This entire situation is a train wreck. The doctor that performed the fertilization procedure should lose his license, period. Aside from selfishness, there was no reason for this woman to try and have additional children. Further, the hospital should lien on any income Ms. Suleman receives from this multiple birth. I understand that the cost will ultimately be tens of millions of dollars. Ms. Suleman should pay every penny. There is no reason that the hospital, Kaiser Permanente, or the taxpayers of California should bear any of the cost.

14 kids, no husband, total exploitation within 1 week of birth - this is a perfect story for the media. The only story I would like to see would be about responsible parenting 10 years down the road, after the parents have provided all of the support and properly handled all of the ramifications of their decisions. Would also love to know how they plan on addressing any higher education needs 18 years from now. If they can do this on their own, then you would have a newsworthy story to tell.

I wonder how she did this and if she has insurance. My daughter and son-in-law have been battling infertility for years and insurance companies fight paying for every little thing. They both work full time and each have insurance policies. If she was already a single mother to six children, how did she work to carry a health insurance policy? There are so many women, like myself, who want to have a family and have babies and is having a hard time. I'm married. I did everything by the book so far and haven't gotten anywhere. She, single, 6 kids already, no job, no spouse, no house that is hers as her parents bought her that house. What is the American dream? On TLC?

I would like an explanation of how an unemployed person affords IVF? I know when my husband and I couldn't get pregnant we didn't even think about IVF because we knew it was too expensive, something like 10-15K a round of treatment, not covered by insurance either? AND we had decent paying jobs!!!

Even the mother said her doctor told her to just order her daughter to get out of the house. Amazing they want to do a book. I think that the tax payers of California should file a malpractice suit against the doctor and the clinic that performed this procedure as well as the woman herself. That way maybe they can recoup some of the tens of thousands of dollars that she will be burdening them with in the form of welfare. And any company or television outfit that wants to offer them a deal - boycot their products. Of course if she gets a tv deal, then there is a better chance of getting some money out of her. Not only will we be paying for these chldren through MEdicaid programs, but through HUD housing programs; federal food stamp programs; Social Security Disability payments (for kids born with disabilities) then we can pay again through the school system because they will either need special assistance because of their developmental disabilites or parents inability to spend individual time with children to help them with school. Whether or not she is in the picture - the government will raise these kids.

Went through a major layoff in '05 after 26 years of senority with AT&T to have my job sent overseas. Now because of the bail outs, my youngest could not get a loan for this semster of college. But, Me!! Single parent!! pulled it off anyway to keep her in school. Also since my divorce in '02 and then the layoff I want to build my own house but because of my bruised credit they laugh at me even though I own the land and is able to put down 20K. I was a single parent of four. I went into the U.S. Army. I have been a X-ray technologist for the last 22 years!I got out of the Army after 4 years and I worked three jobs until I could find a job in X-ray. I never waited with my had out. This is sick to have all those kids when you have a man with you and just disgusting when you're alone. This"Child" needs help and really fast in the Mental department! I knew a woman like that in my hometown. When I met her, she already had 11 kids and was pregnant with twins! She had 1 more so that she wouldn't stop on 13! Her husband died of a massive heart-attack after the last one!!!!

I completely agree - pay her a bunch of money for "her story" - and the hospital should put a lien against any of those earnings to pay for the hospital bill. I am so disgusted with this entire situation - any monies received should be used to pay for and and all medical (etc) services - Is this woman on state assistance and how in the world did this happen if she is? My heart goes out to all 14 children for the lack of attention and love they will not receive - can only spread yourself so far. The doctors who performed this procedure in the first place should be investigated and dismissed from the medical profession, the mother (regardless of her love for children) should undergo intensive phychological assessments, and all of those who encouraged and are now approving her actions should be made to pay back what it cost to bring these innocent babies into the world. I pray all babies will survive without lifelong problems but that in itself is another question.

The woman on the thumbnail is sort of light-brown colored (can't tell from it if she's Black or Hispanic). I said to myself "uh-oh, this story is getting ready to take a whole new direction." It turns out the woman is actually one of the staff memebers at the hospital that the woman dropped her litter at. I still haven't seen any pictures of the human brood-sow, but I agree with you, if she is anything but white this story will definitely take a nastier turn.
