I saw this same crap, from John F Kennedy's bunch, in Vietnam, watch the VC push supplies just inside the Cambodian border, heade north.

vinemann, you have no idea what goes on overseas, they dont just capture iraqi civillians you know, this guy was a terrorist or captured during a fight with soldiers so he was most likely trying to kill our soldiers, for that the iraqi deserved to be shot!! but because, unlike them, we follow the geneva convention we have to take them as prisoners, the defense says the iraqi went for the gun, if he had got it you know the soldier would have died so the soldier sounds correct for shooting the iraqi? if anything he ridded iraq of another killer. you know if they get hold of one of our soldiers, they will be tortured prior to a public murder!!

Sorry lads: On the one hand you boast about American Justice and then you don't accept its findings. The story doesn't provide enough detail on the evidence one way or the other to justify the kind of knee jerk reaction seen here.
There is, however, ample evidence that Americans in combat zones do arrest, brutalize, torture and murder suspects and innocent civilians. Pretending they don't, excusing it or excoriating the "others" as thugs who do worse only reflects badly on you.
This is ridiculous! Bush sends them to kill the Iraqi's.........then he gets 25 years when he does! Regardless, it's all wrong!
I agree but Bush didn't send them in there to kill all Iraqis just the bad ones. Why was this man detained? I never read any articles on this but are there any witnesses to say that the 1st lt did this out of malice or was he really defending himself. Or was someone just going on a witch hunt to calm down the Iraqis?

We didn't really have reporters in those wars, if we did they would have printed what they were told to print. I am sure that during these wars there were some bad apples raping and murdering, doesn't it come with the the stress of war?
They may be our greatest generation but they had their flaws too.
My father served in the Pacific from '42-'46. He said there were no prisoners during battles but he did manage to save a few civilians in the Phillipines.(He was a corpsman)

this is so wrong ....... we train these young men to do our dirty work and then send them to jail for doing it...... there is so much more to this than being said its time we the people that these young "KIDS" are fighting for stand up and let the right people know what we think....... have we all forgot we have a voice that means something , we all stand up for our own little issues but this is our issue this is one of our own that was fighting so you and me didn't have to and this is how they are treated for doing so come on lets do the right thing here ....if anyone is to blame its the men that sent him over there in the first place lets bring them in on this also right is right.......we all seem so scared of what will happen if we say what we truely feel about all this let me say whats it gonna hurt we are the people that keep this nation going so i plead with each of you to take a stand if it was your son you would he may not be your son but these young men are keeping each of us safe so we can go about our daily lives what if they felt the same for each of us where would we be in a world full of crap that they are keeping us safe from and this is how we repay them .........if this is how it goes i'm ashamed to call us American ..........................

So he claims .... but not necessarily true.
A military panel (not a jury, as listed in the story) found him guilty. They generally do an excellent job of filtering through the evidence and are never reluctant to find someone not guilty when that is what the evidence allows. The real problem was when our "leaders" said torture and mistreatment was ok. What did they expect our combat folks to do.
I would like to know if he iraq government does the same to their people after a us military person has been found murdered after being captured. I highly doubt it
when US soldiers go to fight wars abroad, they are aware what they are doing. they have a choice to refuse the posting just as many have done.
the reason to go to war theatre could be as simple as earning a living or being idealogically in agreement with US politics.
it is only appropriate that the US soldiers should be subject to same rules as those that apply in that country i.e: if you hurt, maim or kill, you have a chance to be presecuted and face the provisions of the law of that country. the fact that no US soldier has been prosecuted in Iraq says that it is the victor's justice that applies here for it is quite obvious that US justice will be somewhat benevolent considering soldiers are considered war heroes by the US society and the government no matter the actions.
I agree 100% with Completefloors. Can you see Iraq holding court like this for killing an American? It wouldn't even have to be an American Soldier...any American would do. Only THEY would lop off guys head, start the body on fire, drag it through the streets while people cheered and film it all for the news! Come on! WAKE UP! Get rid of (anyway you can) the Iraqi's that are killing or attempting to kill those who are fighting against terriorism. 9/11 was just a good start. Something WILL happen to the USA again....but when and how? Let me see your bleeding heart when that happens. And when it does, STOP EVERYTHING and have an investigation and a hearing because some poor guy killed one of "them" and "maybe" he didn't play by the military rules. Not their's but ours. I support this soldier 100% and he should be cleared of any "wrong" doing. Shame we have so quickly forgotten about the two soldiers that were tortured, genitals cut off while the were alive and then hanged over a bridge and set on fire. Yes, there were pictures of the men standing (Iraqi) around celebrating. Were these murders captured and tried in a court of law for murder...HELL NO! This soldier was defending himself as all good soldiers do during war!
We are not at war acting like warriors, we are acting like police and as such similiar conduct is required. If this man committed murder, he deserves his sentence.
What I can't believe is that we out of all that has happened we finally got around to charging and convicting an "Officer" at all. I was beginning to think we were never going to challenge the actions of those actually in charge.

Is this officer not allowed to defend himself? Do not put our men and women in the military in harms way and think they won't defend themselves. I for one will not judge this man because I have never been in combat.

Let the service man out of jail now. We need to petition our congress persons to let them know we will not stand for our service people getting treated like criminals. They are there to defend us from more 9-11 attacks. They are doing a wonderful job. Let this poor guy go, our government should apoligize and let him live his life. If any one of our troops feels the need to kill an Iraqi then so be it. We are not there we do not know what goes on. The liberals of this country are selling us out. We need to run them out of hte country on rails. Send them to Iraq, let them live like pig. I bet then they will beg for our service men and women to do some shooting.
