You are right about the border enforcement. It is really the only thing we can do and it has been ignored for 20 years. It is pathetic that the LibTards want to look the other way about illegal immigration and then have the balls to complain about a gun problem that Mexico created. Pathetic!!!
title 2 firearms 4 forms background check and 200.00 tax stamp but that is federal state laws are to be checked for compliance.
I agree that everyone should be able to own automatic weapons. It's the only way to protect yourself from the crook with and automatic weapon. However, the Constitution does not give the government, or anyone else, the right to stop us from owning them, or requiring a license of any kind. It' time we got back to "support and defend the Constitution of the United States.".
Almost all of the stuff that you question about are laws....are already laws...which makes me question wether you are really a gun owner....or a spy???
(I wanted to put in something funny here, but, honestly it's just way too early in the morning for all that....need....more....coffee.) sigh.
G
The US has been fighting illegal immigration for as long as I can remember! Well, I remember Reagan was trying to find a solution 25+ years ago. And during this economic downturn I noticed an influx of gun crimes. People are flipping out!
The cartel is an organization that makes is living through smuggling, anyone else see the futility in trying to stop a smuggling organization from obtaining what it wants? As long as guns are made ANYWHERE the cartel will be able to obtain them.
The ability of the cartel to buy guns is the symptom, the disease is the demand for drugs that finances cartel activities. In that case, the real problem is not the gun dealers but the people who buy drugs. How many assault rifles could be bought based on the money one Hollywood star spends on cocaine/marijuana/etc?
LEGALIZE DRUGS, control them as you do alcohol... DUI's etc...
we gain tax dollars, gain our Liberty's back and take away money from drug dealers, cartels, etc.
if we sell them here, no need to smuggle when you can get it for 1/2 cost at a pharmacy...
Again, sadly more 'anti-gun rhetoric' from the NYT. Having had an FFL license in the past, I can tell you that the ATF is very much aware of the numbers and types of guns being sold by licensed dealers around the country. There are also strictly regulated procedures for multiple gun sales that every dealer is required to comply with...so 'no' if the Feds are doing their jobs, these 'numerous sales' would be noted!!! And what makes anyone think that the same government that can't keep drugs and illegal aliens from coming into the US will keep them from entering our country and stealing/ illegally purchasing weapons with the help of all their friends and relatives legally and illegally here? The problem is not with our right to purchase and bear arms to protect ourselves from these very same individuals (the same guns that protect all our politicians and wealthy citizens!!), but our politicians that have deliberately ignored the illegal alien problem all along!
From what I've read 90% of the weapons turned over by mexican govt traced to US. They turn over only 32% of the guns they find. Funny that once mexico has a problem they want to enforce the border. But be damned if they want to close the border to any of the problems coming from Mexico.
Anyway. for happynazi you know ya gotta post on this one.
Blonde hair blue eyes hmmm. let me say it for ya.
Destroy the NRA. Eliminate all Republicans(the new jews). They all must be bpart of the final solution. Tax them into kingdom come. Search all of GOP's houses. Eliminate. Eliminate. Eliminate. Search seize. Eliminate. Read your own hate filed post to see who is the real facist.
What does the NRA have to do with gun smuggling? Um..........nothing. Talk about a hate filled post.......calling the kettle black, don't you think?
Oh don't you know? There are 100's of gun factories south of Mexico. They just chose not to patronize them.
Clowns.
Pepster
The last part of the post was little bits of posts from another poster on related stories. Pointing out her blind hatred for others unlike her. The NRA has nothing to do with smuggling I agree. But posting on pure emotion, no thinking is fun. And I am sorry. I love those who want to eliminate me. It is all my fault, I hope I'm exterminated soon to save CO2 emissions.
I see...........No problem.
If the Mexican Government is so sure that the guns are coming from the U.S. then why don't they stop all suspicous cars and search them? This is typical anti-gun rhetoric. If the U.S. wasn't so in bed with NAFTA and CAFTA we could tell MEXICO to clean up their "OWN" country. Unfortunately Clinton and BUSH swallowed that anti-AMERICAN tripe and made it policy, now our jobs are all going to south of the border countries so the rich can be richer. It is time for the American people to stop letting the people in Washington run on autopilot and be "INVOLVED"in our countries direction. Get your representatives e-mail address and phone numbers and tell them what "WE" want "THEM" to do,not just the rich big businesses!
Man, this one car gave me a really snide look, Ya know?
So I pulled that car in to an interrogation room, Ya know? And I really drilled it.
Turns out it was a 68 skylarck only pretending to be a 69 Corvette.
But it won't do it again!!! And I'll be on the watch for any other suspicious cars in the future.
Before Mexico start's dictating to the United States they should get their Government in order and we should tell them that if this cartel pours over into this country we will take them out in Mexico not here. So Mexico watch out if the United States does not invade your border in order to secure ours.
Now your talking.
Hell yea!
Doesn't have to be the "armed forces" either.......just forces that are armed.
Napalm works.
This story is only partially true. Approx 25% of all firearms confiscated in Mexico are traceable. Of the traceable firearms,90% come from U.S.. That is a LOT less than the 90% this article claims! Tell the truth or dont tell us anything! A half truth is the same as a lie.
tomorrow obama and napolitano will visit my states border with mexico. today they caught a mexican with a anti aircraft gun, you can bet your ass that wasnt purchased in the US
Turns out that "anti-aircraft" gun was a lie too. The gun they showed in the photos was a WWII era M1919, that's a .30 cal machine gun, it's an anti-personel weapon, about as effective against aircraft as an AK-47 would be. It was even on a standard tripod mount that can't exceed more than about 30 degrees elevation, how the hell is that going to shoot down a plane?
Leadslinger,
The mexican was carrying a modified flare gun. The news media called it an anti-aircraft gun because he mounted a pipe lite on the barrel.
The article contains a number of inaccuracies. On page 1, it says that in AZ among other states people can buy a number of guns from a dealer without the dealer reporting this to the government. All gun sales by dealers are reported to the government in the form of background checks and then records of the sale are kept by the dealer as required by law. He doesn't send an aggregate report on people buying x number of guns but then that is not required by law, would be impractible, and wouldn't really do much anyway. Second, the article says that 12,000 guns are seized by Mexican authorities every year from drug dealers and that most (other stories says 90%) of those traced come from the US. What this article doesn't report (although it does sort of hints at it) is that the Mexican police only ask US authorities to trace weapons they already believe came from the US to begin with. They ask for traces on about 17% of the 12,000 they seize and of those about 90% come from the US. Furthermore, many articles on this subject, although admittedly no this one, would have you believe that all sorts of automatic wepaons are flodding into Mexico from the US. You cannot buy an automatic wepaon in the US without a federal background check, fingerprinting, photo ID, and a $200 fee paid to the feds to conduct the background check and transfer the weapon. Very few gunstores in the US are Class 3 gunstores, meaning that they can sell automatic weapons, so where are all these automatic weapons coming from? The fact is that they aren't coming from the US. If the cartels are getting US made automatic weapons they can only come from a.) corrupt members of the Mexican police or military who are selling them; b.) corrupt members of the US police and military who are selling them; c.) from US factories that make them and are then skimming from their tightly controlled inventory to sell them to the cartels; d.) some middlemen in the distribution system. Of these, the most likely source is obviously a.).
x-1027553 You are so right, the liberals only use information that fits their agenda. You will never see information like you give in the NY Times or MSNBC, they are part of Obamas press corps. We will hear excuses, and blame on Bush, and spin for the next 4 years. Gad, 3 month in office and Obama is already the WORST president ever. No more complaints about Bush after what Obama has already done to this country.
X please e-mail your post to the NYT and MSNBC so they can learn what the facts are. Jesus our only hope in this country is Fox News.
That's your Problem, you get your news from Fox. What a joke. lol.
Teri and you get yours from the Liberal MSM slanted son of satan spawn MSNBC, CNN and others. What a sheep that you can't see how slanted they are.
We have become a nation of people that expect the government to solve our problems, when in fact the Government is our problem. The second amendment allows citizens to protect themselves from the politicians of a corrupt Government. Those same politicians want to take away our guns. Vote against all incumbents in the next election!
Correction vote against all incumbents that don't support our 2A rights. I really wish California would wake the F$%$ up and get rid of Feinstein, Pelosi, Waxman and Boxer. I mean honestly how retarded do you have to be to continuously vote these morons into office. Pelosi says it is not right to enforce our immigration rules!! Are you kidding me. She has a 26% approval rating, the worst in our entire history for a House Speaker. How can you re-elect her California?
Well, since California's state flower is the poppy, and poppy seeds are used to produce opiates...
...you do the math.
And you thought "flower power" was just a catch phrase, huh?
I did last election
JC-957412- And the U.S is alot better?? The U.S is full of corrupt politicians too, how do you think the drugs get over here so easily. Get off your high horse, the U.S screws its citizens over too...you idiot.
chapo u dont like it here than go back
Hey there el wappo guzzieman head on back to MEHEKO anytime you want. I never said our politicians were not corrupt. Our problem lies squarely with two issues, the MSM and the LibTard politicians. If you get rid of the LibTards and require the MSM to actually report the news instead of trying to change public policy our problems are taken care of. Notice I said you need to get Joe Bidens daughter to stop snorting cocaine in my earlier post. See a LibTard politician that has a daughter that does drugs. That is what we call a twofer in America.
The problem does not lie with our 2A rights and never has. The problem lies solely with Mexico and its corruption. The only option we have is to secure our borders and let Mexico self-destruct.
el we know this thats why we have the second ammendment. and mexico is a third world country. we signed nafta sent all our textiles south but you guys could do it cheap enough so it went to china thats were the jobs are.build boats and go there that were the work is.
obama and napolitano are visiting the border tomorrow. today they caught a mexican with a anti aircraft machine gun, you can bet your ass it wasnt purchased in the US
The NYT is headed down the crapper because most people do not believe what they publish anymore. This article is yet another example of how you can BS your way right out of business because there are so many alternative sources of information that can be easily checked.
Notice that the premise of this article is that it is OUR responsibility to keep guns out of Mexico. What the hell is the matter with the Mexicans? We provide the largest source of income for them next to their oil, we fund their Welfare system because they don't have one and we have absorbed millions of their citizens who have forced their way here illegally. Now we have to police their borders as well as our own? Horse Pucky!
Human Beings in Mexico are no dumber than Human Beings here. Their thirst for our firearms is no different than our thirst for their drugs. If the Mexicans want to change their situation they have the power to do so without our interference and they should do so or shut up. Any attempts to take steps in this country to stem the flow of firearms to Mexico will only hurt Americans.
Let the Mexicans clean up their own act!
One correction. We provide MORE money to them than their oil, which is about 40% of thier income. This was actually verified by the Mexican National Bank. Basically, if we actually enforced our laws and rounded up all the illegals and sent them packing, Mexico would collapse in an hour.
What is wrong with these reporters and government leaders? They talk about the problems of the 2nd Amendment but don't care about the open boarder that allows guns to illegally go South!!!!
Close the boarder and search 100% of North and South traffic!!! Problem solved. Sorry illegals...... Sorry drug dealers...... Sorry government leaders wanting to take away the rights of American Citizens.....
