Yes and our forefathers were mostly all "Legal" immigrants. Not trespassers. When you trespass in many other countries they would just shoot you on the spot... you can claim we are all immigrants and that's all fine and dandy but when land is claimed by a group of persons and claimed their own and some alien, stranger or "immigrant" invades it without there permission intentionally then who cares if they are an immigrant? How many inmated die in prisons regularly? Now how many of them used guns or even needed to use a gun? In reality they are now just more stealthy and can get away with using an alternate weapon.

They DO take our ditch-digging jobs. Yes, I'm a ditch-digger and was laid off even at that. They force us to compete with them for lower and lower wages all the time. Everyone says that illegal aliens do the jobs that white americans are too lazy to do. Well that's bull@!$%#! I have been doing this kind of work for 10 years now, and it's getting worse all the time. Even the midwest isn't safe from immigrant low-ballers. I don't blame the immigrants, however. If I were them, I'd probably do the same thing. I blame the greedy business owners who employ them under the table, without having to pay taxes AND paying the low wages. Construction used to pay a living wage, even for people just starting with a company. Now we have to have another job to supplement that job just to make ends meet. And believe me, it's quite hard to go work a second job at night when you've been digging, leveling, mixing concrete, and carrying shingles up a ladder all day. Oh, I almost forgot, we also can't go for a doctor's visit because we don't have insurance either.

We have an agency like this in city where I live. In our compnay we use this agency to hire legal immigrants when we can. Occasionally we have hired people with phony papers, but never from this agency. I am proud to say that when we find workers with bad papers we contact ICE and make sure they have a nice trip back to their home land (17 sent back to date). Most of the legal refugees have come from Vietnam, Cambodia, Myranmar, Russia, and Somalia. The news said that most of the refugees in Binghamton were from Asian countries.
I don't know if this is the case with this agency, but I am willing to wait until I do know it is assisting illegals before I throw rocks.

I am in shock of the posting above. There is little or no sympathy to the poor immigraints who were trying to to the right thing and become tax paying citizens. My thoughts and prayers go out to those individuals whose lives were taken, to those who are fighting for their lives, to those who witnessed (or were present) during this terrible act, and to all their family members.

They were just trying to help the illegals get jobs in their own country when they erected the wall on the southern border. The government built a 20 foot high wall between Mexico and the US. What difference does it make if these people killed were legal or illegal immigrants???!!! I live the next county over from this and the local radio station has stopped regular programming. Latest from police scanner accodring to the radio station is 13 dead, 4 removed on stretchers earlier, and within the last 15 mins, some people released unharmed.
The shooter is reported as Asian, and this center helps immigrants.

If you get licensed to carry a concealed handgun...then you will not become a victim. Had the community organizers had the good sense in these times, to take the proper training and had the backbone to carry a weapon to protect them...then the only person dead would have been the killer. Unfortunately, so many people just want to blame guns for these travesties...either they are afraid to protect themselves, or think that the police will protect them. The police cannot protect you, only you can protect yourselves. In Texas, we are allowed to carry a handgun in our automobile, and I am an older lady who is a realtor and have to show people I do not know houses, and yes, I carry one with me at all times due to the violence starting in this country. I train with my pistol every weekend, so if I am in a situation that I must protect myself, I will know that I can. My husband is retired military, and he has been licensed to carry a concealed weapon on himself. We are not crazy psychos, but we are realists, and realize that these kind of crazy things happen...we are just prepared to defend ourselves and our family from some psycho. Guns do not kill people...people kill people, and as times become harder for people, there will be more of these situations because people become depressed and psychotic, and decide to take their frustrations out on others before they kill themselves. Pray that our government does not remove the second amendment because if they do, first...there will be a fight...and if they are successful in killing everyone who resists giving up their guns, the only people armed will be the police, the military and the whackos and criminals...these people will find a way to have a gun. How long have you lived in the area?
I lived in Binghamton for a semester while my husband finished school, and the local news there was so scary I hardly wanted to leave our apartment. I have lived in other areas in NY all my life - Poughkeepsie, Oneonta, Cooperstown, Ithaca - and nothing came close what went on in that town.
Parts of Binghamton are absolutely beautiful....and most of the people are wonderful. There are parts that need improvement....without a doubt...but there are good parts too.
Which parts are beautiful? All I can recall are the highways, the inner city areas, the fast food chains, and the shopping malls.. Maybe you mean beautiful residential areas? Or hilly areas that surround the city? You can find that type of beauty anywhere in NYS, minus the criminals.
I live near Rochester. That's one city that has more crime in NYS than even Binghampton. I hope that whoever did this is brought to justice. Taking the lives of innocent people is never right; no matter what this man may believe.
I guess beauty is where you want to find it. I totally understand what you are saying...however, I live by the motto..."The only difference between a bad day and a great day is your attitude". I choose to find the good....and yes...some days you really have to look. I have lived in this area all my life.....and I do leave my house and enjoy a lot of wonderful things in the area. I have never known nor heard of a loaded weapon sitting in the corner of a room or on top of a table going off on its own. I have heard of vehicle brakes releasing on their own and hurting people. I have heard of more people getting injured or killed with vehicles than with weapons, so why don't the government officials ban vehicles? Is it cause these government official are go deep into the pockets of the car manufactures that they can't walk straight.

Now wait a minute....every small-mid-size city has its issues. There is alot of good there and good people. What happened today could have happened in New York City or some tiny one-stop-light town. It is not representitive of all the people who live and work there.
You're right, I'm sorry if I offended you - there are, of course, some very nice people in Binghamton. My own mother worked there for a number of years, and some close family friends lived there as well.
I'm just glad I don't anymore, and I would never want to go back. There really are more pleasant places to live, in my opinion.
Accepted :-) We lived 10 years ago in an apartment not far from that site. The apartment was nice, the landlord great, but the neighborhood went downhill quickly in our second year. This was just up from the high school. That's when we pushed ahead to buy a home, out of the downtown area.
Binghamton is on the PA border, 1 hour south of Syracuse, and 1 hour north of Scranton PA.
Some people were evacuated, but isnt known how that affects the hostage count. My brother is directly across from the building, and has become a "spokeperson" of sorts, having seen the event, and currently locked inside the building.
Buses are in the area, currently evacuationg nearby buildings, with police escort.
I'm very proud of all of you. You managed to post 13 comments without mentioning gun control, George Bush, Obama or Clinton.

This is turning into an enormously tragic event. I just heard that the Mayor of Binghamton and one police official have stated that up to 13 people are dead. This was just reported on MSNBC. Of course, instant news on Cable leaves a lot of room for errors. I hope this is the case.
It's a shame some peoples lives are so miserable they have to kill & wound others to try to make their lives complete. Thats the reason we have wars because we have people in charge of our countries who have been brainwashed into thinking the only way they can display leadership is to start killing other people in other countries. This is an example of world leaders on a smaller scale.

If we were walking around with guns on our sides, these types of events wouldn be happening. Anyone who wanted to commit mass murder on a grandiose scale like this would be gunned down before he had a chance to fire more than a shot or two.
So everyone has a gun at a crowded mall and someone starts shooting then everyone pulls out a gun. How do you decide who to shoot? Just shoot first and let the police sort out the dead bodies later? The average citizen isn't trained on how to handle a situation like that.
There was not nearly this many random shootings in "the Old West." Most of the idiots had been shot, hanged or would soon be if they exposed themselves.
As it is now we would just cower in the "Crowded Mall" hoping we would not be shot next and wait for police to show up, secure the scene, determine that this is a job for swat, Keep the area secured until swat arrives and then go in and search the building and count the bodies while sending anyone still breathing to the hospital.
On the other hand, if several citizens pulled their own pistols and shot hell out of those doing the indiscriminate murders the chaos would last a matter of seconds. The victim count would be greatly reduced and more than likely we would have saved the expense of a trial and long term imprisonment. Another plus is before long we would run out of likely mass murderer candidates. Like it was in the "Old West."

Sadly, Gary, local news agencies in the area have been reporting 13 dead. It sure would be nice if that was inaccurate and none were killed, though, and I have to think the local news people would have to agree with that even if they reported the 13 number.

Thank you. For goodness sakes people, there are others in this world who want us dead! I am beginning to think our administration is on their side! Our forefathers wanted American citizens to be free and we are far from that. We have to pay for people who are here illegally (who, by the way, are committing a crime just by being here) to have healthcare, food, mental health care, education and we continue to b i t c h and complain about the economy and the disaster our country is becoming. Obama and his tax evading cabinet members (all who should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, but preferably not by our super-liberal courts) are really screwing this up. Here is my plan, and some of you may agree - pull all of our people, military, embassy people, whoever, and have them secure our borders, kick out all of the illegals and make them go through a legal process to become citizens and the economy will bounce back incredibly. He could have chose to purchase large quantities of Chlorine crystals and made his own Chlorine gas and then walked into the place, chained all the exits shut, donned a gas mask and released the gas thereby killing everyone in the building. Would you then have expounded on how we need to stop citizens from purchasing Chlorine crystals for the use in their private swimming pools or would you have instead lamented about how the manufacturer should make the cost of Chlorine so expensive only the rich could purchase it and since the rich don’t kill people we could prevent murders caused by

One CAN be religious and an American. One must only believe that people have a right to be free. Not sheparded by a well-meaning government, not controlled by a well-meaning government, not wrapped in cotton wool so that no injuries may occur by a well-meaning government.
It is our right to CHOOSE to believe in a higher power or not that makes us Americans. It is our right to CHOOSE to help others by the well meaning but misguided attempt to "protect" others from themselves or to "provide" for them or to help them by giving them the means to "protect" themselves and to "provide" for themselves that makes us Americans. It is our right to CHOOSE that makes us Americans.
Thus, I leave you to your "religion" and ask that you leave me to mine. I will not make comments about whether I feel your "religion" is wrong; I do not expect them from you about mine. I will gladly DISCUSS what I believe with you; I will not, never have, never will try to force it on you. DON'T force yours on me. THAT would make YOU unAmerican.

Hate to rain on your self-truth parade, but, the Japanese didn't invade North America during WWII because of the Pacific Ocean. There was no logistical way in the 1940's to traverse and support a strike force over that great an expanse. IDIOT.

Richard's theory makes more sense. True the Janpanese fleet could make it to the west coast. But at what cost and how long? In order to maintain the effectiveness of a strike force for prolonged period of time, the chain of supplies can not be interrupted nor its arrival be delayed, not even one day is acceptable. Ask any military commander and they will tell you that. Therefore, it is only logical to shorten the distance the supply team has to travel as much as possible. That is precisely why the Japs attacked Pearl Harbor first hoping to make it their base for lauching a full scale attack.

I didn't know the American Revolution Army was considered civilians. Did they not operate in groups and have an organizational structure? I thought nowadays they would be called the military.
