Wasn't it LA that tried to have this type of crime eligible for the death penalty and the courts there threw it out, saying the punishment didn't fit the crime. I am a career criminal prosecutor (and a Democrat). The death penalty cases take so long they actually cost the taxpayer more $ in appeal upon appeal. As a mother and a prosecutor I agree that anyone who harms children needs to be locked up forever. But I have the ultimate respect for the law and the US Constitution. Well since we are playing friends to the devil. You say "personal responsibility" but it is no ones personal responsibility on this forum to enact justice over these people. We are expressing anger and frustration at a broken system and poor moral fortitude!! I have seen so many people these days spout off about the rich and their loopholes, well what about all the loopholes in the justice system for criminals?

The only way we can effectively enact future justice over these type of people is to elect responsible leaders in Washington who are not afraid to propose tough laws which protect the innocent, and not the criminals.

I believe in God. No God of mine would ever have a problem with good people punishing evil and sick monsters such as these two. As for praying for their souls...what are you praying for exactly? That God will forgive them for what they have done to these children? Exactly why? Why would they deserve that forgiveness? Are you praying that they will realize that what they have done was wrong? They knew it was wrong! If it all comes down to God forgiving them in the end - why pray that he does? Give me one good reason why ANYONE should be forgiven for doing something like this to children and babies? You can't! That said, we give criminals due process, not for their benefit - they are the criminals - but for our benefit. If we allow this couple to make us so angry we give up our own protections, then we compound the damage. One day we may be accused of a crime and not have the benefit of a trial. Isn't it worth waiting? The white gangs in prison will take care of this matter. And for the record, I'm not a liberal. I'm further to the political right than any politician in this country.

Diobolik, my comments were not specific to this thread, I just have a beef with the general idea that conservatives allow prayer as a substitute for political participation. They assume everything is God's Will and will be OK in the end, or that all the bad **** that goes on is part of a master plan, that Christ is coming again soon, etc. I see prayer as a release valve that postpones making hard choices. If people didn't believe in a Judgement Day, I think society would care a lot more about rooting out the problems.

I'm not one to advocate Public forms of medieval punishment. Having been a victim myself of some of this kind of behavior, and knowing what happened to my abuser in prison has been enough to satisfy me. Thing is, no matter what happens to these people, the families and kids that were abused get to carry this for a long time. It took me 30 years, and some great counselors to get the trash out of my mind, and put it where it belongs. My thing is, does punishment deter the next set of "babysitters" from doing the same thing? Or should society go back to caring for each other, and keeping a watchful eye out on the children?

OK listen up. The point was that the appeals process was necessary in the other cases to exhonerate innocent people. No, it will have no bearing in this case, but we're going to give them appeals anyway so that whenever YOU or I get in trouble, we won't have some dumb **** like yourself waiving our rights. The point of the law is not out of consideration of the guilty but of the innocent.

How devastating for the families of these children. I would never be able to forgive myself knowing that I put my child in this type of situation.

I know that my husband and I have live a meager existence because of these very things. I chose to work but it was always afternoon or eveing postions when the care of our child was never, ever in question. We were blessed to have a child and I was not about to have someone other than myself care for the upbringing of this child. But I would not change one thing; I would have learned to fix a delicious grass soup knowing that my child was not exposed to the likes of perverts and pedophiles.

Today he is a well rounded, good mannered, kid. He knows about consequences and he understands beyond his years.

There was also in the news a story about a child (14 months old) that had been beaten with a belt for over an hour because she would not eat her food and disrespected the mothers live in boyfriend. The had to take the baby off live support yesterday and she has now died due to her injuries. Is there no end to this madness in the world?

The punishment is not sever enough because they are only little kids. I know what you are saying. Perhaps, I misstated... the acts themselves are not new. There is nothing new, per se - as to how low the act can be as throughout history and even in the world today, there are acts that are unfathomable to the human concscience, yet they continue on - Rape in Darfur, mass killings in Bosnia, human slavery and sex trafficking. But the promotion of these things as you said, is a new low. Used to be word of mouth, or a published story in the newspaper. Now, with technology what it is, these kinds of things can be sent out, instantly to the world for mass consumption. Trust me, as part of a prosecution group for these types of people, what you aren't seeing, and probably aren't aware of, would sicken you more than this. Thats the problem - the vigilance. While my stomach turns for every story like this that comes out in the news, it only serves to remind me that these people are like cockroaches. For every one you do see, there are thousands more... perhaps millions, that you dont.

Do you mean having it done to their children? They have a six year old and reaping what they have sown only means to say that she will probably grow up to act out the same offenses on her own children.

I think breaking the cycle is where the community at a whole would benefit.

If they could do this to others children, there is no telling what their own child has gone through. Now without proper counseling, who's to say this child won't fall between teh cracks and continue to act out the way she has been taught to anyone else she may have a chance to come in contact with.

You know this has far reaching effects than just those who were arrested.....

Personally, if something like this happened to my child, I'd be in prison for manslaughter, because I would have killed them with my very own hands. PERIOD.

Of course Tony's wife doesn't wish for the child of these jackals to suffer the same fate as their victims have. They're losing their child to a safe place, and good for her! Karen B....I was thinking the exact same thing. In my city / community, we have a POS District Attorney (and a large number of judges) that are QUICK to give voilent repeat offenders a "break" on their bail. We end up with large numbers of SCUM back home in time for dinner. It's beyond my comprehension.
