It never states what she brought into the marriage. There were no children and the marriage was troubled in less than two years. The husband was smart enough to have her sign a pre-nup before reconciling, but now she wants that made null and void. Hmmm, she is 37, why can't she get her job back? Granted she should get 'some' money, but I believe the $43 million is too much. The marriage hasn't lasted that long, no kids, separations, and infidelities on both sides (or at least accusations of such). Does anyone else see the problem? I agree. Plus men all over this country are homeless, ambitionless, and have a terrible self-estreem because the spousal maintienence and child support. I mean,does the government ever take into consideration that not only does a once married woman with children get spousal maintenence and child support, but that she also get to claim earned income credit which is about 3.5k per child, she also get the stimulus money and his, any tax return he might have had, welfare for her and the kids, food, clothing, and not to mention the satisfaction of getting to actually see the kids off to school...while the other spouse gets nothing, never even gets to see a paycheck, or the kids off to school, and not to mention that the judge just tells them to go get a second and third job (which only results in more payments to a greedy spouse). There is always a spouse in a divorce that suffers more than any one could imagine...and never is it the one getting the $$!

I think the courts should re-address this issue on a very serious level. They should charge the custodial, spousal maint. receiver back for memories and life the payor will never get a chance to have. I think if there was a price on memories and seeing the kids daily it would be the other way around. I think each parent should pay into an account the exact same amount, then when the kid is 21, they can get the money, this will help every child in a divorce with further educational costs, etc., plus it would eliminate women/men for suing/divorcing just for their own personal game.

Let the courts decide if she should. I know a lot of women who never report that their exes don't pay child support because it is too much of an emotional hassle to go back to court. My mother, sister-in-law and brother's ex for example. The men are deadbeat dads and just as well if we ignore them. They are worthless. As far as alimony, it seems a quaint reminder of a past in which women were not breadwinners. Now they are. We shouldn't have it anymore except in a few cases.

Yes, some women are mean, spiteful, witches. And this recession will hurt ALL members of the family. But for every woman who leaves her husband, there is two husbands who are beating their wives senseless because of his low self esteem. And for every family who grows apart in times of trouble, there are two to three who grow stronger. Look at it this way, if you lose your spouse when times are tough, you didn't lose much and you would have lost them sooner or later!

Just remember, sometimes there is a lot more to why a wife leaves than because the husband lost his job. People change. Sometimes the person losing the job doesn't have enough fortitude or committment to the marriage to overcome the challenge. Like I said, there is usually a lot more to a divorce than just one simple 'reason'. For the record, I'm well into the third decade of a solid marriage, never divorced.

lottapaws- Your idea about "joint custody" is good, and I agree. However, in lots of cases, one of the parents intends to "move away", and the prospect of the children living with each parent 6 months out of the year is null, due to school. I think there should be serious reforms in the Family Law arena. Among some of those I would recommend eliminating "no fault" divorce. This one thing has subjected more people to "harm" than anything else I know,...both men and women. I contend that the very best environment in which children should be raised is with a mother and father in the home. If that cannot be maintained (due to divorce for "cause"), then the courts should try to facilitate the "closest thing" to that, which would be equal time for the children living with both parents. (provided that each parent can be shown to be competent, etc.) If that means that one parent's right to "move away" is restricted, so be it. The well-being of the children should come before the "personal happiness" of an individual parent. The current system seems to cater to the "selfishness" of the adults, to the detriment of the children. And the entire "system" seems "designed" to merely churn money out of the parents for social studies, amicus attorneys, ad litem attorneys, counselors, mediators, psychological evaluations, etc. It is ridiculous. At the end of the process, one (or both) of the parents are "broke", (often, one of the spouses was "innocent", and is now abandoned, at a point in life where it is very difficult to "start over") the children are traumatized, and OFTEN, it seems that the "bad actor", or the "offending spouse" is almost "rewarded" by the court system. I know it would be difficult to re-visit, but some reforms to Family Law seem in order. Reducing the divorce rate, eliminating "no fault" divorce, writing "equal time" parenting clauses into the Law,....making "child support" payments "reasonably related" to the actual cost of providing for children, and making the recipients of such responsible to "report" how the money is spent, would seem to go a long way towards improving this system. This story is just indicative of how utterly ridiculous the whole "divorce" culture is in this country. By the way, congradulations on the longevity of your marriage,....it is rare in these days, and I commend you.

I just get sick to death of some of the divorcing parents I have seen, the kids are used as pawns to hurt the ex (male or female, equal guilt) or worse yet neither acts as a parent but want to be a "friend". Former friends of mine divorced and never parented their kids. Now one is on a suspended sentence for DUI's and theft, one wrong step and the 19 year old is in jail for 18 months. Do you think either parent is trying to get her help? NO, each just blames the other "it's not my fault the other parent wouldn't support me". I got so sick of them I started backing out of the friendship with both parents.

It seems to me, that until the "money" is taken out of the system (the Family Law system), that rampant injustices are going to continue, and children are the ones who are going to suffer. I "lost" my children in a divorce and custody battle. (it virtually "bankrupted" me, after working 25 years in industry, economically, I was back to where I was when I was 18!) Worse than that, I was virtually reduced from a "father"to my children, to a "visitor". My contact with them was for 2 hours each Thursday, and the first, third and fifth weekends. (by the way, there aren't that many "5th weekends) All of the "daily interactions" (which deepen the relationship, and are instrumental in the formation of the childs "character") were taken from me.....involuntarily. From bitter experience, I can tell you that you cannot be a "parent" in that kind of situation. Unfortunately, "divorce" is BIG BUSINESS. Consequently, it will be very difficult to make social changes, as they are likely to interfere with all of the "money" being made. If an effort were made to eliminate "no fault" divorce,...or to make custodial parents accountable for how they spend "child support" money...., or to put in place some restrictions that make parents "responsible" for tending to their children, I suspect the "outrage" from the lawyers, and others associated with the "family law" system (mediators, social workers, etc.) would be phenomenal. Fortunately, in my case, I recovered custody of both of my kids after a year, and my life is somewhat restored. But my heart goes out to the many children who are often placed in devastating circumstances due to the "selfish" actions of so many parents, who care only for their own pleasures and comforts, rather than the well-being of the kids. The story about this woman is only "symptomatic" of a much deeper and more pervasive social ill.

obviously you have never had to live in your car while trying to maintain a professional position - or any job for that matter - because your ex uses the child support and/or alimony to take care of her new b-friend, while your kids do without food, clothes, electricity, etc. that means you have to buck up and pay for that outside of the child support & alimony, usually leaving you with less than enough to live on.

forget taking the evidence to a judge. in new germany...er, jersey, they will tell you it doesn't matter if the ex uses the child support her new b-friend.

These older women who no longer have to worry about getting pregnant etc, and oftentimes are financially stable and are thus independent and not easily controlled - through money- may cause worry for many of these older men and/about their ability or lack thereof to perform. LOL

Perhaps these older women may know more about satisfaction and performance and may have more stamina, than these younger women who don't know much about it and thus accept/expect less for the purpose of getting hands on the money. LOL

Don't they say, " new brooms sweep clean, but old brooms know the corners"? LOL

Perhaps some of these old geezers are now paying for the clue that other men have known for the longest time. LOL

True. We make it on my husbands salary of $4500 a month with three kids and we do just fine. I guess this woman wants to keep the lifestyle she had while married. Sounds like alot but I guess to her it is just a way of life.

I make 33 thousand a year after taxes i bring home about 900 dollars every 2 weeks. I cant afford a car because rent in my area is outrageous. I basically live paycheck to paycheck just to keep a stupid roof over my head. And when I read stories like this one about a lady like this I get so angry that I understand why people earlier posted horrible wishes for her. The sad reality is she probably has been pampered all her life so even if she was give a dose of reality by being made to live say on 2 thousand dollars a month she wouldnt take anything from the experience other than wow I am glad I dont have to do this all the time.

It was a post-nup that she signed. She already knew the relationship was faltring when she signed it. She wants that agreement nullified because she didn't say NO.

I agree, i dont think that every stitch of clothing that I own (even adding in sporting equipment and my motorcycle gear) would add up to what she says she spends on clothes in a week. Just insane.
