I agree that we need to start policing the borders much better than we have been doing or it will only get worse. My solutions,

Stricter penalties for users in the states. Put pressure on santuary cities such as LA to do away with policies such as special order 40. Put troops on border and fortify the border fence as much as possible. Crack down more on employers in US that employ illegals. They need to be threatened with heavier financial penalties and prison time. Stop US banks from allowing illegals to have bank accounts. Stop illegals from being able to get mortgages. Prohibit states from giving benefits to illegals such as driver's licenses.

Close the border? Do you think this is the right solution? Enhance the border and weed out the drug business and the corruption within the border itself. I’m a concerned citizen who has a problem with the Mexican and American government not cooperating enough to decrease the amount of violence south of our border. In the past fourteen months 8,000 people have been murdered as a result of an escalating drug war between three powerful Mexican drug cartels. 90% of weapons comes from the United and are fueling this war. So far there has been little on the United States part to stop the blood shed on the border that is spilling into American soil. 230 cities in the United States are known to be operated by Mexican drug cartels with 90% of cocaine and most of the marijuana coming from them. American government only helped with 1.4 million dollars to help train and equip the law enforcements of Mexico and sent 1,400 American soldiers to protect our border. In Arizona alone there have been two hundred kidnaps or hostages taken and in august there have been 5 murders in a city of Alabama all linked to Mexican Cartels. This information should turn on light bulbs to officials of Homeland security that this is a threat to the United States.

Our government should stop the flow of weapons into Mexico by regulating a firearm laws on the bordering states. We also need more troops to the boarder on both sides to help decrease the carnage. Mexico needs more funding and resources from the U.S. to counter-act the narcotterrorist. This is our problem too and we should take some precautions before we end up in the middle of the war zone.

Solution to the border problem: close the border completely. No traffic going or coming from either side. No illegals, drug runners coming from Mexico into our country and no money and arms going into Mexico from the U.S.

Tunnel passages across an international border into the United States have become a real problem. There are 40 such tunnels that have been discovered since 9/11, and the great bulk of them are on the southern border. Large-scale smuggling of drugs, weapons, and immigrants takes place today through these tunnels. One tunnel running from San Diego to Tijuana was marked by inordinate sophistication. It was a half mile long. It went 60 to 80 feet deep, 8 feet tall. It had a concrete floor. It was wired for electricity. It had drainage. At one end, 300 pounds of marijuana were found, and at the other end, 300 pounds of marijuana. What was interesting is that the California entry into the tunnel was a very modern warehouse, a huge warehouse compartmented but empty and kept empty for a year. In one office there was a hatch in the floor. It looked much like the hatch which Saddam had secreted himself in. But lifting that hatch disclosed a very sophisticated tunnel. It went under other buildings all the way across the double fence into Mexico and up in Mexico in a building as well.

But statistically the drugs most sold and distributed in the US is weed. All im saying is pick your battles carefully, somethings are pointless in fighting, such as a pot smoking. Legalizing pot simply leaves more and harder drugs for them to make money on. And if we do legalize it and the problem gets worse or even brings in a whole new set of problems, what then, say oops we tried. What we've got is a group of people unwilling or incapable of showing personal responsibility and to justify their actions are saying it's the governments fault and just give up and let us do our thing. It's always someone else's fault. Users, fine the hell out of them, not these nickle and dime token fines. Dealers, very harsh prison sentences. Violent gangs and cartels, destroy them, brutally if necessary, but completely. And if it takes the armed forces or national guard, then so be it. Whether they are in Iraq or Arizona, they have to be paid, and the border states are much better liberty areas than Iraq during their off duty times, not to mention the boost to the economy. Most of the people responding to this problem are too young to remember that in the 1920's you could legally buy "drugs" at the local Drug Store. The song that has the words in it that "I get no kick from cocaine" sung by Frank Sinatra, showed that it was a common usage.

Why not make it all legal again. Those people that abuse it (and die) are then no longer leaches on our society. Take the profitability out of the drug trade and the cartels would dry up.

Not quite sure how making pot legal makes DWI's more of a problem? Its always been a problem and always will be, this isnt going to change this, becuase its a judgement call that is the problem not the drug. Its so easy for people to get pot with being illegal, the kids that dont smoke it, dont becuase they choose not to, just like kids that choose not to drink. So I dont see how making it legal would increase the risk of DUI's in the long run?

Well I do believe you are right. I lived for many years in the San Diego region of southern Calif and could see the problems starting even then. Don't get me wrong. There are many many wonderful, honest, hard working, god fearing families of hispanics living in this country. But now many more are coming in that are the drug cartels. Pot should be made legal and grown here, taxed yes but not to the point that it would still be a benefit to the cartels to still try to push it here. I think we have waited to long to really get a good handle on this. I feel for all Americans living along our Mexican border. They will have a real hard time in the foreseeable future.

There is also a new law that several states are doing with concerns to ammunition. Those states are requiring ammo to have a serial number on them. Some states have already started this as of the first of this month. It also makes it a crime to reload your own ammo as well as possess any unserialed ammo after 2011.

The weed prohibition got started from the southwest states trying to keep mexicans from coming across the border in the 20's and 30's. They made it illegal slowly, but the first step was to issue a 'stamp' that you had to buy to possess it. The problem with it was you had to possess it to buy the stamp, but since you didn't have a stamp to possess it, you were in violation and charged with illegal possession. Look it up. i have to agree with angie.....dupont was a huge reason behind the prohibition of hemp/canibis. hemp was a major competetor to the paper business...dupont pushed a product that rampaged forests and used enviromentaly harmfull chemicals. hemp farms are renewable and the paper has hardly any harmfull byproducts from production. dupont was in it for the money
