All the "Proffessionals" say let your kids go outside and play, join clubs, sport's ect.... don't make them afraid to out in the world well this, justifies my daughters fear of letting her 9 yr old son go to his friends house's to play and would rather have them play at her's and is afraid to let him walk to the corner for the school bus. There are sick, very sick people in this world and are kid's are not safe. School teachers, "Sunday" school teachers, priests and the guy or in this case the gal next door.
Increasing numbers of crazy's in this world. Are "They" putting somethng in the water??
They're also spraying something in the air. You can see it everyday, being sprayed by unmarked tankers (probably US Air Force). The trails left by these craft are not the thin contrails (condensation trails), very high in the atmosphere, that disappear quickly but, instead, are very thick, very low in the atmosphere, and hang around in the sky for a long time and are called chemtrails (chemical trails) and are typically laid out in geometric patterns like a checkerboard.
When any one of several agencies or departments is queried about this activity in the sky, nobody knows anything. We must be hallucinating!
I'm not saying that this is the reason behind all the violent activity lately, just laying it out there for your information.
don't ever let your children outside. Keep them inside under lock and key. Then we can raise a whole generation of nutjobs like the one who did this crime.
The only reason there seems to be more incidents like this one is because of the never-ending national news coverage which is shoved down our throats everyday. You cannot live your life in fear.
It would be reprehensbale to disallow a child a chance to learn by playing outdoors because of what some demented person did in California, Florida, anywhere.
This woman is innocent until proven guilty! San Joaquin is a mostly disgusting county littered with crime and criminals, and I know this! I have friends that live there!! And I've stayed there as well! I wouldn't be surprised one bit if that suitcase WAS stolen from outside her house....and of course it looks like she might be connected because of that! I am very very sorry for the families loss, as I have a small child too, and I would want justice as soon as possible, but, this needs to be investigated further, and not blamed on someone quickly just for quick satisfaction. There needs to be goood hard proof. I hope it gets resolved with good hard proof soon, so the family can have peace, and comfort. I'm so sorry to hear that this happened, it's never fair, and of course it's sick and wrong in every way. I'm thankful the beautiful little girl is safe with God now, and not in the hands of some weirdo.
This whole thing breaks my heart for everyone involved.....=(
Who else has noticed the subtle inuendo here. Every report describes the suspect as a "28 year old Sunday School teacher". I'm certain this is not a coincidence. In the interest of fairness it's not just MSNBC. Say it enough and before long every mindless sheep in the American flock will equate Sunday School teachers with homicidal maniacs.
In response to Nukeman's comment, "Every report describes the suspect as a "28 year old Sunday School teacher". I'm certain this is not a coincidence."
Any murder is terrible...and the murder of a young, innocent child even more tragic and horrific...due to the fact that we adults have and feel the responsibility of protecting these most vulnerable little ones of society, and thus feel more outrage that someone would betray that trust of a child. When the added fact that the responsible, or "allegedly responsible" adult is also a Sunday school teacher (or other religious/spiritual leader for that matter), it is all the more horrific, as that adult has willingly accepted a position of spiritual leadership in the community...a position in which parents are encouraged to entrust their children to that person's care, protection and "spiritual instruction". Thus, the betrayal is even more horrific, if that is possible. It is not only a pertinent fact of this case, but also a warning for all parents to be aware that no one...not even those in positions of religious leadership, should be above question when entrusting the care of a child to another. Furthermore, why are you defensive about the media printing of a true fact concerning this alledged perpetrator of this unspeakable crime? The truth is, we should all be aware by now...child abusers, molesters, and murderers come from all walks of life, and the media are simply reporting the truth. It is not unusual to read that a defendent in a child abuse case is a "coach" or a "boyscout leader" or a "teacher"...what is so different about reporting that this defendant is a sunday school teacher? The building doesn't make the Christian...rather the heart reveals the Christian...this woman was unfortunately only a deceptive fraud, and this poor, beautiful, innocent child had her life taken away, due to that cruel, selfish sociopath's deception. We can only take comfort that little Sandra is now in heaven with Jesus and surrounded by God's love.
Am I the only one that smells a hint of cover up? Perhaps I am just naive in hoping she didnt do it. It is not uncommon for the girlfriend or maybe granddaughter to try and cover for a loved ones dirty deeds. Either way what a horrible tragedy.
So what, you think they should avoid mentioning the fact that she was a Sunday school teacher out of respect for other Christians? I bet if she were an atheist that's all the good folks at Sunday school would be talking about.
Face it, religious people commit the majority of crimes in this country because THEY ARE THE MAJORITY.
the religious commit more crimes because those that are drawn to religion need it. healthy people dont go to the emergency room. the sicker you are the more you need the church. i work in a prison an can tell you all inmates are deeply religious.
You people obviously truly dont know anything about religion. You can start a religion just by saying you worship your computer. Being "religious" doesnt say anything about being moral. MOST of the people I know who do go to church are much nicer, better friends and better neighbors that those who don't. IF people are truly moral they understand that religion isnt the way that belief in God and having a true relationship with him is. With that said, however, there are many people who do not have that because our society has brain washed people to act in certain ways and if you dont go to the church, or believe a certain way then you are damned and that simply is not true.
and to you jeff i used to work in a prison too, and they arent religious they are doing anything they can to try and get out of prison and even the devil can quote scripture for his own purposes.
Did no one else notice Tor's comments of #1.1?! It's the Air Force. They're in league with the aliens or the illuminati (I wish Tor had been more specific). It's only a matter of time before we all start killing little kids. Then America itself will fall.
I believe Wallgreens currently has their tin foil on sale. As yours is apparently worn out and no longer protecting you, you should buy two rolls at the sale price...
I feel bad about my Sharon Walker post. I went back and read some of her other posts and she's clearly troubled. I don't know if its a handicap or mental illness. Either way, it wasn't fair for me to write what I did, even if it is a risk she runs putting her comments out there in an anonymous community who can't immediately identify things like that.
Honestly, I thought Tor's comments were really refreshing. You know, put a new spin on things. What can anyone really say in a thread like this? "Our thoughts are with the families. Please don't send Ms. Huckaby's parents death threats." That stuff is kind of unsaid, a product of good upbringing. It takes a true visionary to comandeer the conversation and redirect it into something as epic as Air Force mind control.
I'm starting to recognize Newsvine personalities. Regulars with entrenched habits. I guess I'm starting to emerge as a person who writes really LONG posts and really, sarcastic, heartless ones. I'm not sure that makes me proud...
I wouldn't go there. In today's free market capitalist society, the last thing we need to do is give businesses the idea of incorporating product placementm sales pitches in murder cases. (Martha Stewart pillowcases for suffocation murders, for instance).
"We can only take comfort that little Sandra is now in heaven with Jesus and surrounded by God's love."
B.S.!!! Where were God and Jesus [side bar: are they one god or two gods... what about the Virgin Mary? Is she a god too? And the saints? Hold on. I thought Christianity was monotheistic. Now I'm confused.] Back to my point.... Where were God and Jesus when the poor innocent kid was in THEIR house with one of THEIR earthly representatives? Why didn't God and Jesus do a god-damned thing to save the kid? Huh? I'll tell you why: because they're just made up figments of your flippin' imagination, that's why. Wake up, people!!!!! Little Sandra's "in heaven with Jesus surrounded by God's love" my a$$. She's lying dead in a meat locker at the county coroner's office because of some psycho. My guess is that when the truth comes out, we'll learn that the Sunday school teacher went off her rocker and killed the kid because her preacher grandfather shoved religion down her throat and kept telling her she was going to hell because she was a good-for-nothing sinner. Religion is the greatest force of evil on the planet. When people start worrying about this life, rather than an imaginary afterlife, then maybe we'll have peace on earth.
Most kids are molested by family members or family friends - almost 90% of abuse cases that are reported.
Remember that these cases make the news because they are out of the norm. I have known hundreds if not thousands of kids over my lifetime and I have never one who was kidnapped or murdered.
As far as kids not being safe walking - I think we should all go outside on the sidewalk or on our porches and watch the kids are they walk back and forth to school, or wait for the school buses, etc. A real neighborhood watch, where we all take responsibility for watching out for our little people. Besides keeping them safer, it would likely cut down a lot on the bullying from other kids if a neighborhood of adults was standing guard.
I couldn't have said it better myself. Especially your last line. I truly wish that people would stop looking to the afterlife (which has no basis in fact) and live each day for the life we have here on earth. This could be heaven on earth.
The rape and murder seems to be some kind of abberant dominance behavior. Unusual for a woman. But then women are violent people too.
Then again we could all just jump on the bandwagon and say, "She's just evil! Must be the work of Satan! She's probably secretly in one of those devil cults I heard about."
Re; posts above....that's the difficult argument put forth by Ivan in Dostoyevsky's 'The Brother's Karamazov' (in chapter preceding 'The Grand Inquisitor'): Why do so many children suffer so horribly in this world when they have nothing to do with the responsibility of free will? It's very thought provoking. Although it's been written that Dostoyevsky, a Christian believer (Russian Orthodox), gave a better argument for atheism than belief in 'The Brothers Karamazov' [through Ivan's argument], given the context I think Dostoyevsky affirms one's faith in God.
As for this woman and the murdered child, I agree with someone over on CNN chat to hold off on judgement as of yet due her not yet being proven guilty. Nevertheless, it does look convincing already and seems like in the U.S. these horrible actions by people are happening more and more frequently.
" They're also spraying something in the air. You can see it everyday, being sprayed by unmarked tankers (probably US Air Force). TOR-744926, I'll bet you can hear the electricity pulsing through your walls too...
OH MY GOD!!!!! You have GOT to be making this up. How could a "mother" with a daughter approx. the same age as poor little Sandra have done something like this. How??? I have no words, as this is WAY BEYOND belief.
Ooops...I hadn't read all comments above before posting--spitfire made same point as did someone else on CNN chat about not judging until proven guilty. That sounded good to me, but then George King has a good reminder of the woman's confessing (I think that appeared in an article yesterday, uncertain). This whole thing is just horrific. But yes, like it was pointed out in an advice column years ago--churches are not a museum of saints, but a hospital for sinners. And in this country, the American church establishment teaches capitalism (more than socialism as found in the Book of Acts). Focus on the Family executives, when they let employees go due to a lack of donations, were making $130,000/year (according to Colorado Springs Gazette). They should have come down off those donated salaries and shared amongst the flock.
I am also an admirer of Dostoyevsky's work. I've got to say, that is the single most unexpected citation in a discussion of a child's death. People generally look to scripture to provide some kind of hopeful perspective. Dostoyevsky articultated the horror and dread of life. If Dostoyevsky had anything to say about childhood, I shiver at the thought of what it must have been... a sort of Sesame Street in reverse in which all the muppets are grotesque and the children are deeply embarrassed by their emotions and retire, gloomily, indoors.
You raise a deep, albeit melancholy point. It almost shuts the conversation down with its gravity.
There's a reason 19th century Russian novelists' quotes don't appear on inspirational posters.
Dostoyevsky is too often maligned that way. Contrarily, he portrayed humanity in a positive sense overall. Yes, he often depicted human depravation. But that is, I think, because he had a deep faith in the goodness of humanity. His later speeches show that, particularly the last one he gave.
Here's an excellent example: In 'The Double', he depicts a man who is uninvited to a social gathering due to being known for causing trouble. He invites himself anyhow, shows up drunk, commits a terrible social gaffe, and gets thrown out of the party. What does he do? He repeats bible verses to himself in consolation, as though he has been unjustly persecuted by his enemies. Ha ha. After he brought it on himself. Very funny. We all do that, that's how persecution gets its power--we're all human and have some element of sin that makes us vulnerable to being attacked and crucified by others.
Now look at Kafka; 'The Trial'. And the point (used in Alcoholics Anonymous BTW) that we create our own misery. Kafka brings this point home in a guilt inducing manner (as does AA), whereas Dostoyevsky is making the same point but in a humorous fashion so we can laugh at ourselves. Christian liberation. Besides, Kafka had two sisters that died in concentration camps. So evidently, they didn't create their own misery.
And 'The Brothers Karamazov' ends on an exuberant note, with the children rejoicing over one they had socially and spiritually crushed before Alyosha, the Christian mystic, brought them together in reconciliation before the boys death.
'Crime and Punishment': Sonya works as a prostitute to raise the orphans (Polenka is one--and my dog is named after her) because their father was chronically inebriated and did not provide for them. They could have starved to death (in Russia) had the Christian Sonya not worked as a prostitute for Jesus.
Can that be done? Sin as God's will? Well, how about the "just war theory"? Killing is a sin, but acceptable (God's will?) when done in a just cause. And Sonya led Raskolnikov away from his personified and perverse just war theory when killing the old pawnbroker. He had rationalized killing the old woman would be good for society since all she did was harm people (just war theory). And since gov't leaders assume life and death moral decision making, why couldn't he? Yes...Sonya, the novels heroine, a Christian prostitute, leads him to redemption! How much more positive, creative, and thought provoking could literature be?!!!
BTW, 'The Sermon on the Mount' by Emmett Fox, was handed out in early Alcoholics Anonymous meetings (preceding AA's "Big Book"). Like Kafka, Fox took that same idea about how we create our own misery, and used it against....Christians!
Read Chapter 2, near the ending I think. Fox used the Old Testament verse that "If a mans ways are right with God, he'll make even his enemies be at peace with him" (paraphrased), to say that if we are in trouble spiritually, or persecuted, we've undoubtedly created our own misery. It's all our fault. Our *responsibility*.
He goes on to say that even the Christian martyrs were at fault, that their martyrdom was on their own shoulders for failing to love their enemies sufficiently. That if the martyrs had only loved their enemies more, then their enemies would have been at peace with them and not stoned them to death, sawn them in two, cut their heads off, etc., etc.
How perverse! And AA distributed that nonsense to newcomers in the 1930's and 1940's. And the U.S. court system presently continues to appoint court ordered AA against the U.S. Constitution (Supreme Court ruled AA a religion) for drunken drivers. They should increase the penalty for drunken driving; not force people into AA.
Point being, Dostoyevsky sailed ABOVE Kafka and AA fascist oppression.
bg-448864 wrote " Not to forget the fathers and siblings that molest their own kin. "
Yes, all fathers and male siblings are rapists in criminals. It's the "in" thing.
This story is yet another tragedy. But why is it so hard for some people to believe that this mentally disturbed committed such an evil violent act against her own daughters playmate?
She was caught shoplifting in the past and ordered to receive mental health counseling.
God bless this innocent girls family and friends with comfort.

"OH MY GOD!!!" Yep, you're probably right there. After all, wasn't it "My God" that told Abraham to go and slaughter his own son Isaac?

Thank you Chris Deile for finally contributing something of worth to Newsvine. I'm sure it flew right over the heads of most, as philosophical literature is not nearly as popular with posters as modern media, but I appreciated your words.
Dostoyevsky was visionary; I found myself thinking of Crime and Punishment during Saddam Hussein's kangaroo court trial for the very reasons you cite. I am only sorry that our leader was no Sonya.
I didn't mean to sound argumenative. I, like Alise, was really appreciative of your ability to draw an unexpected parallel. Your philosophical comments literally soared over the top of the usual comments. The sympathy and outrage of the others is natural; I'm not saying otherwise. But, on a certain level, one isn't really contributing anything by stating the obvious.
I'm not a great reader of literature, so I should probably have remained quiet. My field is social science. I enjoy Dostoyevsky, but probably don't extract the full range of meanings. When I read "The Double" and Notes from Underground (in which the dinner party episode is reappropriated twenty years later), I tend to only hit on the notes of despair. I read Dostoyevsky for the same reason other people might listen to Bauhaus or Joy Division.
This is one of those things that people watch happen and say "oh well that's too bad," and for most it's never even hit home, but this little girl was my family, although I had never met her I have met many of her relatives close to her and none of them believe that this is truly happening. She may be innocent until proven guilty but taking a look at her past, it makes people begin to question the type of life she was living. She has spent time in a mental institution prior to this event, maybe she just snapped, but she should pay and just because they are from a "crime ridden" area doesn't mean it wasn't her. The police have clearly done their investigation and at this point in time have the best suspect in custody and until they find further evidence disproving that then in custody she will remain.
The special circumstances mean Huckaby, if convicted, could face the death penalty or life in prison without the possibility of parole. Prosecutors have said they have not decided whether to seek the death penalty.
You know, if this woman did what she is accused of, I don't know how the prosecutors couldn't possibly consider the death penalty at this stage of the case.
She is beyond sick and beyond rehabilitating, in my opinion. All of her actions smack of having planned this. Disgusting.
Unable to reply to comments directly (above). But just came back here and read Alise42 and steech comments. Sonya probably wouldn't have supported Hussein for a time like our leader did (several years preceding the "kangaroo court trial"). But as for my comments here...they're not very clear upon re-reading. I have chronic encephalopathy and it is getting more and more challenging to think/write clearly. 'Notes From the Underground' is way above my head. Couldn't gain much comprehension at all. But yes, it did seem very negative. That is the only one that doesn't seem uplifiting to me. 'Poor Folk', 'Mr. Prokarchin', 'The Insulted and Injured', 'The Idiot', Brother's Karamazov', and 'Crime and Punishment' all are very interesting and thought provoking in a positive sense. Would have loved to attend a course on Dostoyevsky and learned insight from others. My understanding is probably not much more than high school level. Although an aptitude test as freshman in high school showed I was reading at 3rd level college, I also hit a wall that year with pre-Algebra. So though not too intelligent, love to try and gain some understanding of classic literature. Cliff Notes help alot. I read them for fun sometimes, just to help with comprehension.
Another sad senseless tragedy. Our children can't even play with their friends.....their playmates parent (s) could be a functioning psycopath. I am sure this lady, the suspect portrayed her concern for this missing child. The Sunday schoolteacher has been arrested and charged with the kidnapping and murder of her daughter's friend. How many times has little Sandra visited her home and played with her little girl? How devasting for her own daughter to think that her mother had something to do with the murder of her friend. People like this lady are the classis "wolf in sheeps clothing". I myself thought some male freak had taken this child. Boy was I wrong. Who would have thought that a mother was involved.... Now another parent has to bury their child. When is it going to stop?
Please, we need to really know our children's playmates parents, but then again do we really know anyone??
So, I guess it is time to throw out the old "Innocent until proven guilty". No where in the article did it say that there was solid proof against this woman, just circumstantial evidence and the fact that the family of the slain girl want to retaliate against this woman is just sickening.
What proof is there that some other sick person, who might be living in the same trailer park, didn't take the suitcase from the end of the driveway and abduct the girl on her way home from her friend's house? None. So before fingers are pointed, I think all of the facts need to be examined.
Does the fact that the suitcase was hers mean anything to you? She gave the police a mixed up story. That's why she is a suspect. The police are no fools. They deal with this kind of stuff every day.
So why is a "woman" so unusual? Look @ all the mothers that kill their own children. I'm a woman & CANNOT understand how anybody could hurt a child like this, but there are just as many evil women out there as men. If this had been a man, I don't think anybody would be defending him, but since it's a woman? I also do believe in the presumption of innocense. The news indicated that she confessed to some extent during questioning. That's how they knew she was dead before her parents even reported her missing. The fact is, this poor little girl is dead & somebody did it. Was it this woman? I don't know but if it is her, then I hope she gets put away for life & if she confesses & they are 100% sure she did it, then I don't have a problem with putting her to death.
Excuse me bg=448864, but, the police are some of the BIGGER fools in the workforce. NOT ALL, but, come on--even the police would agree with me on this (again not all) point is, they are some egotistical cops running your streets with a grudge and "thing or two" to prove...one of which, is---they are never wrong. How old are you anyhow - 12, 17 - or 22 and never been in the real world? Because, obviously you don't have a clue. (I'm sorry but, that's just a fact, about you and about the police.) Granted, there are "some good ones" out there but to be very honest with you....their minds are as tainted as some of the conspiracy thinking minds that the Air Force is trying to spray gas that is making humanity commit these kind of crimes. Wake up, this woman is INNOCENT "until" proven guilty as there isn't any evidence of her guilt. We haven't heard ANY incriminating "evidence" besides this suitcase that was left on the street. Easily "could" have been taken by a freak, or a relative that she's covering up for. Which brings up another point; why isn't she "allowed" visitors?? Seems rather messed up to me. She DROVE herself into the interrogation...would you have if you just murdered someone? That's a rhetorical question (you can look up rhetorical in the dictionary).
#2.3 - about the police not being fools - remember the olympics in Atlanta and that poor security guard that the FBI and the Atlanta police persecuted before it was finally proved, by the press actually, that he had nothing to do with that bombing?
Do you remember all the innocent people who have been let out of prison over the past 5 years or so because they were wrongly arrested by the police and convicted by the legal system?
When a child is involved, especially a minority child, the police look for quick resolution. I'm smell something fishy here with this Cantu case and I'm not ready to condemn this woman. I need more information.
PBAlice-886803 - " She hasn't been convicted yet except by the press. "
Well, then, in the world of sex equality, she should have her name plastered all over the papers as any accused man would. Though, assaulting a child with an object is not natural sexuality, even for a man. Messed up. She should get the death penalty, as would a male rapist/killer, but she'll probably get a light sentence because women are guardians of virtue and morality and wouldn't hurt a fly.
Correct, Ian... I hate to be indelicate, but the fact that the girl was 'sexually assaulted with a foreign object' indicates a woman did this crime, NOT a man.
And she'll get a light sentence because she'll 're-confirm her faith'.
The whole thing is just sad. I know the Police can only release so much info at this point but, if this lady did do it, it will be interesting to hear why or how things happened or if she's covering something up or for someone.
There's got to be more to this. No mention of predator status before, single parent of female child, family structure from a religious background. I'm witholding my venom until more facts come out. Coverup sound more likely, the police would not have kept her without something more than a hunch. If you want to rant about child killers, what about that casey anthony, eh?
It amazes me that people think religion in their life makes them immune from the evils that can be committed. And the police wouldnt let information out to the press based on some light hunch. There's certainly more information they have we dont know. Its a shocking and rare case, but not out of the realm of possibility unfortunately.
"family structure from a religious background" -- You hit the nail on the head right there! In my book, that's an obvious clue that someone is deranged. If you're crazy enough to believe that there is an imaginary man in the sky who sees all and knows all, and expects our constant prayer and devotion, but then lets things like this happen, then it's not a stretch to say that you're crazy enough to kill a little girl.
Well redneck lawyer you obviously dont know many people with a religious background, usually they are the majority of the people who are well behaved and do the right thing. Because they know right from wrong, whereas many others have this "well if it feels good" then I will do it mentality. And if believing in God makes someone crazy enough to kill then you obviously have never heard of the ten commandments where one of them is "THOU SHALT NOT KILL." With that said just because someone believes in God doesnt make them without sin. The usual reality is the better a person usually tries to be the more they have to fight not wanting to do the wrong thing. It seems really contradictory but it is true.
romans chapter 7 verses 14 to 25 Thats sort of what you said for anyone who needs a reference, I prefer the King James version but feel free to look at any of the others that suit you.Rednecklawer has some issues that only death will show him the truth.
alang...ooooh, I'll bet rednecklawyer is SCARED now!
Won't you be sorry when you die and find out "that's all, folks"? That you wasted your entire life on a lie that has killed tens of millions over 2 millenia in the name of your 'truth'?
Why don't you live for today, make 'here and now' a better place, instead of worrying about your great reward? Then, perhaps, things like this tragedy won't happen because there will be less distorted, irrational thinking, and people will actually LEARN what's right and wrong, instead of being force fed these stupid paradox all their lives like this disgusting woman was by her preacher father.
wasnt trying to scare anyone ,but this article sure broughtout alot of believer's and non-believer's,i only hope for peace myself and its in short supply these days especially on this vine and in the world , and thats a travesty.alise42 your a typical commentor and your opionion is just that, good luck with your own conscience.
I would like to know the truth. Was the suitcase simply an easy piece of evidence to help pin a murder on someone. The whole thing is a bit too bizarre for me to accept at this point. Five hours with police who think they have their perp - could have been a very unfriendly, coercive interrogation. I want facts and scientific evidence.
It will be fascinating to hear the motive and whether or not this woman actually did it. But, yes, I can't wait to hear "why" this person decided to do something so terrible to a child.
First of all, to the writer of this story: "parishoners" is a Catholic term and not appropriate for either Protestant church in this story. "Congregation" or "members" or "attendees" would fit better.
As far as the case, it just made me cry. How could Maria, Sandra's mom, have had any inkling? You have to trust some other adults while raising your children! This is just one of those random oddball scenarios, and Sandra and Maria just happened to live in the wrong place at the wrong time.
If the killer was a psychopath, it's not unusual for them to be able to create a convincing cool, "moral," and kind exterior, and work in a position that allows people to trust them. Think Ted Bundy, who worked in government, or Dennis Rader, who worked for a security company and also as a city compliance officer and church worker. They say there are at least 1 in 1000 people that are psychopaths/sociopaths, and that means they're all around us. I doubt it has to do with gas in the air or poisons in the water. There have always been mentally ill people about.
Last thought, my first instinct was that perhaps Sandra died somehow accidentally, and the suspect tried to cover it up. Perhaps even something her 5 year old daughter did. However, it seems the police have really ruled enough out to believe this is really a psych issue, which might be why they're withholding info from the autopsy.
Don't know about this particular church, but "parish or parishoner" is used in the Episcopal church and Lutheran church. Both off shoots of the Catholic church
The Media and even the nieghbors have already convicted this woman, whatever happend to innocent until proven guilty ?
As for as the comment by the suspect about the suitcase being removed from the end of the driveway, if thats all they have as proof or evidence the police out there suck.
I have placed items at the end of the driveway for the trash collectors, and the items didn't last half a day before someone drove by and took the items.
Old suitcase's
Bar bells,
Refrigerators,
Fishing poles,
Stereo's
Speakers,
Lawn mower's,
Leaf blower's,
The list goes on and on.
I have related the removal of these items to friends and family, as conversation topics, as to how fast other people see the items I deem to be junk, as a treasure for themselves.
I could easily see a criminal that would do something like this seeing a suitcase at the end of a driveway in the area that the crime was committed, and using this item to dispose of or hide that poor childs body.
I'm not in the least saying this woman shouldn't have been taken in for further questioning, yet to label her "As Guilty", before a trial in the media, is dead wrong.
Brian Im with you. She may have done it yes, But my dad used to do the same thing with putting out all our junk by the road and just like clockwork the people passing by began to slow down, and look, then stop and load up! So it could have been someone else, just depends on what that woman said to police tomake them hold her. I dont believe that if she did do it, that it was intentional. Why would it have taken so long? It just seems wierd to me. FairnSquare may also have a thought. You just truly never know what really happened if you werent there. So Sad
I've found just the opposite. If I put something at the end of the driveway with a sign that says "FREE" it doesn't budge. Put a sign that says "FOR SALE" and it's gone before I get back into the house
The article I read said nothing about the suitcase being at "the end of the driveway". She had place the suitcase beside her car (cause she was on her way to the Sunday School classroom and had packed the suitcase with items to use in her classroom) and went back in the house to find her cell phone. After 15 minutes, she didn't find her phone and came out and got into her car and drove away, forgetting all about the suitcase (that she had taken out to place beside of her car to take with her).
Now, not to find her guilty before a trial, but that does sound a little fishy and convenient, since it was her suitcase they found the child in!
Gayle-324397, the part about the suit case being at the end of the driveway was on the TV news stations, and not in the article. She had stated to police that a suit case she had put out for trash pick up was missing.
I do agree that the media convicts people too quickly. HOWEVER, had this been a man that "allegedly" did this to the young girl, no one in here would dare claim the media is jumping to conclusions.
I think that all you people who are screaming about "innocent until proven guilty," government cover-ups, and other conspiracies, etc. are probably just a bunch of Christians or other religious fanatics who are hoping against hope that it's not one of your own. "Oh, she was a nice Christian woman and a Sunday school teacher. How could it possibly be her?" Oh please. Don't make me puke.
This is a mobile home park, with little traffic. Random people are not driving around looking for junk in front of homes. And, if the suitcase had really be stolen, why didn't she relay this bit of information to the cops who were questioning everyone in the mobile home park? The info about the suitcase was not discovered until the piece of garbage known as Melissa Huckaby (while in the hospital for internal bleeding -- wonder how she got that?) told a reporter who called her by chance, after hearing about the suitcase from someone else at the mobile home park. SHE'S GUILTY ALRIGHT!
Well redneck lawyer I sure hope you dont practice law if you feel that way! And I dont care if it was a man or woman who did this I am saying that if you were not there then YOU dont know what happened. Francobob-I am the only girl with 3 brothers so dont even start me on that! Every one is SUPPOSED to be equal right? Oh no wait thats right we are obviously not. I never said she was innocent But who knows maybe she is. Hope none of you are ever accused of something you didnt do...better yet yes I do so that you will know what many people who are convicted everyday feel! And then 20 years later they are exonerated and released without so much as a sorry we ruined your life. Like the lady who claimed she had been raped by the man who was proven to be innocent after DNA came out. He spent a long time in jail.
The Media and even the nieghbors have already convicted this woman, whatever happend to innocent until proven guilty ?
Exactly. This happens anytime someone is murdered (especially children and pregnant women). They are tried and convicted in the MEDIA BEFORE they get their day in court.
People , as usual, just want easy answers, and to put horrible crimes behind them. But we NEED to examine these cases closely before we judge anyone.
Unfortunately , you are now guilty in the public and in the mdeia until proven innocent. What is becoming of our once great country???
Amen! What about all the stories you hear about DNA proving innocents to people who were found guilty of crimes they did not commit? People loosing LARGE parts of their lives to knee jerk responses to horrible crimes. I would not want someone to be charged if there was not enough evidence to prove without a doubt. I couldnt have that type of burden on my chest. Is this the right person? How will I feel if new evidence comes to show this person didnt do it? That would be worse because you have caused the destruction of two families (both now victims of the system)
Yup, it is definetly pressure from the D.A's office and in the police department to get this solved. (after all cannot have a child murdered wandering around, even though there are likely hundreds on the loose right now!)
When you put pressure and science together you almost always get bad results. Hopefully they have some "real" hard evidence. Something besides her hair or blood in small amounts at her house. After all these kids played together, and kids lose hair and get scrapes and cuts all the time.
How did the suitcase get to the pond? If she (the 28y/o) used her car there maybe some evidence in the trunk or if the girl was in the car there should be DNA. No one seems to know yet where this crime was committed.
Someone could have killed Sandra and then found the suitcase at the end of the drive. There are other possibilities that should and I hope would be investigated.
So sorry for Sandra and her family it's tragic beyond comprehension. If this woman is guilty I hope they throw the book at her if not I pray they find the cretin who did this.
Question is, what is becoming of our people and morals? Murder, rape, molestation, neglect, the lists goes on and on. Maybe it is because we have access to more media than ever before but crimes of all nature are on the rise everyday. More and more innocent children are being killed etc than ever before and we worry about whether the accused are going to get a fair trial. Where's the justice for the victims? I can't say this woman is innocent or guilty but I can say, if proven guilty of the crimes she's being charged with without doubt, then don't put her in a cell for my tax dollars to feed and clothe her the rest of her life. Give her what she gave an innocent 8 year old little girl...death.
Rudywho yes we do care if the accused gets a fair trial because if innocent, then justice for the victim has not happened. And what if the accused is your daughter or other family member? She has a child of her own, but you dont care about it because a child was killed? So it could be fair to say that you dont care who is hung out to dry as long as its someone!("More and more innocent children are being killed etc than ever before and we worry about whether the accused are going to get a fair trial") Well the accused is someones child tooo and if they are innocent but convicted then they tooo are the victim. Now I do believe in the death penalty and if she is responsible then ok I am fine with that.
These types of crimes have been going on since the beginning of time. We used to read about them in the newspaper (maybe). Now with the nightly news & internet, you hear everything that happens. The worse the crime is the more you hear of it. Just tune into Nancy Grace. If this woman did it, it turns out that she knew the child. That is usually who will hurt your child, someone in the family or someone your child knows. It's rare that an unknown nut job kidnaps your child. I think I read where it was maybe 50 a year. Yeah, I know it's 50 too many, but parents need to be aware of everyone around their child & unfortunately parents need to watch their kids when they are outside playing or walk with them to a neighbors house. Most likely nothing will happen but I feel bad for the parent that didn't go with their child when they just went down the street & something happens, they have to live with that forever. It shouldn't be this way, but sadly it is.
Church freaks me out. Church is very similar to jail, in the regard that bad people tend to congregate there. In jail, they're forced to. In church, they are trying to escape from the bad parts of themselves. I believe it would be safer to leave your children with a group of athiests than a group of Christians.
Sorry, can't agree. I know quite a few atheists, and they are NOT looking for forgivness and direction, but it doesn't mean they don't need either. No one is perfect. To blame all Christians for the bad acts of a few is just as unfair and wrong as blaming all atheists for the bad acts of their few.
Rotten apples in any 'group' of people. Ethnic, religous, socio-economic...you name it.
I think it's just that if we can blame some 'group', it gives us a feeling of safety. Like, we can avoid harm if we avoid that group. But it's a false safety. There are bad people everywhere, in every group, and blaming Christians as a whole is just silly. Should I never trust a woman anywhere because a woman may have done this?
I am Christian, my best friend is an atheist, I also have a good friend who is wiccan. I would trust all of them, and they trust me. The church I attend has some people I trust and some I don't. I take each person on a one-to-one basis, and that's the only fair way to judge people. And lets face it...even then, we can still be wrong and hood-winked.
I hope the family can find comfort for the loss of their precious child.
I'm not an atheist - that requires a degree of certitude about the subject I simply cannot claim, so I'll call myself agnostic. I'm certainly NOT "anti-Christian", but I do have to say that folks who are overtly religious ("witnessing" Christians, self-described "born again" Christians, etc.) tend to be a bit, well, "suspect". It's as tho' they've taken the Christian premise and promise of forgiveness and used it to justify being complete, freakin' jerks - so much so that, when someone spontaneously volunteers the info that they are a "Christian" (usually in some self-justificatory manner or circumstance), my first inclination is to grab my wallet and hide my daughters. Preachers and their families, particularly, seem to have a lot of dirty, weird, little secrets and strange vices and compulsions and it makes one wonder if one is not "called" to the profession because of some internal derangement. I recall one of my anthropology professors claiming that the folks who are attracted to anthropology, most often, are people who aren't comfortable in any culture, therefore they study cultures. The same holds true of psychiatrists and psychologists, almost every one of whom I've met has been nuttier than their patients, as tho' they went into the profession because of their own mental dysfunction. So, far from shocking me that the possible perp is a preacher's daughter, I guess I'm actually not the least surprised. I can only wonder what possible motive anyone could have for killing a little girl. That's an aspect of humanity which always will elude me.
This isnt "Sad"...this is a horrific crime. If the Sunday school teacher did it, then yeah I want her burned at the stake. She does deserve an honest unbiased trail like we all do. The only caveat is this... NO MENTAL HEALTH EXCUSES. People, honestly,..... ADD, ADHD, Bipolar Disorder, Panic Attacks, depression...blah blah blah blah. If anyone out there is reading this and thinks they suffer from one of these phantom disorders and thinks about or fantasizes about harming kids, then please do the right thing and kill yourself. You cant be fixed and I dont like rolling the dice wondering if your gonna take your happy pill today.
Hey high and mighty; If your tired of f'ups then maybe you should crawl under a giant rock in Siberia and stay away from the rest of civilization. Cuz these "f'ups" as you like to call em are all around you. Have you been to your local psychiatrist lately, because the rage in your post tells me there just may be a diagnosis in the DSM for you--hmmmm. People in glass houses.....
With regard to the article--tragic. I hope for all involved that it is investigated properly.
Cmon Missycat, I suspect that your smarter than that. ..... And I hope your wrong that all these nut jobs are surrounding me. But do you honestly sympathize with these scumbags...
Andrea Yates - drowns 5 kids..but she is the victim of "post-partum depression"
The Omaha Mall Shooter - killed 13 innocent people.. but he's the victim of "depression" and a child of divorce
Virginia Tech Shooter - kills 33 students -- again "depressed" about kids teasing him..
Again, cmon missycat lets cry some big crocodile tears for these "victims"/human piles of crap.
You are right on one thing though, when compared to these scumbags, yeah I guess I do consider myself high and might,
Why does it bother you so much F'ups? All of the people you mention are either in a high security mental health facility or dead. So what about their DX that bothers you?
I agree. It is horrific. and, very well put Tired of F'Ups! I too believe that all these phantom, bull@!$%# diseases are nothing more than a scape goat for those perpatrators to continue and/or excuse their crimes. We should all be help accountable for our actions.
Again ---- WHY does it bother you? If these people either kill themselves, end up in a criminal mental health facility or in a jail ---- WHY does it bother you?
It helps in the treatment of others to know why these horrific acts took place.
"We should all be help accountable for our actions. "
And which of the people that were mentioned have not, in some way, been held accountable for their actions. Furthermore, who is suggesting that mentally ill criminals not be held accountable? There is more than one way to serve time.
This child was raped with a foreign object. The alleged suspect is a female. This world is changing and the Bible talks about the changes. They are happening right under our noses. Our morals are changing and the Bible talks about this.
I hope this child was not raped. This breaks my heart. I hope they have the wrong suspect. It's wrong for anyone to do this to a child but I really can't bear the thought of a female doing this to a child.
the suggestion of rape with a foreign object unfortunatly suggests it was a women, not to be crude but if it were a male attacker i would strongly suspect he would have used his own object on the child. sick that a woman, a mother herself might have committed such a horrible act, but as much as we hate to admit it there are women pedophiles as well.
The more important question is why it doesnt bother you???? If this woman committed the crimes she is charged with and she was "diagnosed" with depression, would you consider HER a victim????????? If so, I consider you nothing more than an enabler of these types of evil scumbags
If these nutjobs kill themselves, Im all for it. More power to them. Unfortunately these selfish @!$%#s seems to think they need to take innocents with them when they go.
As far as being locked up, Id certainly like to not finance these human defects any more than I have to.
Yeah, I agree. I don't care what disorder someone has, if they murder a child, then there is no excuse for having them around any longer. And there is definitely no excuse for not recieving the punishment they deserve. I think no matter what is wrong with a person's mind, there is still somewhat of a sense of what is wrong and right.
I don't care either what their clap trap malady/exuse is either, the victim is no less DEAD.
I don't care if you claim a religion or not, if you think God is talking to you, then you have voices in your head and you're just plain nuts. Over the edge religious fanatics use God as an excuse and an escape route from reality and responsibility for ones own behavior.
If it is that woman hang her high, if not I hope the find the pervert and do the same. The ones that concern me is that poor child and her mother. And, I'm sorry for the child who's mother may or may not be the whack job.
"Jesus is out of the tomb and Sandra is too," McFarland told The Associated Press after the sermon. "She's not in a grave, she's not in a suitcase. She's in heaven and celebrating the best Easter ever."
Those priests need to learn to shut their piehole. Nothing but poison coming out of it.
If jesus supposedly "loves all the little children" why did he let this one die, and so many others around the world that die every day at the hands of whack jobs, from disease, starvation - the list goes on.
Oh, but wait, this was all god's plan for this poor little girl. According to you christian whack jobs, everything that happens is god's plan, so there's no reason to be sad. Want to talk about sick? That sort of BS makes my stomach turn and my skin crawl. So take your rhetoric and shove it.
This poor kid was brutally killed. If someone told me my daughter was with jesus now, I'd beat the $hit out of them. Find the person that did this and kill them, before they kill someone else.
I argued with someone like you, and someone like 'NeverWorried' below, for two years of my life. Endless and pointless is it to argue with someone who is deaf, blind, and dumb; so therefore, live your life, jeer at those who you believe to be "stupid religious people" but remember my words, and the words of many others like me... you will pay the price in the end. You cannot save yourself.
Oh go F yourself. I don't need saving. I've been atheist my entire life and have NEVER, EVER even come close to doing anything as haneous as anything that your "god" has done. "God" is personally responsible for killing at least A MILLION PEOPLE in the bible. "God" has wiped entire cities off the face of the earth, killed women and children, condoned rape, sodomy - the list goes on for a long time. So apparently killing is ok with "god". Now, piss off.
Shame on the Uncle of Sandra. Blaming the Hucklebee family. They had nothing to do with it. They are as astonished and shocked as everyone else. He needs to put the blame where it should be put... on her solely. It would be in his best interest to move as he stated previously and for the protection of the Hucklebee's. I wouldn't trust him.
And how does one know which things are to disgust him or her until they....ummmm.... read the posts? I think people who think like that are just as sick as the people they are condemning.
In a case like this, it shouldn't be locals who prosecute - to much emotion. This is exactly how innocent people get convicted. People freak out - they want a perp to prosecute. They want to feel safe. It has nothting to do with whether or not the woman is a Sunday school teacher. Someone killed a little girl - thats horrendous. The truth needs to be known - with facts and evidence - sans the hysteria.
We don't know all the facts yet, she is a suspect and is innocent until proven guilty. For all we know, a male relative or acquaintance could have done this and the trail lead to her property. In any case, may justice prevail for this child.
It is a tragedy and a horrible nightmare for parents and anyone who cares about kids, this nation really needs to invest in the education of prevention of child abuse and safe houses for kids so the cycle of dysfunction stops.
Prayers to this family and a call for activism for effective child protection services/programs/laws.
If this was a man, no one would be saying "innocent until proven guilty". Everyone would be screaming, fry him, another predator
This is also true, mothers kill their children all the time. Men are always prosecuted and witch hunted much more. Especially in the media. It's a good and expected storyto sell.
Someday, I hope someone is convicted based on media frenzy , so that everyone who screams (fry them) can feel the reality of conviction without due process and real evidence (not circumstantial).
Only then will people begin to think before they convict, and use the scientific method. Unfortunately someone will have to die and be proven innocent without the shadow of a doubt, for this to happen....
There was a sweet little boy in Michigan a couple of years ago, and it was his mom who killed him. His dad helped cover it up, but he was the one who finally went to the police and confessed. I saw the boy's place of emtombment while at another funeral, it's very beautiful but very sad that it exists at all. Women do kill, and they are not "ladies".
Unfortunately, women/mothers probably have been killing their own children over the years but since it is a "woman", they never looked @ her. I can't believe it is just happening for some reason over the past 10 yrs or so. She can throw on the crocodile tears & everyone feels for her, but if the man cries, then they think he is feeling guilty. Let this woman have her day in court.
When I heard a woman was arrested in this case I was dumbfounded. What woman could do such a thing to a little girl, especially a woman who has children of her own? This just doesn't sound right to me. But then, weirder things have happened I guess.
If you ever watch Forensic Files, 48 Hours:Hard Evidence, Cold Case Files, or any number of other series dedicated to solving real crimes, you will learn that bad things happen to good people, and good people do bad things!
Personally, I feel very uneasy around born-again Christians. Most of them are such hard core religious freaks that it's a turn off to other people who also believe in God, but don't need a soap box to deliver their message.
The media has a way to manipulate minds in a way to achieve their ultimate goals. For money. Whether it is in selling their newspapers, reading it on the Internet, hearing it on TV or the radio, or whatever. This is a bizarre case, indeed. I reserve my judgment until more facts are brought forward, which will probably be a long time. Who knows, at this point, what really happened? All they have is a suitcase, and their fingers pointing a certain direction. Remember the Jon Benet case? Everyone was quick to point to the parents. I'd hate to see angry mobs loose in this Country deciding whom is guilty without proper investigation. How will any of you feel if it comes out that the wrong person has/is being accused? If she is guilty, then let Justice take its course. However, if she isn't guilty, then may God have mercy on all of your accusing souls.
Yeah good idea,
don't ever let your children outside.
Not to forget the fathers and siblings that molest their own kin.
Ah-men to that!!!
Beware!
Ahh Steech! Love your comments. hahahahaa!!! That Sharon Walker one killed! LMAO
I believe Wallgreens currently has their tin foil on sale. As yours is apparently worn out and no longer protecting you, you should buy two rolls at the sale price...
Ruby,
I feel bad about my Sharon Walker post.
Some of your posts might not make you proud but they make others laugh. Life is funny.......and sad and sickening.
Jim, Walgreens brand tin foil is too flimsy. Reynolds Heavy Duty is the way to go.
spitfyre: I would think her confession would be enough. Try, convict, execute.
RubyDragon and Jim Dent:
I wouldn't go there. In today's free market capitalist society, the last thing we need to do is give businesses the idea of incorporating product placementm sales pitches in murder cases. (Martha Stewart pillowcases for suffocation murders, for instance).
KJR wrote,
"We can only take comfort that little Sandra is now in heaven with Jesus and surrounded by God's love."
OH MY GOD!!! OH MY GOD!!!
Steech there was once someone who said anyone who becomes nostalgic for childhood, obvioulsy doesnt remember being a child.
Rednecklawyer9, concerning your comments...
Well, at least you got that part right.
This story is yet another tragedy. But why is it so hard for some people to believe that this mentally disturbed committed such an evil violent act against her own daughters playmate?
She was caught shoplifting in the past and ordered to receive mental health counseling.
God bless this innocent girls family and friends with comfort.

USA4HIM: Murdering, raping and kidnapping are WORLDS away from shoplifting. They aren't even in the same galaxy.
This is 'off-topic', but...
Chris,
I didn't mean to sound argumenative.
She hasn't been convicted yet except by the press.
Does the fact that the suitcase was hers mean anything to you? She gave the police a mixed up story. That's why she is a suspect. The police are no fools. They deal with this kind of stuff every day.
bg - I agree. Most of us have seen too much TV, in the real world the guy holding the bloody knife really did do it.
Its very very sad! Period!
If this woman is guilty she needs to "Fry" for what she did.
People that kill children should be spared no mercy...may be that would be a deterant to the others.
Also, people that prey on children should be locked up and never let out! Period!
No one can rehabilitate these monsters...I don't care what anyone says...they need to be either exicuted or jailed for life....
Will never happen they only "fry" women in texas.
And with Bubba Gump's special sauce, they taste real good.
jay, you fool. any state that has the death penalty will "execute" a women.
John List had a religious background too and he wiped out his whole family.
All I want to know is the motive, and the sentence.
Sick, sick people out there...
"Media Malpractice" at it's worst !
Now, not to find her guilty before a trial, but that does sound a little fishy and convenient, since it was her suitcase they found the child in!
so how many of you who put a suitcase at the end of the driveway had it found later with a dead childs body in it?
I saw on the news that a teenager had seen an older man with a pickup truck near the water where this child was found. Whatever happened with that?
They better have more that this....
I believe I saw on the news that they believe the church is the crime scene? Does she live right next door to it?
WhenWillThisEnd? -- I believe the church was on the same block as the little girl and this lady lived.
Being an atheist, I agree! Lots of people looking for "forgiveness and direction" in a church. Meaning they are "guilty and lost"?
Morndew, too bad more Christians aren't as level headed as you seem to be.
Interesting analysis odefarte.
I would have to strongly agree with both these statements.
Whats going on on the Vine? Rational voices prevale??? LOL
Oldefarte,
Get off the fence, my man. To quote Stephen Colbert, "an agnostic is just an atheist without any balls."
Sincerely,
Former Agnostic
typical......enough said.
Just unbelievable, something has got to be wrong with this arrest? We hope. Can't grasp what in the world is wrong with everyone? It's just too much!
Not one for trying to understand I see. Wow, real tolerant.
Missed this part on the first go around:
A Human,
The more important question is why it doesnt bother you???? If this woman committed the crimes she is charged with and she was "diagnosed" with depression, would you consider HER a victim????????? If so, I consider you nothing more than an enabler of these types of evil scumbags
If these nutjobs kill themselves, Im all for it. More power to them. Unfortunately these selfish @!$%#s seems to think they need to take innocents with them when they go.
As far as being locked up, Id certainly like to not finance these human defects any more than I have to.
It doesn't bother me because knowledge and evidence of these disorders helps millions who also suffer from these issues. Knowledge is power.
It also doesn't bother me because these people are locked up, away from society.
I think my taxes are better served punishing people for the rest of their lives rather than making it easy and killing them.
And one more thing: these people are usually on suicide watch so that is probably why most don't kill themselves.
I don't approve that either but the man is in shock, quite understandably. He obviously still needs to absorb the events.
If she is found guilty, she needs to fry. And don't put a cloth over her face either.
I'd like to see her eyeballs pop out!
Again --- this disturbs me. Who would say such a thing?
If this type of atrocity doesn't fill you with disgust and outrage then you were disturbed long before you got on this thread!
I am disgusted and outraged by this murder. I think the people who do these things are vile, disturbed human beings.
But I am also disgusted when people like you say such things.
And I'm so glad I had the opportunity to contribute to your gastric distress!
It's your option-read or don't read!
And how does one know which things are to disgust him or her until they....ummmm.... read the posts? I think people who think like that are just as sick as the people they are condemning.
Coming from a pantywaist pacifist like yourself, I'll consider that a compliment!
The very fact that you can't defend yourself or your POV without personally attacking your opponent speaks volumes.

Everyone would be screaming, fry him, another predator!
I agree with other posters here, let's don't convict the lady in the news. She might not have done it, let the facts come out before we judge.
Yes, let us not forget is has a right to a jury trial, not a trial by media and public opinion.
I'd hate to see it, too... but, I'm afraid it's heading that way, and when it does, it will no longer be a place worth living in or fighting for.
