President Obama has done nothing to increase welfare or subsidize poor families. Health care for poor children is a necessary and right thing to do. That isn't welfare.

This woman is obviously mentally disturbed or a con artist. Her doctor is a quack and should be prosecuted and his license taken away for doing unethical inplantation of so many embryos (might even be his sperm that fertilized the eggs). We aren't in China so our laws don't restrict the number of children a woman can bear.....but there should be a legal limitation.

The support of these children should fall solely on the doctor who implanted them and not to any tax payer. If there were some way the citizens of California could file a class action malpractice suit against Dr. Implant they might want to consider it.

This is a perfect example of abusing the system! This woman, like many others have been doing for way too long, is having children that she cannot afford. Most people who have kids try to wait until they have started a career or have a stable job so that they will be able to financially support them. Even those with out perfect situations will cut back on frivolous items, work more hours or get an additional job to make ends meet. Women (married or single) have a responsibility to society and for the well bing of their children. As for death threats, they are just sick but the more I read postings the more I see of them. Why should anyone wish death on anyone. I think the mother was in need of mental help and the doctor or doctors should have done enough research to determine her state of mind and financial ability to manage that many children. But then no one is equiped to handle that many children by themselves even if she had a husband. Since the same clinic did all her invitro, then the doctors had to be aware that she was unmarried and already had 6 kids.

Now that that is over lets concentrate on the kids. They are here and need to be cared for and I really doubt the mother can do it as she hasn't done it for the first 6, but should be given the chance. If she can't handle it then the state needs to step in and do what is best for the kids.

I don't have much good to say about the McCaughey family.  They had one child at the time and had very little money, but they somehow came up with enough to have the invitro procedure done and wound up with 6 more kids.  I think invitro is wrong if you already have a child and it's almost perverted to try to implant that many eggs into someone.  With this welfare woman (Nadya), I have about as much venom for the stupid doctor who agreed to do this knowing she had 6 kids already.  People in our society are incredibly stupid.  They have little money and then do bizarre and extreme things to put themselves into even MORE financial hardship.  But, the rest of us will end up paying for it somehow.  I personally hope that social services takes her children and she's told that invitro is no longer an option for her.  I think sterilization would be best for her.

To the best of my knowledge this country has not been "in the black" as far as our balance sheet goes for a number of years. If we had that much in our treasury, why didn't we pay off our national debt? Our national debt reached $1 trillion after Obama's election. Using your logic is like having $20 thousand in a savings account (drawing almost no interest) and having $10 thousand in credit card debt (drawing high interest) and not paying off that bill.

I agree our national leaders are fiscally irresponsible (both parties), but I don't believe they are that irresponsible. But of course they can still prove me wrong.

Our National Debt reached $1T after Obama's election? We acquired $5T from George Washington through William Jefferson Clinton. George W Bush managed to take that 5 and DOUBLE it, in 2 terms (prior to the $350B TARP 1st installment).

I think GWB's fiscal 2009 budget (the one that Obama lives with until October) is predicting another Trillion Dollars of operational overspending.

Add the $800B stimulus, the $300B TARP 2nd installment, and we should be about up to $13T in the red before the next round of bailouts to the Banks.

Many years ago large families were commonplace and never critized. One family in my community had 22 children and all living at home at the same time. Only the father worked and all were well taken care of. Fortunately they were spread out over several years. This lady who had 8 plus the 6 at home is obviously lacking something upstairs and these children should be removed and placed in homes where they will be cared for in a sensible fashion. This is not about her. It is about those children who are now here and will require lots of care. Seriously how can she provide a safe and nuturing environment for so many young children?

I agree with you; the media has given too much attention to this mentally sick woman. Her parents and physician appear to have gone along with her--let them financially support the babies since they obiously encouraged the procedure.

Who would want to watch or even know about 6 preemies (out of the eight) who will require lifelong healthcare? Cerebral palsy has been mentioned. That doesn't sound very entertaining. This doesn't mention her autistic child or the other two with disabilities.

By insisting all six embryos were implanted and by insisting on keeping all of them, knowing that it would lower all of their chances of developing normally, Nadya Suleman had just gotten away with the worst case of child endangerment I can imagine. And that doesn't mention the six at home. These poor kids could be starting life with one foot already in the grave, thanks to Mommy Dearest. These preemies have the absolute best of care, but they are so far from being out of the woods that it's scary.

But "I'm not selfish. I will stop my life for my children. I will love them unconditionally. I will hold them...." How she cannot see how selfish she has been throughout this pregnancy is beyond me and no TV show is going to be popular showing a bunch of challenged kids.

I think her publicist dropped her just to save their own reputation.

I still say a TV Reality show should be made with the mother having to do all the work 24/7 with the help of teenagers. Of course college would be out of the question for years like it would be for most mothers of multi births. Don't clean it up for TV. Go ahead and show the baths, dirty diapers, formula, meal fixing, house keeping, laundry and washing bottles for 14 children. Then it can be used in every middle and high school in the country. Heck we might even be able to go international with it. The teenagers could be sent in for the next 5-6 years at least. Talk about a deterring teenage pregnancy. Each teen that helps in the home for 2 or more days can talk about their experience while there and explain how much they had to do to even try to keep even. We could have films for years to come.

I gave in and watched the replay of the Dateline show on MSNBC. If anyone were to offer her a reality show (there's an oxymoron!), it would be cancelled after one episode. Who could take watching an hour of her ill-behaved, hyper, undisciplined kids, with 8 babies crying constantly, and Nadya trying to act like mom of the year and dishing out her superior understanding of parenting.

That is what I am saying about showing it in the school system to prevent pregnancy. Try reading what I wrote in 4.3. I think it would work.

I'm leaning toward the pro-life supporters supporting Litter Mom. After all, the lifers have been killing to protect her. That does strike me as being a hypocrite though, killing (abortion clinic doctors, bombing clinics, etc) to protect "the sanctity of life" (fetuses).

Taxing the churches...EXCELLENT idea. Look at the obscene amount of wealth and property that some of the larger churches, synagogues and other religious institutions in this country possess. NOT taxing religious institutions is another archaic practice from the past that needs to be reevaluated. People need to read up on this doctor before they go flocking to him for their IVF needs. From my readings he uses a "special method that the rest of the medical community say is not widely accepted because of its low success rate (less than 10%) whereas the accepted method has a success rate of ~25%. Of course we are hearing about the "success" of this particular one but what about his 90% failures. I also agree. The outrage in conjunction with the lack of donation made it difficult to defend this client. It is hard to belive that anyone would condone this woman's behavior by willingly donate to her selfish cause. Unless you are reading a different article than I am, she was not denounced by the Pastor. She lied and said that Calvary Chapel was her church, and the pastor said, "no one knows her here. She made a call to find out about child care, other than that, none of the pastors or staff are aware of her. That's not a denoucement, but a statement of fact. She does not need people sent into her house, she needs the children taken out of the house. She knowingly endangered any fetuses she might carry by choosing to have 6 implanted, then by choosing to carry all 8. She you know the risks of having 8 fetuses turning and twisting in an enclosed area, all with cords that are supposed to be carrying blood and oxygen to the brain and body, and when any cord is compressed that supply is cut off. Her surgery was done on a emergency basis, because one baby had been completely detached from the placenta, and that means NO BLOOD, NO OXYGEN, to the brain. Brain cells die. There's there is evidence that 6 of the 8 are now will disabilities, and others may show up, as they get older. She already had 1 with autism, and that definitely doesn't display it's self at birth. She CHOOSE, knowing that there was a high, I repeat high, potential for this to happen. This isn't a good mother, a loving mother. This is a sick one. She's onl 33 y/o that 60, so she could have had others implanted at a later time, but , to, just stick them all in. If the mother who called and inquired about child care was a drug addicted, abusing mother do you believe the church should have "sent the women in". No if anything they should have called CPS, but it was clear, with all her publicity, website, etc. that she didn't make that call from her hospital bed, but at a previous time. So get off your religious high horse, and attend to the issue at hand, and this is that this isn't a fit mother for 6, 3 with disabilities, and now another 8, 6 with disabilities.
